Included as a free bonus in the PC version of Brütal Legend are both the Hammer of Infinite Fate and Tears of the Hextadon multiplayer map packs.
Story
The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.
Combat
Brütal Legend’s combat is a combination of classic action slasher and real time strategy mechanics. Melee and ranged combat come from your double-sided broadaxe and demon-slaying, pyrotechnic-creating guitar. Add that 1-2 punch to a guitar solo mechanic that can summon objects, buff your teammates, or cripple your opponents, and you have a deep, gratifying core gameplay combat loop that is fun for the hardcore and accessible for the casual. On top of that, players will journey from Roadie to Rock God by commanding legions of metalheads into Brütal Victory and sending troops charging into battle.
A Streaming Open World
Brütal Legend gives you the freedom to walk, drive, or fly anywhere in a fully streaming open world whose art style is inspired by some of the most iconic and hilariously rad metal album covers ever created. Every vista in the beautiful universe of Brütal Legend looks like it was pulled from a Frank Frazetta painting.
Packed With Cameos and Voice Talent
Brütal Legend is full of cameos from gods of metal like Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and many, many others. It has a MASSIVE metal soundtrack from every era of metal music: 1970’s classic metal to 1980’s hair metal to the scarier cousins of 1990’s metal. And of course, Jack Black pays the ultimate homage to metal as Eddie the Roadie, continuing the theme from the work of his band, Tenacious D and his previous films like School of Rock and High Fidelity.
Multiplayer Mayhem
4v4 "skirmish" multiplayer marries action combat with a strategic unit-control mechanic. As the leader of one of the factions in the game, the player will direct his armies in a Battle of the Bands where the trophy is survival. Brütal Legend’s multiplayer is online-enabled, so you can conquer your friends online (broadband connection required for online play).
Music
The music in Brütal Legend is truly massive. Made up of 108 of the most rocking tracks from 75 different bands representing every sub-genre of metal, it is something to experience in and of itself.

Another game I have mixed feelings about. Its an original game of the early '00's, the story idea is great, awesome cameos from metal legends and alumni, the soundtrack is pure fucking metal. The down sides, the controls are pure ass, its filled with corny Jack Black lines and the game finishes faster than a virgin on prom night. As soon as the damn game gets good, it cliff hangers you leaving you yearning for the sequel that never came. Solid 7/10.
From the very first cutscene Brütal Legend gets Metal right! From the soundtrack, over the cameos, to the puns and references it encompasses what an old Metalhead like me loves about Heavy Metal. On this basis alone I recommend the game, because the gameplay is average at best and absolutely awful at the end.
The only thing I don't like about this game is how short the main story is.
This is the best hack and slash there is! Metal, Hot rods, A$$ kicking, demon slaying, and the list continues! If you don't own this game, shame on you!
The RTS parts feel a little bit unpolished and could use more balancing, but they don't take away from what otherwhise, is a great game with a great game with awesome world building, one of the nest soundtracks I've ever listened to and a good story.
Revolution in their minds, the children start to march
Against the world in which they have to live
And all the hate that's in their hearts
They're tired of being pushed around
And told just what to do
They'll fight the world until they've won
And love comes flowing through, yeah
Children of tomorrow live in the tears that fall today
Will the sun rise up tomorrow bring in peace in any way?
Must the world live in the shadow of atomic fear?
Can they win the fight for peace or will they disappear? Yeah
So, you children of the world
Listen to what I say
If you want a better place to live in
Spread the word today
Show the world that love is still alive, you must be brave
Or you children of today are children of the grave, yeah
Honestly its a half recommend.
I like the ideas, the style and Jack black, BUT I got stuck in second to last mission of the game just like my boyfriend did before I started playing.
Maybe its because I dont usually play tower defense games. I was interested in the story and characters, but some missions are so hard to do/understand. Im sad I couldnt finish it and I havent looked up any video about how it ends
Maybe Il be back to finish it untill next time Eddie, untill next time
I Love This Game . The Story Is Great , The Songs Are Awesome , The Characters Are Cool And I Had Much Fun Playing It .
it looks stunning on a modern PC, the game is funny and fun, has clever lore and interesting mechanics., its worth well over what it can be found on sale for IMO
Killer soundtrack and Jack Black. Absolutely a classic game.
Game would've help a lot by having life bar, can't they even have a bit of immersion breaking feature just to help with gameplay? It would've help a lot to tell the player what unit work with what enemy & how damage they taken to each other, also to decide should we push forward or hold back. The combat also feel floaty (not punchy enough) at best & the graphic kind of lacking in telling you if ranged attack is hitting you.
I love the RTS mechanic but I can only wonder if health bar would've help in making the battle feel more responsive. You're kind of guessing if the force u got is potent enough to push forward & also as the Rock Crusher not having it, really making me upset when the tower just insta kill it the moment we got too close, rather than chipping away a health bar.
That said the music in this game is not 2nd rate or similar, it really is the best & peak in metal world. It's worthy of enduring of the lack of feature i mentioned. It blends real good with the gameplay.
played for the first time, campaign was pretty good like the story and soundtracks side mission was kinda lame but still a solid game after 16 years of the release date. Still playable for story and soundtracks, gameplay allright. Multiplayer dead long time ago, in my experience after hours of search i couldn't find single person.
Could have sworn I reviewed this ...
20 / 10 one of the best games ever played.
All the metal gods and Jack black.
Fun game , fantastic soundtrack
Did I mention Jack Black ?
Great music, voice acting by Jack Black, totally original idea, funny scripting. Worth checking out.
I have to remove logo and pregame movie to get it to work with my graphics card though.
great classic looks amazing for the time story is a 8.5/10
Totally BRUTAL!! Play it if you love going fast, exploring wide open maps, killing things, and RTS (Real Time Strategy), Oh, and also guitar hero!
No other game allows u to honor the rock gods.
The best story that can be made from metal!
Thanks to the creators, be sure to try it!!!
90/100 - If you haven't heard, this underrated work is often cited as an example when people make creative and awesome concepts in art design and gameplay and takes the risk of develop and release it into a world of ingratitude where repetitive junk like COD, Assassin's Creed, and hero shooters triumph.
With this, I don't mean to say that the game is perfect, the most annoying flaws for me was the driving movement and sometimes combat commands and teamwork confusion, still unique.
Fantastic story, unique and fun gameplay. Just a solid game. Definitely worth a playthrough. Tell DoubleFine to make a sequel!!!!
A game full of fun and legends. played it on release, still love it.
A bit clunky a times but wonderful soundtrack, good story and Jack black at his peak.
[H3]Cool music, normal gameplay at the beginning, but tower defense ruins everything.
A rough gem is what id call it. It sure is a good game, i liked it alot but the RTS segments are annoying and the game has its jank but strangely has alot of QOL that most games today dont have. It can be cheesy but thats a given for the time it came out but damn is it cool.
Love this game love the soundtrack love Jack Black everything is awesome but heavy metal cover five stars works perfect on the steam deck
This game is such an underrated Gem, its peak 2010's and full of cameo's if your a metal head <3
If you huge fan of Metal and Jack Black you're gonna love it
just amazing great story and amazing music
just a plain and simple fun game. this a perfect example of what the era of late 360/PS3 games were capable of in style and fun. The RTS mechanics were a bit of a weird addition but I found it fun as the main mechanic anyway. and the missions in between those worlds were really fun to, even if their simple. But what really carried this game was its style. the whole mantra of everything has to look like a metal album cover works wonders on this game's world. it also has an amazing sense of scale that puts its game world up there in some of my favorites. overall very fun and stylish game. (9/10)
Just a good time for those looking to tear through bad dudes with destroy the orcs blasting through the speakers.
An epic experience! Even if you don't like heavy metal, super fun mechanic and very brutal humor. Super recommended!
Jack Black and Heavy Metal... WHAT... MORE... DO... YOU... NEED? Oh, you want Ozzy too? You @!#$$%! got it! I love this game. Great mechanics, story, game play, graphics, voice overs and more! If any of this interested you what are you waiting for? Buy it! Buy one for your friend!
ive played since 360, runs really well on pc !
Comedic game with Jack Black, rock legends and a varied metal soundtrack - what could go wrong? The main gameplay loop is a mediocre hack n slash. Then it becomes a mediocre RTS later on.
This game deserves a sequel, it definitely needed a third act but the 2 acts we get are worth the price, especially on sale. A must have for all metal fans
That's when Jack Black turned and said " we are Brutal Legend "
good good good good goood good good goood goood
i would like to say this the game itself its good but for me the combat its awful but its still playable 3/5
Great game. Gameplay is really good, some classic hack 'n' slash with a bit of RTS (yes) into the mix.
Come here for the soundtrack, stay for the awesome world-building, cry for a sequel (lore is surprisingly interesting in this Universe). Jack Black gives his very own soul into being Eddie Riggs.
It' jack black and it's brutal legend 🔥🔥🔥
While it doesn't have a whole lot of replayability, and nobody plays the multiplayer mode, it still manages to be a really good game. This has to be one of my favorites from my childhood. I would love to see mod support for this game, or see someone make mods for Brutal Legend.
As a 20 year old who loves dad rock and jack black, this game is total rocket sauce. It has some flaws but it's a lot of fun. Another banger from Tim Schafer. 9/10.
BRÜTAL
yes
If you like heavy metal and you like having fun play this game
For the soundtrack alone it was worth it
I wonder how much it costed to have the rights to all those metal songs!!!
This game rooockssS1!!
Very simple gameplay but i love it
A great game i really recommend it for people looking to level up on steam while having fun playing this game
Fun game and awesome music to listen to. Only part I don't like is when it turns into an RTS after a few missions
video game
