Saints Row IV: Re-Elected

One of my favorite games and something with good play again value <3

GTA clone that's way more fun, but in a completely ridiculous, parody kind of way. Your character VERY quickly learns some pretty overpowering abilities that make combat pleasantly entertaining rather than particularly challenging (at normal difficulty). There are also lots of fun and creative weapons to experiment with. I first played this when it was relatively new, and found it just as enjoyable to come back to years later.

Some of the humor is definitely cringey and tiresome, and the main character can be rather annoying (such as shouting every time you pick up a data cluster). But if you enjoy open worlds, irreverent humor and seeing your character get stronger, it has quite a lot to offer. Just don't expect a remotely serious story. What you CAN expect is FUN.

Fun game and even more fun with friends but it continues to disconnect every 10-20mins

The game is Saint's Row, so you know it's fun.

But this game has issues.

First, why the hell do the waypoints I set on the map? If I set a waypoint, and I go to the location, and I complete that mission, and I load the map, and I set the waypoint to my next destination -- the game *THEN* decides to REMOVE THE WAYPOINT. and set the waypoint to be WHATEVER THE CURRENT STORY MISSION IS.

Absolutely counter-productive to the whole concept of what a way point is.

To add further frustration and insult to the injury caused by this baffling and ridiculous bug, if I then hit the map button to go back into the map, and I hover the cursor on the map to set a waypoint -- I must set the waypoint TWICE. The first time, NOTHING HAPPENS -- and the game leaves it on the storyline mission entrance that already overwrote my waypoint. The second time, it'll restore the waypoint. This is, naturally, a short-lived fixed -- because the moment I finish the next mission, even if I set the waypoint as soon as possible after the mission ends, the game goes ahead and THROWS MY DECISION AWAY!

Fallout 3, New Vegas, 4, 76 -- DO NOT do this.

GTA 4, 5 -- DO NOT do this.

Bully doesn't do this.

NO other game which has an open-world and 3d-map and waypoint capability -- goes ahead and spits in my face like Saint's Row 4 does.

Also. if you want to do anything online, good luck. The company that made these is gone. There's a 3rd-party 'MySteelport' server you have to run and integrate with DNS before you can achieve the achievements related to sharing customers. You can find it at -- https://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/threads/my-steelport-emulator.17361/ ... the documentation fails to mention that the 'MySteelport' application listens on TCP :443, so ensure that port is open before you attempt to use it (in my case, Visual Studio had already claimed it because of HTTPS reasons, and the 'MySteelPort' unhelpfully barfs a .NET stack trace and dies instead of going, "I can't listen on port 443" like a decently written piece of software would; so even the mod community is rough around the edges).

I played this on the 360 not too long after release and remember liking it.
It sure does hold up over the years, and now that I am a bit older and have played more games, I am understanding a lot more of the jokes than I think I did in the past.

DONT BOTHER BUYING ON STEAM ever since the last update forcing to connect an Epic games account you are much better off getting the game on Epic nothing i did for the steam port made it run more than 15fps but as soon as i installed it from the Epic game store it runs perfectly fine

It was ruined by the latest update that nobody asked for, some cool mods can't unable to play and crashed the game. even without a mods, it's also a random crash anytime. Devs can't fix it since 2023

I get the whole discourse about the purity of Saints Row and how this title kinda changed it forever or buried the series...but I can't say I didn't have fun with this one!

There are things many don't like, me included...like the fact that the map remained the exact same as in 3rd game, with some modifications here & there because of the alien subplot...It is kinda lazy but after playing the 3rd & 4th game back to back, I did not mind it much, because of familiarity.

The game itself has crazy superpowers and feels like Saints Row 3 with mods but...once again, it was a blast, for a lack of a better term! I loved running around and killi g every single alien or gangs and to mess around, getting stronger and stronger. It is worth to grind and upgrade yourself as you become stupidly powerful and I dig that shit.

Sure, I can say that the rest of the games are better in so many ways but I didn't mind the shift for this one as I enjoyed my time and for me, that mattered more to me than the purity of the series.

This is my second time playing through this series of Saints Row. I love this installment! The music is great and gameplay is fun as well. My only complaint is that the game will sometimes crash on me, and bring me back to my desktop screen as well as the graphics not being smooth all the time but it doesn't bother me enough to keep me from enjoying the playthrough.

It was really good game...once...and then the last "upgrade" or should I say Epic made this unplayable.
I really hope that it will be fixed in future.

Thanks to some brilliant update to include Epic Launcher to this Steam game, this 12 year old game is now borderline unplayable because dips below 20 fps on the main menu on a fairly beefy machine that can run any modern game without any issues.
Perhaps Epic is mining crypto in the background to bounce back from paying for all these exclusives and freebies.

Oh, the controller support is also gone as well.

This game was good and everything worked fine but Steam destroyed my save (entire progress) by upgrading it to Reelected version and connecting it to Epic Games. Thanks..

I've only ever dabbled in Saints Row but this one is by far my favorite. I know the powers made everyone upset when this game released but honestly it just reminds me of Prototype & Crackdown and that's all I need: fun movement and a reason to use it.

I like this game and would love to recommend it, but I can't because it is a complete and utter bug-fest. Most of the achievements don't work, a bunch of the activities are buggy and worst of all, I am 96% into the story and I can't finish the Grand Finale because of a bug that has existed for at least 6 years.
This Re-Elected patch has broken 99% of mods and has fixed absolutely nothing.

Nice, but there's only one problem on Linux you can play only in offline mode :/ So I don't have time on account but I have achievements xD

Played this game on Xbox in the past. i would reconmend the game if you love shot-em up and collection based games. definaly snag the game if you like the series or gun games in a whole. some outdated jokes but over all a good addition to a whole

Playing co-op is impossible. Every 10 minutes you'll have random disconnects for no reason at all.

Its like trying passion fruit for the first time.
You either like it, or you just go out and get some mango juice.

As in my previous review I referred to SR4 as non-canon or part of the series, I've recently come back to play How the Saints saved Christmas during the holidays and was pleasantly surprised by the missions, I also came back to play the story mode to realize its actually not a very bad game at all, quite an enjoyable experience full of lots of laughs and good moments, and the super powers are just kickass, the only downsides to the game I'd say is that it can be quite buggy at times. 7/10

There are still a lot of crashing, endless load loops.
You are forced to select the legacy beta if you want to play this game as it was meant to be played.
Crossplay works only if you are on Epic. Both Steam and GOG versions of the game tend to not work in multiplayer.

Tried to log in and play after a couple of years. For some random, reason on my STEAM game, I keep getting an unskippable request for my birth date and my e-mail.

When I payed for this game, it wouldn't force pause and ask for my personal information. I can't refund it now, but I can and will give you a negative review for this violation of privacy and a decade old game.

Saints Row IV is - essentially - a game that shipped in a half-finished state and never received the base level of polish ANY game should have before daring to ask for money, despite also receiving DLCs since the original release.
The premise is fun, and something that works really well for the tone and writing of Saints Row, especially since the surreal SRIII. It purposely jumps the shark and sets up a scifi story that allows the game to reference important moments from all of the previous Saints Row games. It parodies mass effect, it parodies They Live at one point, but most importantly it's (theoretically) a loving parody of Saints Row itself, meant to send off the pre-reboot franchise with a final bang. However, due to the constant jank, bad animations, weird sound design, "novel" gameplay moments that are either barebones, too long, or too short, and a whole plethora of other things, it actually ends up spitting on the grave of Saints Row and epitomizing absolutely every criticism people had of III. If you write out all the special sequences and story beats, it reads like a creative genre-bending love letter, in practice, it feels like playing a lazy C-grade school game coding project. Honestly what drags SRIV even lower is just how good it would be if Volition tried, even a little bit.

Still better than the Saints Row reboot, and that's saying something. Also when you buy it, make sure to revert to the OG version of SRIV, because the Epic Games version is total poopoo.


R.I.P. Volition, you didn't have to be held at gunpoint like that by the other companies that you were working with. Fuck Deep Silver and Embracer Group

This game is amazing, one of my favorites if you want to play this game for any reason just buy it on console.

Epic games ruined this port by adding a bunch of third party stuff that completely breaks the game. I've played this game on ps4/ps5 works perfect there. If you want to get it running on steam you need to switch to legacy. F**K these companies that keep adding third party stuff to games so old that they can't even use any parts of it. Good job breaking another game epic.

I feel like with the release of the reboot this game garnered more of a liking and less hatred. Personally I loved this game when it first released back in 2013 but I understand why the hatred was warranted. I am in the huge majority that SR2 was peak but after that Volition became very obsessed with the question, "How more crazy can we go?" Of course this same question was a death sentence for the franchise.

Is it a good SR game? No but yes. Volition put a lot of love into making this game especially doing so many call backs to the old games. At least they didn't forget where they came from back then. Volition also pulled a 'Conker's Bad Fur Day' in terms of how many pop culture references can they squeeze into one game. Is it a fun game? Absolutely.

I know this feels very like a huge expansion considering its the same map and reused assets. This is because it originally was a DLC for Saint Row 3. Volition however started putting too much time and budget into the project that it eventually morphed into a standalone title. I do wonder how different things would of went if it did turn into a DLC and not Saints Row IV.

If they did intent for the main character to become the president they at least could of created a new map. That being Washington D.C. In the beginning we only see a small glimpse with the Washington Monument. I think they could of did some really fun things with that setting. If they were going absurd to the max they should of just went the full drive and showed us a saintified D.C.

If you plan on playing the game for the love of everything holy please do not play the version Volition left with us that hooks up and automatically launches to Epic Games Store. The game runs like absolute crap. Go to the properties and opt yourself into the beta under sriv_legacy. It'll revert back to the original playable build that negates Epic Games Store and plays from Steam.

Requires some stupid Epic Store app to play. Screw that, buddy.

Literally the best gta-like game to vibe in, the ability to listen to songs out of vehicles carry this game by a fuckton, aside from the other fun and wacky stuff you can do in this game

One of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had, no doubt. I know it’s different from other Saints Row games (except Gat Out Of Hell, of course), but that’s exactly why I ADORE this overpowered maniac-causing-mayhem simulator. It’s just perfect for me. If you’re looking to be OP and literally bully and kick the soul out of everyone, Saints Row 4 is the game you need. Load this baby up and get ready for one hell of an amazing ride.

If you used to like Crackdown on the Xbox 360, you'll enjoy this so much more in my opinion. All the stuff that made Crackdown great, but so much more. Saints Row 2 had the best story & characters, but this one was the most fun and most exciting by a lot.

Can't hold a candle to Saints Row III. Not bad, though. Even more hilarious than before, and a consistent GTA alternative (albeit far less realistic when it comes to physics, gameplay, plot, and so on).

As a stand alone game, its a lot of fun, scratching that itch of screwing around wasting time to kill aliens. As a saints row title, it doesn't live up to the legacy it was forged from. This isn't inherently a bad game, but its not what we should have gotten. Sharing almost the same mechanics from the last game, it plagued by issues burn out, and uninspired design. More over, it uses the same map, characters, and similar gimmicks. They barely tried to up the graphics quality from the last game as it, only adding moving wall textures to simulate a glitchy simulation. It is a good game, but it falls flat on its face when compared to previous entries.

Very fun take on the series, I love the humor...3 and 4 are the best in the series, while SR4 is mostly negative due to DEI and ESG crap...go woke, go broke!

I wanted to give this game a try since it looked fun with super powers and all. But, as of December 2 2024 this game is completely broken (running windows 11) and needs a lot of patch works. First it downloaded 5 Epic online services and updated them again, I waited for 10 minutes after all the updates the game would not launch. I restarted steam and tried launching it again, This time it worked and launched Saints Row 4. But I realized my controller was not working, Then found out this game does not work with steam input enabled. Then I tried playing without steam input. But, I found out that this game froze my pc when I closed the game through in game menu. I had to restart my pc 5 times and all the time it froze EXACTLY when I close the game through in game menu, But it does not happening when stopping it through steam. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO BUY THIS POS EVEN ON 90% SALE.

It was a fun ride. Now its time too put it to rest and move on. 7/10

Saints Row IV is a chaotic, action-packed game that takes everything wild about the series and cranks it up to eleven. As the leader of the Saints, you'll battle through an alien invasion, using superpowers, outrageous weapons, and humor that’s as outrageous as the game itself. While the gameplay can feel repetitive at times, the sheer fun of smashing through enemies and flying around the city with super speed keeps it exciting. The story is absurd and over-the-top, which fans of the series will love, but it may not appeal to everyone.

Played SR 2 & 3, but this is just completely different than the predecessors.
Instead of fightings e.g. gangs, you fight aliens with cosmic powers. You have enough wits to see what this entails for the story, gameplay etc.

It was too boring for me to finish it. Dropped.

Also, why go around the city by car, when you can literally move like superman through the map?

i have Saints row 2 - 4 on steam and they ALL suffer the same problem (but for [probably] different reasons)... they crash (freeze) CONSTANTLY out of nowhere.

i used to love playing these games but at this point the crashes are so often that its just unplayable now.

It is a very comic driven story, with over the top antics. its a great stress free game to kill hours of time in. I have over 1k hours on the console version.

This game's just a worse version of GTA, so I'd recommend playing that instead.

I used to not really like this game but within the past year it has slowly became one of my favourite SR games due to the super powers, weapons and how the story genuinely feels like a send off to the franchise as Volition was quite uncertain that they would ever have another game after the bankruptcy of THQ

Boring. Bad, simplistic and unimaginative gameplay loop. Cars are useless, but that's okay. What is not okay is that once you unlock explosive blast every other superpower is useless, along with guns — you just spam it and everything dies. The simulation feels underwhelming and isn't interesting at all. Overall there is no difference from the third part — I already played that game before, lol. Story had potential, super powers feel really cool but clunky, bad level of control over character in-air and the blast problem dismisses not only other superpowers, but guns. You don't have guns and cars, and their customization is uselss — all that is left to do is to solve meaningless puzzles and just kill shit. Boring. Overall is fun to run around for 5-10 hours, intro was creative and cool, but atfer that the game just don't feel right. The gameplay loop is very simple and repetitive, overall i enjoyed saints row 3 way more, even though this part is way more streamlined and polished in ui and so on.

It feels very different to it's predecessor, but it is really fun and addictive. Basically GTA with super powers.
