Wolfenstein: The New Order

Still a decent shooter. Face paced, solid gameplay.
The double shotgun feature is absolute mayhem of joy.
Still a fun game, quite short, but if it's on a sale, worth your while.

Super fun campaign, the story is really good and the weapons are even cooler.

I've played thru this game multiple times, and the game holds up really well. I love the game's plot, soundtrack and also fighting nazi's as a one man army. The only thing that sucks is the game's engine didn't hold up very well, and has problems on AMD systems. It also can't go over 60fps without causing bugs

Wolfenstein: The New Order was a masterstroke of a reboot. It took me unlocking all achievements and playing through the story multiple times with the Old Blood's Context to get me to truly appreciate it. Those that just went through the campaign, and didn't play old blood beforehand are missing out. The game was difficult to get running on windows, but not nearly as difficult with both AMD and NVIDIA cards to run Old Blood on modern windows. InI tweaks are still required, but a lot less of them to get a stable framerate. Difficulty of the game was just right for me, as I played it on "Bring 'em on" and UBER. The gunplay, the enemy and weapon design, the voice acting and story; all are equally a genius interpretation of what a Wolfenstein Game of the 21st century should be. Everything since has been meh to didn't buy because it was a dumpster fire kind of game. This game is nothing like the sequels, it has everything it needs to be perfect and then some.

A diffuicult but enjoyable experince, and in the words of another bethesda game "War, war never changes". This game was complete and total war. I dont remember if wolfenstein is connected to Doom or Fallout but I know it connects to one of them, probably doom because of what both games used to be like. I did find the part where you kinda played the classic version of the game within a 3-D space to be very cool and unique. This game was defienlty an experince and it made me cry.

A fantastic resurgence of the grandfather of all FPS games. Who knew killing pixelated nazis in would be just as fun now as it was in 1992

Good characters, with an over the top plot, and easily hateable, but interesting villains. I appreciate fictional nazis for being easy to hate, it makes you want total nazi destruction. type TND for total nazi destruction!!!!

This is an excellent story-based single player FPS. I can't believe I missed this series back when it came out. It surprised me how good it is. It's kind of a mix between old school and new school FPS, it has the over the top action sequences of something like call of duty, but it's also got health packs and armor pickups. The action in the game is just overall very fun and enjoyable. There's a decent selection of weapons and all of them feel impactful, especially the unique laser weapon you can use not only for combat but also for exploration. There's not a huge amount of exploration, it's a linear game, but there's some small advantage to getting in secret rooms with some more resources that are always rewarding a needed. You have to manage your ammo and resources (health, armor) even on the normal mode so its not mindless. You can even choose to go for stealth or go for guns blazing in many of the scenarios, both being satisfying.

The gunplay was extremely satisfying as expected, however I really was surprised that the story is actually really good, and the characters interesting. I didn't expect to be as invested in the story, it was actually great.

The only negatives I had about the game were a few of the later levels, were a bit underwhelming. But overall a very underrated, excellent single player action FPS game.

Game starts off amazingly. Very solid gunfighting, enemy A.I. is pretty good, the soundtrack is competent, and the environments are nice to look at.

Unfortunately, it starts getting quite repetitive after a while. The game does try to add some variety, but you'll end up fighting the same guys over and over, outside of the occasional 'guy but bigger and better armored'. The autosave system is also really bad at times, especially if you're playing on higher difficulties, making you replay an entire section for no reason, which is typical of these older games. All the boss fights also feel unnecessary, but that's a minor complaint.

Last but not least, for some reason they decided to make the protagonist whisper every single one of his lines, which is compounded by the fact that they also tried to be make him 'poetic', for whatever reason. Every other line is elongated needlessly, with remarks about something in the scenery, or his childhood, or whatever else. It gets very annoying after a while.

Still a pretty good FPS. Just do yourself a favor and don't play on anything above normal.

Circa 2014, I didn't understand why the studio put so much effort into telling us that Nazis are bad. Of course they're bad, I just want to shoot them.

Circa 2025, I was wrong; I have gained further appreciation into the 'Nazis are bad mmmk?' parts.

I liked it. I played it on easy just for the story mode, which caused it to be kinda short. If u take the time to read the readables etc then u will discover some nice and twisted stories.

I did not expect this game to have a good story.
I did not expect it to have humorous moments.
I did not expect i would cry at some points.
I did not expect an interactive progression system.
I did expect an arcade-y shooter.

This is like Wolfenstein: The Old Blood but in steroids, new levels, new weapons, new characters and new mechanics that add some replay value to the game but still the same fun, easy to learn game-play. The story is more developed than the previous title, I don't like that much the use of cinematic cut-scenes. Even tough the story is kinda basic I really enjoyed this title. I'd definitely recommend getting it alongside with The Old Blood.

Amazing game! Its old, but still manages to keep up with graphics. I cant even explain how invested i got into the story-line!

Despite its age the game is actually amazing. I think its probably the best one in the wolfenstein series, although i wish it was longer, only about 12 hours of gameplay to finish the story.

In real world where social media owning scumbags throw up Nazi salutes, play this fantastic game where you can give them the good ol' G.I. Robot treatment.

I'm writing this one while listening to the ending theme of a gem that is Wolfenstein: The New Order. Once you finish the game, you'll listen to it too as the credits roll and I reckon it will hit you right in the feels 🥲

For the sake of preserving a story element I spoiler tagged the above ^ I will just add that those lines make a whole lot of sense while listening to said song. The team really knew what they were doing when they cooked this one.

I said it earlier and I'll say it again: Wolfenstein: The New Order is an absolute gem

While it is quite a trope and it plays like a full on action movie filled with plot armor, it is quite a beautiful story actually. The voice acting is good and I was fully immersed in the plot - which quite surprised me! I was going in expecting just mindless shooting mayhem but ended up getting a whole lot more than that. The gameplay was engaging all the way through and the graphics still hold really well to this day.

Finally, I absolutely do recommend you give it a chance - you won't regret it. And the best part? The story continues with Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus so make sure to jump into that one afterwards!

Several levels in this game has pathing bugs.
If you like to die over and over again due to unpolished work, buy it.

Just finished getting all achievements. Now that I have a PC, I'm enjoying games that i used to play on Xbox.

What if the Nazi war machine had prevailed in WWII? We explore a version of this alternate history in Wolfenstein: The New Order, a reboot of the iconic Wolfenstein franchise. We take on the role of BJ Blazkowicz, a soldier who has been in a coma for many years and awakens to find that the world has sunken into an oppressive and dystopian state. He embarks on a journey to resist this regime and meets several companions along the way. The character development is deep and meaningful, and Blazkowicz' character becomes more fleshed out and humanized as a result. The narrative is captivating and grim for the most part and also fantastical in terms of the locations we visit. It has balanced pacing with plenty of over the top action sequences. It explores themes of resistance, humanity, tyranny, amongst others. The gunplay is fast and responsive, with a large number of weapons, many of which can be dual-wielded. We can also approach missions with stealth tactics as we attempt to reach our objectives. The Nazi's have developed all sorts of advanced weaponry, including mechanized soldiers and dogs that can really ramp up the challenge. Visually the game has a gritty and realistic art style. The graphics are still impressive despite their age. The environments and character models are well detailed, and the use of lighting and shadows is very effective. New Order does a lot of things right and despite now being over 10 years old, ushered in a new era for the series, bringing Wolfenstein back to the forefront of the FPS genre.

Reminded me of the first time I played dishonored. A little linear in some regards, but great game.

I really fun shooter that takes place in a universe where the good guys won WW2.
You play as a terrorist causing chaos in a perfect world where you come across some zany characters, like Set Roth, a member of a secret jewish global order that operates in the shadows behind the scenes (a bit on the nose for my tastes but it's all good fun).
I love a good anti hero story and the gameplay is smooth yet packs a helluva punch, some of the best FPS action I've experienced.
Definitely recommend checking this one out.

THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

Awesome game, good start to the series. Stealth feels good. You hardly, if at all, feel like there is TOO many enemies or they're all too armored.

100% can say you can just play this then the second game, the prequel game "The Old Blood" is not worth it and will raise more questions about what in the world is going on then the game that's supposed to take place after it will answer. You'll run into things that aren't mentioned again and the game play is mediocre at best.

this game is incredibly fun, i never liked first person shooters until i played this and doom, it doesnt matter, even if you dont like first person shooters this game is a masterpiece

Great game! Forgot to review earlier. It says I have 46 minutes, but that's because Steam doesn't count offline hours, and I have completed the game. At the time I had no access to internet unless it was by hotspot, and I didn't have enough data to keep it running the whole time.

So great if you like good music by Mick Gordon, fun gameplay, an over-the-top action movie story, and it's fully functional offline.

The New Order (TNO) is a solid first entry in the new Wolfenstein saga with good gunplay and decent story. The only advice I'd give is to know that you're going to have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit through this particular game since its an insane action movie in game form, thereby operating on insane action movie logic. The plot is fun and bombastic, but its characters are shallow with barely perceptible story arcs.

The most invested I have gotten in a story, in characters. It's truly incredible.

I wish I could give this game a "mixed" rating. I don't find it good, nor bad. It's just about okay.

The core of the game is definitely not bad. The combat system is entertaining. Blasting nazis while dual-wielding auto shotguns is awesome. Huge problem is level design. All levels are very linear and mostly consist of narrow corridors interjected with rooms where enemies are. Sure the props change, but the feel remains exactly the same. Even when you go to the Moon. Pacing of the game is off, largely thanks to missions at the base where you just do fetch quests. Seriously, why is this in the game? I am also not a fan of crappy scripted events that are supposed to move the story forward. In terms of level design, pacing, enemy variaty and overall feel of the game, The New Order is completely outshined by the much older Return to Castle Wolfenstein and could learn a lot from it.

The stealth system is not great, not terrible. You don't get to do any cool takedowns like in Far Cry games, but coming up with a neat approach to an area and executing it without being detected can still be satisfying. The commander mechanic is an interesting spin on a more traditional alarm system. What definitely deserves criticism here is the brain-dead AI, which will literally walk over dead bodies of their comrades and not get alerted in any way.

The story is utterly terrible with more plot holes than plot itself, but I am willing to overlook that since Wolfenstein should be all about shooting, stabbing and blowing shit up - an old school action shooter. Really, just don't think about the story. Absolutely nothing in it makes sense when you decide to turn your brain on. So just don't.

The boss fights are, once again, nothing special and are just okay. Except the London Monitor, that one is just awful and too easy. It really needs a way to actually attack the player (inside the tunnels) - maybe release drones or something.

Another issue is how non-responsive the environment is. For instance, where are rescue services or some kind of reinforcements when you attack key nazi buildings and infrastructure. They have jets, helicopters and all kinds of crazy vehicles, yet noone ever shows up. You can stroll around and take forever even in what are supposed to be time critical missions. RtCW had paratroopers descending on your position at one point and time critical missions would actually fail if you took too long.

I've also encountered quite a few bugs. Nothing game breaking, but certainly annoying. Overall I wouldn't recommend this game unless it is on a big sale. Go play RtCW instead. It still holds up to this day if you don't care about graphics too much.

I just finished playing through the game, it's a very enjoyable single player experience. The story is obviously very dark given the subject matter, but there are some genuinely funny moments sprinkled throughout to help lighten the mood. The gun play is very fun as well, and does not try to shame you for not taking the stealth route, although it is usually an option if you'd like. Overall, definitely recommend. I'm looking forward to playing the next one.

Great game, recommend playing the trilogy for sure as that's what I'm working on now. Graphics are good, as expected from a title from 2014, combat is quick and easy to learn on steam deck. Not a giant struggle and you're able to change difficulty if it's to hard for you.

The perfect first part of a reboot. The gun play feels great, the story is ok but nothing more. An alternate past like Man in the High Castle has always been exciting to me, so it works without a strong story. 9.5/10

Fantastic game the most balanced hardest difficulty I have ever played. If you love shooters you're doing yourself a disservice not playing this one.

My only complaint is the weird almost gravity gun that cuts stuff it's a little janky.

Can't believe I slept on this for so long, hella gruesome at points where it made me gag a little but the gameplay and graphics is really great for a 10+ year old game.

Strengths:
Great level design.
Looks amazing. Facial animations, guns, the technology, everything.
Great enemy introduction and variety.
Great villains. Gives you reason to hate them other than them being Nazis.
Runs well.
Good campaign length.
Good story and world building. The smallest and the biggest set pieces are all amazing.
Great gunplay. Feels a lot like Half Life where you can tank a lot and you just wanna rip and tear through people.

Weaknesses:
Perk system feels bad. Requires a lot of grinding for certain perks but you don't really need them anyways.
Stealth system isn't great. Game is focused mostly on runnin' and gunnin'.
Certain enemies sometimes feel too tanky for how much you throw at em.
Collectibles system is terrible without using online guides.
Dual wielding feels unnecessary and janky.
Monologues by the protagonist sometimes feel way too edgy and overly serious.

Would recommend for full price but it's also often on sale for 5 USD as well.

so much sick action. at the start of the game youre already in a plane, jumping into others, shooting other planes down, shooting cannons at giant robots, killing nazis, etc. SO good

-liked how we get introduced to different characters and that we get to know their stories, liked the emotional part and the emphasis on humanity and how our guy Blazko always speaks his mind and the exploration of trauma.
