This Crysis from year 2008 is still masterpiece and better then new games from 2025

"Crysis Warhead" might not be as cool as the original trilogy, but it's a great follow-up to Psycho's story. I really don't know why Crytek didn't remaster this one alongside the trilogy... but graphics and gameplay still hold up pretty well!
More Crysis action - sick.
Honestly don't find it looking too much worse than the remaster, but really lagged in the finale scene. Some of the older games don't benefit from modern multicore GPUs, IDK.
Played on Linux no prob
A fun enough game in the crisis game, but more of a DLC to the first than a true standalone.
Still, its super fun and expecially the last level is just awsome.
You should however buy it at a sale, its otherwise a bit pricy.
Around 1-3 hours of content for the campaign.
where's the remaster?
Better than the original Crysis.
Too easy but still a good game
Great story to complement the story of Crysis 1, amazing graphics (even today). The game play is great, with destructible environments and what you come to expect out of Crysis. The shooting mechanics are great and the plot is also great.
I overall recommend this game, especially to those who really want to experience the Crysis experience.
Crysis Warhead is a standalone expansion for Crysis and I highly recommended Crysis. Crysis Warhead plays similar to Crysis, but its story is less interesting and only half as long.
Beautifully done singleplayer campaign out of Crytek. Very well done. Worth every dollar.
gud
Faster, better, old controls.
Aim accurate, heavy, not like the first one.
How to start on Win11: It. Just. Will. Run.
not bad
cant wait for another stupid game that script kills you in one hit, otherwise its fine but normal crysis was better anyway
Its short playtime is not affecting the game's quality. The game is still fun with solid gameplay and plot. I glad that finally i know about what is happening in Crysis in Psycho's perspective
It's more Crysis, which is a good thing.
This review is for both Crysis 1 and Warhead; when I just write Crysis I am referring to both of them in general.
They don’t make em like this anymore. Crysis is a time capsule of a pivotal moment in gaming—the HD generation had just hit and suddenly games could be a whole lot more than polygons from a PS2, both visually and in terms of gameplay. Crytek wanted to push that to the max and make Crysis effectively a next-gen game; while it wound up getting ported to PS360, it was widely considered a game that could not run on the current gen for the first few years after release. Crysis is what an Xbox 720 game was supposed to look and play like.
Crysis exists partly as a tech demo for the Cryengine. Crytek wanted to be like Epic and develop the go-to engine for everybody else to pay to use, except CryEngine never got anywhere close to the adoption of Unreal. Crysis 1 was the centerpiece of their marketing for the engine, a landmark FPS that was meant to make developers interested in the engine it ran on. This lead to some interesting game design choices that have aged surprisingly well.
Playing with physics? Move over Zelda, Crysis was rolling logs down hills while Link was in 480p. Every palm tree can be destroyed, and it breaks apart right where you shoot it using actual physics simulation, and then you can go pick up the chunk of palm tree you shot off and carry it around and throw it at guys. Games don’t do this anymore.
I find I prefer Crysis 1 to Warhead just slightly, as I think the larger levels are actually kind of cool. There’s something interesting the margins of Crysis, the liminal spaces in some parts of the game that are tucked away in some part of a giant level. That said, Warhead is quite arguably the better FPS, with tighter level design and more fun toys to play with.
A few tips for Crysis noobs:
- Jump shortly after sprinting in speed mode to conserve your momentum in the air
- One punch in strength mode always kills humans
- Always deactivate cloak before shooting
- Go prone inside any bush and the enemy can’t see you
- Learn the subtleties of the nanosuit (using speed mode reloads faster, strength mode decreases weapon sway and recoil)
- Learn to switch modes quickly, you should be able to switch from cloak to strength, jump on top of a building, then cloak again in quick succession
- Run and jump at an enemy in speed mode then switch to strength mid-air and kill them with a punch
- The SCAR is much better than the FY-71, but ammo is much more scarce. Use wisely. Either gun will kill with a headshot.
- Use and abuse quicksave snd quickload. Experiment with approaching a situation different ways.
Good:
-Art design
-Graphics (especially for it being an older game)
-Environment
-Set pieces
-Sale price
Meh:
-Gameplay
-Story
-Controls
Bad:
-Constant crashing on a very modern system
-Bullet spongy enemies (even on lower difficulties)
-Weird checkpoint system
-Base price
This game definitely had the potential to be one of my favorite games but it just wasn't unfortunately.
Play it with the C1-Launcher on Github, and you'll have a blast.
GOOD LUCK GETTING THIS GAME TO RUN FOR MORE THAN 15 MINUTES ATTA TIME WITHOUT CRASHING!!! EVEN WITH THE PATCHES AND FIXES!!! it crashes whenever it feels like. Super annoying. Just dont even play this. what a shame. Whys thsi game get so much hate and like it dont exist. Phycho is the best character IMO this is a sick game, idk why they didnt incluide this with the remasters. Whatta effing JOKE!!!! PISS ME THE EFF OFF!!!! After about 2 hours of troubleshooting and 3 hours of playing off and on off and on i couldnt take it anymore i just uninstalled it.
This is gonna be dead simple: more of first Crysis, No more, no Less: a war shooting game with a sprinkle of sci fi.
So, if you liked the first installment, you'll like Warheard.
The game was fine, but couldn't get more than 10 minutes (and sometimes less than 1) before crash to desktop. Tried every fix I could find online.
Gr8 game
Easily the best Crysis game from the story, to the action, and of course Psycho himself. too bad after this the game went in a pretty lame direction for 2 & 3, hopefully Crysis 4 will come back to its roots!
Definitely an improvement over the original. i enjoyed the new guns and vehicles fills out some of the story a decent short expansion.
Alright "expansion". Pretty short, but if you liked Crysis 1, you'll like Warhead
This game had a really dumb story, so-bad-it's-good-tier. It's still Crysis though, so the environments and the gameplay are top notch.
A lot of people call this game better than Crysis 1; i only can compare it with the remaster, and i'd absolutely say it is not. I'd still recommend it to anyone who enjoys the other Crysis games.
Please add sex with Big Tiddy Goth Chicks
I beat Crysis in 5h and Warhead in 4h. It's not standalone DLC - it's a sequel.
"I'm British you muppet"
Crysis: Die Hard Edition
Warhead is a standalone expansion for Crysis 1 that follows the events of the first game but this time you play as Psycho (The British Dude, Basically Jason Statham). You run around the island as the aliens begin their attack all over the place with every weapon you could possibly need including the all new Dual SMG's. Guess we finally developed the ability for men to multi-task in this iteration.
Story is ...passable because I enjoyed the gameplay.
More of an action shooter then the first with a few moments where it makes sense to stealth but its faster paced and quite a bit shorter at only 3-4 hours as compared to Crysis's 8-9 hours.
Enjoyable and obviously... still looks great. Though in this one the shading does seem to be a little flatter and the textures not as crisp. Feels a little rushed out.
7.4/10
- Must Play alongside Crysis 1
Definitely on of the best games ever. The best one of the Crysis games.
Quite a buggy game, if it weren't for that, I would have finished it faster. Watching cutscenes 5 times or simply dying from nothing at the end of the mission, flying into the sky or falling through the ground, in general, bugs at your choice
And now seriously, I didn't even know that this game was in the Crysis series. Of course, I had a blast, despite the above. Psycho is revealed to us from the other side, just like O'Neill. And the plot too, although there are questions about what happened to this container and what the f*ck happened next?
In short, despite the fact that this is old crap, I advise you to play it, it will definitely not be a minus, the only complaint I have about Сrytek is where is the remake of this crap???
I fucking LOVE Crysis, I worship video game oil rums (barrels) thanks to Crysis. I love barrel killing, the HL2 gravity gun is a fucking kids toy. (The aliens suck tho)
2 minute TLDR:
Warhead is a story spin-off focusing on Sykes instead of Nomad, so you are following along with the main Crysis story. Best to play through the vanilla campaign first to get the most out of the story elements dropped here. A couple of new guns too from memory, basically more of the same - worth going through if you haven't tried it before.
Game Review: Crysis Warhead
Score: 2/10 - A "Psycho" Excuse for an Action Game with a Heavy Hand of Ideology
In Crysis Warhead, players take on the role of “Psycho” Sgt. Michael Sykes, who’s not only the team’s loose cannon but also, it seems, a foot soldier for some pretty heavy-handed ideological messaging. Under the guise of military tactics and high-stakes action, the game feels like a veiled lesson in American interventionism, with Sgt. Sykes delivering liberal ideology in the form of endless explosions, firefights, and enough collateral damage to fuel any global critic's argument.
The story sends you to the lush islands of North Korea, but don't be fooled by the beautiful graphics—the real aim is an American military footprint as wide as possible. Psycho’s “mission” plays out like an exaggerated blueprint for interventionism. Under the guise of saving the world, he’s bulldozing through enemy lines, spreading the typical rhetoric of “freedom” and “democracy,” which somehow justifies wiping out entire squads of enemies and leaving locals to deal with the fallout.
Psycho himself is a relentless dispenser of justice with no regard for the people or places left in his wake. His mission takes priority over everything, underscoring the ideology that collateral damage and interference are justifiable if the end goal aligns with supposed American interests. The game’s heavy emphasis on technological superiority with high-powered nanosuits and advanced weaponry only reinforces the idea that technological might equates to moral right.
Ironically, while Crysis Warhead seems like a simple shooter, its narrative and gameplay often feel like thinly veiled attempts to glamorize interventionism and forcefully instill liberal ideals. Psycho might be a memorable character for his one-liners and intense combat skills, but his role as a “liberator” quickly morphs into that of an unchecked force—making this action-packed installment feel more like a political commentary on foreign intervention and the unchecked power of American-style “liberation.”
Ultimately, Crysis Warhead may offer impressive graphics and explosive action, but beneath that, it’s hard to ignore the underlying narrative that equates destructive intervention with heroism. For a game that could have focused on true military strategy and character depth, it’s disappointing to see such a one-sided portrayal of heroism, leaving players to question whether “Psycho” is really the one who’s gone off the deep end—or if the game itself has.
I enjoyed it.
If you like crisis then you'll like this. A standard expansion pack-esque experience. What you liked but more of it.
It's nice to see story events from a different point of view but the final boss fight is a bit disappointing and underwhelming. I'd still recommend this game for the 4 hours it lasts.
Warhead is straightforward. The future versions try to get too fancy with an already solid concept. Just enjoy creeping through the jungle on a mission!
I decided to play this one first to get a quick taste of the franchise before deciding whether I wanna get into it.
Well it was pretty epic, but you'll be quite handicapped if you don't know the base game's mechanics beforehand. What makes these games stand out is the on the go weapon customization (with attachments), the different ammo types, and the suit abilities that together make for a gameplay depth exceptional for this genre.
The one bad thing I can say about it is how unoptimized it is. You see, on the Steam Deck, you can mostly play it on 1080 high settings between 35-75 FPS (docked) but in intense moments (especially the finale) in dips below 30 even on medium settings.
good game
Before DLC plague our games, this is how an expansion was meant to be. As always Crysis Warhead was epic, brutal and interesting.
I
This game is great I like Playing it. i have played Since it came out in 2008
n
Crysis Warhead is pretty much an expansion pack for Crysis 1. In this game, you get new vehicles, areas, and weapons. In this game, you play as Psycho the British soldier you see wear the Nanosuit in the first game. In this one, the game is shorter which means you can beat it in under 4 hours depending on the difficulty. The game story is focused on his perspective against the NVA and the aliens rather than Nomadd. There were times when I died but paying attention to the instructions on how the controls work helped me out. I didn't even know you could go prone in this game which helped me out in combat. For weapons you get the SMG you can use for your sidearm which can be op when used up close and the last weapon which you get for the last section of the game. For vehicles, you get a hovercraft and a North Korean Military vehicle that can take a lot of hits with a turret. The nanosuit abilities are the same as the last game but one I didn't know you could use is strength for reducing the recoil of your gun which is pretty good when you have an automatic weapon with a scope to shoot an enemy from far away. I did have a few problems where I tried to get the game to run and I had to accept some things to get the game running. For the gameplay and cutscene, I'd get a black screen for a few seconds while the gameplay and cutscene are going on then it gets back to normal. I don't remember that happening when I played this game for the first time a few years ago. Overall minus the problems I had with the game, I still had a fun time with it. I still recommend playing this game If you have the time and money. I give this game a 9 out of 10 since my experience with the first game helped me out with this one. I hope my review makes you think twice about getting the game. Have a good day.
GET ON SALE - only 4-5 hours for $20.00

Tl;dr - Narrative, Warhead bites off more than it can chew, but from a gameplay standpoint it's definitely fun.
Had to buy this for a workaround to get Crysis itself working. This one just works, but it is short. It also has an actually interesting protagonist. Honestly if you just want to experience Crysis today, just get this.
