The OG, the great, the standard

This game is super fun and super charming. The controls can be a bit wacky, and the enemy design/combat is pretty dated and can be frustrating (ambushed by hobbes, infinitely stunlocked by minions/trolls) but if you can look past those things then there's a really good game in here.

Anyone who has ever played Fable knows that this is game was at the top back in 2007. Currently, it is a sought after gem and is worth anytime put into it. There is always going to be a place in my heart for this game.

This is a very memorable game in my life and was one of the first games I could actually feel deeply into the creators intentions. The game has an incredible storyline with unique skill system that shapes your entire character, including your appearance. This is something I had never seen before in a game, and could see how my actions were affecting the public's perception of my character. Fable is what any RPG game should strive to achieve and will always be part of my childhood.

Fable was one of the very first games I ever played on the OG-Xbox and helped shape my love of RPG’s, and over 20 years later I still find myself humming the Oakvale theme and wishing I could buy some chocolate for only fwee gold coins.

I love fable I would highly recommend it even though it's an old game. I used to play on the Xbox and I'm glad it's available on Steam also the load screens seem to be a lot faster than they were on the Xbox which is definitely a plus. Definitely worth it whether it's your first time playing or if you've played 100 times. The plot is interesting, your actions affect the world and people's perception of you, there's magic and plenty of creatures to fight, many areas to explore and things to find, what's not to love?

game is pretty fun but the bugs are game-breaking. crashes way too often its worse than fallout NV, audio is pretty bad you can barely hear the dialogue at times because of the game world noises, the pause menu is very laggy, and there's a lot of other bugs but this is only the surface. it's fun for nostalgia and playing it for a bit but if you are trying to finish it's not going to be very fun, so i highly suggest buying the anniversary edition instead.

I was one of the first people to buy and play Fable WAY back at launch on ye olde Xbox original. And I loved it so much, I bought The Lost Chapters version of it, even though it wasn't really that much different. It's a small, charming fantasy game that's quite enjoyable to fool around in from time to time, and that sadly didn't reach it's full potential even with 2 sequels. When I saw it on Steam, I snapped it right up, excited to play an old classic again.

But I never got to do that. Normally I'd review the game and discuss technical issues as an aside, but the developer shut down a decade ago and the port is a disaster, so no, we're not playing nice. This port is AWFUL. The camera constantly sways and bounces to the point that people routinely report motion sickness trying to play it. Yet the camera doesn't follow you when you actually want it to, like, when you're trying to quickly run around, as it instead locks in place and you have to play Twister with your fingers to manually move it while holding the run button while controlling your direction. Several options in the menus don't even work. This game, an Xbox exclusive, doesn't have native controller support. But that's okay, Steam support is here to save you! Yeah, that barely works either; using a bow is borked and you generally have to resort to using the mouse to navigate menus and confirm things anyway. And don't try changing the mapping because then suddenly it won't even recognize some buttons. So, I tried a few programs to map the keyboard to controller instead; somehow, I don't know how, this not only corrupted the game, but didn't even work, as now I had buttons doing multiple things (like running caused me to lock on to enemies, but another button was still locking on as I told it to). The audio is also trash; in-game movies (and a few other random dialogues) are not affected by volume controls, so RIP headphone users, and the balancing is also changing constantly; some sounds are loud, some are quiet, dialogue audio randomly switches between ears, etc. Some people even report crashes from the audio. So after re-installing the game, I decide, fine, I'm going to make it through the motion sickness, cope with the messy controls, turn the volume down real low (with subtitles on), and still try to enjoy the game. And I can't. Once I get through the tutorial and out into the world, it constantly either freezes or CTD, and I can't find a solution.

But don't worry, you can play the game, WITH native controller support, by purchasing the Anniversary Edition, wherein Microsoft has upscaled all 3 classic Fable titles and packaged them together for a modest $35. What's that? It's not all 3 games, it's JUST the first game? A game that, despite my love for it, was infamous for false promises and lackluster delivery, and thus barely worth $35 when it was NEW? A game whose original devs were closed down nearly a decade ago? And despite just being a new coat of paint and a few random odds and ends, I don't even get a discount for owning this unplayable mess of a version?

I adore this game, but it's just too old at this point. I can't hear half of the dialog because other game sounds absolutely drown out their voices. I can't make choices because the dialog choices aren't displayed. Such a shame. And the other remake of this that's 11 years old is still $35? No good.

Still have the disc to this game. Absolutely love it. The choice to be a hero or a villain, your looks will change with your morality. The story is a nice one too.
It is an old game, so don't expect the best graphics. The voice acting could be better too, but personally it doesn't bother me. I'm just having fun.

A great humorous game. Very fun to play! The visuals are still great despite being old and this version is cheaper than the anniversary edition, so, as someone who is newly introduced to Fable, I'm happy and satisfied for choosing this over the latter.

Played this ~20 years ago and it's still amazing! (and somehow still works great, even on ultra-wide)

I played Fable TLC many years go. I still have my multiple cds original version. Now, 2025, the game is cheap and it installed and worked fine with no other setup required. The video setup worked fine for 1080p and looks very nice for an old game. It runs fine, no crashes.

I'm running on Windows 10, despite the store page not mentioning it as supported.

This game is so fun to play and works great on my modern machine - 10/10

This is the best version of Fable.
While it lacks controller support, and 60fps menus, It more than makes up for it with Art style, atmosphere, and consistent art direction, and of course nostalgia!

Final Verdict
I played it a long time back and still replay it to relive the memories. Definitely one of the classics and a must-play!

I love this game, played it a bunch on the original xbox. Sadly it doesn't work at all now. Crashes in the intro cutscenes, haven't been able to fix it after following a guide.

Sadly can't recommend this gem due to this.

UPDATE: After following a guide to fix crashes and finding nothing my friend found something about needing to install it on the same drive as you OS. I did this and it has worked flawlessly for a few hours.

amazing game one of the best all time!

Classic game. Surprisingly enough, it is not compatible with controllers (wasn't this a XBOX game in the first place?)
Still, the voice acting is quite good, the music is nice, the story is okay.
The way you can change your appearance, abilities, and the way NPCs look at you by doing good or bad deeds was kind of a big deal back in the day, and is still enjoyable today.

One of my favourite games growing up, still today tons of fun but for new players I would recommend the Anniversary edition for the availability but if you can play the original as imo its still King.
