Story
Four years into the brutal military occupation, America is on its knees.
Philadelphia - once the birthplace of Independence - has become a ghetto, where surveillance drones and armoured patrols keep the population at heel, crushing any dissent with savage force.
Her once-proud citizens live in a police state, forced to collaborate just to survive, their dreams of freedom long since extinguished.
But in the badlands of the Red Zone, in the bombed out streets and abandoned subways, a Resistance is forming. A guerrilla force, determined to fight for their freedoms despite overwhelming odds and ignite the second American Revolution.
But Freedom always has a price…

Fun game overall, got a little repetitive but yeah. 6/10
this game is nothing like the last one. 10 minutes in and you still are watching a cut scene
Overall, if you enjoy shooter games and don't mind a few flaws, it might still be worth checking out, especially if you find it on sale
its not extremely long but it is extremely good with multiple stories
10/10
Apart from some bugginess, the game ran well and bottom line was fun; WELL worth picking up on sale. The only real criticism is it offers nothing new over the established 'Ubisoft formula' for open world games but it will scratch that open world itch just fine. The DLC's are all quite short but nicely done and add some good lore and closure to the story.
Homefront: The Revolution offers an open-world rebellion against an occupying force, featuring great ideas and decent visuals. However, poor performance and repetitive gameplay hold it back. Worth a try for fans of Far Cry, but lower your expectations.
It was fun until it wasnt. Putting uncompletable side quests aside due to bugs.... the game is mostly vacant and on top of that progress is pegged to finding X qty of Y enemy.....which I could not get to spawn after searching for far too long.
This is one of the best, if not the best, FPS game I've ever played. Awesome story and game play. Graphics are great too. I didn't experience any game breaking bugs. Played great for me. Highly recommend.
the movement and the animations in this game are better than a lot of today (2024) games. Highly recommended
Good game, drastically different from the 1st game. The ambience is awesome. Only problem is the AI is dogshit, not in an aimbot way, but in it is like handing your 5 year old sibling the controller, you can walk right in front of them and they do not see you, their aim is pretty bad and you have a better chance killing yourself while jumping off a ledge than dying to the enemies.
A Revolution in Napping
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Homefront: The Revolution promises a thrilling fight for freedom but delivers a revolution that’s more like a slow-motion nap. The story is flat, the characters are forgettable, and the plot twist never arrives. Combat is clunky, and the AI is either hilariously stupid or I’m secretly a tactical genius.
The open world is lifeless, and driving feels like steering a shopping cart through an empty parking lot. If you’ve ever played a Ubisoft game, you’ll recognize the endless checklist of boredom – capture this outpost, collect that thing, repeat. It’s like someone copy-pasted Ubisoft's to-do list into this game and forgot to make it fun.
Graphics are fine-ish, like a soggy sandwich. In short, *Homefront: The Revolution* is more of a snooze-fest than a revolution. If you want excitement, try literally anything else—or just take a nap. It’ll be more engaging.
I enjoyed the game. It has a fun story, just don't try and find the holes in it and actually enjoy it.
Hmm, it's a mixed bag.
I've finished this game on multiple platforms, I don't know why I did it
I can understand the mixed reviews, it's buggy, sometimes boring, story is meh but for the price it's good.
Far Cry: Philadelphia.
This game's been panned left and right both critically and by popular reception, but i honestly don't see why. This one isn't gold, not even close. But this game is actually tries something interesting, and im surprised no one really mentions it. Nothing ground breaking or spectacular but this game is fine, hate for this game is overblown.
5/10
Very much a mixed bag. The story is essentially Americans starting an insurgency against the North Koreans that invaded their home. The writers of the story and characters must eat cardboard. Clearly had budget issues with janky cutscenes and bland gameplay. It's ok if you shut down your brain and do the Ubisoft checklist on autopilot. If you expect exhilarating gameplay and breathtaking story, then search elsewhere. I like the idea of the world changing based on your actions but it feels undercooked.I got this game for like 2 bucks, played through all the SIngleplayer (4 DLC included) and got 15 hours out of this. Now, were these 15 hours well spent? I finished all the DLC content in about 2 hours. These were 2 fun hours. The main story mode is a bit more tricky.
The game has a lot of bugs in terms of movement, Ai behaviour, interaction prompts, and oh god audio. Nothing game breaking, but don't expect to feel immersed 100% of the time.
The stroy is kinda weird. It is really hard wanting to help the main characters. They act illogical and crazy at all times. The most normal people were the ones in prison, which is funny. Important characters die, I don't mind. That's the kind of story we're talking about here.
The enviroments are awesome! Lot's of creativity to be found here. Lot's of assets are reused here and there but in smart and even sometimes interactive ways. Some places feel lived in with stories written all over the areas for you to find. The DLC places are especially awesome.
Gunplay isn't fun unfortunately and this being a shooter mainly doesn't help. Stealth is either too easy or too buggy (some walls don't hide you, others with a bunch of gaping holes do). The collectible stuff is the usual but some of 'em are hidden with different kinds of puzzles, which is refreshing.
The ending is absolutely boring and stupid. The DLC are a must for this to have a proper ending. I tried to play the Coop missions solo, but it got boring pretty fast. It's just "get this, go here, destroy this, clear this" and that's about it. You'll have to unlock everything again and get lootboxes or whatever. Don't expect this to be a cooperative game. It's not. SIngleplayer, through and thorugh. There is not PvP.
But I still recommend this to anyone who wants to experience this nostalgic 7th gen console singleplayer shooter type game again. It's mindless fun if you look at it this way. But don't pay more than 5 bucks for the whole package.
TIMESPLITTERS 2 PSA:
You don't need to play through this terribly mid game in order to play the Timesplitters 2 port, you can just download and install the HFTSRedux/TS2Redux mod which fixes the port and adds saving functionality. On top of that there is an option in the mod to uninstall as much of Homefront: The Revolution as possible whilst still being able to play Timesplitters 2
the stealth in this game is worse than mfking star wars outlaws, I still enjoyed the game but damn was the stealth terrible.
It's quite fun to play, especially online with a buddy or two. I just wish there were even more missions and stuff.
worth it because of the fact it pretty much has a complete timesplitters 2 port in it, minus the map maker.

love it
A pleasant surprise compared to the first game, but only compared to the first game. Thankfully it is ok to skip 2011 Homefront completely when playing Homefront The Revolution. I would say this one is actually a pretty good game overall--I think it was given a bad rap early on due to performance. And while still a bit glitchy, this game has a lot going for it.
The game has a sharp divide between quality though. The best parts take place in "Yellow Zones", which are areas controlled by the invading KPA and which have a semblance of order to them. In these areas the tone is oppressive, basing the design on stealth or hit and run. The game builds a pretty great "authoritarian" atmosphere, and slowly causing these areas to decent into chaos through your actions is quite a satisfying take on the standard open world objectives. Not to mention the backstory which sounds silly at first, is taken seriously enough throughout by the characters that you really start to get invested! Now here is the setting that was hinted at through marketing material this whole time! it's an actually interesting alternative timeline with a fallen American society and a technologically advanced oppressor.
Now the actual plot of the game is in the middle ground. I would say that the story is full of cliches but is miles ahead of the previous game. Characters and dialogue are cartoonishly exaggerated but do have a sort of charm as the game goes along. If you accept for some pretty heavy plot armor, it's easy to get invested. But I wouldn't watch a movie with this games story--it's just not that strong on its own.
Gameplay and game design is the big problem here. On the positive side the gunplay is pretty satisfying, the modifications you can make and the crafting for IED's are both great mechanics that are not really very complex, but do make for fun situations. However, where most of the fighting takes place in "Red Zones" which are basically free fire zones, the game becomes more of the same far cry-esque open world formula that was in every other game for the last ten years. Liberate outposts with stealth or guns blazing, locate ammo stashes, turn on radio collectibles---blah blah blah, its hard not to be sick of this formula. It is just as generic to the 2010s as the original Homefront's "linear military shooter" was a cliche for the xbox 360. So yeah, there are low points despite my earlier praise.
Took me about 15 hours taking my time but not being completionist. I hesitantly recommend it especially when on sale, and I have heard good things about the relatively short DLC in terms of wrapping up the game story. I also believe the developers really pushed this game through despite a bit of development hell and it does seem like a game made more out of love than out of corporate obligation, and that always makes a difference in the feel of the overall game.
Played for 1.5 hours but then I refunded it. Game was beautiful graphically. But the gameplay loop was not satisfying enough for me. I kept telling myself, I could be playing Cyberpunk instead with a much more interesting game world and better gameplay instead of playing this.
I have to say the mixed reviews pretty much cover this game. An FPS is usually pretty basic but this game managed to mess that up. Most of the guns and equipment are useless and you pretty much shoot people with the standard weapons. The story is barely mediocre and very forgettable. You should only buy this game if its dirt cheep and you are not looking for too much.
The enemy respawns extremely quick in some of the strongholds, you turn around to complete it and 2 to 3 enemies will respawn back in the same spot you just killed the others in the span of a few seconds, making some of the strongholds impossible to complete
I really can't bring myself to enjoy this. It's the exact kind of game where you turn your brain off and grind generic, underwhelming map markers. It's the Ubisoft formula I love to hate
i hope to never play this again
Homefront: The Revolution is a 2016 first person shooter developed by Dambuster Studios and published by Deep Silver. The game is a reboot/sequel to Homefront (2011), which I find this unnecessarily complicated as this title takes little or no lore from the 2011 title. The story takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, following Ethan Brady as he joins the American resistance against the North Korean occupation. Upon release, the game had mixed and negative reviews for a variety of reasons. Is Homefront: The Revolution worth purchasing?
The Homefront series is a mixed bag for me because the series had potential on the lore and backstory. My negative review on Homefront (2010) was based on the gameplay, voice performances, and story while the only positive aspect was the lore/backstory. Homefront (2011) had semi-realistic lore that is plausible like American isolationism on international affairs, economic collapses, and the newspaper collectibles in the first title telling the player how things fell apart. I also found it disappointing that the game did not more risks or made things absurd that is the general premise of North Korea taking over the Pacific and occupying parts of the United States (should have been China, but whatever). Homefront: The Revolution rebooted the entire lore with sci-fi elements and absurdity that made me disappointed.
Homefront: The Revolution’s gameplay is different than the first title as this game focuses on guerrilla warfare and insurgency tactics to tackle the Korean People’s Army (KPA) forces. The game has some stealth elements, and when the stealth works, it’s enjoyable. I do like the crafting mechanics to make explosives like remote detonated bombs, RC explosives, etc. I strongly recommend on playing at the highest difficulty to get the best experience – if you ignore the negative aspects of the game. Unfortunately, there are plenty.
Some gameplay aspects and the focus on insurgency against a more powerful force are interesting and it is unique at times. However, the game takes a lot of influence from the Far Cry series, Just Cause, Crysis, and others. The game does not try to distinct itself from the others, and it’s a shame. The weapons modifications on the go are a blatant copy to Crysis, the open-hub area likes capturing territories and taking out certain number of enemies are too alike to the Far Cry series. The liberation itself feels satisfying at first, but really drags out as the player moves on in the story. The story is forgettable, and the player should ignore it. I wasn’t sure why I was expecting more from the story/lore as the developers rebooted the game’s lore from scratch to pure insanity – ignoring semi-realistic aspects to the sci-fi absurdity.
I am not a fan of the Crytek engine because of the poor PC optimization (the few exceptions are the first Crysis and Kingdom Come: Deliverance which I can tolerate) even with the exceeded system requirements. When I completed Homefront: The Revolution in 2023, my system specs were way beyond (RTX 3080, 32GB RAM, AMD 5900X), but technical issues persist.
At times, I feel like this game should have gotten a linear experience like Homefront (2011) because Homefront: The Revolution is a short game but stretches way too long than it should. Admittedly, I did not like the first Homefront title, but I brought this game on a steep discount (-87%) back in 2018 out of morbid curiosity. In recent times, there are retrospective videos about this game, claiming this game was over-hated and unfairly negative. Are some aspects for this game unfairly judged? Perhaps. To put this game at 7/10 or above is insanity. Do I recommend this game? No, but if you don’t mind on getting the game on a deep discount, then that’s fine too. The game is not for me due to the game’s creative bankruptcy and my loss of time investment. The game’s sale is tempting, but time is priceless. It’s better to invest time on a much better game. Homefront franchise ceased to exist for a reason – the developers don’t know what to do with it.
man that was fun.

This is an underrated Game. Very few games have Guerilla Combat, and this game does it well. Sure it may not be like an Arma 3 Guerilla Mod or a Classic Farcry. But if you pick up this game on sale for less than the price of a fastfood meal. Its a great fucking deal!
Only buy on sale, sometimes get repetitive but overall it's a solid game 7/10
The hate for this game is overblown. I wanted an urban Far Cry, I got it. The bugs I've run into weren't enough to make me stop. Deathwish + no HUD just made full story completion that much more satisfying and helps you look at the immersive environment and not a minimap/quest markers.
The dumbest story ever, combat was fun though
Boring, buggy don't bother.
surprised no one really mentions this game, its pretty good compared to other games in the same/simillar genre like Just Cause of Far Cry
Genuinely one of the most miserable experiences I've ever had to go through. I don't care to explain why. Take my my word for it or don't, it doesn't matter to me. I'm more than content with leaving this piece of garbage an emphatic "DO NOT RECOMMEND!"
Edit: Worst game I've ever played.
A great concept and atmosphere ruined by poor cut-scene pacing and shooting. The more intricate mechanics are poorly explained to the player and the gunplay feels janky at best. Sometimes you 1 tap enemies and other times you they survive 6 shots to the head. Overall disappointing experience.
I love gorilla warfare
Fun, but glitchy. Locks up now and again.
nice game
The story is fairly short, i beat it twice whilst also doing side missions and collectables and only have 11 hours in the game. Enemies can be fun to fight but also annoying. Definitely not worth a price tag above $15 and even that's pushing it. Limited variety of weapons and attachments but the atmosphere is done really well. I can't recommend buying this game unless you get a good deal on it.
Cool gun customization. It was just.. difficult to fully vibe with. Probably a "good enough" game, I just struggled to have fun with it, personally.
You know what? Just based on the technical/graphical achievement of this game Im going to give this a positive review. To remind how good things used to be. Every game now days seems to suffer from bad performance or stutter/framepacing issues. Trash PC ports riddled with technical issues. Not this game. This game still looks really good and holds up well against modern titles, while running buttery smooth without any stuttering what so ever. Great lighting with modern features and with good fps mechanics this game deserves more love. Oh how I wish things would go back to the old days where devs gave a fuck about optimization and smooth framepacing.
It got a worse rep for being stuck in development hell but it was a step up from the first installment. Still a mediocre title through and through so I wouldn't play it unless you want to play the sequel for the sole purpose of playing the sequel.
Homefront: The Revolution was a fun game. I did experiance some bugs but it didn't impact the gameplay. I personally would recommend it if you enjoy single player games and kinda want a far cry experiance that isn't farcry
This is a fantastic FPS game, you don't play it like CoD, you need to be tactical, great graphics and atmosphere.
a better FarCry 6
the story line could be better but it is fun i have nothing negative to say about it its a good run through game if your bored and wanna focus on something else
A bit old, but with a very nice story, I think it's worth trying
Starts off Great, and Then...
This is an awesome game in the beggining but then slowly becomes repetitive and dry as you continue to play the game, all of the missions start to blur together and your wondering and hoping when the next cut scene will be so you know your getting to the end of the game hopefully so you can beat it just so you can see what happens at the end. This was something that just didn't really deliver on what it was supposed to be and what it could have been in my opinion.
In my opinion, I would wait for a sale if you are looking at getting this and due the long shelve life that this game has I would ONLY wait for a sale, or just end up not getting it.
Fight for freedom by being a glorified errand boy...
