Key Features:
- A beautiful deadly world where a misstep means death. Sharpen your surviving instinct and learn to turn the environment from foe to ally. In this hopeless world, an ordinary man, Randall Wayne, will reveal himself as a natural born survivor.
- Think. Mindless shooting is never a good idea: there are much more walking corpses than bullets. Be smart and avoid direct confrontations whenever you can.
- A suggestive world of darkness. 3D highly detailed models and environments mixed with 2D sidescroller old school gameplay to create a vintage 2.5D Cinematic Platformer. Unable to escape from the horror of this dying world, Randall Wayne's journey will lead him to Seattle, in a strange search beyond his own survival.
- HD graphics that enhance the immersion and atmosphere of a dead world
- New NIGHTMARE difficulty mode from the 80s. Totally rad!
- Tons of extras, making of videos, unreleased concept art and more!

Spent 15 minutes of my life trying to figure out how to make a jump combo work so I could progress to the next stage of the story. The jumps looked like they were almost impossible for my character to accomplish and just out of his reach every time I attempted them. I decided after the 15 minutes that I would say "Screw it, I doubt it would work but maybe reloading the last checkpoint would change something?"
I reload the dang checkpoint. Lo and behold, Randall can NOW make the jump combo all in one try and progress forward as if it was all part of the game the whole time.
These "bugs" occurred for me what felt like multiple times. This game itself, made me ask myself over and over if I was just suffering from a skill issue and not good enough to enjoy gameplay the way some positive reviews have.
Conclusion: Due to my experience, I would never ever launch this game again, even if it was the last game left available in a real zombie apocalypse.
Deadlight, despite its age (we're talking over ten years here), still holds a special place in my gaming heart: this is one of those games that grabs you and doesn't let go - for a while. I started playing it back in 2013 (sigh, seems like just yesterday), and I managed to finish all the achievements only in 2015. Yep, it took me that long - but hey, this game is worth the wait... or a lot of patience, one could argue!
The mechanics are amazing. A platformer that makes you feel the adrenaline in your veins, with sections that require precision, perfect timing, and a little bit of self-restraint. But don’t worry, the game doesn't leave you high and dry - except when it throws you into a pit with no warning, but hey, that’s part of the charm.
Then, there's the collectible system, which is one of the greatest strengths of the game. And no, it’s not just the typical "collect ten things and move on" scenario. Here, each collectible has a purpose, and the feeling of completion is truly satisfying. If you’re one of those players who loves collecting everything, this is your paradise. The items scattered throughout the world are a joy to find, and the game rewards you with every little achievement.
The art direction is another standout. The 2.5D graphics are simple but effective, creating an atmosphere that truly makes you feel trapped in a post-apocalyptic world. Even if the story didn’t draw you in, the visual environment alone would pull you into a tale of survival and despair.
Now, let’s be real - Deadlight has a few flaws (but what game doesn't). The main one? The difficulty in completing the game 100%. You’ll need more than just skill to grab every achievement - patience and perseverance are key. But hey, at least it’ll keep you busy for a while, right?
If you’re a fan of platformers with a twist and want a game that makes you feel the weight of survival, Deadlight is definitely worth playing. Just remember: don’t wait two years to finish it... but if you do, at least you’ll have plenty of time to reflect on how much you really appreciate what you’re playing.
Overall this game was a slog to get through; thank God it is short.
Game play is clunky and not fun. Many of the challenges have to be executed perfectly in order to pass through. The environments make no sense why poor Randall is restricted to a single plane to side scroll on; many of the obstacles could easily be walked around if he existed in three dimensional space like all the other denizens of the game. It can be difficult to tell what you can interact with and how, in the environment.
The story is not very engaging and somewhat cliche. The ending is quite a let down. Much of the decisions the characters make are not realistic or believable. The voice acting is mostly flat and not engaging.
It was cute how all the achievements are song names tho.
I dislike zombies games. Really. I don't even know why I bought this one, but at the end of the day, it was a good surprise, with atmosphere. Overall a nice platformer (despite zombies).
Lol people really acting like this is the worst game ever made, it's far from it, it is in fact one of the better side-scrollers out there
Terrible controls and lots of boring dialogue that can't be skipped, slow elevators, slow opening doors, etc. Kills the fun.
The worst game I have ever played.
The safe point is no more than a trap used to hunt survivors.
The game is fun due to the side scrolling nature of it. That having been said, there are difficult areas in the game that are better suited for a controller. For some reason this game has no controller support and is fairly difficult to play using a keyboard.
This is just one frustrating game. There are bugs that let you grab on to some point at one time and the next time you do it, you totally miss the same jump. Not a very long game, but will make you want to throw your controller through the screen more times than what it is fun. The last Nightmare Mode is the biggest piece of ****, that I have no other purpose, than stopping you from 100%'ing the game.
Get it if you hate your PC and want to break it.
One-timer.
Pros.:
- Intuitive gameplay.
- Concept and theme.
- Not annoying - fluid.
Cons.:
- Some poorly designed save points.
- Gameplay bugs like inability to proceed several scenes without proper perfect jump performance.
Deadlight is an old school side scrolling game that is both challenging and atmospheric. Those who are simply looking for story with very little in the way of challenge. This game is not for you.
Repetitive and ultimately boring
Total rage-quit bait. The super-annoying zombies have magnetic powers that graft onto you from 6 feet away. Then they somehow end up on top of you after YOU tackle THEM, sticking you under a sudden pile for several moments as you watch your character die, unable to move. It's all of the stereotypical stuff that makes so many people sick of zombie games lightning-quick. Avoid.
a new found level of frustrations
Deadlight - A Struggle Between Style and Substance
“A visually appealing zombie survival game hampered by frustrating mechanics.”
Deadlight attempts to combine stunning visuals with a compelling narrative in a post-apocalyptic world, but it ultimately falls short due to numerous gameplay issues and design flaws.
Scripting Bugs and Control Issues
The game suffers from multiple scripting bugs, affecting object interactions and functionality. Players may find themselves killed during run scenes for making an innocent mistake despite not being hit. Controls often fail to register input, leading to frustrating deaths that feel unfair. Additionally, the character's movement can be inconsistent, causing directional orders to be ignored when engaging in combat.
Lackluster Storytelling
The story feels generic and lacks depth, often failing to maintain consistency. For instance, in the hospital area, a character's bleeding issue is suddenly irrelevant after obtaining medicine. Such
Frustrating Level Design
Level designs can be confusing and require players to guess how to proceed. There are areas where the game's mechanics are poorly explained, leading to trial-and-error gameplay. Enemies often appear from the background, making combat feel cheap and unpredictable. The game also features “clown car” enemies that endlessly spawn in certain locations, undermining the weapon mechanics.
Combat Mechanics and Save System
Combat is plagued by issues where zombies receive priority on attacks, causing frustration as players execute swings only to be interrupted. Checkpoints often force players to replay tedious sections of the game, including all the dialogue and challenges they have already completed.
Final Thoughts
While Deadlight boasts an interesting art style and a crafted world, the combination of clunky controls, frustrating mechanics, and inconsistent design ultimately hinders the experience. It’s a game that had the potential to be a standout title but ends up feeling like a missed opportunity.

Don't waste your time ! The game is a polished looking turd !
-multiple scripting bugs throughout the game, like object interaction or functionality breaking if used a 2nd time / killing you off during run scenes for making the wrong move despite not being hit by anything and being fast enough
-generic story without any depth that doesn't know what it wants to focus on and doesn't try to be consistent with itself (spoiler: hospital area - 1) a guy is bleeding, better get some bandages to stop the bleeding; 2) enter hospital, get medicine, apparently bandages to stop the bleeding no longer relevant; 3) guy takes the medicine - bleeding entirely forgotten / irrelevant; 4) guy states he's feeling better; 5) guy immediately gets health issues and dies in the cutscene right after but without becoming a zombie in the zombie virus apocalypse - like wtf was the writer smoking there)
-controls not taking input at certain times
-zombies have no collision with another, allowing for multi-attacks and -interrupts against your attacks and movement
-constantly level designs in which you have to understand what the goddamn inbred level- and script designers want you to do their very specific way or else you get stuck, which is also true for run scenes during which you have little to no time to actually react and constantly have to guess what's the best move or how the character would interaction with a given object or enemy; but also some maps are designed in absolute wtf ways, being just fully game-ified nonsense
-cheating enemies that walk in from the background where you can't target or hit them and when they're on your height level they instantly hit or hinder you
-the very athlethic and strong character that the player controls can't swim and instantly drowns instead
-the character constantly ignores a direction order if he's facing another direction: You can keep the opposite direction pressed indefinitely and order the character to attack and he'll constantly ignore your directional order until you've made him turn around because giving a directional order with a weapon swing or shot order doesn't count for turning
-crappy autosaves that'll autosave if you go back to a previous point in case you wanted to check you missed nothing, so after having done that you can't just reload from your progressed position but are stuck to all the way back
-crappy level design that doesn't indicate when it'll cut off an area or exit the level, so you pretty much never know whether the next room is just for exploration and scavenging or cuts you off from the rest of the map and makes you miss progress
-clown car enemies that appear endlessly at certain spots, making weapons entirely pointless, which makes me question why we even got multiple weapon choices if the designers just decide the flip the middle finger at all of that wherever they feel like it
-zombies stay passive if you're outside their area (any spot that doesn't directly lead to the ground they move on or is that very area), which is an inconsistent game mechanic, as they're supposed to react to noise but don't in that state - except the spots where the designers made them act different for whatever reasons; contrary to that in areas where they could attack you if you were close enough they'll always try to move to your position, even without any line of sight or noise indicating your presence
-in combat zombies always get priority with their attacks, so even if you already executed a melee swing the zombie will become immune and grab you; a zombie you just hit or knocked away can still instantly grab and hurt you if in melee range
-checkpoints occasionally make you experience all the dialogue, waiting, travel or other hard parts again before getting to the other part that forced a repeat
-the game just doesn't tone down the annoyance if it ~knows~ I'm on a hippity-hoppity shít path they designed and can't proceed - so instead of stopping it with the endless enemy spawns or run scene action and going a little slower so that I get a chance to play the game it makes a mistake no game should ever make: it keeps the player locked in an endless frustration loop of "Oh you failed despite trying your best. You've got to do it again."
I'll revert back to looking up gameplay footage of anything instead of trusting critics again. They sacrificed proper gameplay and actual mechanics for looks and dirty scripts that fake substance by making it look like a quality game with interesting gameplay. As typical of new slob: Low time per money. Through with it in ~8h despite getting stuck plenty and running into scripting issues multiple times. The game is also extremely bloated. For what's in it no more than 800 MB would be necessary. But it runs stable.
It is a great game, I had a couple play throughs I enjoyed it so much.
Prince of Persia with zombies.
I wanted to like this game, but the controls are clunky, the checkpointing is often bad, the writing is hackneyed and in some cases makes no sense, and the voice acting ranges from mediocre to awful. And frankly, I saw the ending coming a mile away.
The music was alright, I guess.
Очень приятная внешне и совсем не сложная адвенчура.
es my bueno
Good job Tequila Works! Really fun side scrolling game, took me 4 hours to complete. Graphics were really good, story-line was decent but the ending could've been better. Controls are sometimes frustrating when jumping off of a wall or jumping straight up, otherwise controls are fine using a controller. I really enjoyed it.
Beneath a sometimes clunky, sometimes genuinely frustrating exterior, lies a well executed game for its time and platform. There is definitely some Xbox 360-era jank in here (especially as a PC port), but for what it's worth, it delivered the type of 2D parkour-centric zombie action I was hoping for, with good art, sound, and a short but thrilling narrative to go along with it. I'd recommend to temper any larger expectations you may have with it, but if you're looking for a short, cheap, unique game that doesn't quite exist anywhere else, this could be a nice option.
Beautiful game. Terrible chunky controls. And why am I running and jumping over spikes when a staircase is right next to me? So dumb.
Look, it's old and probably nobody is looking to buy this now, but I tried to finish it so will give some thoughts. It's not the greatest game but it was a nice chill distraction to start with. However, there are just too many moments in this game where you can't get past without dying over and over until you are lucky enough to get through.
There's no way around zombies in front of you but the game forces you to get past them at times, either using a really limited melee or shooting. Melee is very inconsistent in its effect so you could hit a zombie 5+ times, drain all your stamina, and they will still be standing, or sometimes they'll fall after 2 hits. As you'd expect, there's also not much ammo so sometimes you're in a timed section against a few zombies with almost no option but to take damage and hope you make it because you have no bullets and melee will get you killed.
I got 3 hours in and had to get through a part where you sprint past some environmental danger but whether I made it through was random. You can't go faster, you just have to hope the game's collision doesn't take you out as you run through. After about 10 tries I made it through parts of the sequence once or twice at random and would have to learn the next part of it before dying and doing it again where I would die over and over. I had to give up because it just wasn't fun.
There are better 2D zombie games if you want something fairly simple and engaging. This just needed some more playtesting and polish.
Controls are very unprecise. The 2nd chapter is very unthematic and feel random, and you can guess the main twist 10 mins in the game. Still there is some fun in this short game that you can finish in 3 hrs.
