Story
Four years into the brutal military occupation, America is on its knees.
Philadelphia - once the birthplace of Independence - has become a ghetto, where surveillance drones and armoured patrols keep the population at heel, crushing any dissent with savage force.
Her once-proud citizens live in a police state, forced to collaborate just to survive, their dreams of freedom long since extinguished.
But in the badlands of the Red Zone, in the bombed out streets and abandoned subways, a Resistance is forming. A guerrilla force, determined to fight for their freedoms despite overwhelming odds and ignite the second American Revolution.
But Freedom always has a price…

this game is horrible, 0/10, owning it is an aura loss
It's alright, but it’s held back by clunky mechanics and a forgettable story. Worth grabbing for a few bucks if you’re into dystopian shooters, just don’t expect a masterpiece.
After all these years, it is still a fun game. It's a pretty simple game and the story is interesting. For fans of FPS games, this is definitely worth the money if you find it on sale.
idk why the hate for this game its pretty okay
reminds me of terminator resistance
Its a good game. Dont listen to bad reviews.
This games crashes after every 5-10 min i wont recommend any one to buy this game just to waist time
Love this game, I can't speak for the state it was in on launch, but I just finished it now and I loved the game and all DLC. Really worth the price with the current sale, basically the same price as a cup of coffee for a one of a kind experience, there aren't many games that put you in a situation where you care about your resources, but since this game is a story of a revolution against the norks, you face the limitation of what an insurgency would face, forcing you to think smart and use terrain advantage to win. TL;DR better than wolfenstein imo story wise.
This game is great and makes my american penner hard, but its not very polished but again this was made in 2016 so I can't bash it that hard, the story wasn't bad and it has a lot of play time if you tried to beat it as fast as you could it would still take at the least 5 hours and there's a co-op mode to add a few more hours but in the end great game and would start a revolution in the homefront to see a 3rd game, stay good everyone and fuck the Norks
At it's core, it's not bad. Sale for 2,99? Try it, it can't hurt. Decent graphics and gunplay.
But after a while it gets pretty stale, because it feels you do the same things over and over again. Liberate a part of the map, one out of three animations (wow).
very cool story line pretty fun game
I'm mixed review on this game. As that being said there are good and bad about this game. First of all the story line is good, but is has some small bugs here and there. Sometime if your using a cheat engine you may experience some bugs and glitches to a bit worse. Some of you may say why? Why is because I've already completed it before without cheats. But anyways the graphics from when the game was made is cool and how you can mod your guns and change them from a pistol to a smg and so on with the rest. Now the negative part is the game ends for you either have to go back to the save before the last mission or just start a new game, also no profiles for you can have multiple saves for your family and friends, the DLC's are so short you can complete it in no time unlike the main game and the main character in the main game doesn't have a voice actor which i like it but don't at the same time i like it that's your preference if you like it or not. If they were still working on this game I'd would say Please make the DLC's longer and more fun then short and simple, but that's not the case. If I had to give it a rating between 1 and 10 I would say its a 8 out of 10. As of right now with the Sale on the game for like a few $ its a great price even if you don't like it your not out a lot of money.
Was well and good for the first 10 hours. The setup is nonsense and the story is mid, of course, but for 3 clams I knew what I was in for. The shooting feels decent. A little spongey if anything, but alright. I really enjoyed the weapon customization, a system that I've seen carry over from other titles that use Deep Silver like Exodus.
However, unlike Exodus, after the 10 hour mark the game began to inexplicably freeze every 30 or so minutes, right in the middle of objectives for missions. No amount of dinking with graphics, resetting, updates or fixes could remedy this issue. It was surprisingly upsetting, I was enjoying my time through the game.
I wish I could give this a good rating, but the game has major performance issues. I would pass.
Doesn't work on steam deck, just leaving for awareness. it loads the intro video about North Korea tech but after crashes.
Very fun game. It uses map zones and you have to go to portal doors to load between them. first person perspective. The on the fly weapon part swapping is a neat feature. so for example the pistol when you hit the key it allows you to swap off the pistol slider for say a silencer or a machine pistol slider, also can take off or put on say a handle for the rail and swap off n on scopes, lasers, sometimes silencers or vented muzzle break. Colonial marines does this also but in the settings menu, this game does it live during gameplay, some players will find this annoying, as you can take damage limiting usage or to rush to avoid damage from enemies.
my personal preference, id prefer a 3rd person camera. The 1st person camera is good, but for me i get motion sickness.
This should have been the first and only game in the franchise , its as good as the original is generic.
i played this game back in release on Xbox, and now on PC - I've added an infodump with my experiences of this game on my computer!
• CPU - Intel i7 3770
• GPU - Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti
• RAM - 16GB DDR4
+ Running off of an External SSD.
InfoDump:
The game runs at a steady 59-64 fps, at loading around 49, and during cutscenes etc at 100-120.
Cry Engine is fucking terrific and this game is insanely optimised, nevermind my fps which I don't even get on low-mid CS2 settings, it looks like unreal engine 5 but runs like its on steroids and speed.
Sometimes the animations can be choppy but are ALWAYS snapped to their intended item (if you decide to use bolt cutters on a door it'll automatically snap to where you would actually use the bolt cutters and not some random part of the door) and there are places you can get stuck on (fences will automatically put you into a slide, and if you're near a wall you'll be zooming) but if eventually it kicks you off on its own. These little QoL changes just make the game feel so much more real.
Yes this game might seem a little of the evasive type but even then you get to explore caches which are in rooms! AND ROOMS! DID I MENTION THERE IS 3D INTERIORS EVEN ON PLACES YOU CANT ENTER?!
As for gun play, every time you upgrade your gun and add attachments you will see a noticeable difference in damage or accuracy unlike other games where its just a slither - and also did i mention you can literally customise your weapons on the run including changing their intended use like turning a fucking Pistol into an SMG using a CONVERSION KIT?! (mind blowing)
unfortunately you cant change fov so 0/10
Game was fun until it glitched on Defend against the KPA around the city section, the game didn't allow any soldier to die on the KPA side, but if i stabbed them, they would "die" in place, but still be an active blip on the screen. I tried restarting the level to experience the same glitch. Frustrating as hell. There's no way I want to replay the preceding chapter just to see if it glitches again, so I'm done.
The camera perspective never shifts to show the character, and there are long, unskippable cutscenes. I didn’t like the shooting mechanics. Overall, it’s just a game that I didn’t like and found quite off-putting
got the game for $3
Had to refund this game due to input lag.
good
Good graphics but it's so bland it feels like a waste of time.
I've always really liked this game for some reason despite its various flaws. It has a somewhat enjoyable but largely forgettable story, accompanied by a fair amount of bugs (first time I played on Xbox, the ending mission broke and didn't allow for progression). The guns are somewhat fun to use, even though the arsenal is limited since it's just a few weapons where you can buy alternate kits for (like turning the pistol into an SMG or the assault rifle into a machine gun). It's satisfying to slowly liberate districts bit by bit and have areas where allies will show up to back you up in a firefight, even if it will start to feel a little repetitive later on. There are parts where the game shows its brokenness, like when it will spawn enemy reinforcements in the middle of the street in plain view just after you managed to kill 5 or 6 guys and a couple of drones. Still, at a few bucks, I think this game is definitely worth a playthrough.
That said, after playing both console versions which are locked at 30FPS, I wanted to play it again with a more smooth experience, so I got the PC version. That's where I found out that this isn't the greatest PC port. Tried it first on Rog Ally X and the framerate averaged between 33-43FPS. Pretty much same with the Steam Deck. Tweaking the settings and trying a few fixes online from back in the day did absolutely nothing to fix this. No reason a game this old should run poorly on modern hardware, even on a handheld PC. Thankfully I was able to get the full 144FPS on my 4090, so it at least seems that with enough raw power, the game will run fine. The other issue I have with this version is that it doesn't have cloud save support (while both console versions do), so upon trying this on multiple different devices, I've had to restart the game each time. You could always transfer the save file between devices, but it's annoying if you're bouncing between handheld and desktop.
Last thing worth mentioning since I'm sure it's what most people who still buy this game nowadays care about, HD Timesplitters 2. Nice little bonus.
:)
How did they know there was a revolution happening in 2025?
fun
every hour of playing i was getting a black screen and had to shut off the game . the game is good but they need to work on the freezing problem
I'm close to finishing the first area and the game is pretty decent. The games aesthetic is probably the best thing about the game so far they really did a good job with the map building. The gameplay is pretty basic. Its all about capturing blocks, taking down enemies in a typical shooter fashion, and the standard open world stuff in this case jobs and collectables (radios/stashes). Its nothing special but its enjoyable. I would pick it up on sale.
Edit: I just finished the campaign and I have to say the story is fantastic. I also found the characters really enjoyable. My main concerns with this game are the bugs and some of the strikepoints. Firstly the bugs didn't affect the main mission they were mostly small bugs around the game but it can be pretty buggy at times which is a shame. Enemies tend to spawn out of nowhere alot this might be a design rather than a bug but it wasn't fleshed out enough if it was. As for strikepoints some of them are really difficult to figure out theres only one way into them and the game gives you no direction on how to get into them. I think overall I had to google 3-4 of them mainly later stage but still annoying. Other than that the game really was better than I expected.
EXTREEMELY disrespectful considering the time america flattened north korea so hard that they had to live underground for a while. but its a good game if you pretend the KPA is an american corporation. it makes it feel way more realistic.
Underrated, doesn't deserve the hate it's got. Super detailed open world, extremely immersive, great atmosphere, good gameplay. Like an urban Far Cry.
This game is great and deserved more polisahing to improve AI and multiplayer mode The story is great and the open world missions are good but too repetitive. I wished there were different missions like when you are in the prison district, help a reistance fighter escape, capture a warden or KPA official, steal blueprints for the resistance to study and in other districts issions like sabotaging a vehicle depot, yhold a KPA television studio, steal chemicals or an experimental aircraft, etc.
The currency system is innovative : getting to salvage around food, clothes and other necessity goods is great buut there should be a black market in some key districts or a resistance armorer or arms dealer to exchange those goods instead of having to return to a safe house and use a weapons locker.
The multiplayer system is dead. No one is even playing on it anymore I wished they had incuded maps from Homefront along with the revolution maps
I wish this game to be ressurected from ashes and have a community again as good as the one we find in COD titles.
It's not the best thing in the universe but it's fun, and it gives you access to Timesplitters 2 levels and with TS2Redux you can play the entire game too!
That's about the only way we're ever gonna play a Timesplitters game on PC natively :c
I played through the whole single player campaign. In addition, my brother and I are playing the multiplayer resistance mode.
To be forthright, the game is glitchy. I'm running it under Proton on Linux, but people report the same under Windows. Primarily, in later levels and in multiplayer, it starts to stutter for no reason after 30-60 minutes of gameplay. Exiting and restarting the game fixes this.
Had I paid $50+ for it, I would have been disappointed. However, for the $10 I paid for it on Steam winter sale, it is well worth it for your entertainment dollar. It's a decent semi-open world shooter, with minor crafting elements, and blends stealth with all out assaults quite well. The play length is good for that sale price and, overall, I'm happy that I bought it.
From the game director's note at the end, it appears there was a rocky road to release - financial problems, etc. Honestly, this kind of feels like how Cyberpunk 2077 would have ended up if CDPR hadn't kept putting development time into it. Conversely, I think that if Dambuster had continued to work in this for a year after release, polishing it and adding a whole separate expansion as CDPR did with the excellent Phantom Liberty, then it could have gone from good to great.
I've heard the issues, and I can certainly agree with a bunch of them, but I had my fun with this, and I don't see why a lot of people wouldn't.
it's decent but nothing special, also bugs and shit enemy
Homefront: The Revolution offers an ambitious and visually striking alternate history shooter that immerses players in a meticulously crafted vision of an occupied Philadelphia. Despite its narrative and gameplay challenges, the game shines through its impressive world-building, featuring a richly detailed urban environment where every bombed-out building and propaganda-covered landmark tells a story of resistance and oppression. The game's most compelling feature is its innovative weapon customization system, allowing players to transform their firearms on-the-fly with remarkable smoothness, creating dynamic combat scenarios that keep the gameplay engaging. While the resistance movement's characterization falls short of nuanced storytelling, the game's varied districts—ranging from tense red zones to carefully controlled yellow zones—provide a diverse and atmospheric playground for players to explore and liberate. The visual design is particularly noteworthy, with exceptional lighting and environmental details that capture the grim reality of a city under North Korean occupation, making Homefront: The Revolution an imperfect but intriguing shooter that offers moments of genuine excitement and immersion amid its structural shortcomings.
Fun game overall, got a little repetitive but yeah. 6/10
this game is nothing like the last one. 10 minutes in and you still are watching a cut scene
The game may not of been the shining example of a Triple A title, but the concept and game play are what make it a great experience. With the amount of times this game has traded hands its honestly a miracle the game came out the way it did. I hope the opportunity for a sequel arrives so the studios that did work on this title can put forth a consolidated effort.
Overall, if you enjoy shooter games and don't mind a few flaws, it might still be worth checking out, especially if you find it on sale
even without the glitches it is still boring
its not extremely long but it is extremely good with multiple stories
10/10
Apart from some bugginess, the game ran well and bottom line was fun; WELL worth picking up on sale. The only real criticism is it offers nothing new over the established 'Ubisoft formula' for open world games but it will scratch that open world itch just fine. The DLC's are all quite short but nicely done and add some good lore and closure to the story.
Homefront: The Revolution offers an open-world rebellion against an occupying force, featuring great ideas and decent visuals. However, poor performance and repetitive gameplay hold it back. Worth a try for fans of Far Cry, but lower your expectations.
It was fun until it wasnt. Putting uncompletable side quests aside due to bugs.... the game is mostly vacant and on top of that progress is pegged to finding X qty of Y enemy.....which I could not get to spawn after searching for far too long.
This is one of the best, if not the best, FPS game I've ever played. Awesome story and game play. Graphics are great too. I didn't experience any game breaking bugs. Played great for me. Highly recommend.
the movement and the animations in this game are better than a lot of today (2024) games. Highly recommended
Good game, drastically different from the 1st game. The ambience is awesome. Only problem is the AI is dogshit, not in an aimbot way, but in it is like handing your 5 year old sibling the controller, you can walk right in front of them and they do not see you, their aim is pretty bad and you have a better chance killing yourself while jumping off a ledge than dying to the enemies.
A Revolution in Napping
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Homefront: The Revolution promises a thrilling fight for freedom but delivers a revolution that’s more like a slow-motion nap. The story is flat, the characters are forgettable, and the plot twist never arrives. Combat is clunky, and the AI is either hilariously stupid or I’m secretly a tactical genius.
The open world is lifeless, and driving feels like steering a shopping cart through an empty parking lot. If you’ve ever played a Ubisoft game, you’ll recognize the endless checklist of boredom – capture this outpost, collect that thing, repeat. It’s like someone copy-pasted Ubisoft's to-do list into this game and forgot to make it fun.
Graphics are fine-ish, like a soggy sandwich. In short, *Homefront: The Revolution* is more of a snooze-fest than a revolution. If you want excitement, try literally anything else—or just take a nap. It’ll be more engaging.
I enjoyed the game. It has a fun story, just don't try and find the holes in it and actually enjoy it.
