Story
Four years into the brutal military occupation, America is on its knees.
Philadelphia - once the birthplace of Independence - has become a ghetto, where surveillance drones and armoured patrols keep the population at heel, crushing any dissent with savage force.
Her once-proud citizens live in a police state, forced to collaborate just to survive, their dreams of freedom long since extinguished.
But in the badlands of the Red Zone, in the bombed out streets and abandoned subways, a Resistance is forming. A guerrilla force, determined to fight for their freedoms despite overwhelming odds and ignite the second American Revolution.
But Freedom always has a price…

And the single player campaign is just the start – in Co-Op you and your friends can form your own Resistance Cell and become renowned as Heroes of the Revolution.

Although it's quite mediocre and amateurish, while feeling like a mix of Call of Duty and Far Cry (and Half Life 2?), it's still decent fun and definitely alright for the price (Around 5 euro including the short DLCs that tie into the story, which by the way is the only somewhat acceptable use for DLCs).
They could've absolutely crafted a better story and game but it's not horrible, ESPECIALLY for a small team. Although I managed to dislike two of the four NPC protagonists (Parrish and Dana, Dana foremost)
It doesn't overstay it's welcome and the horrible AI + plentiful bugs are just entertaining more than anything.
BUT the one angry gripe I have with it is the optimization, never before seen a game that can run at your refresh rate (240fps in my case) and like 30fps in the same playthrough, regardless of graphical settings (which aren't the best themselves).
Awful PC Port, only really the early section of the story is 'patched'. Once you get to a certain point the bugs start to cascade and I can't stand it.
Good game and good story. My only gripe is weapon switching and reloading is too slow considering you will be fighting dozens of soldiers at a time.
This isn't a bad game but it's not mind blowing either. Very basic shooter, nothing fancy. A good sale buy.
Encountered only one bug that required a hard restart, otherwise a few that only required a save reload to fix.
As far as gameplay goes, nothing innovative. Stop me if you've heard this before - go to an area, infiltrate checkpoints to open the map more, do that a few times, finish game. Along the way, come across a few decent NPCs and a few more forgettable ones.
Too much of the ending is completely hands off and unintentionally funny. Dana grabbing a bomb and sliding under a truck to sacrifice herself "for the cause"... like what? You could just do that with an RC?
If it's on a super low sale, I'd recommend it only if you're into this kinda gameplay.
Mediocre to bad. It's a checklist game where you can't even complete the checklists. The "job" you just picked up wants you to destroy a bunch of drones with the shotgun? Too bad, because you've already liberated the area and those no longer spawn. Same with the one that wants you to photograph convoys. The map even tells you you need to destoy 5 armored personel carriers to get some extra liberation points for unlocks. Guess what? I was stuck on 2/5 because I had liberated the area. At least with the jobs, you can theoretically do them in other regions you have not liberated, but this thing was area-specific. And no, trying to exploit the blimps does not work because they only send troops and Wolverines at you.
You also have to collect a bunch of junk items in order to sell them and earn enough cash for weapons, attachments, gear and upgrades. Looting everything quickly gets stale as it's barely worth anything and set to infinitely respawn at the same location. This means that if you want to get something like the expensive weapon upgrades, you probably have to run around the same location for hours, looting the same 3 lockers over and over.
Nearly all of the weapons feel terrible to use as they do too little damage and make you hold down SHIFT in order to steady your breath while shooting. The recoil is too high otherwise. I have no idea why you'd ever use the pistol, SMG, assault rifle, "freedom launcher" or shotgun over the M14 because that gun is not only more accurate, but double-taps the regular enemies and destroys vehicles in a single magazine.
The "strongholds" in the first zone were also pitiful. They are large sections that got closed off by metal walls. The game tells you you need to jump a bike over the walls or blow a hole in them using explosives. But guess what? There is also a door you can go through using the bolt cutters you picked up in the tutorial. So why would I ever use the other two options?
Once you get inside you realise there is nothing much to the structure and it only has like 5 enemies. It's basically the stronghold outposts from Far Cry 4 but less heavily-guarded than the regular ones from 3. I don't even think they have an alarm system. Even if they did it made no difference to how easy they were to take over. On "hard".
The blimps are a disappointment as well. They are teased multiple times as these "if they see you, all hell breaks loose" scenarios. In reality if you get seen, they will send one squad after you and then lose interest almost immediately. I had to force myself to stay in one spot and shoot at them frequently while trying to exploit them for job completion. Couldn't even get the squad to spawn at one location I was trying that at. Only the Wolverines kept showing up.
When all of these things start adding up you quickly realise why the TimeSplitters 2 fan patch has an option to remove all game files except the ones needed to play TS2. That is probably the best part of the game. That it has the entirety of TimeSplitters 2 hidden within it. Unfortunately, TS2 has its own problems as it is a very bare bones port that doesn't allow you to bind weapons to number keys and still only has the 1 checkpoint in the middle of the level.
game crash down when into a fight and over and over again
This was recommended to me by a good friend and despite the bugs that you may encounter i really enjoyed the story and most of all the gun fights in this game are very fun.
So there I was freedom fighter, guerrilla rebel, DIY weapons expert armed with a gun made out of old motorcycle parts, duct tape, and pure American spite. Welcome to Homefront: The Revolution, where North Korea took over the U.S., and apparently forgot to patch their guard AI.
This game is like ordering a gourmet burger and getting a sloppy, falling-apart mess but weirdly, it still kinda tastes good. If you can tolerate some jank, Homefront: The Revolution has a rebellious charm and some cool ideas buried under the rubble.
github has HFTSRedux/TS2Redux for a mostly finished bypass of this game's game files for the better one hidden inside it deletes everything that isnt needed to play Timesplitters
main game's a big Meh but once you finish it and get to the DLC stories its gets enjoyable
Bought for timesplitters 2, stayed for Homefront and Timesplitters.
really weird that the PC port of Timesplitters 2 is called "Homefront: The Revolution"
It's a game. Straight forward shooter with some gimmicks... play it. have fun.... *shrugs*
there is no mixed button here
but I give it a yes buy it while on sale despite the cluncky and rough gameplay
because in this game SHOTGUN finally a SHOTGUN
not like those french devs ubishit takes 2 or 3 more rounds just to kill 1 dude
Was a fun game. Liked the DLCs actually kept the story going and not "another persons story" Game had some issues but I am partial for the fact I love it when games show the actions you take affecting the world. (seeing people fighting for themselves, taking vehicles out etc) I would say get it on sale and get the story DLC for the whole story they add likeeee 30ish mins to about a hour and a half of content a piece and wraps up the story. Time Splitters 2 was fun as well
Regularly goes on sale for $2.99. its worth it for that much. DEFINITELY not worth $19.99
It's a good game with an interesting concept. I really enjoyed playing with the weapons. I like how they make the guns convertible, making them fit any play-style you choose. Yeah, this game might be a bit slept on, but I really liked playing it.
Great game, coming back to get my fill due to everything going on in Merica haha
This game is a mixed bag for me as its a mix between a bargain bin Far Cry and an actual AAA game. I basically mean it reminds me gameplay wise of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, (another Far Cry Like game) but with more polish.
However unlike Ghost Warrior 3, which is unique with its fun sniper gameplay, Homefront just feels kinda pointless to play. Its more Far Cry which if you enjoy then you should try this, just dont plan on replaying it ever.
5.5/10
I'm GENUINELY going to F U C K I N G tweak for how many crashes I encounter in this game.
good
if you looking for good story and some good gameplay, maybe yes...on sales
if you want to collect all achievements along the way then f no.
enemy can spawn like "surprise mommy's daddy"
some bugs even blocked you from progressing and you have to find a way to glitch it out
glitch and bugs af, some achievement even progress like bad day stock
my last attempt of achievement is kills 10 with trap, it progress like this 5>6>5>8>9>8 and then stuck
If freedom means janky AI and fetch quests, I surrender, Feels less like a revolution, more like a budget uprising.
Close enough, welcome back Timesplitters 2
No but actually, this game contains the entirety of TS2 within it used for a little easter egg and there's a community patch that can delete everything else and just leave you with a modern port of TS2. It regularly goes on sale for cheap, and it's worth it for that alone in my eyes.
6.0/10, at least Dana dies
One of the reasons I bought this game was for TimeSplitters 2, and I still haven't made it to the area where you can access the arcade machine for it, I've been rushing through the story on the easiest settings, and trying to use the best weapons I could have, But the game is SO Painfully Average it's insulting, No redeeming qualities, Nothing that hasn't been done before or has been done better in the future, (Or the past for that matter) The shooting is painfully average as well, just barely passable, enemy A.I is not fun to fight, And the characters are just awful, I hate games that have this and FORCE you to watch cutscenes, walk behind the jackasses that like to stop in place and say "Hey, listen to what I have to say it is quite important." with no way to walk around them while they talk, or able to go ahead of them. EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER sucks in this game, You don't care about The Revolution, You don't care about what you are fighting for, and not to mention this game cost $20 by default, there are so many better games that are either Cheaper, or Exactly the same price that do what this game does but so much better. If you are buying this just to access TimeSplitters 2 on Steam... why?! You have emulators that can run the game just fine. I bought it not just for TimeSplitters 2, But I honestly thought this would be one of those 6/10 or 7/10 games that are actually kinda fun, but damn... this game is just not it. Don't buy this for TimeSplitters 2, first off PCSX2 runs it great, and Dolphin has a special custom made emulator that lets you use Mouse and Keyboard for TimeSplitters 2. Skip this crap even when it's on sale.
bought if SOLELY for TS2
TLDR: Too many crashes on AMD. But game is decent.
Game's fun, stealth is lackluster but possible on occasion but this game calls for direct confrontation. Beware of crashes on AMD GPU after several hours, well past your refund window.
this game is not just boring and repetitive but also really cliche.
I paid £2.66 for this, I would recommend at that price but not full. The fov is terrible, it didn't bother me on foot although not what I would choose if I had the option but on the motorbike it was annoying as hell. You can't change the audio language to be different than the interface which I prefer to do.
It has its flaws and bugs, but if you get it on sale, it's definitely worth it.
FUN GAME
This game is very good!
not bad
Fun but full of buggy things. Wait for sale like I did.
Fun game.
hunting commies is fun
it's time to split!
Bought game on sale for $2.99 --- ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH $19.99
Got about 19 hours out of the base game, had fun overall but don't come in with high expectations.
The weapon swap mechanic is interesting, the world itself and the plot is entertaining. It's a fun game to just turn your brain off and play.
DLC is not recommended
Honestly, would probably be okish with a controller. Feels like an xbox game.... Shame I only have it on Steam lol. Gun control and movement is garbage with M&K. Would not recommend
ok game I guess lol.
Game is sort of meh, but was apparently duct taped together and released at the last second. So, it is relatively impressive from that perspective. Basically a super budget Far Cry in a city. Story is meh, gunplay is meh, definitely a bit buggy. Game makes up for it by having a few unique game design choices and flawed (in a good way) characters. Pretty fun for 3 dollars.
6.8/10
I can't get any progress in the game because it crashes every 10 minutes
A very mediocre game.
The game looks and runs well. But it's so boring. The same thing over and over. Kill a few enemies and capture a building.
When you are riding on the motorcycle. You can't even open your map. You need to hop off. Open map then hop back on. When you are on your phone looking for a supply crate. You can't jump or other actions. You need to hop off your phone. Move then back on your cell.
"A beautiful disaster worth your patience"
Homefront: The Revolution is both brilliant and frustrating — a breath of fresh air where the developers dared to experiment and bring something new to the table. And for that alone, it deserves recognition.
That said, the game is undeniably broken in many ways. There are so many flaws that listing them all here feels pointless. Just know that this is not a polished experience — it’s a rough gem that constantly demands your patience and forgiveness.
Still, I’m leaving a positive review. Why? Because this game has scenes, ideas, and moments that most modern studios wouldn’t have the guts to include. It’s bold. It tries. It fails often, but it tries, and that matters.
Buy it — but only at a deep discount. You’ll need to give it a second chance… again and again. But if you can endure its many flaws, you’ll find something special underneath.
To the developers: don’t give up. Learn from this, and move forward. You have vision — now refine it.
It really is just Far Cry.
If you love Far Cry, then this is not far cry from Far Cry.
Far cry but revolution
I absolutely loved this game. While it is not without its bugs, I couldn't peel myself away from it once I started. Great story, mechanics, gun-play, and enough freedom to do things in many different ways. Will be playing again soon!
