Great Atmosphere, good Ai and dialogue and overall good gameplay mechs 10/10
Baby's first RPG sure, but the nostalgia and charm will always be unmatched.
Get the Anniversary Edition.
its a classic, choice based result. Just a great game is all i can say
this game is the shit, if you can't stand the graphics for any reason, go for the anniversary, but stick to this one otherwise.
So many good rpg elements, the good and evil system seemed so intimidating to my young self, but i enjoyed playing this, the demon doors are still scary, and the story is still wonderful. I like it, feels like home.
Still a great experience, and it works well on modern PCs. Think of it as a mini-Skyrim experience. The soundtrack is gorgeous as well.
Crashed 20 minutes in - during the cinematic where maze takes you to the hero's guild, sound kept glitching out etc, save your time and cash and don't buy this broken ass crap or support these's greedy mofo's. This game was great back in the day and was really looking forward to playing it again but aint gonna fork out almost 400 bucks for anniversary, I don't mind the gfx in this one or the missing controller support but broken af I do mind.
A classic. Love Fable franchise, and happy to be able to play this on the PC.
My #1 favorite game. I already had Fable: Anniversary. But i just wanted this as a collection in my library.
I played this game when it was first released in 2004 on the original Xbox. I later bought another copy for the PC, but these were lost a while ago (who has CDs still?) I just decided to buy it again on Steam when I had the itch to play again.
This game is an RPG that doesn't take itself seriously. It's lighthearted and funny, with still enough challenge in places to keep it fun. They made an interesting little world with quite a good lore. The story isn't too deep, but interesting enough to keep you in. The quests are quite varied, they don't feel like it's just another one of those — even the fishing is fun.
While the Anniversary edition has improved graphics (dramatically better) and significant UI improvements, I just couldn't get over the new faces. If you have never played this game, you will probably prefer the Anniversary edition, but if like me you've played the original extensively, it has these charming old style graphics and the faces that you are used to.
I haven't played since 2019 and, before that, on launch in 2005. The same excellent experience two decades later replaying for the third time. A shame the game was not truly complete at launch with some kinks and inaccessible areas and quests. It still remains one of my favourite rpgs.
Do Some Good Deed
Punch Mah Sister
YOU CAN CHOOSE ONLY ONE!
CHOOSE WISELY.........
The classic Xbox rpg. Kicker of chickens for the rest of my life!
greatest game ever made i wont elaborate
It's a very fun game.
I love this game! Just play! It has the best art ever ^~^
Brother Horalis: Origins.
I bought this game a long time ago and have played it multiple times with great satisfaction and no bugs at all. However, I just recently decided to play again and to my dismay, apparently updates have been applied to the game which have introduced a slew of bugs.
- Enemy targeting doesn't work as well as it used to. I can have enemies standing right in front of me and attacking and they still don't highlight for target (using spells). Have to move around and keep pressing shift to get them to highlight.
- Shopkeepers aren't running and opening their shops in the morning.
- In Oakvale the item shopkeeper won't open his shop unless I teleport in after they should be open.
- In Knothole Glade, the item shop never opens at all.
- I chose to follow a guide this time, just to be sure I'm getting everything, and quests that should be available aren't showing up, namely escorting the bandit leader to the headsman block.
- And now the game is crashing to the desktop on me. That never happened before.
There are other minor things as well. It makes the experience less for sure and I'm no longer sure I'd recommend buying the game, because I'm not sure how what I've seen breaks the game further along, even though I used to consider it an absolute excellent game.
I bought this on sale, I havent stopped playing it, this game is hilarious and somewhat serious at the same time, awesome writing, even better gameplay, honestly 10/10 Ive had no issues besides the compatibility issues which can be easily fixed by changing compatibility mode to windows XP or 7, and just make sure you save often, other than that, seriously awesome game
Favorite game of all time. Love the storyline, gameplay and the choices you can make. They map isn't too big either, which I enjoy. Yearly play though for me.
fun minimal and entertaining
Even though Fable 2 is still my favorite game ever the original is still on the top 5 of best games ever and the second best Fable game and all 3 of the main line Fable games are amazing even though 3 is the least best one its still the most sedimential for me cuz i was only 2 when Fable 2 came out they all have a special place in my heart. Fable 2 is the best game of all time right next to Red Dead Redemption 2 and this game is an amazing origin story to its amazing sequal. despite how dated the gameplay feels its still worth a check its also the perfect beginner RPG if you have an xbox 360 right next to your PC go get this game first and beat it then go on your 360 and beat part 2 and 3. 10/10
WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOESNT SUPPORT CONTROLLERS! WHY?!
Big fan of the game back on the OG Xbox and I'd happily recommend that.
This version however, doesn't support controllers at all. That alone kills my recommendation for this version.
Very immersive world. I love the freedom one has to develop the lead character.
Far better than anniversary.
My childhood game, wish i were in Europe back then, when the game released
Go into options and mute the guildmaster. After that, good game.
Marriage Simulator 2004: Extended Edition
or
Aging Simulator 2004: Stressed Edition
the best game of my childhood
They really don't make them like they used to..
Doesn't look like no chicken chaser to me!
Nostalgic <3
I received a quest card where the task is "Buy this game, enter and kick the chicken for 10 minutes, then leave."
great story
better than anniversary
Fable is a solid RPG adventure that holds up well for its age, around 20 or so years as it was originally an x-box title. It worked well for me other than a couple of crashes to desktop and graphically it's fine, better than the early Gothic games which i'm fond of. The character looks a lot like Geralt from Witcher 3 as he gets older, depending I suppose on the hair and beard style you choose
At first I struggled to get into the game until I finished with the early years and was able to do World saves, and more areas of the map were opened. But it's worth getting through that and there are enough side quests and main quests to hold interest. It's also good that you don't get over-encumbered with stuff or have to gather ingredients to make potions as these can just be bought from traders. This means that it's an RPG-lite but there are plenty of more in-depth games out on the PC market so that's fine. It's just an enjoyable gaming experience.
oldie but goodie, coming of age, make your own way fantasy adventure
gg
10/10
It is older game so some mechanics are not perfect, but I wish we had more games like this, giving players a lot of freedom how they want to go around it. Starting with appearance that includes attractiveness and scariness factor, you can play good or evil and a top of that you can basically marry anyone you like or murder whoever you do not. Your choices got impact on world, side quests, minigames and exploration rewards are present too.
If you are deciding between anniversary or this version. I personally do not like the remastered version, some areas are not perfect in The Lost Chapters and menu is not modern, but it just overall looks and feels much better.
Played this game since I was a kid, and I loved the entire story, all of the forks in the roads, and definitely the challenges as well. HIGHLY recommend this game, even if it is over 15 years old lol
yeah, it's cool
ive played this so many times no game will ever compare in the way this can when it comes to entertainment and quality
fuck epic insane incredible amazing superb terrific classic awesome spectacular fantastic cool wonderful fun refreshing vibrant FUN
This version makes me realize anniversary never was required.
i abuse my family fart on them then laugh in there face :)
been playing this game for years, highly reccomend if u haven't played it,a must play if your into rpgs
Fable is many things and not enough at the same time. The remnants of the tumultuous ambition from the talented Blue Box Studios is apparent from the very beginning of the game, while Peter Molyneux's trail of broken promises similarly is hard to ignore. On its own merits, Fable is a predominantly solid RPG with an impressive global AI system that goes the extra length in aiding player immersion thanks to its innovative implementation of life-simulation elements. While combat is generally responsive and fluid, targeting enemies is a different story. You'll often become irritated by unintentional infighting within your party, as well as occasionally commit murder on innocent NPCs by total accident. At the end of the day, Fable still holds up as one of the more memorable and innovative Western RPGs of the early 2000s.

Overall: 8.25/10
Fable is the pumpkin pie of Fantasy RPG's. You may not love it, but if you like it, you will want more than one slice, the craving is painful, an item relegated to being seasonal so you wont get it often, and the mix is delicate and easily ruined.
That absolutely tortured analogy is a bad way of saying that RPG's like this dont exist anymore, but there is an appetite for them. People act like game companies are only recently "falling off" but Lionhead was a real loss, and all the wrong lessons were learned from their destruction. We live in an era of mostly garbage with some bright spots here and there, but you wont find anything like Fable.
Be sad.
