In some alternate universe where justice exists: Cold Fear belongs to Capcom, and the game gets a second life, receiving a remake on par with Resident Evil: completely redesigned, with modern graphics, cinematic direction, polished gameplay, and the bone-chilling atmosphere it always deserved. Alas, not in this life.
"better late than never..."
I forgot Ubisoft used to publish such interesting games. Cold Fear is one of these gems of the PS2 Survival Horror era, with an incredible setting and comically bad writing.
As a Coast Guard veteran you respond to a distress signal sent from a Russian whaler. The situation quickly devolves into chaos when after fighting a few pirates you stumble upon something much more sinister and dangerous.
The setting of the game is pretty cool and unique – first you explore a mutant-infested whaler ship, later a big drilling station in the middle of the ocean. It is constantly storming and raining, which adds to the chaotic atmosphere of feeling stranded on a metal can in the middle of the elements. The outside is really inhospitable, but then each dark room under the deck can hide true nightmares. There are some really terrifying moments when exploring the lower deck.
The story and writing however, is just really bad as you could probably expect from a game akin to RE. The protagonist quickly grows attached to the Russian girl on the ship with whom he has like, one interaction. Now the entire game is about saving her and keeping her safe because that’s the right thing to do. Tom is from the Coast Guard, supposed to rescue people, and even has a little side story of not being able to save his girl in the past I guess, but there is no relationship development whatsoever, even if he sees her in a similar light to his lost lover.
The dialogues and their deliveries are... as you would expect from a 2005 survival horror game. There are some cool moments, like when Tom refuses to download the virus data and tells the CIA agent to f.uck off, but it doesn’t really feel significant. The mad scientist becomes a final boss monster himself because it's a trope at this point.
The pirates of the ship seem comedically dumb – there are multiple notes in the game about someone complaining that their men just shoot random valves and pipes on the ship for fun. It’s supposed to be a tutorial for you, that there are many elements of the environment you can use for combat, but the enemies come off as troglodytes because of that.
Overall, it is a story full of mutated monsters, explosions and cheesy one-liners. Inoffensive, just don’t look into it too much.
The game kind of plays like OG Resident Evil 4. There is the laser sight, but you can actually move while aiming. Actually, the camera outside of aiming seems inferior, it’s better to just constantly aim and look around that way.
The important thing is to do headshots to destroy the enemies’ heads. This way they won’t get up or risk getting infected with the parasites. You can also preemptively shoot the bodies on the floor to make sure they won’t jump you. Pretty standard zombie game strats. The parasites and other mutants have also other abilities, one is only hurt when shot at his bulbous hand, the other can turn invisible.
There are several guns found in the game, but you’ll probably end up using the AK or submachine gun for the most part. Shotgun is really good, but they removed its laser sight to nerf it I guess? The experimental speargun has it though... Shooting is fine, but there is not a lot of resource management. Plenty of ammo to get by if you loot corpses, health kits also happen pretty often, unless higher difficulties change something.
Tom has resistance instead of stamina – and that’s because it’s not only about running but also being able to grab to edges when we slip on the surface deck. When we get grabbed it also depletes before health.
The game has some interesting mechanics, like being able to counterattack grabs or cling to the railings on the ship making your aim steadier while in the middle of the rainstorm (let’s forget that he holds the AK like a pistol at that moment). Also, when you melee opponents they stagger making them easier to headshot.
The environment is pretty interactive, besides the standard exploding barrels there are junction boxes that can electrocute zombies in the water and valves that I mentioned before. The monsters are generally, cool but the final boss is kind of ass. In the first phase you can’t hurt him, you just shoot him to get his attention away from Miss Kremlin. Then you pray to the gods he somehow misses his charge at you. Second phase you’re supposed to get grabbed three times to counterattack him, but it can just be that he’ll pummel you around the arena.
Not much for exploring in this game, you can find ammo, health, maybe some notes that are way too long to read through, but outside of that not much in terms of replayability, unless you count higher difficulties.
The game is aged, but it does have this old PS2 vibe. There are some cool effects like blood on the screen when you blow somebody’s head off close range – and water droplets when outside in the rain. However, I also really like monster designs. Even common zombies sometimes have like half of the torso removed and just ribs, or a skeletal hand. Each game has to have its own facehugger too I guess. The main boss, although sucks balls, looks really cool, especially when teased in the infested deck, sent shivers down me timbers. Well, the infested deck itself was just a great horror aesthetic, covered in this biohazardous goo or flesh.
The main menu makes you think that this is one of those games that are just constantly loud for some reason. It ain’t the case however, when the game is quiet it really helps the horror, and when it isn’t then it just isn’t anything to write home, I guess. Aged, low quality sound effects, but overall fitting pretty well. Also, the credits song is Marilyn F.ucking Manson and it’s just such a cool send off.
It’s a fine, albeit short survival horror. When I’ll finally start my shelf with old horror classics it will have its own well-deserved place. It’s not perfect, not the best, but my liege, the vibes are ON.
Thanks DethTech.
Cold Fear me lembra a adolescência.
Lembro perfeitamente de alugar esse game e achar ele muito interessante na época
Uma mistura de RE4 com os clássicos de terror da época.
Decidi zerar e ver qual é a do game.
Durante o jogo, que é curto por sinal, a ambientação é excelente e diferente. Nos vemos dentro do navio baleeiro e em plataformas pretoliferas.
Ele mistura ação com o terror. Quanto se propõe ao terror, o jogo é ótimo. Me deu alguns sustos.
really fun the thing clone i wish it got a second game since it deserved it
A pretty decent project, though unfortunately not very well preserved over the years.
The story is quite simple and predictable.
Combat mechanics aren’t anything groundbreaking,
but using the weapons is fun and offers some variety.
There are different types of enemies that might force you to find the right approach, instead of just shooting wildly with whatever you have.
It’s a very short game, but could make for a nice evening (or two) adventure.
mediocre game combat is trash, story with no real ending and that final boss is awful 4/10 there are so many better games in the ps2 era
Cold Fear is a cool game from my childhood, you could say it is RE4 inspired with its over the shoulder aiming, but I actually like this camera a lot more than it surprisingly, cause while not aiming, you also get those classic cinematic shots like in old RE or SH games. The game was made by Darkworks (they made Alone in the Dark 4 prior), but apparently sold awfully, I have to guess it was Ubisoft's marketing failure, cause the game is surprisingly good. Unfortunately the studio only made a prototype for a game in 2011 and were closed shortly after. Normally I don't write these history lessons, but for some god forsaken reason the studio didn't have a wikipedia page.
Cold Fear might not be breaking new grounds, instead taking elements from the genre that worked, different monster types, the aforementioned 2 well known camera styles, RE style backtracking level design, some light puzzle here and there, and a good arsenal of weapons useful for different enemies. You start off with seemingly regular zombies, and just like zombie games taught you - it is definitely worth to shoot their head, so they don't get back up, later you get little The Thing crawlers that can walk on walls and posses non-decapitated corpses, little hives that spawn them which you need to use explosives on, a ceilling crawling dog with glowing eyes, an invisible guy and a charger from L4D2, but you need to aim for his giant stump of a limb, as his weakpoint is not his head. Your arsenal are different conventional ammunition weapons, but you also get a flamethrower, grenade launcher (which can dispatch enemies quickly at the cost of burning their otherwise lootable body) and lastly a speargun, which has limited ammo and can be used as a lure, a blessing in the right swarm scenario. Of course there are some explosive barrels, gas valves and exposed electrical boxes you can shoot instead of the enemy, which similar to flamethrower and grenades, will dispatch enemies quickly at the cost of loot. The more unique mechanics are a counterable grab, so instead of the usual QTE to not die, like in RE4, you can mash your buttons before you run out of stamina and later hp bars, and get a free insta kill/massive damage counter hit, normally you won't be using it often if you have decent aim, BUT slight spoiler ahead you're actually gonna need it for the last boss. An even more unique mechanic is the sway and crushing waves, if you're outside in the raging storm, you have to account for environmental hazards, the waves can crush you against walls for big damage, or sweep you off the map, the sway may also move suspended cargo around, causing big damage to anyone in its path, it unfortunately is not AS big of a deal as game's marketing might make you believe, but it is a great additional flavor to the game. Overall it is a decent package, and a shame considering the abysmal sales, I suppose I can sleep well I was one of the hipsters who supported it back in the day with a physical copy.
The less crucial aspects are audiovisual, it is a little blander than I might've liked, the environments are the biggest highlight in places, I say places cause while the setting of a whaler ship and an oil rig are great, and provide some really cool atmospheric areas, they also had to squeeze in the usual labs, cryo chambers etc. in there, due to the game's story. While graphically the game holds up surprisingly well for a PS2 title, there has been no patching for modern systems from ubisoft, and as such the game is locked to lower aspect ratio and resolution, and it hates alt tabbing with a passion (it breaks textures completely and disables cursor lock for exclusive full screen, so have fun clicking on your second monitor mid-game). I would love it to get a slight remaster treatment, cause you really don't have to change much, the game runs smooth as butter as long as you keep playing it.
The audio also didn't seem to have major issues, I think the bonus concept art videos in the main menu have a bgm that is somehow unaffected by the volume sliders, but the actual game seemed fine from start to end, the enemies have distinct sounds for the most part, and the guns all sound great, the VA is ok, even if writing is not the best thing.
Speaking of, the story wasn't the focus, there is plenty of cliches, like being infected while unconcious, experiments gone wrong because one of the leaders wanted power from controlling the dangerous biohazard mutation, a big bad bossfight at the end with the mutated mastermind, self sacrificing protag, who wants to save a woman at all cost, because he has a tragic backstory involving his previous partner, and a good guy on comms being more of a bad guy than we thought by the end.
The story also has 2 threads left completely unresolved (or I missed it somehow?), where our protag managed to escape the facility, despite still being infected at the end, and the fact that they seemingly don't have allies that would help them with the cure once they leave, since the comms good guy turns out to be bad. I suppose those were supposed to be left for a potential sequel?
Either way, at the price they're selling this game at you don't have to wait for any sales, it is a really good time for an incredibly low price, the only problem I have is the fact it all goes to ubisoft, as Darkworks no longer exists, but what can you do.
Resident Evil on a boat (I know how original) But this seems like a remake of sorts of Resident Evil Gaiden. Outside of the combat... it's pretty similar. Checkpoint random save popups, infection and trouble on a boat.... and hammy acting... even if that game was for Gameboy Color. Everything about this game is ham and I love it. About on par with Resident Evil 4 and if you are crazy for Resident Evil clones and just want something enjoyable that won't be painful to play, be sure to pick this up. This NEEDS to come to the current gen consoles. Ubisoft published something pretty cool and it's not like ANY of their other games and I wish they focused more on this kinda stuff. I threw money on this and found a surprisingly entertaining and engaging game.
Everything I like in my survival horror! Definitely recommended!
1000 times better than Resident Evil 4. I wish someone would make a Cold Fear: Remake.
In general i enjoyed playing Cold Fear , is a decent RE clone .
I liked the fact that the game takes place in the middle of the ocean ( ship/platform) , and that you can move while in ready weapon mode .
Annoying was the lack of any kind of a map and inventory .
The final boss was also a bit dissapointing.
Finished this game a long long time ago (razor1911), will play it again. Hardcore survival flirting with Lovecraft, whats not to like?
Cold Fear is a 2005 horror game released on Playstation 2 and PC. You play on a ship in the middle of the ocean and fight zombies, it's not easy actually, it's a challenging game, save is limited to checkpoints. The story is immersive, the atmosphere is fantastic, sounds are basic no WWISE or FMOD engines those provide unique sound effects every time to avoid repetition, the sounds in this game are simply static files. Given this is a classic game that aged very well I will give it 9/10.
has quickly become one of my favourite games
Finally getting a chance to play it after seeing it in magazines long ago. I did not expect the game to be what it is since
all I knew about it is that you go shoot the zambamboos on a giant boat.
There is more to it than that. It was scary when it came out and survival horror was the craze and new, but
this feels charming of a horror game with it's tight controls, easy to follow through story, good amount of weapons,
good amount of enemies.
I however feel lost at times as I am going through the game during this review, and the checkpoint save system makes
the important places you need to go a slog as you did from some BS, but hey, games this old would call it gameplay.
Also a little spoiler, you get a banger of a soundtrack from the early 21st century. A good reward in my book.
There is a new game+ mode, which give you extreme difficulty mode if you play through the game the first time. There is a mod out there you can download to unlock it if you wish to finish the game only once.
I recommend this game if you feel like you want you want to spend $10's or $2 when it goes on sale.
The game itself is great, but do yourself a favour and play the PS2 version via emulator. This port is horrible on PC and the game looks better via emulation/fullscreen support automatically.
Recommended for Resident Evil fans, u should like it :D
No
good game
Needed On PS5 SO H A R D
I fight the zombies and interesting squid type creatures
"Mom can you buy me Resident Evil 4?"
Mom: We have Resident Evil 4 at home.
Resident Evil 4 at home:
I did not have fun with this game almost at all. To be quite frank, it's probably the worst experience I have ever had with a video game.
And it is therefore very hard for me to recommend, there are a few caveats with this however. Because it does genuinely have some redeeming qualities. Which i will get into.
It's a Resident Evil clone, that's not exactly hard to see. The enemies are literally a zombie virus. And they are called exocels.
The main gameplay loop is literally identical to Resident Evil. You have guns to shoot the enemies. You find ammo laying around and have to manage your ammo so that you don't run out, by being precise or by using another weapon.
If you like Resident Evil and games like it i could give this game a recommendation but
then and only then would I recommend this game.
I would score the game like this.
Story & Characters - 0/10
This is probably the blandest story I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. It was a hard choice if I wanted to give it a 5/10 for how painfully generic and cliched it is, or a 0/10 for how much I hated it.
I opted for a 0/10. It is genuinely the most uninteresting story I have ever seen. And i watched the Siberia movie that Keanu Reeves played in. Even that was a 1/10 for me.
Cold Fear however, manages to be the only story I have ever experienced that I have given a 0/10. Why is this?
Well let me start. The characters are nonsensically bland, and have no depth or development at all. Not just that, but scenes of the characters even existing almost doesn't exist, i would guess about a few minutes of screentime for the characters that are not the protagonist, and the protagonist manages to be even less interesting than all of the other ones.
The main antagonist only appears for a brief scene and then the final boss fight, and he is neither interesting nor is the fight any fun.
Anna is the only character you are supposed to have some attachment to. But she neither has any depth nor is interesting.
Gameplay, Controls & Mechanics - 2.5/10
Being a Ps2 era game, there is bound to be some jank, the game is actually 20 years old in just a few weeks as I'm writing this review.
Though yes the controls are pretty bad I actually tend to be fine with this. It did not drag down the experience that bad since I tolerate jank and bad controls. But with all of the other flaws i've given it a pretty low score.
The way the camera works is that it is not a free cam but rather locked in like many other games of this era. At the time it was probably not that bad, but it annoyed me thoroughly many times.
For example, there was a scene where you run away from a wall of flowing water. The thing about this is that the camera changes three times in this scene. And the W key is the same way, so forward, regardless of camera. So in the two places of the scene you are looking towards the water. I walked towards it and died. I only died this way two times but I hated it. The combat is a little bit janky as well. Certain enemies are very annoying to deal with because of the way the camera acts. I played on Easy so it wasn't hard, but it still managed to be very annoying.
Horror - 5.5/10
The game had genuine scenes of horror that scared me. Which is hard to do mind you. Not tooting my own horn just saying it. But I did genuinely get a bit scared sometimes. And there were a bunch of nicely crafted horror scenes and setpieces. Such as enemies spawning behind cover, a scene in the early game with a crawling exocel and the underwater segment.
This, and the next point was the two only redeeming parts of the experience however, and they were far and few between.
Progression - 8/10
This is the strongest part of the game for me. Just like in Resident Evil and similar games you progressively unlock more powerful weapons. I thoroughly enjoy progression curves like this. I was genuinely interested in what weapons I would find throughout the game. And I was always happy to get an upgrade.
When I got the shotgun I let out an audible sigh of relief. And when I got the flamethrower I was more than happy that I could finally burn the enemies to a crisp in my frustration for the rest of the game.
Personal Enjoyment - 0.5/10
I absolutely hated this game. All together the playthrough took me 6.1 Hours but that was over the course of a month. From Jan 20 - Feb 25. And that was because I absolutely dreaded playing it.
I managed to finish though.
Overall - 2.5/10
Personal bias aside, it probably is not that terrible. But it's bad, really bad in my opinion. As I said, if you do not like Resident Evil, then avoid this game. It's not a good introduction to Resident Evil either, because you could just do that with a Resident Evil game.
I do not recommend this game at all! 👎
Probably the only game I know that was designed to make you seasick and absolutely succeeds at it.
its alright
Another bullshit PS2 Ubisoft stinker. Avoid this shit at all costs.
This console thing is just not for me, it should have stayed on ps2, though RE fans might like it or something I dont know. The atmosphere, enemies, guns aren´t that interesting and the fixed camera together with bad controls are just irritating. Soundtrack? Mostly forgetable ambient/tension.
The Lonely Island - I'm On A Boat
One thing I realized with this game, Ubisoft was always focused on copying and lowest common denominator for mass appeal and profits. This game is proof of that. Now does it make it a bad game? Not exactly.
It takes the, lets call it re4 formula and blends it with the og re. With that you have a semi re4 clone which has the camera weave into TPS for shooting, but remains fixed for exploring. Unlike re4 enemies dont have hit reaction to limbs but destroying the head remains the meta to effectively stop them. Ammo is plentiful. The saves aren't an issue since the game automatically decides when it should save, and the timing is pretty healthy I'd say.
It simplifies some aspects of re, making it accessible to "wider" audiences while also has more language support for disabilities, unlike re4 which only had eng dub. While this isn't a bad thing it also cannot compete against a focused product.
So why the thumbs up? Well if you're one for nostalgia this game delivers. I would say based on audio and mechanics its still better than indies released today.
What a pleasant find. As long as I've been playing survivor horror, I hadn't heard about this one until I read about it on some top 10 list. Sure, it is an older game with some flaws...the lack of a quick turnaround action as well as no map being the top issues...but it was still a fun experience. The ship sway being built into the game is something I don'r really remember in any other title. It had a few genuine scares and a real creepy atmosphere. If you are a fan of Resident Evil, the Thing or Alien then you'll probably like this (not to mention the $2 price I snagged it for). Also - ran great on on Steam Deck.
The entire gameplay is a simple mix of walking, aiming, action and a few moments of horror and jumpscares. It's perfect if you're looking for something nostalgic.
Don't expect a deep story. Just have a little fun.
Old game but very fun to play and it's pretty fast to get through if you have enough time to sit down for a few hours and know what your doing.
Cold Fear is a decent survival horror experience. I found the first half of the game to be really cool as your exploring the ship as its swaying in a raging storm which leads to some nice enviromental hazards as you need to avoid crashing waves knocking you overboard and other obstacles. The second half on the oil rig is fun but less memorable then the former part of the game.
The camera uses a panning perspective from an angle for exploration and a over shoulder perspective for combat. Gunplay is quite satisfying and it's fun to blow off enemies heads.
The story is entertaining and is a good excuse for the gameplay. It took me just over 4 hours on a first playthrough and I can say I had a very fun time. Best £0.85 I ever spent!
Good story, and good gameplay. Finaly after long years I was abble to finish the game!
love it
Game won't run
I can't play
May be Win11
PLease fix
This game absolutely sucks. I really don't understand how this is a cult classic. The only people that like this game are redditors that want to seem unique and different. The two main issues with this game are the crap camera angles and lack of a minimap. These two things make the game extremely tedious and frustrating to play. The lack of a minimap means that I got lost ALL THE TIME and unnecessarily retraced my steps. It was incredibly annoying. The camera also has a mind of its own and whenever you aim it can sometimes aim your character in the wrong direction. Keep in mind this game relies on jumpscares and tight hallways with enemies, so it is important that the camera and aiming abilities be good. But they aren't and this game is just not fun because of it.
The game also has crap default resolutions because it is so g0ddamn old and the only way to fix it is install a custom .exe. Yeah no thanks I don't care enough about this game to deal with that crap. Basically there is a reason this game was forgotten by time. Its because it absolutely sucks ass and deserves to rot eternally in the dirt. Fvck this crap game.
A nice clone of Resident Evil and The Thing. Fast, simple to play, quick to learn. Story is duller than could be. Controls are horrible though.
!!! The game has LOTS of issues and requires fiddling with game files to have it run properly, for most people !!!
I got this game since I remember playing it back when it came out and it's a good memory. I use to enjoy this kind of game a lot and the setting being a boat with the constant rocking in a storm was pretty neat. So I wanted to give it another try, knowing memories are often best left in the past.
However, the game could still be fun if it wasn't for its technical aspects aging quite poorly:
-If you change the resolution in game, once you quit, it won't ever launch again unless you delete the res file in the game folder. You need to edit the game executable itself to change the resolution.
-Then there are issues with multi monitor setups, the mouse cursor isn't constrained to the game. This could be solved by plugging a controller (even when using a mouse/keyboard) or using a 3rd party software to lock the cursor. Or sometimes it's not an issue until you alt-tab.
-This is the next issue, there are basically no save. You have auto save after completing a mission but only if you go through a door to start the next mission. Otherwise the save screen doesn't trigger. So if you need to take a break, you have to alt-tab.
-Overall the controls are outdated and clunky. It plays like an old school PS game, which is obviously how it should be seen and played. With a controller and as a piece of gaming history. As a modern experience, it's not really enjoyable especially with a keyboard and mouse. Doable but not enjoyable, you're constantly taken out of the game by handling issues.
The story is interesting in a simple but creative setup at times, the voices and sounds are good and there are cutscenes and everything. Playing with an upscaled resolution and by modding the executable to get a decent base resolution as well makes the experience more modern without losing its old school touch. I played this all blocky 640x480 back then but a better resolution makes it look how I remember it. The magic of memories.
It's a pretty decent experience if you're able to deal with the issues and don't mind being thrown back 15+ years with the mechanics.
This game could do with an update/remake as it would still be a decent product, most than a lot of recent "make all the money" games that get released nowadays.
Therefore it's a thumbs up for the bones of the game but I really don't recommend anyone getting this one. There is really no reason besides a collection, which makes little sense with a virtual platform (this said the game has no drm).
Diet RE4/Metal Gear on the High Seas. It;s pretty alright
honestly feels like playin resident evil 4 but on a boat with russians that dunno whats goin on, monsters and fuckin zombies in the middle of the fuckin ocean like imagine if the boat segment from resident evil revelations was more interesting and not segmented and was a whole game this would be it. I also wanna point out that the main characters name is close to being chris hansen but his first name isnt chris LOL
Cold Fear is a nearly 20 year old game, so some imperfections like the camera are to be expected. But other mechanics like not having a manual save menu option/save room or not having an accessible map are just a little frustrating. The game’s story is most like the first Resident Evil movie in that it makes sense the more you willfully turn your brain off. Unless Cold Fear is something you are nostalgic for, I can’t imagine this being something anyone needs to play in 2024.
mouse flies off the screen, tabs itself out and then locks up
6/10
Nostalgia? - Yes
Good Mechanics/Story/Characters? - No
We have Resident Evil 4 at home.
This game is an classic, i remember playing it on the original Xbox when I was a kid. I remember it giving me some motion sickness with the sway of the boat, but always was very fond of this game, it had some amazing graphics and was very spooky. I remember finishing it, though it took many hours to finish. I straight up recommend playing this game its worth it even today. there is a spoiler free review below.
Performance:
I surprisingly have no major technical issues getting the game to run, and everything has run smoothly.
Only issues I have hit, is occasionally the aim down sights on the AK47 get stuck in shooting mode, Basically dumping the entire clip into nothing. it has happened quite a few times, which is annoying especially if its a game about saving your ammo.
Pros:
- Story
- Excellent atmosphere
- Excellent VFX and sound design.
- Different and interesting enemies to battle with
- Level design and set locations are fantastic, the game will make great use of using existing spaces you have explored by keeping it fresh. It makes good use of repeating spaces while progressing the story.
- Cool range of weapons
Cons:
The flow of the game hits a lot of frustrating hitches,
- There is no way point system or map, expect being lost or confused for a good 2.5 hrs of your typical game. Now you should argue its apart of the design, however if you miss a single thing you would loop and loop around and waste a lot of time which can become irritating. You will do this a lot.
- Its sometimes too digital dark... Once again, you can argue that's the point its a survival horror. But there are areas of the game you can barely see a thing, even if I pumped the monitors to brightest it can be. which in combination the dull similar colour palette its very easy to miss doors or points of interest or even understand the layout of a room, which I cant even see which way you are facing, which orientation is all thrown out. Your eyes start to hurt squinting and eventually give you a headache. (I remember this problem as a kid too).
- Saving the game: the game periodically saves the game at a random door you might pass through. It does not allow the player to choose the save the game or cancel a save action when a save prompt is displayed. So you simply have no idea when you can save or when you would eventually be able to save. its pretty annoying, it sort of throws it at you. and in the beginning of the game, if you die you have to replay the entire thing including cut scenes. It becomes old especially if you die due to clunky controls.
- Player flow, this game will give you access to areas you will discover later in the game in out of order. it allows you to walk around and check things out. however when you get stuck. there is no clear instruction to get you back on the right path. so you become very confused and end up spending a lot of time running around scanning walls in hopes you find something new. Once again yes its an old game, but it constantly trips itself over its self breaking the flow of the game-play. I want to be immersed not confused 70% of the time.
Now it does look there are more complaints than pros, but I do really recommend this game. Its good. it has its moments, and the above things were what kept coming up during gameplay that annoyed me but overall for its age and its price its a no brainer. alot of love has been put into this game I coudn't recommend it more than enough.
Probably a cool game. I'll never know though because of numerous technical issues just getting it to run.
Buy at your own risk, and if you do make sure you test it out before the refund window expires.
