Well, just another platformer, with just another gimmick...
The game has awkward controls and frustrating level design. The dual-world feature is interesting but doesn’t add much to the gameplay. The game can feel repetitive and lacks innovation, making it less enjoyable.
It scratches that platformer itch but has its problems.
There are two modes you can switch between freely: a slow fall mode and a dash mode. You use those modes to collect gems while working your way through the level. The art and the music change with the mode; switching is seamless and feels good. The game difficulty is moderate to hard. On the easier end for platformer veterans and probably a bit difficult for people who only play the odd platformer.
There are three bosses. I found them fun and fair but again probably difficult for people who don't play a ton of platformers. To unlock bosses and progress further in the game you need an average rank of three stars on each level in that world. Stars are awarded by collecting gems and having as few deaths as possible in a single run of a level. I didn't have any problems unlocking them but they are locked. So if your the type of player who hates replaying levels over again it will annoy you and you will be locked out of later levels.
My annoyances with the game are the colour palette and not having a level restart option. The game looks nice but I find with the colours that some of the gems will blend in with the background making them easy to miss. Unfortunately the same is true of a few obstacles. Some spikes are only active in a certain mode, but sometimes its hard to tell at a glance if the spikes are active or not in your current mode. The game is really good at telling you what mode you need with gems but if you die and return to the last check point that visual clue is gone on later tries. Lastly some of the invincible enemies are hard to tell at a glance. They have spikes to differentiate them from normal enemies but they don't stand out as much as a I would have liked.
The no level restart is annoying if you are trying to 100% a level (going for max stars, score, or time) but less of a problem for casual play. If you die or make a mistake and know you can't beat whatever you are trying to you have to exit the level and reenter. Not a huge deal but it quickly gets annoying if you are struggling and have to do it multiple times for the same level.
All around I did really have fun with the game. I would recommend it with the caveat of getting it on sale for at least 80% off which it regularly goes on sale for.

Starts off fun, mechanics are sound and it looks nice. Only issue is the game never changes its graphics at all so everything looks the same regardless of what level you are on. In addition, levels go from fun frolics to over-long nightmares you wish would end.
levels are decent platforming, but hitboxes seem very inconsistent and lead to deaths that feel unfair. Controls are responsive, although the option to manually toggle characters doesn't work (no one tried that option?). Final boss is a terrible chore and not fun...
Hitboxes are not precise. Sound design is horrible.
As a platformer Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is mediocre at best.
I would like to give a neutral rating for this game, but since I can't - I tend more to a negative recommendation.
My rating 5/10, not recommended.
Had fun - More Gianna Sisters. Very short, worth picking up on sale/in a bundle.
Like me, it has many issues. But also like me, it's quite pretty and easy to control. Play it, but keep a punching pillow handy.
