It's not horror... and I was overthinking the puzzles like you would not believe. I kept getting everyone fired and got probably the worst ending in the entire game.... all while I thought I was going to be helping. Now I'm wanting to play again to see if I can fix my mistakes.
It's fun and immersive. The characters are quite interesting as well. The game is short though.
The story isn't too bad, the pacing isn't either. Though, when you replay it a few times, I do wish they implemented skipping full on cutscenes, but that's only if you played the game first and know what to expect when playing it again. But, I'm not complaining too much here.
Overall, just a good game and I recommend playing it!
I got totally sucked in as soon as I started. I found the characters and the story compelling, but I also felt frustrated at times with some very unclear instructions. Overall, great mystery game that I am definitely going to replay to see more endings.
Pretty engaging story, and a nice atmosphere/period-accurate portrayal. Only gripe I have is that the game sort of requires multiple runs for "true ending" (or at least various permutations of events) but there are things that prevents replaying from enjoyable (for example, forced cut scenes that you cannot skip). If not for these flaws, this is pretty fun little investigation game.
Without getting into spoilers, as soon as I started to realize the weight that my choices had on the end game, I agonized over them. While I never worked in a hotel, I spent many years as a janitor, and this game nails what it feels like to be a service worker. The writing is brilliant, the characters are believable, and I'm definitely playing this through a second time to try and get a better ending.
I really hope this developer makes more games, because this is one of the best times I've had in one. 10 out of 10 no notes.
It's clear that a lot of love and care went into this game and the final product is really great. Will definitely be replaying to get a better ending because I think I messed up at every single turn...but I still had a great time!
great game, the choices you make matter, but the game's pretty short.
The game is good and enjoyable. The only thing is that I couldn’t shake off the feeling of suspense - like I was about to get caught at any moment. Also, the romantic element felt a bit forced, though maybe that’s just me. In any case, it was nice to reminisce about the times when I used to play Nancy Drew.
This game really surprised me with its environmental design and instruction. The team did a great job of non-verbal storytelling.
I highly recommend taking your time! I'm the type of gamer that will feel rushed by some imaginary timer, but there really isn't any of that.
This game is truly one of a kind I like the setting of the game. Everything is so well done and story keeps you interested the whole way through. 10/10 will recommend this game to anyone who seeks to solve a great mystery.
Great little story game for any crime and puzzle lovers (especially those who enjoy the thrills of a little power-washing game play!). Would recommend this short and encapsulating game wholeheartedly. Great puzzles and so many ending options!
i had a good time, but it left something to be desired. the reveal was very slow burn and we had put it together far before the reveal. we were hoping for some crazy twist after, but no. gameplay was repetitive, although the riddles were fun. i would recommend it if you were sick in bed and just looking for something to distract you with low stakes gameplay. not the worst game but wouldn’t replay or rave to my friends about.
This game is such a wonderful mix of enviormental storytelling, Nancy Drew investigation, 1950's Aesthetics, and all of that wrapped up in a cleaning simulator. I have waited to play this game for a bit because I didn't have the money, but I am SO GLAD I DID! Worth EVERY FRIGGEN PENNY!!
Excellent game
It only took me about 4 hours to play through my story's ending. I am looking forward to at least another play through seeing what it could end like with some alterations to what I did the first time.
This game is very engrossing if you like mystery and investigation stories. The artwork and music fits really well and is akin to watching an animated movie. Seriously, a friend thought I was watching a movie, not playing a game. I think this was one of the best purchases I have made in a year. Same as going to the movies, but an actually good plot that I did not get bored with.
I will definitely play further games from this studio. Thank you for such a good evening of entertainment.
This game was amazing. From head to toe. I chose Beth as the accomplice for our beautiful protagonist hoping it would end in romance and chose to be just a bit curious to not risk anything and got the best ending possible.
Every minute was worth it, every puzzle was amazing and full of details and the finale with their art together kissing was the cherry on top. Indie games are the best, i am so happy that i got to buy it and get this 10/10 experience.
Now i'm excited to do a bad ending with the male character! xdxd
Thank you for this masterpiece ♡.
I love this game, the details and clues really make the story so interesting. You get really curious and invested in all the characters involved. It reminds me a lot of Nancy Drew. It feels like you're actually there in the 1950s from the atmosphere. I like all the minor details that really pieces it together. Sophie is a great main character that adds to the depth of the story. The game is short but in this case, I think that's a good thing. The creators did a good job of being detailed with the story and game play while not making it overwhelming to play. I'll definitely play another game made by this creator when they come out with another game! And I'm going to replay to see if I can get all the achievements/endings. I definitely recommend this game! You feel like a detective :)
This was a great game. It felt a little short, but I plan on going again and trying to get a different ending.
This game took quite a few unexpected twists and turns. The story was fun and exciting to follow. There is a LOT of reading in the game, but other than that it kept my attention pretty well and I truly enjoyed the ending. Definitely recommend!
Very fun but quick game. Worth it on sale.
Short and sweet, very pleasant aesthetically and nice story.
One of the best "choices matter" games I've played in years. Very evocative. The complaints I mainly see are about how you can't respond in ways people would like to, in conversation. But keep in mind: this is not a character customization game. We are walking in to an already-established personality, and our conversation options are limited (in tone) based on this. We still have a great deal of freedom of plot.
In this game you play the Maid "Sophie" in a 1950s hotel, but there are some strange things going on there.
You start the game by cleaning the rooms of your guests and keep on noticing quite concerning things in there.
That´s why you start snooping around and get to know more things about every guest and the employees there.
This quickly turns out to be a kind of scavenger hunt, where even the way Sophie tidies the rooms is crucial.
The puzzles are moderately challenging but not overly difficult.
The decisions to say something different or hide an item are all actions that can have very important consequences for the story. The game is indeed able to make you feel the weight of your decisions and you are able to get diffrend endings of the story.
Overall, the story is told in an exciting way and you always want to find out more.
The game also addresses the socially critical problems of the time, including divorce, affairs or dealing with homosexuality.
You can also start a romance with employees. Again, your decisions and actions in the game are very important. I think it's totally fitting and I think it makes the game more balanced.
The ambience is a bit scary. You feel like you´re doing something illegal and morally wrong.
The hotel has been lovingly designed down to the smallest detail and has everything you could imagine in a 1950s hotel.
“This Bed We Made” combines elements of a typical crime thriller with your own detective work, that keeps players glued to their seats until the last second in its comparatively short playing time. If you're looking for a short but catchy story game, you'll definitely get your money's worth here.
really fun and suspenseful. perfect for people who love snooping
Enjoyed my first play through although I missed a bunch of things. I liked how short the story was, contrary to some other reviews. It felt like a good "palette cleanser" game; kept me engaged and invested in the story and characters. I could see myself doing at least a second play through later this year for a different outcome. All in all, I do not regret purchasing for full price and will be keeping an eye out for other games from Lowbirth.
What have I wanted since I was 9 years old and playing Nancy Drew? A queer Nancy Drew with more mature themes. What was this game? Exactly that. I so badly want this to be a whole series of games! It's hard to find any like them and this was just what I've been craving for decades.
Thank you so much to the team for a wonderful game! I look forward to others like it!
The gameplay is interesting, and the puzzles are varied enough to keep me engaged. It can feel a bit like an extended fetch quest, but the mystery component makes up for that.
I loved that the decisions you make really impact the story. The story itself was SO good!
A very fun game, I liked the twists and turns of the plot and the slow burn investigation where new clues start to reflect back across old information. Very enjoyable experience to put together the puzzle pieces, and most importantly I like that the adventure was very self-contained in a nicely sized narrative. This was exactly the length of time I want to spend on a mystery, very good price-to-value ratio,
Purchased this game on a whim and wow, I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Very much a noir style sleuthing game with loads of puzzles and little hidden gems along the way. I will say that I rushed my first play through and missed a lot of things, so keep those eyes peeled. Currently 7 hours in with another play through completed. Planning to do another run to see what other outcomes I can get. 100% worth the purchase and I encourage anyone to play it!
Very interesting story, wish it was a little longer with a more conclusive ending.
Such a charming mystery game, can't recommend it enough! And I don't see many games taking place in Canada (my home) so that's always nice to see. If you're looking for a shorter mystery game with a gripping story, memorable characters, and a beautiful soundtrack; then this is the game for you!
My first playthrough took about 3.5 hours, and I got almost every possible ending in about 7. I'm glad I got it on sale for that amount of gameplay. Outside of that--LOVED the story and the many possible endings depending on what choices you make. Good voice-acting, good pace, memorable characters--overall I will be watching this developer for more!
This is a great mystery game for newbie gamers like myself. I should have taken more risks, the ending was a little boring but that's my fault. Def recommend.
The game is more of a walking simulator game, with a love story and a murder mystery in the background. Sophie's actions decides the outcome of the story line and she has two romance options. Graphics are excellent and perhaps the best that i have seen in Romance/Mystery genre. Voice acting is top quality. I enjoyed the game play and looking forward for more games from the developer.
However, one thing that felt impractical was that Sophie was searching in guest rooms and through their belongings, all the time, and anytime nobody walked in, not even other hotel maids or other hotel staff, let alone guests. If her search operations were time restricted this would have made the game far more immersive. Apart from this i didn't find any other issue with the game.
While not a masterpiece, easily the best detective game I have played in a long time. Puzzles are not obvious or unsolvable, but usually just the right variation and difficulty level to keep things interesting. I appreciate getting to make choices, most of the games I've played in this genre are more linear visual novels. Although some plot points feel a bit unrealistic, the dialogue is well written and I enjoy the ambiance. Will definitely get their next game!
I like the story and the theme that surrounds it. This reminded me a lot of Price of Salt/Carol ( 2015 ) due to it's theme in the story and the 1950s settings.
Characters are all great, especially the one heavily tied to the plot, but i'm kinda sad that we never interact with them directly tho ( made quite hard to connect tbh ), probably due to budget constraints since it's an indie dev, or it's the artistic design. But for the select few that we met, they all have great voice acting ( facial animations are bad though ), so kudos for that. But still, the lack of direct interactions with the characters really creeps me out while playing, the hotel just feel sooo empty. I wished we met with few more staffs or some random clients- I'm sorry i mean guests, that would fill the void i think.
Gameplay could've been better, it's decent and somewhat unique, It's really fun discovering the secrets in each room and connecting the dots altogether, or just simply cleaning them like a good maid. But the interactions are slow, the narrative ( tied to the gameplay ) is really linear and there are no risk to it, even though the story sometimes implied some.
This is just my pet-peeves but this game actually had a great potential as some kind of immersive sim. Where you were given more agency to move all around the hotel freely, non-linear approach, unlock more areas as you progress, doing more tasks that could affect the story, interact with more people while solving the mysteries. But It's just a pet-peeves nonetheless, don't take it seriously lol.
overall? It's a good short narrative cinematic game. Definitely take it if it's your cup of tea, or you like Patricia Highsmith for some reason.
This is an incredibly well written mystery, and although I wouldn't call it a "murder mystery" I'd still recommend it. However, if I were you, I'd wait for a discount. All in all I played about four and a half hours with some pause time and most of that was reading. I think $25 is a little steep for that. There is romance, but it is a little short and sweet. I would highly recommend this as a "I'm bored today and don't wanna play my usual games" kinda thing. The story was nice and I really liked the MC. There is multiple endings but no incentive to go back in my opinion as there's nothing new to find and I'm not going to replay something in it's entirety that doesn't change just for a different cut-scene at the end. Wait for a sale and you won't be disappointed!
For a less expensive game, the acting, setting, and interface were well done. However, I felt the in-game hints would sometimes direct the player away from taking the next best steps, e.g, focusing on less important rooms and evidence. Similarly, the social justice message and background seemed out of balance with the main purpose of the game: solving a murder mystery. The inability to skip dialogues also makes replay less desirable.
The story started off with promise, but it quickly became boring. By the time I was half through, I was so uninterested that I stopped reading clues and just wanted to get it over with. All the endings felt very anticlimactic. Even at a discounted price, it didn’t feel like it was worth the cost.
In this game, you play as Sophie Roy, a maid at the Clarington hotel. You clean the guests's rooms, talk to your coworkers, uncover mysteries and try to solve a murder
There are a bunch of different endings depending on what you did or didn't do, and its quite a fun little game
The cleaning parts are relaxing, the characters are vibrant and fun, and the mystery keeps you wanting to play - its good enough that it almost makes you overlook the bugs and the narrow path the game allows you to follow
There are two coworkers you can choose from to be your "accomplice", Beth and Andrew, and both of their routes are pretty sweet, although I personally prefer Beth's route/personality.
It took me about 4 hours to complete my first playthrough, and about 12 hours to 100% the game
Replayability is weird with this game, you'll spend a lot of time stuck in unskippable cutscenes and weird portions where you can't save/load, and while the dialogue changes slightly based on who your accomplice is, the way you progress the story is the same
And the story is... It starts off very strong, and it gets very interesting and sweet, but the conclusion to it is... Its... a conclusion. The story is concluded and that is an ending, for sure.
Back to the things I liked about the game:
The way you piece clues together is very fun
Snooping around to get to know the guests and to understand who they are and what their motives are is also very fun - and the characters are genuinely interesting to me.
The hotel definitely feels alive with many different characters and conflicts it comes with.
The music and the atmosphere - especially at the end, when you find a dead body - is REALLY good.
Overall, I'd recommend it to those who like detective games, puzzle-solving, and story-driven games, who don't really care about replayability or narrow story paths.
This game is filled with everything a lesbian could want - tension, murder, and amazing character development. The twists and turns were gripping and the snooping was reminiscent of a Nancy Drew game, which I appreciate. Looking forward to future releases and wlw storylines!!!!
This is everything a detective/mystery game should be. A tightly focused environment packed with interactions, well written characters, choices with satisfying conclusions, great pacing and a great soundtrack.
There are no cheap twists or cliche story beats. There's a touch of satire and no exposition dumps.
Overall the game strikes me as something David Lynch would be proud of.
The game revolves around a mysterious story, filled with secrets and hidden truths. Gives the best Nancy Drew game vibes with a touching tale. Plus the Life is Strange easter egg was a nice touch!
please, please make another one. i loved playing it. it was very exciting and fun to play. i also like that you showed the horibble cercumctances back then when people were homosexuel and that love can be very strong even tho it can end very bad.
thank you:)
Really great plot line and it's interesting seeing all the different interactions you could get between some of the choices made. The only critique I have is that it just feels like the Andrew as an acolyte option was a bit thrown together quickly compared to the Beth choice. Otherwise a really great game!
Not quite what it promises, but still an interesting enough story, if a tad slow. Worth playing, but don't expect a simulator or anything here; the game wants to tell you a story and all the mechanics are kinda secondary to that.
This game is beautifully made. I loved the complex story line and character development. The game play was a little tricky at first but I got a hold of it quickly. The only thing I could wish for is longer game play. I was able to complete one full play through in 6 hours.
I'm glad I got this game on sale, because it justified the length logically to me than the full fledged agony I may have felt if I had brought it at full price.
It did feel a little... misleading. On one hand, you got what it said on the tin- you're a maid in a hotel and you use your access to rooms to solve mysteries. Well a singular mystery, that has one or two different endings according to the blurb of others depending on the choices you make and the companion you use.
The story is... twee. It did feel a little bit of a sell out that it felt like the studio was screaming 'NOTICE ME, I HAVE MESSAGES TO SEND' and that I'm sure is fine, it's not imposing or harmful, and you...somewhat...have a choice? I'll be fair, I played it through once, I've not had all the possibilities yet.
Nevertheless, this leads me to my primary issue, since there is one singular story (and not many as they seem to imply, or at least, I seemed to understand, and if that was my issue, I hold my hands up) I have to now put this down for some time to forget most of the plot to try another direction - and I'm sure some may argue comes with the territory of murder mystery, but for a game?
Graphically, well, I came across bugs, very slow lag in places that caused crashes, but it was otherwise pretty and researched well for it's time period, and that I give credit for.
I wish it would have been stretched more, maybe a few mysteries and variety; and us nearing the end when the incident actually takes place kinda makes it less 'murder mystery' and more 'extremely nosy maid who gets into other people's business just because she can, and were we meant to like you for this main character?'
Personally, the background stories of the people who work with her would have been an additional nice mystery, instead it was just to tutor us on 'choice making that will effect the outcome' for the ultimate end.
But, while it seems I'm ragging on it, it's only because I think it could have done better for the price originally asked for, but for a sale price, and a game to while away some hours, then yes, I give it a recommend.
The storyline is very good and seems realistic for the time. The only downside is that the many clues and names make the mystery very big and spread out and sometimes difficult to follow. I do recommend this game due to the story and characters.
