Included as a free bonus in the PC version of Brütal Legend are both the Hammer of Infinite Fate and Tears of the Hextadon multiplayer map packs.
Story
The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.
Combat
Brütal Legend’s combat is a combination of classic action slasher and real time strategy mechanics. Melee and ranged combat come from your double-sided broadaxe and demon-slaying, pyrotechnic-creating guitar. Add that 1-2 punch to a guitar solo mechanic that can summon objects, buff your teammates, or cripple your opponents, and you have a deep, gratifying core gameplay combat loop that is fun for the hardcore and accessible for the casual. On top of that, players will journey from Roadie to Rock God by commanding legions of metalheads into Brütal Victory and sending troops charging into battle.
A Streaming Open World
Brütal Legend gives you the freedom to walk, drive, or fly anywhere in a fully streaming open world whose art style is inspired by some of the most iconic and hilariously rad metal album covers ever created. Every vista in the beautiful universe of Brütal Legend looks like it was pulled from a Frank Frazetta painting.
Packed With Cameos and Voice Talent
Brütal Legend is full of cameos from gods of metal like Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and many, many others. It has a MASSIVE metal soundtrack from every era of metal music: 1970’s classic metal to 1980’s hair metal to the scarier cousins of 1990’s metal. And of course, Jack Black pays the ultimate homage to metal as Eddie the Roadie, continuing the theme from the work of his band, Tenacious D and his previous films like School of Rock and High Fidelity.
Multiplayer Mayhem
4v4 "skirmish" multiplayer marries action combat with a strategic unit-control mechanic. As the leader of one of the factions in the game, the player will direct his armies in a Battle of the Bands where the trophy is survival. Brütal Legend’s multiplayer is online-enabled, so you can conquer your friends online (broadband connection required for online play).
Music
The music in Brütal Legend is truly massive. Made up of 108 of the most rocking tracks from 75 different bands representing every sub-genre of metal, it is something to experience in and of itself.

A bit mixed about his one, i like the style, the world and the story is fun.
But man the RTS elements just don't work for me which is a problem when such a large part of the game is about that.
6/10
Awesome game for any old school Metal Heads. One of the best game soundtracks. Use to play this on a console many many years ago and ran across the PC version. Love it
Jables and Kage are both in this game, it's flawless is what I'm saying
This is the greatest game ever created and before you say anything, Does Red Dead Redemption 2 start with a fist fight to Black Sabbath? Does Call Of Duty Modern Warfare have a Chase scene to Motörhead? no. Case Closed
Great game from PS360 era, runs great on Deck and have one of the best soundtracks of games.
Quite Janky, but fun to be had.

If I were to provide a serious assessment of this game and rate it according to my standards, it would unfortunately lean toward a negative review. While the game embraces simplicity, it feels excessively so, to the point of compromising engagement. The combat system, for instance, lacks depth—combos are largely ineffective, as players can simply rely on basic attacks to progress through the entire game.
The open-world concept, while ambitious, feels rather empty. It's populated primarily with side quests that are overly repetitive and offer minimal rewards upon completion, which fails to provide meaningful incentives for exploration.
Additionally, the upgrading systems feel largely unnecessary. While they do offer some novelty, they hardly impact gameplay in a substantial way. Unless players are actively seeking variety for its own sake, the upgrades provide little motivation to engage with them.
Players who aren't familiar with rock 'n' roll or heavy metal musicians—beyond perhaps Jack Black—might struggle to appreciate what the game is trying to convey. Much of its humor and charm relies heavily on references and playful mockery of real-world musicians, which could feel inaccessible or fall flat for those outside of that cultural sphere.

Nonetheless, what I have written above was just to show what it would look like if I were assessing this game professionally. But honestly, I still stand by giving this game a positive review. Why? Because even though it's overly simple, it’s one of those games you can just dive into without overthinking or putting in too much effort. If you want to enjoy this game, just put your brain on pause, grab a beer, settle into your comfy couch, and have fun!
Amazing game. This is what it was all about back in the good old days. Sick guitars, hot chicks and rock 'n' roll. Must play for anyone who loves real music.
Fun concept and jack black is great but it didn’t age well and gameplay is overly simple
really great game i wish a lot more people would notice how fun this game is!
This is a fun game that I originally played on PS3. I remember being so happy the game wasn't just a cash grab, and turned out to be a pretty decent "Strategy RPG" with a lot of charm and interesting mechanics. Aside from needing to change some keybinds, everything seems to work, despite being a port. Very happy with it!
Really underestimated game, Good music (licensed goodies), famous characters and voice actors, good style, etc, the story is alright, even if a little non sense and with some elements there merelly done to get to a twist of plot. Gameplay is a little convoluted and clunky (principally on advanced stages and with lots of troops), but its still a fun hack'n slash game that was unjustifiably underrated at the release and also at later dates (even with the famous casting and soundtrack).
great game, plays great, locked to 60 fps.
As a metalhead, this game is fun. However, I disliked the RTS sections, and the game was poorly optimized at many points, which is a shame, because this game feels like a love letter to metal in general. Also, apparently there's a bug at 78% completion of the game, making it impractical to 100% this thing. 5/10, if this thing ever got remastered, I might consider it, but until then, BLEGH! (Sam Carter) Shout-out my partner for funding the game, though!
This is some old school fun. Think "Conquer Bad Fursday" fun. Definetly good for nostalgia feelings sake. (Driving is a bit wonky but eh, passable)
awesome game, totally worth it.
jogo muito bom.
a true blast from the past, a bit jankier than I remembered it being but MAN is this nostalgic
If you like heavy metal then this game is a must for you to play!
What is there even to say. Heavy Metal songs playing. You kill and destroy using heavy metal. You do heavy metal stuff.
Heavy Metal!
Even years later this game is still fun to play. Feels a bit simplistic tho
Fantastic experience, although unique. You can decide whether that is in a good or bad way. All I will say is that I would absolutely dig up a sequel in the same format.
nice
jack black
A trap for crying babies. It's a RTS (you hit that after a few GTA-like hours) and it won't hand hold you much. You'll most likely need to read about mechanics. If you are ok with that, it's a total blast (you get to command battles while ramming enemy troops with your car, playing OG metal)
Great game!! it has an awesome metal soundtrack and driving around the world is cool AF. such great metal game design!! only thing that kinda holds the game back is combat sometimes and later RTS elements that come outta nowhere.even with these small complaints i still give brutal legend A++ or S rank. I think this is what games are meant to be! buy it and have a kick ass time.
DECAPITATIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON
if ever there was a game id recommend anyone to play before they die this would be it
If you like any music genre,ı suggest you play.
The most metal video game of all time. Admittedly the gameplay is it's weakest link, but the rest of the game outweighs that one negative by far. Play this game for the honor of Bladehenge, for the freedom of its people, and for the glory of its METAL!! \m/
Hoping for a sequel <33
this game is a metal heads wet dream. the licensed soundtrack is obviously made by metal heads who know their shit. cradle of filth, motorhead, tenacious d, slayer, black sabbath, ozzy, motley crue, judas priest, rotting christ, Emperor, fucking Manowar with Die for Metal as well as dethklok's murmaider! and that's just a few examples so needless to say that there is a good variety of metal including some lesser known stuff and it doesn't have just the bands top hits either. i could spend all day gushing about the soundtrack or about what other songs i would've loved to see put in the game. there are lots of references to everything metal as well including some cameos (RIP Lemmy Kilmeister). the gameplay itself is a pretty basic god of war like combat with some very basic RTS/Tower Defense gameplay as well. nothing too special but still fun. Jack Black being the main character is also pretty cool. Story is alright as well and the game has some humor to it as well. overall, i had a blast with this game and i would love to see a sequel but that may never happen :(
Fucking awesome
Boring. Ophelia is good
Awesome music, artstyle and voice-acting.
The game mechanics are a bit more problematic. While the gameplay ideas iteself are very good, the main issue is, that the game was developed for consoles and thus the interface is centered around controllers. This works fine for driving and fighting but when the RTS elements come into play, a regular mouse/keyboard interface would have been vastly superiour. Most of the time, I did not bother trying to get the details of the tactical system working, because it was just such a hastle to trying to select individual squads. In the end you end up telling everyone to go to the same point, because anything more complex simply does not work with a controller. That's quite a petty, because the RTS part clearly is interesting.
So in the end, absolutely get it for the world, characters and awesome brütal metal. But be prepared, that some game elements lack excellence in execution by being forced into a console title.
Fun game but feels a little clunky at times. If you like Psychonauts or Tenacious D you'll probably jive with the humor of this game. Great music and deeper lore than I was expecting. Main campaign is short, and side content is a little repetitive. BUT, I got this game for super cheap so it's definitely worth it.
This game is always a blast. Great to grab during a sale and add to the deck! JB crushes it in this game!
Great GAME GET ITTTTTTTTTT
The rare proof that personality and vibes can carry a game even when the gameplay isn't quite there.
Back in the PS3 days, I got BG because it seemed to be a mix of two of my favorite things: demon-slaying action a la Devil May Cry and Heavy Metal.
This wasn't quite the case however, since it turned out to be a simplistic, open-world hack and slash game where some of the areas serve as batttlegrounds for real-time strategy gameplay in the 3rd person. Ambitious and unique, but sadly not very polished.
However, the world itself, the story and it's characters make it MORE than worth playing. Whether it's the thinly veiled cameos from Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Halford and Lemmy Kilminster, the main character voiced by Jack Black or the wonderfully evil Emperor Doviculous played by the legendary Tim Curry, the world of Brutal Legend is filled to the brim with fun characters and ridiculous concepts such as battlewagons that are essentially motorized pipe-organs.
And the soundtrack containing some of the best selections out of every subgenre of Metal is honestly worth the price of admission itself, since it's comes in its own folder upon installation, allowing you to listen to it both inside and outside of the game.
Meddl, Loide!
Literally the best game I have ever played 10/10 I would sell my wife and kids to get another copy I love this game so fuckin much I wanna actually stick my dick in the disk and make love to it
Fun game, great soundtrack. It is slightly confused on if it wants to be a hack and slash or an rts though. I takes a few hours before you even get to the real rts elements, and most of the side content in the game has little to do with it.
Played it almost a decade ago. Great stuff.
It's awesome!! It's really fun and it has a lot of personality... Jack Black's personality!!!
i played this a lot when i was younger i love this game
simplesmente um jogo a frente de seu tempo
Such a goofy fun game to revisit after a while. As much as i loved the xbox version i hate this shit on pc the controls are goofy as fuck. story is a 7/10 but metal goes hard
I started out enjoying myself but has the game went on it just got convulted in the gameplay mechanics. It was not seemless. Could have used a prompt tutor/hint to remind you of all the stuff you can do.
What a great unique game. I am so surprised that there isin't a sequel. Worst thing bout this game tho is the tracking of collectables. I ended up following some maps from websites and i ended up missing one serpant. IO wish there was a collectables map you could unlock in game or something
6/10
reasons for deduction
- i love the squad mechanics like how game easily tells you that you cannot do anything alone however this thing is used way too over much because of this the game gets annoying when you see that you are going to play clash of clans
- load and save checkpoint sucks
- no fast travel
- no manual waypoint this means you cannot set a manual waypoint by yourself
- no jumping i mean you cannt jump at all in this game
- THE GAME DO NOT TELL YOU HOW AND WHAT THING DO THIS AND THAT YOU HAVE TO FIND IT YOURSELF this means if you find some bushes with red leaves or anything THE GAME DONT TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO USE RELIC SKILL , AND YOU HAVE TO FIND THINGS BY YOURSELF THROUGH OUT WHOLE GAME ( this is a good function but there are limits what you should tell and what you should not )
- side quests gets boring quickly and repeative
- Hunter quests sucks
- no minimap option this means you have to manually open map again and again to see are you going in correct direction or not and thanks to this YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TROUBLE IN RACING SIDE QUESTS
- you can only fly during those clash of clans mission this means that YOU CANNOT FLY IN FREE ROAM AT ALL
Last good thing I played from Doublefine. Underated pvp mode. Worth a play for the Campaign craziness and if you are a metal fan.
Before everything went super politically correct and the extreme, radical left hijacked all the entertainment mediums they could (IE: Activists, Keyboard Culture Warriors, Social Media users and Sweet Baby Inc), we got absolute gems like this game.
You can hate me all you like for being honest, but I'm not American and I'm not in America, so it simply doesn't phase me that because of my views you'll try cancel culture me and call me a four letter M word supporter.
It's just fun, it's everything a game should be, It's everything a game used to be, It doesn't preach at you, it doesn't shame you, it doesn't tell you how you have think, it doesn't tell you what it believes is right and wrong, the only message here is "I want to entertain you".
It's just a fun game.
It won't please everyone, it's not meant too, it sure as heck won't please the modern audience who it's not for and wouldn't play it anyways.
There's no modern gender hangups, there's no self hating protagonist, there's no forced political stances and views, there's just a fun story that aims at it's target demographic, does it well, and in no way does it need to apologise for it.
This game makes me smile, but it also makes me kinda sad seeing what we got from video games after this, and knowing this just simply wouldn't be tolerated by any publisher in 2025 because it's not inclusive enough, it says naughty words, It's not a predominantly female cast, the cast who are in it aren't described with an alphanumeric acronym, there's no focus on racial traits, it's only aimed at people who like Metal and Rock (Note: that's not just guys no matter how much people swear it is), and it doesn't try at all to placate people it shouldn't.
Would love to see a sequel to this, though that won't happen, and I don't think it should given current climates, but I miss games like this, I miss having fun.
