Trully awesome sequel. Very interesting and compelling story paired w/ remarkable gameplay mechanics. I really enjoyed it, just like the first game. I hope they will make a third one.
Well, i dont have much to say, just it is stunning. The story, charakteru, visuals. Everything is perfect.
Awesome game with astonishing graphics, good that i have a pc that can run this game on ultra settings in more than 100 fps :D.
Didn't except the end of the game to be like this but now we know there will be the third game of Plague Tale, but in modern world.
A Plague Tale: Requiem must be one of the most moving and engaging pieces of media that I have ever consumed. Outstanding voice acting, brilliant storytelling and character development, immensely emotional.
Also the hardest-to-swallow ending I've ever seen in a game.
Thank you for this piece of art.
Very strong story line, and nice graphics!
The story left an emotional void after I finished it. The combat, stealth, and scenery are all fantastic. A must if you enjoy the first game.
i waited months before playing the this sequel. it was longer than the first game yes, it might be boring at first, but it get interesting and wasn't expecting the story will go the way it did. it is a good game overall, 8.8/10.
difficulty: 8/10 (it was difficult on some part especially if youre lacking upgrades, but its alright)
story: 9/10 (it was so good until the ending and post credit scene!!! waiting for plague tale 3??? hopefully)
graphics: 9.5/10
overall: 8.8/10 !!!
This is a good sequel for the previous game.
Graphics are stunning, the scenery and world is so beautiful, it is full of life.
In this game we have more gameplay options. You can either go stealth, go and kill everyone, or do things on oportunity for example extinguish a fire and let the rats do the dirty work for you.
Had 1 or 2 minor bugs but after reseting checkpoint it was fine.
I've noticed they learnt more from the previous game. The combat is way smoother, savepoints are not chosen randomly anymore.
Story is well written I wish I would forget it so I could play again :D
It felt like I was there.
Gorgeous landscapes and great gameplay! Loving every bit of it,
This is easily one of the best story games and series I've every played. I love the combat mixup with the crossbow, I do hope they fix the smearing issues I saw with it on ultra, technology was causing that but whatever it is really takes away from the artists and how detailed they made their environments. The setting choices were amazing, the only critique I could have is that I wish the kid whined less but I guess so do all adults.
This is a great sequel to Innocence. An emotional story-driven adventure where you have multiple options of solving the situations. The gameplay is smooth and an upgrade from the first part.
The graphics are simply gorgeous, especially the environments. The sea, mountains, lush countrysides of southern France are breathtaking.
The story and atmosphere can go from cheerful and optimistic to really dark and violent quite fast (and the other way around).
And of course, the rats. No, RATS! Without spoilering too much, let's just say that things take truly epic proportions this time.
The only con is that the game can feel like a (slow) walking simulator sometimes, so if you're not into such things, then better pack up some patience, as it is worth it in the end.
I was looking forward to this game, really liked the first one. But this is a half baked mess. The logic in story/interactions has more holes than swiss cheese, the controls are more hindrance than helpful the game mechanics just randomly make you run in whatever direction they feel like. For the first time in a very long time, I'm not sure I'll finish the story because it just is such a big disappointment
A very deep story driven game, not rushed, the tales tell crystal clear. Enemy AI was good, Perfectly arranged. Sometime got a heartwarming moment, sometime a storm call. "Calm before a storm" is basically what the games about.
Very good story, excelent ending. Gameplay sometimes lacks quality. I ragequited many times due to unpredictable inteligence of enemies, but story was worth it.
I played the first game and loved it!
I didn't have the same experience this time, I got almost 11 hours into the game and I found myself playing it just for the sake of beating it instead of actually enjoying it. Maybe one day I'll come back to this and enjoy it like I did the first game but I think that the gameplay is a bit too boring and hasnt changed/evolved enough to keep me engaged.
A very good sequel game Asobo Studios did it again and didn't disappoint. The story telling, the graphics and music everythings is great, also liked the new gameplay with the new characters introduced. The ending is also great.
Definitely recommended if you played the 1st game. 10/10
Amazing story!! Balanced, challenging combat.
A gorgeous game, for a wonderful franchise.
Gameplay
It is pretty much the same as in the first game, Plague Tale: Innocence. With the difference that it is harder than its prequel. This makes the player focus more on steath rather than anything else. If you liked the gameplay of the first one and like good stealth on games (just like me). I am sure you will like the gameplay. And if not, don't worry, the game won't force you to do full stealth and you can still go full agressive and kill everyone if you want to. But it will be harder than you might think.
Story
For me, one of the things that made innocence one of the best games out there was the story, and requiem doesn't get behind. The story told in requiem follows right after the first game and gives a story that filled me with emotion and made me want to know what will happen next, all the time.
(As a side note I must say that Requiem does not recap on anything told in innocence and it is supposed that the player already knows everything that happened in innocence. If you are interested in Plague Tale but have never played it before, I highly recommend playing innocence first than requiem. Because if you play this game first, you will understand nothing going on. And if you've already played innocence but don't remember the story well. Just search for a summary on the internet. It will be enough)
Graphics
Just like in the first game. Graphics are terrific and amazing. I couldn't help taking some screenshots to store them as wallpapers from the beautiful the game was.
Summary
I really liked this game and I recommend it to anyone who liked Innocence and want to know a really well written story.
10/10
I've never completed a game that I enjoyed less than this one. Everything about this game, and the first one, is relentlessly grating. The plot, the dialogue, the gameplay; every bit of it made me just want it to end as soon as possible. Probably the most annoying aspect of to me, though, is Amicia herself. She just can't go more than five minutes without having a full blown breakdown. I understand that she's supposed to be young, and this is supposed to be a terrifying ordeal, but you would think that by the end of all of this, she would have some amount of composure under pressure. She definitely does not. It's just freaking out and whining the whole time. Hugo's pretty bad too, but she's the worst. I definitely will not be playing either of these games ever again. If they made a third, would I play that? Probably. Fuck.
Microsoft Based Simulator 2022.
This game hasn't figuratively ruined my life, it has literally ruined my life. Eternal suffering is what I must and shall endure for this game and all that is still good and pure in this world.
Any who read this, if any at all, there is a light about this creation, similar to what The Lord of the Rings has around it, I know not what it be, but I shall dedicate the rest of what remains of my time upon this blasted, mortal plain to discover what exactly it is, and where it came from and why it is here of all places...
Anyways, something came to me upon the wind one day not too long ago... Although I am no insider, the third game will be called "A Plague Tale: Vendetta", do not ask how I know this, but it shall be the case. If it is in fact called the aforementioned, remember these words, and remember them well, for the times ahead for all peoples shall be rife with terrible things, as it is foretold...
I do not have much time left, GO FORTH, SURVIVE THE COMING DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, REMEMBER THE GEORGIA GUIDESTONES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
!!!2033!!!
What a game! The writing, voice acting, graphics, and immersion are simply incredible. Asobo Studio has done an outstanding job, and both Innocence and Requiem are unique storytelling masterpieces. I highly recommend playing both to experience this amazing and emotional adventure.
The story is amazing, I love the relationship between Amicia and Hugo. Also the gameplay is definitely improved since the first one! This is probably my top 5 story driven game.
Genuinely one of the best games I ever played. Finished it 3 times as of now and am planning to attempt all achievements soon.
I love the characters, their design and story, and how easily attached you can get to them which only makes the later chapters more emotional. I've grown so attached to Amicia and Hugo that it makes so upset whenever they cross my mind. I love the storytelling in this game, along with the graphics. The music and soundtrack is also really really good and I can't help but listen to it quite often, even the soundtrack for Innocence. Olivier Derivierie was actually my 2nd most played artist this year on Spotify and honestly i'm not even complaining.
Seriously amazing game and I feel like it should definitely be appreciated a lot more.
Played the first one on PS4, and still better than this second one. Great graphics even tho play this game in 2024. An emotional Rollercoster story, waiting for the third one.
It's basically the same casual game as the previous one, but it attempts to improve in various aspects with mixed results. Gameplay-wise, it introduces more open sections, giving you additional choices on how to navigate the map. However, it’s still far from the level of games like Dishonored. With this new freedom, a few bugs have slipped in, but the generous autosave system helps mitigate their impact.
Story-wise, the first third of the game doesn’t make much sense, but the later parts improve, featuring characters with their own agendas. While some of the story twists feel dumb at times, it’s still an improvement over the last game, where everything felt flat.
The game is short, so I recommend buying it only if you enjoyed the previous one—and even then, consider waiting for a sale. It's a good title for relaxing on the couch with a controller in hand after a long day at work.
Great story telling, enriched with adventure, love, and pain. It broke my heart on what I had to do at the ending.
Warning! If you consider playing this game, you MUST play A Plague Tale: Innocence to get this story's masterful experience and impact.
A Plague Tale Requiem is, without a doubt, a worthy successor to A Plague Tale: Innocence. It expanded on everything that made Innocence good and increased it by a near-exponential value. Did you like the rats from the previous game? Now, there are millions. Do you want the gritty, depressing story of children fighting to survive the hellish landscape of the black plague? Well, there is much more of that this time around. There are more ways to maneuver combat encounters via stealth, combat, and alchemy. You are in for a ride, and you once again take control of Amicia De Rune as she fights to save her brother Hugo from the macula’s hold on his body and physical. She will do whatever it takes to save him, even if it means sacrificing her last bit of innocence.
Requiem follows the story of Innocence and, just like its predecessor, has you navigating through France during the 100-year war while dealing with the swarms of man-eating rats and soldiers that want you dead. The story is grittier than its predecessor, so much so that when I beat it the first time on Xbox, I had to take a month-long break from gaming to process that story. You will explore the history of Macula and how it is connected to plague outbreaks, all while witnessing Hugo fight to suppress the dark corruption within his blood. The story is so well written that my jaw falls to the floor at certain moments. The bonds that Amicia, Hugo, and their companions share as they go through traumatic events, one after another, will never be forgotten. Especially as you realize they are mostly all children, forced to adapt to a world that wants them to fail at every turn. They are children forced to sabotage and kill (sometimes innocent people die from their actions) just to survive. Amicia is a character. While you may question her decision-making sometimes, remember what she went through in the first game and that she is just a child! She struggles with how much she has had to do in such a short amount of time, all the people she has killed, and the friends and family lost; her conviction is admirable as she slowly loses her sense of humanity right along with her brother as they are constantly pushed towards the brink of death. Amicia and her companions will continue in a world that has their hopes and dreams continuously crushed throughout the entire run of this game due to betrayal, injuries, death, and the horrors of the macula and humanity; it makes you wonder precisely how they can continue to find the light where there is no hope to be found. The story of this game is a must-play experience. Just be prepared for a very dark story.
The OST soundtracks are very good. The OST “Up There” made me cry the first time I heard it. You will know why once you get to the set piece where it is playing.
I played this in 1440P Ultrawide, and it is one of the best-looking games I have ever played. The different environments looked stunning, from the sunny cities and islands to the dark, death-filled rat nests. The sound of the game, from the voice acting to the rats destroying everything around you, also sounded perfect; I played with Astro a-40s for reference.
The gameplay is massively improved but took fewer risks than I would have liked. The crossbow and new ways of utilizing alchemy made combat more interesting, but it needed to be more innovative. It was serviceable. The stealth has also been improved; however, it was more of the same as you experienced in Innocence. Some sections also make no sense, such as intense combat sections that see Amicia (a teenager) take on numerous people in the military simultaneously, which is very hard to even remotely believe as she takes them out primarily with her sling. It makes the soldiers you are fighting seem like a joke. Thankfully, most encounters are usually centered around stealth, slight strategy, and absolute chaos due to the rats influencing the environment to take out your opponents. Depending on how you tackle combat encounters, Amicia will gain skills; if you sneak past enemies, she will start to move quieter and faster. If she kills a lot, she becomes more aggressive and agile with her equipment in close quarters.
A Plague Tale: Requiem is an emotional tale I will never forget. I played it at a very emotional time, and how I experienced this game may be different from others. I am happy to have 100 percent this game (it took me 27 hours), and I STRONGLY recommend this to anyone seeking a good story. This game was only held back by its serviceable, not innovative, gameplay. However, I am giving this game an 8.75-9/10 due to how it knocked everything besides combat gameplay out of the park. If I were to base my score solely on its story and environment, I would give it a 9.5/10. Please play this game and its predecessor; you won't regret it!
Very shocking and sad ending! A masterpiece of storytelling and character development, everyone should play this amazing game!
Excellent graphics and a good story. A sequel that far surpasses its first part in every aspect and closes its protagonists in an interesting way
8.5/10
I got the first chapter on the EPIC GAME for free. I didn't realize that would be such a good game but it have proven that I was wrong. So I bought the second chapter on steam on my own.
This adventure is more thrilling, and the depiction of the characters is more impressive and the fights in this are more varied.
9/10 for the game, but a 0.5 decrement for its unstable performance. A hard work for my 4070TI.
This is one of the best games I've ever played. The cinematic direction, the story telling, the visuals.. having beaten the game just a couple hours ago I'm still left speechless after the amazing, incredibly experience this has offered me.
This game has left an impact on me that I will not so soon forget. My only regret is not playing this sooner. I could go on and write an essay about it but really.. just play it for yourself.
A Plague Tale is an amazing game with a dark and insane story.
I don't usually post negative reviews, and this one isn't going to be bashing the game like many negative reviews might. It's more of a mixed bag imo. BUT I want to give fair warning to anyone looking to get this. Innocence has a much happier ending. A crap ton of people die, yes, but things are looking up at the end.
Requiem is just depressing. It's a beautiful game, has some great character moments, good voice acting, great score, I appreciate the improvements to combat, and I really liked the first half, but the rest made me so SAD, holy crap. At some point it just feels like they kill off likable characters because they can.
It's also much less grounded in reality than the first. In the first, Hugo's a child who's got this weird disease and summons rats, oops. In this one they made him out to be more like some sort of otherworldly superpowered rat deity.
You have to be in the right headspace to play this game and if you're at all empathetic, chances are it'll hit you like a truck. Fair warning.
This is an amazing sequel. Everything that I loved about the first game - the compelling and emotionally rich storytelling, the gripping narrative, the wonderful voice acting, the dramatic soundtrack, the heart - is not only here but it has been intensified. This is a truly exceptional game and I will never forget it.
I HATE the ending on the second game. It ruined it entirely for me. I am fine normally with sad endings, but this one ruined the whole series. Gameplay is good. Graphics are good. Thats about is.
great game. somehow better then the 1st. story is epic, the ending will break u.
Finally had the time to finish the sequel, and it was worth it!
Beautifully crafted world, amazing well written characters, a narrative that hits you right in the feels, and audio that is just handcrafted for the game. It is a step above its predecessor, in every single way!
Wonderful story game with tons of beautiful scenery.
Lets not forget about Lion, RIP.
A Plague for Stuttering, but still a masterpiece nonetheless.
You would have thought that the teething issues with stuttering for innocence would be solved after years, but no, it is actually MUCH worse for the sequel. The graphic quality are stunning but traversal stuttering is unbearable. And this is on a relatively high end PC, mind you, 5800X3D with 32GB RAM and 4090.
I found out that DLSS and frame generation is better left DISABLED for my case, and by artificially limiting it to 60fps the massive lag spike would be less jarring. The game seems to dislike VRR and high frame rate. Keeping GPU utilisation below 100% around 60FPS by frame cap and turning up all the eye candies helped for me. Look for other comments for more ways to get around this if you need.
Still other than this almost fatal flaw, the story telling is great, music is majestic, graphic is stunning, motion capture is fine and voice acting is impeccable.
Do consider that the puzzle is not difficult, game play is linear, and combat are so-so. But if you look for a cinematic interactive experience, few come close to this. Would still recommend, but do not hold your breath for another patch to fix the stuttering.
It's so slow and tedious. I am probably impatient and for me waiting after a cutscene for the camera to finally and very slowly come around before I get control back of my character made it really frustrating and hard to continue. Actual gameplay time is probably only half of what you spend on the game.
Gameplay was underwhelming at best. One of the series' schtick is where you are under artificial or sometimes "real" time pressure and are told to please feel the urgency. It worked in the first part much better, or maybe the formula just got old. Other than that it's fiddely and not a game where you actually master the inputs or use reaction skills.
Story was meh, and the first game's story was better. Story telling is done well with cutscenes, but i felt they were too often interrupting gameplay and often too long as well.
Graphics are ok but I'm not a good judge of that and also don't care that much.
what a great game..i am 44 years old..this is the best game ive played so far..first game was great but this second game is masterpiece..what a gameplay story and actions..
thank you for bringing this masterpiece game to us..
I don't even know where to begin, I am deeply moved with the story. I won't spoilt it for you but you should really play it. Also the game play is excellent and graphics are amazing.. Bravo Focus Entertainment! Bravo!
Awesome storytelling with amazin graphics. This game will make you cry.
Great game and pretty much a straight upgrade in every term compared to the previous one, especially gameplay. Easy recommendation for all gamers.
I can't even... the ending to this game was the saddest moment of any form on "entertainment" I've ever experienced. I literally cried like a baby, then went to watch other people cry at the ending on youtube (don't search unless you want to spoil the end) and cried while watching them watch it while crying...
The game is so well made that you get completely lost in the world and characters, they feel like family to you, and plague feels so overbearing and unbeatable, it's a daunting but beautiful game.
10/10 ... Just be warned you'll probably end up sitting through the credits because you're too stunned to move...
One of my favorite games. Breathtaking graphics and a very well told story. Gameplay was a bit repetitive at times but still fun overall.
The game is not much different from the first part, but it is a great continuation of the story with a rather unexpected ending.
Fantastic game! A worthy follow up to the original with spectacular visuals and sound design, strong performances, and better gameplay. While I would say the narrative isn't quite as impactful as the first, there are still many very dramatic scenes and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A True Sequel. Bigger, better, darker and absolutely stunning visuals. 9/10
If I were to sum up my feelings about this game in one line it would be this:
"So good I gave myself the plague after completing it"
The actual review:
If I think of the best 3rd person linear story games I've played, I think of Horizon Zero Dawn, Control, and AC Odyssey. Asobo Studios have produced a blindingly good game. I don't want to spoil it but here's a few things I loved:
1. It's set in 14th century France
2. The medieval soundtrack is incredible. Do I like it more than HZD soundtrack? Possibly.
3. Your character, Amicia, and her little brother Hugo are brilliantly voice acted, and the motion capture is the best I've seen.
4. The game is not drowned in features and maintains a consistent balance, with everything that is done, done pretty flawlessly. Stealth, combat, exploration, secrets, upgrades - all of this done with the experience as a whole in mind.
5. The game engine is optimised and the world looks stunning, including weather effects, land and sea. Like HZD and ACO, I had to just pause and let the 3rd person camera slowly spin around so I could enjoy what was obviously a labour of love for the developers.
6. This absolutely obliterates most so called AAA games, or excuses for games that are released these days. And by that I mean games are getting worse, and gamers are getting ripped off or duped into buying hastily developed, heavily marketed, and technically broken games.
7. There are parts of the game where the development team have decided to show off, and give you an opportunity to enjoy what they have created rather than speed running through it. Not that I'm into speed running, but I like a game where you can slow down the pace and take it all in.
A huge well done to Asobo Studios. That was an incredible 23 hours of gaming. I've played other 3rd person games for longer, including HZD, Control, and ACO (these are my benchmarks), but were they better games? That's a tough one.
