- Brothers in Arms — Choose to embody Ray or Thomas, each with a distinctive gameplay style (close- or long-range), specific abilities (lasso, dynamite, etc.) and arsenal of deadly weapons (dual guns, long-range carbine, etc.). Take advantage of their strengths and you just might survive some of the fiercest fights imaginable.
- Immersive Western Experience — Explore vast natural landscapes of the untamed mythical Old West on foot, horseback, in wagons and canoes. Visit iconic settings full of outlaws. The McCall brothers face a renegade Apache chief, a greedy Mexican bandit, a vindictive colonel — and those are just a few of the underhanded villains standing in the brothers’ way.

Just a really good blast of nostalgia from the PS3 era
plus, its a really fun game
Though the game is quite dated, it is still a lot of fun. The story is intriguing and I found this game to be a lot more enjoyable than the first. The gun play is also not half bad and being able to play both McCall's is pretty fun. One thing that did irritate me at times is how vulnerable you are to fall damage. It seems like you barley have to drop at all before you die. If you can overlook that, and the fact that the same is 15 years old, it is worth trying out! I also appreciate it as a solid addition to the western genre of games, which I believe is lacking titles as it is. Everyone knows of the RDR franchise but that is the only popular string of western games. Well, I can argue the Call of Juarez series is another great addition to that genre and should definetly be appreciated as such.
I enjoyed it.
I read some negative reviews and most of them are baseless. This game is awesome in every aspects. Graphics is great. Combat little bit easy but enjoyable. Liner story but interesting. Overall this game 8.5/10. Must try worth every penny.
I played COJ Gunslinger as a kid and loved it, and wanted to see what the full series had in store so i picked up the first two in a deal. After playing through the first installment, I entered Bound in Blood with fairly low expectations, mainly due to the first simply aging pretty poorly in many ways (though it was still enjoyable with a decent story), and knowing that BIB was released only 2 years later. Safe to say, I was blown away after just the first few missions at how much of a difference there was between the two. The graphics and cutscenes could easily pass for an early to mid 2010s shooter, and the voice acting is rather perfect for what it is. I really liked the story, especially having played the first although due to this being the prequel it is perfectly fine to be played on its own. The game play is what really got me hooked though. A nice balance of weapons that are unique and fun to use and well set up landscapes that never get too repetitive. I was truly sad when I neared the end knowing I would never experience the game for the first time again, though I do plan to play it again someday soon. The ability to switch between the brothers doesn't add a whole lot of replayability but it does add another aspect of creativity and customization to the game, as you will likely become accustomed to one of them over the other. Overall, I'm not going to tell you this is an incredible game that compares to the top western titles out there. However, for a somewhat buried part of a series you can find cheap, this is truly a hidden gem I am very glad I got to experience and highly recommend others do as well.
A short, moderately interesting shooter set at the end of the Civil War. Most missions give you the option to play as either brother, but the play style is virtually identical so that doesn't really add anything. The story is OK. Worth playing if you can get it nearly free.
I am a fan of Call of Juarez. So, to judge this game without favoritism or bias or any privilege, I looked through all negative reviews so that I can fairly write this review for those who have not brought this game yet.
First of all, anyone comparing Bound in Blood to Gunslinger is an absolute idiot. Seriously, who compares a 2009 game to one from 2013? Why not just compare Donkey Kong from 1981 to Elden Ring while they're at it? It's that ridiculous.
For the negative reviews that came from those who have technical issues, especially crashes during loading screen transitions, it's important for you, new comers, to also consider this carefully before purchasing the game. Because I have also had similar problems with Call of Juarez (2007) and couldn’t play it properly without modding. This kind of issue can significantly impact your overall experience, so it’s worth keeping in mind and prepare for it.
Now, let's talk about this game itself. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, though released in 2009, takes us back to events that occur before the original Call of Juarez (2007). In the 2007 game, you play as Ray McCall, an aging and hardened father. Bound in Blood, on the other hand, explores his younger years, delving into the story of Ray McCall and his two brothers. It beautifully unpacks how Ray’s journey led him to eventually become a pastor, providing depth to the character and adding rich backstory to the series. Despite being a prequel, the narrative stands strong, offering fans a compelling dive into Ray’s past.
The gunfights in this game are solid for their era. While they may not stand out by today’s standards, they were engaging and well-executed when the game was released, offering a satisfying experience for players who enjoy Western-style shootouts. The story is decent—not great, but not terrible either. While it doesn’t pack many surprises, it still manages to keep you interested enough to see how it all plays out. That said, certain parts of the game feel slow and tedious, and it can drag at times, leaving you a bit bored. However, if you’re a fan of the Call of Juarez series, it’s still worth giving a shot, as it adds some intriguing background to the lore.
I played it mostly on steam deck oled. The shooting mechanics were a bit clunky and not entirely accurate and better suited to keyboard and mouse rather than controller. The visuals looked great for such an old game, and the storyline was fairly good. For the price it was well worth it.
Good but not nice
Its so amazing
just play it and see for yourself
yeehaw
Braindead everything, the story is bland and the shooting plays like a Call of Duty campaign. You are very restricted with your movement during the entire game and just turn the baddies into ragdolls with your western themed pop guns in a guided shooting gallery. I prefer the graphics of this pissfilter era over the neon cyan turquoise cyberwave we have today, but this was made with consoles in mind so it looks like someone rubbed vaseline over a camera lense. Go play Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, it's even more linear but the shooting has better sense of impact than in this one.
It is too difficult for me, even on easy. There is no health bar or any way to heal.
this game is mighty fine goated
You want to do it quietly?

It's good asf i enjoy playing it again
Turns out this is a prequel to the first.
This game seems to have improved on most things, including performance, compared to Call of Juarez, but there was some things I preferred from the 1st, however nothing terrible. The dueling is a little different, it works better, but you have to learn a new way of doing it (got me killed like 10 times before I understood exactly what it wanted from me, still not sure what I was doing wrong the 1st 10 times).
I think my main disappointment is it feels like they botched the ending. If you played the 1st you know how this story will end more or less. Let's just say it was better in my head hearing the story in the 1st game than what I saw, Sure piss him off, I thought it was an accident and that made it more tragic. Then there was the last duel, like this guy is so irrelevant that nobody mentions him in the 1st lol. They shouldn't have had that last duel, it just didn't make sense to me.
story sucks ass but gameplay kicks it
I wanted to like this game so much, but the dueling mechanic is so fucking bad that I genuinely couldn't continue past the duel against Rattler. I actually started counting my tries and got up to 56 times before I gave up, which feels par for the course since the duel with the sheriff took a good bit of time too. The dueling in the first Call of Juarez wasn't even this infuriatingly difficult to actually get through since at least I could flail my mouse up and down like a retarded ape trying to plane a wooden board flat on one side. So I can't even enjoy the rest of the game. Which sucks, because I WAS enjoying the game. It's definitely rough and could have been polished more, but I was liking it.
The gunfights in the game are virtually impossible to win.
not as good as the original - AI is really dopey in this - but for an arcade shooter is fun
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is a Wild West FPS, which was released in 2009. The story begins in 1864 with the 2 brothers: Ray and Thomas McCall fighting in the American Civil War. After a successful battle, they are ordered by their commanding officer to retreat to reinforce supply lines. They refuse and instead desert to try to save their nearby home from the approaching Union Army. They arrive too late, finding the house partially destroyed, their mother dead, and their younger brother William, an upcoming priest, by her bedside. Vowing to return and rebuild the house in the future, the three leave. Meanwhile, the leader of the army wants to track them down and hang them for their desertion.
In the beginning of each mission, you get the chance to choose between Ray and Thomas to play. Both have their own style of playing, but both have more similarities than differences. All missions are played with the other brother on side who is played by AI and both characters are helping each other getting around. My teammate was quite smart and we got along pretty well with each other. The controls were smooth and the guns felt quite powerful. There's a lot of guns to choose from and also "secrets" to find, such as historical pictures or artworks with voice overs. During your gameplay you'll get across "gun stores" to purchase ammo and new guns, but I haven't used any of them, since the normal guns were enough and you can pick up the ammo from all the enemies on the battlefield. The game feels more like a shooting range, but the enemies acted quite smart and you depend on your partner to catch up with the mission's goal, so there's not much time to look around or you'll face the "Failed" screen a lot of times. What I dislike about the gameplay though, is the duels. The controls became pretty clunky and I often lost those battles, which led to frustration. Besides that, I really enjoyed playing the game itself.
The graphics look fine and I really liked the artstyle in this game. The music was capturing the Wild West theme pretty well and the voice acting was done pretty good as well with convincing dubbing actors. The story has some surprises and twists for good and I finished the game in around 7 hours.
Overall I really enjoyed playing this game since I like the Wild West theme and the story was written pretty well with a good voice acting. I do recommend playing it if you enjoy Wild West games with a good storyline as well and sometimes you might get surprised by the twists in the storyline.
A good old-style western shooter from back in the days of 2009, a story of three brothers fighting for faith and justice.

The game itself runs great without problems on modern systems as Win10, and zero crashes encountered during the whole play through. recommendable in a sale or if you played the game before and wanna rewind the old memories of this enjoyable shooter.
cowboy games nothing better and fighting along side your brothers
Honestly did not enjoy as much as the first Call of Juarez despite this one seeming to be the more appreciated game. For the first half and some change of the game I was honestly pretty bored, it was just a by the books janky shooter with underwhelming story, characters, direction and gameplay. It introduces a handful of mechanics which would be cool if they were ever able to be used effectively or outside highly specific, linear scenarios.
For example, one playable character's whole kit is essentially built around stealth, but outside of the stealth tutorial, guess how many times you can utilize it effectively. Once, on the second to last level. That's it. Pretty much any other time in the game the enemy is pre-alerted to you or at best you will get one or 2 unalerted kills before all hell breaks loose which is essentially useless when 2 bullets get the job done just as well.
Outside of that, you can also use your lasso to climb surfaces, could have been cool in practice but outside of linear sections, when are you ever allowed to use it? Never. As for the other playable character, he really doesn't have anything special to him, he is a pure run and gun character, but is also the best choice for pure loadout and fun. Outside of story preferences, you don't really have any reason not to play as him. He is the only character that can dual wield pistols which is by far the most effective weapon loadout in the game, especially when the pistols have speed loaders after the first few levels. You can basically hold W and mow down everything in your path without breaking a sweat, even on hard difficulty.
What's unfortunate is that I recall the first game having a lot more flexibility for sandbox style gameplay. As I recall, when you played as Billy pretty much every level was able to be played through in full stealth or at least close to it. It just really feels like a step back.
The level design picks up a little bit and paces the action better (faster lol) in the last few chapters in the game, but by then it's nowhere near as satisfying as it should be because the first 4-5 hours were just a slog.
The combat is clunky and dated, but it is no less fun to just walk through town and mow down enemies with your dual wielded pistols. The game does do that very well at the very least. If you want to feel like a badass pistol toting desperado, you will definitely get it from this, but why you would choose it over contemporaries like Gun or Red Dead Revolver? I'm not really sure. Maybe if you played them all already like myself.
I don't necessarily NOT recommend Bound in Blood, but it is a very soft recommendation if you're looking for this exact vibe and have exhausted your other options. It definitely does some things pretty well but it just never really gets past feeling mediocre, especially when played after the first one which to me felt much more fleshed out, or Gunslinger which is just an amazingly underrated game.
The best of the Call of Juarez franchise, has aged perfectly, one of the #1 in its time.
If you like gun you will like this game
This game is glorious and one of my favourite games I've ever played
CALL OF JUAREZ : BOUND IN BLOOD
ALL BOUND, NO CALL, LESS JUAREZ
This is Call of Juarez Bound in Blood, the sequel and (as an added bonus) prequel to Call of Juarez. You play as one of 2 McCall brothers, Thomas or Ray. In the game, Ray was a crazed preacher type who wanted revenge and justice. He's still all of that, but isn't the preacher until the end of the game. Thomas is the brother that ended up becoming the father of Billy Candle, and is one of the 2 people who were murdered in the start of the first game that set Ray and Billy on their adventure.
This game tells the story of how all 3 McCall brothers became what they were. The 2 older McCall brothers are Confederate deserters during the American Civil War period, who ran out on orders to march for Atlanta, Georgia in the vain attempt to prevent their family homestead being burnt down and sacked by Union soldiers. William, the 3rd brother, is a man of the Lord, and refused to join the military. He maintained the homestead up until the end of the battle for Atlanta, where they deserted and fled west to seek riches to rebuild. The game plays out differently than the last game, and its in game mechanics are much better if you play exclusively as Ray. Thomas mechanics are based around quickness, acrobatics, and stealth. They are all neat talents, but ultimately tanking every fight as Ray is much more satisfying. Also, instead of playing like a janky mess, this game plays more like a 2008 Xbox 360 era game. Unfortunately, that means its brown, blurry, over contrasted, and filled with weird animations that don't fit the FOV. But hey, its more entertaining than the original.
+Pros
+Gameplay is far superior to the sequel.
+Vast variety of weapons, and an upgradeable arsenal as you play the game.
+Limited free roam sections that break up the game nicely.
+A narrative that is fun to play.
+Ray is fun to play.
+Audio levels are balanced.
+Better graphics as a sequel.
+No parkour.
+Rootin'
+Tootin'
+Shootin'
-Cons
-Playing as Thomas is a drag, and is extremely limited in fun factor. Stealth sections have yet to be fun in this series of games.
-The difficulty of the game finale is pretty rough. You'll want to finish this game the same week you start, or suffer from that skill fall off that makes finales suck.
-The on rails sections are not that fun. There are a few on horseback ,and boats, and wagons, so there is variety in setting. But, they still suck. The issue is that getting hit by enemy damage causes the screen to blur, and the issue with that is during the on rails sections the enemies are capable of hitting you as soon as they spawn without you being able to see them.
-The native scenes are tacky.
-The theme of the game loomed over to the Spaghetti Western feel that is extremely common. Unfortunately, it no longer has its own feel as Call of Juarez. It plays like Gun or Red Dead Revolver now, mixed with the ~2008 EA clunky action of Army of Two and Saboteur. All of these are fantastic games, but ultimately makes this game AoT with Cowboys and Indians.
7/10 Good prequel is good.
Peak.
A surprisingly competent shooter with some nice ideas sprinkled in.
surprisingly good written for an old game
its amazing compared to its time - just bare in mind to put ur audio settings to DVD format 16bit 48000hz to run the game - else, it wont!
Have to go into audio settings and change your audio devices' default sound format to DVD quality just so this POS doesnt crash on start. Insane that its been on steam this long and Techland's lazy azz hasnt gone back and fixed this since 2009.
