Описание

Some of London’s busiest railway routes serving two of the City’s busiest termini are featured in this stunning new South London Network route for Train Simulator.

The myriad of intersecting and crossing lines that today form the Greater London railway network features two of the capital’s most well-known and busiest termini – London Victoria and London Bridge.

The network of lines was first built in the latter half of the 1800s by a number of private railway companies operating at the time, including the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR), London, Brighton & South Coast Railway (LBSCR), London & North Western Railway (LNWR) and Great Western Railway (GWR).

On the banks of the River Thames lay the network’s main termini stations – London Victoria and London Bridge. The latter station was opened in 1836, making it the first and oldest of the current London railway termini today, although part of the station was demolished in the mid-1800s to make way for an enlarged terminus as we know it today.

London Victoria – now the busiest terminus in London – was opened 24 years later, originally as two stations operated by rival companies but in the early 1920s combined into one station by the Southern Railway.

As passenger services leave these two large termini, the lines cross some of the most densely built up areas of the UK’s capital city; as well as the main lines to West and East Croydon stations, a further nine mile (14km) line via Denmark Hill and a 16 mile (26km) outer circle route via Crystal Palace make up the South London Network.

The network also offers unrivalled and spectacular views of many of London’s famous landmarks, including The Shard, Battersea Power Station, City Hall, Crystal Palace Tower, Millwall Football Club’s ‘The New Den’ football ground, Tower Bridge and London Bridge.

Also included with the route for Train Simulator are two EMUs – a Southern Trains Class 456 and a Southeastern Class 375 ‘Electrostar’. Both are common sights on the Network and transport thousands of commuters into and out of the City on a daily basis.

The Class 456 was introduced onto the Southern Region in 1991 to replace ageing Class 416 2EPB units. Although most units have since been replaced by Class 455 and Class 377 units, many are still in service with South West Trains. The four-car Class 375 ‘Electrostar’ entered service in 2002. Due to their high power consumption, much of the third-rail power supply had to be upgraded on the Southern Region and are still used extensively on services across south London and on rural commuter services throughout Sussex and Kent.

Amazing route. DTG have done well with their choices for this. So many lines to choose from!

Great route that surprisingly works well on your Valve Steamdeck. Nice busy network for some scenario's good for 20 to 55 minute operations.

The South London Network (SLN) route DLC is an essential purchase. It provides the very best of what Train Simulator 2013 has to offer. You should be able to buy the route for under £5 in the monthly “sales”. You don’t have to pay £25 for this nearly decade-old software, so don’t. Only buy at £5 or below, and then invest the “saving” in more routes/trains (see below), when they are priced properly (with supposedly hefty “discounts” between 70% and 90%).

The developers clearly took some considerable care, back in 2014, to make the most of the South London Network (SLN) route DLC. There are multiple route paths on SLN, between mainline London Bridge and Victoria stations, and spurring out to Croydon and Crystal Palace (check the manual for a list). The whole route is built-out exceptionally well, with accurately detailed station builds and environs, even for the most minor stations. SLN provides an immersive and believable urban feel, and very realistic geography/gradient throughout. It looks amazing in all weathers, day and night. I personally know every one of the dozens of real-life stations in this pack, and I always feel surprisingly convinced by the sights, sounds and rhythms experienced when operating trains on these lines.

But that is not all – even though you already get a substantial chunk of 750V network with SLN, it is further expandable by joining it to London-Brighton (part of TS2013, or about £4), and/or the Chatham Main/Gillingham DLCs to build a much larger network. There are dozens of free Workshop scenarios for SLN gameplay (and route merges), so you absolutely do not need to buy the SLN Scenario Pack 01 (hopefully there won’t be a Pack 02), to enjoy this set of routes fully.

There are many examples of 750V rolling stock from other routes that can be used on/with SLN, such as Classes 73, 319, 375, 378, 402, 415, 419, 421, 422, 455, 456, 465 (from TS2014 London-Faversham), and diesels such as Classes 205 and 33.

With all of the above in place, the free Workshop scenarios really breathe life into a wonderfully immersive experience, with swarms of trains running in/out of London Bridge and Victoria, and around you. With careful “sale” purchases you could own several interconnected route DLC packs (with Workshop merges) and a wide range of rolling stock, all for about £30 in total.

I fully recommend the South London Network route DLC. If you intend to buy this SLN route as part of a shopping spree, to build out a collection as described above, then make sure it is only during a “sale” or you will be paying £200 too much.

Tip: Always buy the route DLCs first, so that you don’t buy any of the rolling stock twice.

This is a great network providing many choices of routes to run on. There is one issue that I have come across. I set a quick drive from London Bridge to West Croydon (via Crystal Palace) and was sent directly via Forest Hill, Sydenham and Norwood Junction. Hopefully DTG can correct that. Other than that I do recommend this DLC.

Although this is short there isn't an short limit of what you can do on this as there quite a lot for you to do with an max speed of 70 you aren't going to be getting up to speed for very long

This route is perfect for someone who is a fan of stop start operations railtours diversions freight and an short range of fast services from London Victoria and London Bridge to East Croydon

On this route you'll be using southern Thames link and overground stock with South Eastern and South West trains(South western railway) services passing

One thing i would have liked to have is the line to Beckenham junction and line the southern use

One thing that let's this down is the rolling stock you get the 375(377) reskined into an 375 livery and you get the class 456 as well which are both terrible in terms of modelling sounds and physics all are terrible it feels like im driving an rocket ship or lamboghini along the route not a emu

You'll be driving 377 387 456 455 66 59 171 and 378s and railtour traffic

If you are someone who likes stop-start operation, particularly as south London has an array of such services, then the South London Network is a must-have route.

There are plenty of scenario opportunities, not just from within the included rolling stock but also those that fit the criteria from other routes (such as the 377 from London to Brighton, the 465 from Chatham Main Line, 378 from North London Line, etc.) so it is worth waiting for a sale so you can bag extra goodies for the ordinary £17.99 price-tag. If you can't wait or want to be generous, £17.99 is a reasonable price to pay. There is large coverage with this map, meaning you can travel between London Bridge and Victoria via Herne Hill, Selhurst, or Crystal Palace. There are some opportunities missed, such as beyond to Beckenham Junction, but the map's purpose is to focus on the prominent lines in south London, not the entirety of Southern's network. If you intend to buy the route for this purpose, I recommend that you also subscribe to Danny Train's "South London to Brighton" route from Steam Workshop, which combines this route and the Brighton Main Line, giving birth to opportunities to drive directly between London Bridge and Brighton.

Ironically the London Overground signage does, to an extent, remove realism when you drive backdated rolling stock (such as the slammers) so grimy BR or NSE trains look out of place in a cleaner environment. As I said, if you can be put up with it, it doesn't take away much of the realism so no harm is done. Some significant changes have been made to the route in reality since its launch in 2014, as London Bridge has been rebuilt, a new fly-under was built near Bermondsey, and several London Overground stations have new entrances, but who's to say that DTG will relaunch the route in the future? Nevertheless, the route hasn't aged badly, it's more or less a time capsule from the mid-2010s.

In conclusion, the South London Network has got to be one of my favourite routes to drive, and I'm bound to be sure that it will be yours too. There's not a lot that can go wrong, and any rolling stock, whether a steam locomotive or a spanking new Class 700, will fit the bill.

Good route although there have been many changes to this route in the last few years regarding station layouts. One graphics / texturing / landscaping error concerning a station namely Clapham High Street where the track disappears under some ground texturing as it hasn't been flattened out. Other than that i'd recommend this route as i've travelled round this part of London many times.
