good game
Throwback to simpler days. It's the first older TR game I've played since my childhood, so the graphics don't really hold up to the modern standards.
I have two seriously bad experiences with the game though: first, it didn't run at first. Luckily a fellow gamer posted a good fix on the community page.
Second (and I find this unaccepable) I was not able to finish the final level due to a bug that caused a rope to have no hitbox. Upon checking a guide it seems like the final level is riddled with bugs. Aparently it was one of the final rooms so I'm not going to bother to start over.
Guys.... it's been 25 years, ffs fix the game.
6/10 due to lazy port and bugs.

The quaint texture, the old-fashion experience, the familiar music, and most important, the only strong sexy smart Lara Croft.
Chronicles feels like something Core Design didn't want to make. It's the fifth annual Tomb Raider game in a row and it shows. It lives up to the "chronicles" namesake, in a way. Following Lara Croft's supposed death in the fourth game, a bunch of random people get together and talk about her past adventures. This leads to an anthology of levels with little connectivity. It's a neat concept but isn't well executed.
Level design feels undercooked and the final levels are extremely frustrating, especially if you're low on ammo. The helicopter sequence might be the worst part of the PS1 Tomb Raider era. Some of the mechanics aren't well explained, like walking up to a guard to knock them out; others feel underused, like grappling. It also feels buggier than the other TR games leading to it, like there's one area in particular where saving breaks the game.
If you're really itching to play more Tomb Raider, hey, at least it's better than Angel of Darkness. Get Peixoto's patch if you play it.
Love the old Tomb Raider games, have been playing since the 90s but the bugs especially on the Red Alert level are crazy and debilitating as far as game play goes. If you accidentally save at the wrong spot (who knows what spot that is) you may encounter a bug that prevents you from continuing the game. For example, I am currently stuck in an elevator because the doors won't open after Lara presses the button to operate the elevator. Looked it up because I thought I was missing something, but turns out it's a problem for many other users as well.
This game is an absolute dumpster fire of poorly thought out ideas turned into pretty bland levels. I've been playing through these games recently and out of the classic series, this one is easily my least favourite. Like RE6 this game is just one massive playable identity crisis, however unlike RE6 this game still remains fun and rewarding to play. The game is not great, the levels are generic, the story is shabby, the controls are barely refined from TR1 and the port is buggy at best - but through it all I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy my time with it, the games a product of it's time so keep your expectations kept in accordance and you'll find it decently enjoyable. I'd still rather you play any other Tomb Raider game from the classic series though.
Love the creativity and the new elements in this one, but because of some of them it's best to get a quick patch before playing. Because in the last level there's quite a few ways you can accidentally soft lock (like I did at the very end) by overwriting your saves and it's best to just avoid the possibility altogether with a patch. However, after that's fixed the game is awesome, the spooky tale/level was super fun and the most unique as well in particular. The story is mainly a homage to Lara after her disappearance in the last game, so it doesn't progress it, but rather expands with stories being told about her by the fire on a cold night.

Tomb Raider 5 is by far the most varied out of the first 5 games in the series.
In this game you go through memories of adventures that Lara Croft went on. This doesn’t include any levels from the previous games, so don’t worry.
Because they go through memories, the items that you pick up won’t be carried over to the next level. This is something to keep in mind so you don’t hoard all the ammo and medkits and expect to use them later. Every level is a new time and a new inventory. This said, we both know that you’ll still hoard every item, just like I did, and then get sad because you never used that really cool gun you found. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.
The movement in this game is very much the same as in the previous games, but with some minor tweaks. I can’t put my finger on what they are, but it just feels better.
Just like in Tomb Raider 4, they have the tutorial in the first level, but for some reason they decided to hide it. Just go down the ramp to the side from where you start instead of the obvious straight road and you’re there.
As every level is a different memory, they do play very differently. Some focus more on exploring, some are focused on stealth and there’s even a “horror” level that really scared me as a child. It also taught me the importance of multiple saves, so I could rewatch the intro (an intro that felt way too awkward now that I’m an adult).
One thing to note is that the developers did not want to make this game. Tomb Raider 4 was supposed to be the real ending. So, Tomb Raider 5 heavily borrows from previous games while still staying unique, but is by far the shortest game in the series.
To conclude:
I do recommend that you play this game if you enjoyed the previous games. But just like Tomb Raider 2, 3 and 4, you do need something like dgVoodoo to play. It won’t work correctly without it on modern platforms. Like all the others, there’s a bunch of online resources to help you set that up.
One thing to not is that they are making a remaster of Tomb Raider 4-6. I don’t know what (or if) they’ll change, but unless you feel comfortable tinkering with the files, you should probably wait for that.

A nostalgic trip through Lara Croft’s past adventures, weaving together untold stories with familiar gameplay. Though it doesn’t reinvent the formula, it’s a solid entry that gives fans more of what they love—clever puzzles, action, and exploration. It's a fitting, if bittersweet, continuation of Lara’s legacy after the events of The Last Revelation.
