Short and sweet. I know the dialogue adds to the game, but I just thought it messed the flow of the game a bit. Pretty basic shooter. Not difficult at all except for the cheap deaths. Great graphics and sound. Definitely a unique game, too. Surely recommended, but I doubt I will ever play it again.
Tall Tales and Quick Draws
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a lean, sharp-shooting return to form for the series—ditching the gritty modern misstep of The Cartel (which we won’t speak of) and bringing the franchise back to what it does best: Old West mayhem, fast-paced gunplay, and gloriously over-the-top storytelling.
You step into the spurred boots of Silas Greaves, a grizzled bounty hunter with a knack for weaving tall tales over whiskey. His narration doesn’t just frame the story—it shapes it. The world around you literally changes as he changes his mind mid-sentence, turning dead ends into ambushes, bandits into lawmen, and tight spots into even tighter ones. It's a clever narrative device that brings a level of dynamism rarely seen in shooters. At times, it even evokes the unpredictable storytelling antics of The Stanley Parable, but with revolvers and saloons instead of office cubicles.
The combat is slick and satisfying, rewarding you for chaining together kills with style, and the skill tree progression lets you tailor your playstyle—whether you prefer dual pistols, precise rifles, or booming shotguns. The cel-shaded visuals give it a comic-book flair that sets it apart from most Western shooters, and the soundtrack punches hard with authentic twang and tension.
The only real drawback? It’s short. Clocking in as the shortest game in the series (not counting The Cartel, again... for obvious reasons), Gunslinger wraps up just as it hits its stride. If it had been the length of Bound in Blood or the original Call of Juarez, this could’ve easily ridden into 9 territory. It’s a quick draw, but it hits the bullseye while it lasts.
Verdict
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a smart, stylish shooter with some of the best narrative creativity seen in a Western-themed game. Its brevity holds it back from true greatness, but what’s here is pure gold—fast, funny, and unforgettable.
8.5/10 – Great
A short but slick Western romp packed with charm, great gunplay, and an unpredictable narrative punch.
gameplay 10\10 story 6\10 storytelling 8\10
It really does feel like that Wild west game that Carnivals used to have with the pellet gun.
Joy to play, even though Im not the best at FPS this game still wound up being fun.
> Barges in
> Tells a story about pursuit of revenge and killings tons of good and bad buys.
> Forgives your lifetime enemy
> Refuses to elaborate further
> Leaves bar
10/10 would sling gun again.
This game is terribly underrated, I have played many games, but this is...
This is an absolute Masterpiece! I never replay my games, but this one..
Definitely I will.

Hey! So frankly speaking I've played already in this game when I was a child. So we can say that call of juarez this is the game of my childhood. I saw this game in one video on youtube and that many people and gamers advised to play in this game. I was really excited. I enjoyed my first try. I love and fond of western movies and wild west theme. So I find western games also really awesome and cool. This game gives you good vibe of wild west, a lot of different Weapon: shotgun, revolvers and many more. Such an outstanding and superb soundtracks and wild west atmosphere. I find the graphic, gameplay and the style of the game really nice. So the game is really challenging also. Bosses, bandits, camps and secrets, traps and tricky things always waiting for you. Everyone should at least to review and play this game. especially if you a big fun of wild west and western theme!
the amount of choices you can make in this game is wild, the story is fun to play , and the gun play is satisfying
(btw did i tell you the main character is a aura farmer )
This game had me smiling for the entirety of its four hour campaign. It's a highly stylized version of the old west compared to RDR2 and the gameplay is very linear in contrast. It embraces the tall tales from this era that features many names from this time period. The gameplay is similar to a COD campaign that is filled with quick time events and slow motion action. I appreciated that the secrets told the true stories behind many of these characters. I don't think the duels add much besides some frustration but I guess it breaks up the standard gameplay.
The story and gameplay is good, and it is not part of the story of the two first games.
Todo mundo deveria experimentar esse jogo. Extremamente divertido e objetivo.
Short game, around 4 hours or less, but every second of it is enjoyable. Didn't expect it to have stuff like character levels and skill trees, but is a nice addition to the gameplay that gives you some amount of customization over your playstyle and unlocks cool new guns. The story, as short as it is, is engaging and has a charming style of narration filled with references to real life events and gunslingers
It was really nice cause of the unique Western Concept that not a lot of games have ( not talking about rdr1/2 )
I enjoyed the graphics being cartoonish and kind off hand made. Gameplay was really nice cause of the shooting and stuff. Enjoyed every single bit of it
Story was rich and really interesting.
GG
i can highly recommend this game, its good fun and you play as an ACTUAL masculine man in this game.
if you love red dead, shooting people, call of duty missions, and borderlands graphics this is the perfect game for you and after 100% it, I can say this is my favourite game at the moment
It's the second best game Techland's ever made, right after Dying Light. Incredibly fun shooting, likeable characters and smooth action. If you're craving some Wild West action without having to watch your horse tripping and shitting every 5 minutes, this one's for you.
one of the best game but it crash the most of the time but still worth it
I could leave my own review, but i'm going to link a that i agree with completely:

There is only one part of this game I do not like. There is a dodge mechanic in this game where if you've built up a certain amount of meter and an enemy catches you offguard, you can press A or D to dodge depending on where the bullet is. This is a cool mechanic. But for some reason after you are successful, you cannot aim for the next like 2 full seconds and I don't get it.
Outside of that, this game is like... the perfect little experience. The story telling, the gun play, the power ups, it's soooooo enjoyable. the 3.00 USD sale price is an absolute friggen steal
Fast-paced scenes and ground-breaking action, with good story and a great setting that makes putting down the game difficult. Beautiful art style, well-crafted dialogue and hours of underrated gunslinging pow pow to pass the time.
Sense of Death is a great game mechanic: added more thrill amidst shrieking bullets and hollering. Duels are well-made, focus-centric and hair-raising. The story format the game was told through kept things quick and fresh, with tons of interesting characters to season the package stew.
Jumped onto a ladder and spun to my death one time, but a singular, glitchy, cartoony demise like that can be overlooked in light of all the entertainment this game has to offer.
9/10. A yeehaw game, and a good one.
The video game equivalent of a drunk cowboy spinning tall tales at a saloon. Congrats, you’ve bought a rootin’-tootin’ shooting gallery where historical accuracy takes a backseat to ‘let’s make every gunfight feel like a Michael Bay director’s cut.’ Enjoy mowing down outlaws with the subtlety of a fireworks show, all while the narrator backtracks his lies like my ex explaining their Tinder history. The duels? Tense! The bullet time? Cheesy! The skill tree? Proof that even Wild West legends need a participation trophy. Also, thanks for making me question if any of this actually happened—turns out ‘based on a true story’ just means ‘we Googled ‘cowboys’ once.’ Still, 10/10 for letting me fan my revolver like a meth-addled raccoon. Yeehaw, I guess?
This part of the series brings us back to the classic western feel that was in Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, the game that started my introduction to the series. Historical figures, revolvers, dynamite. A train robbery, a typical ambush with a broken down wagon, gunfights in banks and saloons - all of this works well to get that nostalgic feeling.
Unfortunately, the game doesn't bring anything new to the genre, but is just a ‘good summer blockbuster’ that can be completed in less than 6 hours. After completing the main storyline, there is no desire to get all the achievements in the game or play its other modes.
I still recommend the game because it's fun and will definitely give you some emotions for your weekend.
Underrated gem that most people should experience at least one. I do have one problem with the game. It's sometimes very hard to see the enemy in the busy backdrop. I cannot tell if they are backdrops or enemies. Also I hate the duels. They don't work for me. Overall, it's a solid 7.5/10
As a Texan, I can confirm this game accurately depicts an average Tuesday afternoon in Texas.
For a 12 year old game, it holds up nicely. The gameplay is satisfying enough to keep you engaged but where the game shines is the story. I didn't expect it to have such an intriguing storytelling, always keeping you on your feet, slowly teasing you about why Silas tells the stories at that specific bar.
Had this in my library for years, finally decided to play it, love it so far!
Bit of an issue running on current hardware, simple fix using the link below:
https://gameplay.tips/guides/call-of-juarez-gunslinger-refusing-to-launch-fix.html
Graphics hold up pretty well, better looking water than a lot of recent games.
Story's good too, the main protagonist does remind me of John Marston from his appearance.
Gameplay's good as well, coming from someone who's not that into FPS games.
A good game overall, probably the third best western game, coming after both Red Dead games.
from someone who mainly plays multiplayer games this is by far one of my top 3 single player games ive ever played its an awesome experience. Also the storytelling and change ups mid mission is really cool
unexpectedly good quality. enjoyed it over all. best fps wild west game i've played. thrilling and challenging, especially in duels.
Get the perk that gives you infinite ammo when you enter bullet time, get the unique double barrel sawed offs, get the dual wield sawed off perk, win the game
- no connection to Juarez
- poor visibility of enemies
- bad AI (running not looking at you shooting you)
- nonexistent sound of guns and direction
- weak shotguns at first
- stupid skills unlock progression
- annoying "You are dead" screen with annoying music
Super fun, but be carefull - it doesn't support modern CPU's with more than 8 (or 10) cores.
criminally underrated game. beautiful visuals for it's time, engaging and funny story, and you can tell they put a lot of love into this one with the artstyle and creative combat for every boss fight. none is like the other - also very satisfying! highly recommend
Awesome gunfights
Good story
Complicated but fun duels
Fun arcade
Skill points which are awesome
Fun achievements
Lots of great small details
Good unique graphics
If you get low fps turn full screen off
It stays in full screen (at least for me) this gives a ton more fps
If you get this on a decent sale this is easily some of the most insane fun you can have. Some people might not be the type to try and play the game over and over again to get better, but if you get this on sale its easily worth the price zero questions asked. its intense, fun, entertaining, and overall a good time. It is literally those arcade shooters but mapped to the pc. Its fantastic.
This is a very fun game and I would recommend it, the gun mechanics feel good and the kills / explosions are really satisfying
I like each of the levels, graphics and the arcade mode gives it some degree of replyability
I highly recommend replaying the Campaign a second Time as the "difficulty" changes really make for a fun new game experience
It took me around 9 hours for all achievements + playing the campaign 2 times
A classic. Love this game. Definitely went under appreciated over the years.
Good game, really. It has really good shooting (Rifle, my beloved) and a timeless art style. The story is told from the POV of an unreliable narrator, and from time to time he will change the story in the middle of a fight, causing changes to actually happen. The only complaint I have is that the duels/standoffs suck. I may just be bad at the game (No wait, I am) but i had to retry most of them like 10 times. 9/10
The dueling mechanics ruin an otherwise fun game. I do not rage quit games typically. In the little time I have played this it has made me rage quit twice.
Gameplay is very solid, but the story falls a little flat at the end. Still an 8/10
Its okay. But incredibly short and frustrating duels. I put this down shortly after it launched, after becoming bored. Redownloaded it recently and wondered why i did very quickly. Unless under $5 dont go near.
I Bought this game because i didn't have the hardware to run Red Dead Redemption 2 back then, however this game has surpassed all my expectations in every way.
The gunplay is very fun, and reasonably well balanced (i say reasonably because i hate using slower guns like the ranger for example) All the post-story stuff is really fulfilling and action packed. New game plus also offers a new 'True West' difficulty, which provides a challenge for less experienced, plus it mainly nerfs dual-wielding. Dual wielding is extremely strong in my experience, since giving away aiming down sights isn't a big problem when you have a crosshair, however the 'True West' difficulty takes all the UI away, which forces the player to rely on sound and aim significantly more.
The main story isn't anything to write home about, nor is it long. However its lenght compliments the game rather well. The story is purposefully written to have plot holes, very little sense, anti-climactic reveals of characters and very generic cowboy dialogue, which is something i found funny on my first playthrough, although it takes away some of the replay value, since you have to listen to the same jokes, which are unskippable outside of cutscenes.
Overall I'd give the story a 6 / 10, and the gameplay a 9 / 10.
Last thing worth mentioning is the duel system, which unlike in RDR and RDR2 doesn't feel like an afterthought, and has a learning curve. Even though it becomes easy after some time, but all things do i suppose.
just finished the game on my first playthrough, i can without a doubt recommend this game to any western fans or general fps enjoyers.
Cheese Rating: 84/100
The campaign of this game is a little short but it is incredibly polished - the voice acting is great, the story is gripping and the gun play/level design is intuitive and fun. There is plenty of replayability in the different modes and difficulties the game has to offer and its exciting trying to beat your friends scores on arcade levels. Definitely worth the price (especially if its on sale)!
Really enjoyed this. Had a few bugs and glitches with audio and visual hitches. It is older though and deserves the play through.
a stunning game, the mc is the goat the ending will most probably get you combat is also very good
overall a very good, must try once
Great game, one of the last good games from Ubisoft. Worth our time even though it's diffrent than the first 2 games of the series.
