Very spooky! One you should def play with friends and would be better and easier with more than one. It is a fin little game given the price. Overall a fun one for a here and there kind of game play, but not one I would go and play daily.
I no longer wish to help Anna or the rest of the cast. I want to sell my soul to the real devil, the U.S. Military and call in an air strike on the house.
1. Concept and Gameplay: 8/10
Devour is a cooperative first-person horror game where players take on the roles of individuals trying to exorcise an evil entity. The gameplay revolves around cooperation, where players must complete specific objectives while avoiding the demon that relentlessly hunts them. Each session feels different thanks to procedurally generated objectives and the dark, tense atmosphere that accompanies each mission.
The gameplay is intense and stressful, with players having to gather items (like dolls, offerings, occult ingredients, etc.) while being constantly pursued by the creature. The cooperative aspect is crucial, as working together allows players to divide tasks and stay alive longer. Survival elements, such as managing health and light, add an extra layer to the gameplay.
One of Devour's strengths is the importance of communication and coordination. If a player gets separated or makes a mistake, it can lead to the death of everyone else. The horror is amplified by the fact that players cannot defend themselves effectively against the creature, which always seems one step ahead, increasing the tension.
2. Atmosphere and Immersion: 9/10
The atmosphere in Devour is one of its standout features. The environments are dark, claustrophobic, and mysterious, creating constant tension. The various levels, whether it’s an abandoned house or a dark temple, are beautifully designed to amplify the horror and discomfort. The sound design plays a key role in immersion: eerie noises, creaking floors, distant voices, and demonic laughter all contribute to an environment that keeps players on edge.
The creature itself is terrifying and well-designed, and it always feels like it's just around the corner, creating a sense of constant fear. Every encounter with the creature is a shock, but its approach is always gradual, maintaining a tense suspense throughout the game. The use of visual effects like screen distortion, light loss, and environmental changes further increases the discomfort.
3. Multiplayer and Cooperation: 9/10
As a cooperative game, Devour truly shines when played with friends. Cooperation is essential to success, as the objectives are often complex and require the involvement of multiple players to be completed. For example, certain tasks require players to split up to collect items or activate mechanisms, but splitting up also creates vulnerability.
The social aspect of the game is crucial. Communication is key in Devour as players must constantly help each other, warn of dangers, and coordinate actions. The game also introduces a component of "betrayal" where difficult choices have to be made: for example, one player may become the creature's target and must be sacrificed to save the team, or worse, the player might choose to sacrifice themselves for the group. This dynamic of cooperation versus betrayal makes the gameplay even more intense.
4. Replayability and Longevity: 8/10
Devour offers good replayability due to its different levels, objectives, and random mechanics. Each session is different because the objectives change every time, and players must adapt to new situations. Additionally, the encounters with the creature vary, which keeps the gameplay fresh with each playthrough.
However, after several hours, the concept can become a bit repetitive, especially if players are constantly playing on the same maps. While the levels are varied, the objectives tend to follow a similar pattern, and the lack of major progression or changes between sessions can make the experience less captivating in the long run. That being said, the developers regularly add new updates and content, which helps to keep the game engaging over time.
5. Accessibility: 7/10
Devour is fairly accessible in terms of gameplay, but there are some challenges for players who aren’t familiar with horror games or cooperative mechanics. The game requires good communication, space management, and precise timing to succeed, which can be difficult for those not comfortable with these aspects. The learning curve is moderate, but the constant pressure and fear can make the experience challenging, even for experienced players.
The game is not particularly demanding in terms of hardware requirements, making it accessible to a wide audience. However, players who are afraid of horror games or who dislike the constant stress may find Devour to be too overwhelming.
6. Fear and Tension: 9/10
Fear is ever-present in Devour. The game does an excellent job of maintaining constant tension, largely due to the AI of the creature, which always seems to know where the players are. Scary moments are often preceded by warning signs (noises, environmental changes, etc.), which allows players to feel a growing sense of dread before the actual confrontation.
The game also uses psychological horror elements to keep the fear alive: dim lighting, strange sounds, perspective shifts, and the presence of the creature create a constant sense of terror. Cooperation is often tested when one player becomes the target of the creature, and the dynamic of "saving a teammate" or "leaving someone behind" adds an element of social fear.
Conclusion: 8/10
Devour is a highly effective cooperative horror game that successfully combines a tense atmosphere, engaging gameplay mechanics, and strong social elements. It’s perfect for players who enjoy psychological horror and team-based challenges. The tension is maintained throughout the sessions, and cooperation is at the heart of the experience. However, after several hours, the gameplay can feel repetitive, though updates and new content keep things fresh. If you’re looking for a horror game where fear and teamwork are the central focus, Devour is a great choice.
Devour.
its a really fun game and is challenging in some maps and is so funny with friends watchign them get dragged accross the map

Not scary, I exorcise demons for breakfast. Muhehehehe
If you enjoy horror games, just play something else. Minimal gameplay and terrible atmosphere.
"A fun little horror game to play with your friends."
Well, if you thought that, you're dead wrong! The first hour will be the only time you'll enjoy playing this game, maybe the whole first map if you're good. But after that, you'll slowly lose your WILL TO LIVE with every hour you spend playing!
First of all, for a game of this type, the difficulty is way too hard! No idea what the developers had in mind while programming this hellish atrocity, but they must have a penchant for torturing players.
In the beginning, everything seems nice and cool, but as soon as you throw in that 7th sacrificial item, shit is about to hit the fan. Stunning the main enemy becomes almost impossible, and if you manage to do it, you will get an ass-whopping approximately 4 seconds later. Guess why?! Because the developers thought it would be funny to make the stun duration virtually non-existent and have the enemy instantly pursue you again without you being able to stun them again for awhile - and trust me, they will get you.
And even if you are able to outrun them, your miserable life will be ANNIHALTED by the secondary enemies, which for me are EVEN MORE FRUSTRATING THAN THE MAIN ENEMY. Not to mention that their spawn rate is WAY TOO HIGH by the time you reach the end of the game! They will also force you to waste ALL of your UV, so you hardly ever have enough left to stun the main villain, which WILL cause you to lose a major chunk of your games. And did I say that in some maps they will steal your sacrificial items, so be prepared for nasty surprises!
And that's not the best part yet. I'm only talking about the "NORMAL" mode! "Well, I can bring my friends" you might say - of course you can do that, but to actually beat any of the maps you will be forced to sweat like you are some kind of esport player. Plus, even then, it WILL still feel unfair a lot of the time.
So what about playing on "NIGHTMARE" mode? FORGET IT! Especially on your own, unless you're a super masochist. But to everyone else, you WILL end up SUICIDAL trying.
There's one more thing I'd like to say. This may not be relevant to the majority of the player base, but for the people trying to get all the archievements - you WILL SUFFER. Some archievements require you to sacrifice a ritual item 666 times. Or do other things an ABSURD amount of times. In most games, if you're playing with friends, you'll do these things about 2-6 times, so just imagine how many hours of torture you have to put into this "FUN" game just to get a silly achievement.
In conclusion, instead of releasing another infuriating map to play on, adding useless pets, emotes and skins, the developers could spend a fraction of the time fixing the diffuclty - but I suppose they simply don't care since they probably never even played their own game.
Well and some of you might be thinking, "Maybe you're just bad at video games!" I dare you to try it for yourself and proof me wrong! Beat all maps on nightmare mode, alone!, and I will shut my mouth.
Want to like this game but there is a major flaw. Unless you enjoy not being able to finish a match then you'll walk away frustrated and angry. At around 8/10 objectives the hunts are almost impossible to survive. Even if you stun the demon once or twice, chances are it will catch up with immunity and grab you. There needs to be a way to mitigate that mechanic through hiding or hunt timers. Even if you find a spot the demon doesn't check, it won't matter. You still need to complete the objectives and (as far as I could tell after a 30 minute game) the hunts to not expire. So you either confront the demon or you die.
Very unbalanced. When we get high enough in an objective we get a cycle for trying not to die and stay alive. Game can be fun at times but get's annoying at times. It's a horror game, I'm not trying to grind for certain things.
The jump scares always gets me.
Game is really fun to play with friends, the only minus - sometimes it's hard to find other players to play with because lobbies are empty, there's no people. But In general the game is interesting and nice :) I recommend , especially with friends
The gameplay is really trashy. VR is almost unplayable, you get stuck on so many things, escaping is almost impossible. if you move your head like half a meter the game wont let you do anything and tells you to go back to the center. just an annoying experience really.
This game is VERY FUN EXPERIENCE with friends and I had ALLLOOOT of FUN
This game transformed my life immeasurably. Before discovering it, I felt isolated, despondent, and like an empty vessel, but now I feel empowered to step outside and truly embrace life. Thank you—11/10, no regrets!
Its alright? Not a big fan of the gameplay but the escaping away from ghost with ur friend part is always gonna be funny, dont recommend playing sithout friend tho, its kinda boring since there isnt much way to interact with the ghost.
fun game full of scares, loud a$$ screams from the demons, and butt-clenching moments. My heart was racing every time the demon would get me 💀 Dare I say, shit my pants. 10/10 would recommend if you've got a group of friends to play with. Demons are scary looking, maps are varied.
Thrilling game. Good graphics. Best played with friends. No friends = No play
This is the least scary "scary game" I have played in a while. The tasks feel directionless and the horror is effectively just the setting and getting chased. I truly think I must be missing something bigger to this game because I cannot for the life of me figure out why the reviews are as positive as they are
Interesting horror game, quite scary. Graphics are also normal. It is interesting to play both alone and with friends. However, when I played, I completed some levels more than 10 times, and there were 2 levels that I completed in 1 attempt.
Probably the best co-op horror experience I've played so far.
Although the gameplay loop is somewhat similar between all maps, I am always excited for the new big update everytime.
Devour - An Eerie Experience of Survival Horror
“A true test of teamwork against an insatiable beast.”
Devour is a terrifying co-op horror game that plunges you into the depths of fear and despair. You and your friends take on the role of cult members who must confront a demonic entity, all while trying to survive the night. The game’s premise is simple yet effective: cleanse the possessed by collecting and burning a series of items, but beware, as the demon is always hunting.
Gameplay and Atmosphere
The gameplay mechanics are straightforward yet engaging. You’ll need to work together to gather items, manage resources, and keep an eye on each other as you attempt to avoid the demon. The atmosphere is genuinely unsettling, with dark environments and eerie sound design that keep you on edge. Each map is uniquely designed, providing different challenges and adding to the replayability factor.
Teamwork and Strategy
Devour thrives on teamwork; communication is crucial. As you split up to gather the necessary items, the tension builds, and trust becomes vital. The dynamic of hiding and seeking creates moments of sheer panic, especially when someone is targeted by the demon. The gameplay demands strategic planning and quick thinking, making it a rollercoaster of emotions
Variety and Replayability
With multiple maps and challenges, each session can feel fresh. The game also features various difficulties, allowing players to tailor their experiences to suit their comfort levels. This adds a layer of depth and encourages players to come back for more terror.
Final Verdict
If you enjoy co-op horror games that require collaboration, strategy, and an appreciation for suspense, Devour delivers a genuinely haunting experience. Grab your friends, prepare for scares, and face the demon together. Highly recommended!

This is a good game for the right type of person. Unfortunately I'm not that person. The lobbies are dead so it's hardly impossible to get a group going unless you bring your own friends for one. Two, there is no difficulty level that allows players to get an idea of what they're supposed to do and the difficulty is spiked way up from the beginning. The dev makes no plans to add an easier mode, I believe stating the game isn't for everyone. And that's very valid and fair. I find Devour to be more frustrating than it is fun though and it gets to a point where it's more tedious than it is tense and nerve wrecking.
idk why my friends force me to play this shit game. like imagine getting invited to lan party, driving for 4h straight and having to play fucking devour. still better than all the other trash like farming sim 2022 tho, but that's just pure trash without any gameplay. Devour at least got that
Love this game! Tons of fun with friends!
PROS:
✔️ Really fun with friends!
✔️ Maps are really interesting and challenging!
✔️ Placements of the items feels fair!
✔️ Somewhat easy to pick up mechanics means that you can quickly hop into gameplay!
✔️ Playing with friends means you can test your communication skills!
✔️ Mechanics on the first map, after the most recent update, were VERY nice! They were easy to understand, quick to pick up and were very useful when learning the more complex maps!
✔️ The graphics in this game is fun! I really enjoy the monster designs! The maps design ( especially
the third map ) all feel really cool, somewhat similar to urban exploring!
✔️ The lore in this game is very interesting!
✔️Once you know what you are doing, the later maps are really interesting to learn the mechanics of!
✔️The later mechanics having more things to do are interesting!
✔️Having each animal related to how Azazel was spawned was a really cool concept! I think it's very creative and leaves the types of maps, items, animals ect that can be used with this game really open ended!!
❌ Playing on singleplayer feels too difficult
❌ Some of the enemies AI feels WAY too difficult even on normal!
❌Nightmare mode feels practically impossible, even with a full lobby!
❌Some of the secondary enemies feel really REALLY unfair. The enemies my group found the most unfair to deal with were the fourth and last maps!
❌ Sam can sometimes shoot you from all the way on the other side of the map??
❌ The werehouse is too difficult for my liking ( Two sets of enemies, blood puddles and an entity that is way too fast. Coupled with a big BIG map and the cold room doors randomly closing really throws you off! )
❌ Not really something "bad" but the spider section with Aracnaphobia mode sometimes makes the big enemy difficult to see ( Big black blob + Limited flashlight means she sometimes blends in- )
❌ The second map feels like a p!ss take. The entity is WAY too fast on 9 rats and managed to full wipe my 4 friends. She randomly appears, her targets make zero sense and the way the map spaces out medkits makes it borderline impossible for you to be able to res people, even when you place some of the medkits in one area.
❌ Some of the mechanics are confusing ( The most recent map ) and threw me and my friends through a loop to try and learn ( "Drowning baby" is the only way I can remember the mechanics.. )
❌ Sometimes the entity count is way too much to juggle, meaning you get scenarios that happen where you are looping around a well for 10 minutes waiting for your flashlight to replenish while all 3 of your friends are downed. Only for Sam to waltz over and one shot you from the other side of the map causing a team wipe 25~ minutes into the game with 3 books left to burn.
❌Some of the ways the entity can get to you feel REALLY unfair. I've been grabbed through walls, through floors..
❌The "red eyes = no stunning" mechanic sometimes gets confusing when you have to deal with really fast speeds. You aren't really looking at the eyes, more concerned about how fast they are going when you're "Only on item five".
❌Stunning an entity means they still walk forwards. They are more likely to grab and down you because of this. This is fine, but coupled with the fact they speed up with each item burned means you sometimes aren't fast enough to outrun the entity while stunning.
This game has a lot more negatives than positives in this review, but overall when I play with friends it is a load of fun! 4/6 maps feel really interesting, fun and fleshed out to play and I would totally play them over and over again!
The Asylum + The Slaughterhouse feel way too unbalanced. The entity, the map itself as well as some of the mechanics mean both of the maps are a big struggle to complete. Even on easy mode!
The Slaughterhouse was such a headache to try and play I genuinly would not play that map again.
Overall, I love this game and I loved watching it grow over the couple years I've seen it be out!!
I can't wait for the other maps to come out!!
Recommended
Devour is an intense co-op horror experience that I can highly recommend to anyone looking for a real challenge. Despite my extensive gaming experience, this game pushed my limits and kept me on my toes throughout. The difficulty level is no joke, and that's what makes it so satisfying.
The level design is diverse, with each map feeling distinct and offering something new to keep things fresh. Whether you're creeping through a dark farmhouse or navigating eerie woods, the atmosphere is always immersive and tense.
My only gripe is the inconsistency with the hitboxes on the doors, which can be frustrating at times, but it’s a minor issue in an otherwise solid game.
If you're up for a thrill and don't mind a steep difficulty curve, give Devour a try!
devour is extremely fun to play with friends, i love the game and i highly recommend
The bosses don't seem to have a "calm down" timer. There were moments when we would stun the boss, just for it to immediately get angry again. Or maybe a "calm down" distance, after stunning, if the player has run a certain distance the boss calms down. There also were moments where we were hidden but the boss was angry for a solid 15 mins before finally finding one of us, which I'm assuming was an issue with path finding. There should be a "calm down" timer here too, if the player hasn't been found in a certain amount of time, calm down and walk away. Hiding mechanics don't seem to work either, as the boss always seems to know where you are, even if they might get stuck in path finding. I understand the boss getting more aggressive as the game progresses, but it's unbalanced and unplayable.
To be completely honest, this video game went above any expectations I had for it. From the well-thought out story lines to the absolutely astonishing graphics, you can tell that this game had a lot of thought put into it. The experience I had playing this mind-boggling depiction of a horrifying thriller was beyond anything I've ever had the pleasure of playing.
If you are thinking about getting this game, don't hesitate. Buy. Consume. Devour.
gucci paants heheehhh
This game is worth the attention of all connoisseurs of scares and horror, in principle those who like to get on their nerves and scream from screamers
I played this with 3 other players with me as the only player in VR on Quest 3.
The game loop is clever and feels good while the story is dumb, but in a horror movie logic kinda dumb way.
The jump scares in VR will catch you sometimes (which is after all, the reason you're going to play this) but overall the game isn't too scary.
It's got that halloween haunted house vibe to it "blood on the walls! WooooOOOOoooo" kinda thing.
Perfect for playing with friends. But if you want something properly scary like Visage or PT, you should look elsewhere.
A blast with friends, and it's even better when everybody is completely clueless
Surprisingly very intuitive with its gameplay loops on every difficulty and level; each having a different primary objective and creature(s) to avoid
The game itself is all about management and strategy through cooperation at its core
I found myself alongside my friends each on our toes together experiencing thrill and excitement that the game brought us
Please give the game a chance, especially with friends
devour is so fun and chaotic you will almost never feel safe when in a match.8/10
only fun with friends and for speedrunning, gets predictable after first play
Great game for the price especially if you catch it on sale, the horror is pretty nice and I love the mechanics and how every level is difference and I love the harder modes because they can be a good challange.
Very good, worth the 5 bucks (10 now XD), has a lot of replayability.
Game gets damn near impossible at 6+ items, "hiding spots" are never pointed out so if you really cared enough you'd have to spend a few hours just to determine which corners are considered hiding spots since some maps don't have hiding spots. If it was a little easier it would be fun in my casual gamer opinion.
Fun game. Some math, bunch of track and field. Unlimited screams.
Finished every map in every difficulty. Comms not required. Shoutout to all chinese pros with pumpkin head.
this game is one of the best puzzle/horror game out there. all the maps are amazing, except for the inn and slaughter house. i love how there is something to actually grind for every update.
Title: An Intense and Thrilling Experience!
I recently played Devour with friends, and it was an absolute blast! The atmosphere is incredibly immersive, and the sound design really heightens the tension. Each game is filled with heart-pounding moments that keep you on the edge of your seat.
The unique mechanics and teamwork required to succeed add layers of strategy and fun. I love how every round feels different, thanks to the variety of maps and challenges. The character designs and storyline are engaging, making it easy to get lost in the terrifying world.
If you’re looking for a game that combines horror with cooperative gameplay, Devour is definitely worth a try. It’s perfect for a group of friends who enjoy a good scare!
5/10 wish you could cheese the game in normal mode and make it impossible in hard/nightmare. That way the game wouldn't be unnecessarily difficult in normal mode and doesn't make it feel like there is no difference to hard mode
Insane amount of content for the price!
The game has received new maps in the form of free updates since it first launched in 2021, which is honestly pretty crazy.
The game has 6 maps now at this point, with each one featuring its own unique game mechanics and strategies. Really scary and fun game. My only gripes are that the game's difficulty is very high, with the later maps being particularly hard. The price was also increased from $5 to $10, though it's still definitely worth that price, considering the amount of content that you get.
- Fun and Intense gameplay
- High replayability
- Cheap af
- Co-op with silly skins
Yes.
Game is fun with friends, but its difficulty scales up way to fast. Enjoyable in small doses.
Devour is a heart-pounding co-op horror game that masterfully combines teamwork, strategy, and pure terror. Its chilling atmosphere, relentless enemies, and intense challenges create an experience that keeps you and your friends on edge from start to finish. Perfect for those who crave thrilling scares and teamwork!
I wouldn't recommend this game at all, it's fun for about an hour however by the time you sacrifice the 9th out of 10th goat, the boss is like a heat seeking missile and there is no stealth aspect. Maybe fix the path finding and it'd be a better experience.
The most immersive and frightening game I have played in the genre. Don't recommend playing alone and at night with quality headphones (definitely recommend). The music and creature designs, map and mechanic variety, as well as the escalating intensity as you progress (and the creepy little details that develop) are all 10/10 and create a perfect horrifying (and satisfyingly challenging) experience.
This is a fun and hard game, but the thrill was the fun of it. Issue is, the directional audio. You guys REALLY need to fix that.
I genuinely think this is one of my favorite horror games I have ever played. Such a simple concept but I get scared nearly every game and have to push through to finish it lol. Playing this with my friends is always a great time, especially trying it on the harder modes. The newest map was very cool, I love the mirror and the new ritual with the heads. I definitely recommend this game to anyone else who loves horror games and being scared with friends. Another plus is the cool customization you can get by finding items on the map. Sometimes i'll get so distracted looking for the items I forget about the plan and get jumpscared lol. All in all I love this game and the time and effort the devs put into it.
this game is so hard. cannot beat it with 3 people on normal difficulty. fun otherwise, but once you get halfway, the monster is too fast to run away from and you dont have enough UV to stun them again OR get rid of the small enemies.
