Serious Sam 2

Wow.... i had never finished this game when i first played it around release but now after 20 years and a recent play through of most the Serious Sam main games this one is pretty painful. Its a solid shooter but the art direction, story telling, game length, obscenely long encounters, it is a truly exhausting experience.

If it wasnt for my desire to play it through as a sort of mental check mark, I would have put this game down about 6 hours sooner. These serious sam games are really hard too and i can see why I bounced off them when i was younger because i swear to god the amount of combat encounters where the enemies are seemingly endlessly spawning is just not fun. I dropped the diffculty at what i thought was the time near the end of the game and there where still another 10 levels. For some reason its a comedy game now? everything is absurd and borderline offensive designs.

I do like that the guns mostly all feel really solid but did find too many occasions of running out of ammo and getting overwhelmed. Its a pretty solid roster aswell and I personal favourite this time is the plasma gun and the cannonball.

Maybe... MAYBE its just Serious Sam Fatigue and this truncated game wore out my patience. BUT i did buy this for $1.50 so i will not say i didn't get my value for money. Now to never play it again.

Better than I expected

the most fun game in the Serious Sam series.

To call this game buggy would be an understatement. I usually really like Serious Sam, even with their spam of enemies in some parts of the games and stock animations that look pretty bad. The physics in this game makes it so that you can't even go up stairs properly without slowing down immensely or just full on getting pushed back down. Remember when I said I like the games, even with spammed enemies? Not this one. In this game, you often NEED vehicles to beat hordes of bosses that they just place in the way. For example, they introduce this spider mech thing that throws green balls at you, and it seems like you just fight one. After you kill that one (with a required vehicle by the way) over 8 more of them spawn in. Then in the levels after that, they spam these dog creatures for way too long. It made the game unenjoyable for me, even though I really really wanted to play this one.

Perfect, absolutely perfect, everything until the last boss.

A game you can enjoy without thinking too much, or at all. Shoot seemingly endless amounts of enemies while traversing ancient civilizations. What is there not to like.

Lol this is the funniest game in my life that I remember since I was a kid. I don't know why, but as a kid I really disliked it because of the graphics and gameplay, as if it was made by a mobile game developer on drugs and LSD. Nevertheless it's fun, even though the first and second part of the invasion looks so bad, it's still a fun experience. I decided to buy this game just for the collection, to support the developers. I don't approve of piracy and even though I don't like this game, I'll just keep it in my collection as a part of history.

Sam was very serious like it said on the box. Would recommend.

game has shit optimization for being the "best" in the series it some how has not gotten a remake i do think this is a good game even when i haven't played it but god damn atleast i can play the other ones without it freezing on me for no reason at all players should not have to edit the files to play a game the way they like it. 2/10

Definetly not as good as the classic games but it's still prety fun and it's definetly the most unique/creative installment in the franchise

I'm only 3 hours in and I've already lost my sense of sight, hearing and smell.

I got this because it was cheap and I remembered playing the heck out of the demo (that came on a DVD included with a printed magazine... wow, time flies). Anyway, long story short, it's supposed to be light entertainment, hordes of ridiculous enemies come at you, you shoot them, they blow up... What's not to like?!

Well, after about an hour, I came to a point where it was obvious that a ton of enemies were supposed to spawn and... nothing happened. I couldn't go forward. Due to the design of the map, I couldn't go backward either. I googled and it turned out that it was a known bug, triggered by not killing enough enemies in the preceding section. That glitches the engine, because it has a cap on how many villains can be alive at a time and those previous ones were still alive.

Some people said to wait in place, but that didn't help and the only thing left to do is to re-do the section, which I normally hate and also at this point I wonder how many of such occurrences are in the remainder of the game, because this one is known, it's early and in all these years no one cared to patch it.

I saw the option to get a refund, I don't even think I'm going to bother with how much I paid, but I don't recommend others to spend neither time nor money on this game. The menus are clunky, the graphics options are unclear, the bloom/HDR effect is blinding in places, the cut-scenes look like resized (but still not full screen) 144p... and it has progress blocking bugs which the devs never cared to patch.

EDIT: Oh yeah, this bug came after I've already been stuck in a "formation" of trees and rocks in a previous section.

Serious Sam has a simple formula: action goes brrr! If you are getting stuck in random objects (on trivially simple maps), or are left in empty arenas wondering what to do to get the baddies to show up (only to find out that it's a bug and they won't), the action doesn't go brrr and the formula doesn't work. And it's an old game, so it's not getting fixed. Don't bother.

If i knew beforehand how bad it was, i wouldn't have even played it for free.
This thing isn't salvageable with nostalgia, it's just a mess, and doesn't even give you some chuckles or any substancial story to be intrested it, the enemies make no-sense, had to kill (in game) myself multiple times to progress in game because of bugs, and the gameplay loop is just a mindnumbing torture.

I honestly didn't mind the direction this Serious Sam game was going for it kinda has its own charm similar with the Next Encounter. Pretty solid title along side his other games and always come back for nostalgia since I've played this on the OG Xbox.
