Our family played this game together, and we loved it! The story was immersive, well-paced, and felt incredibly believable. The narrative was beautifully crafted, keeping us engaged from start to finish.
One of our highlights was the music and visual design—both were stunning and added so much to the overall atmosphere. The voice acting was top-notch, bringing the characters to life in a truly memorable way. Each character was unique and left a lasting impression.
Overall, this was a fantastic experience, and we highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well-told story, great performances, and a visually captivating world!
not AS good tbh, the twist was mid
BUT still beautiful as always and a good enough story non the less
It's hard to say that I recommend this game. Not that it was bad. It was a beautiful story, with stunning graphics, and as much as I enjoy the "Choices Matter" type of games this one was not quite up to par (Examples of my expectations being more along the lines of The Quarry or Until Dawn) several times I felt utterly drained from it doing cut-scene after cut-scene (that I was unable to skip) and it felt more like a movie rather than a playable game. The Re-play ability is there if you want to change choices, but I don't think I could handle it with the overwhelming amount of cut-scenes. It is good, but less of what I was expecting. This is the first and only game in the Life Is Strange series I have played, and I am willing to try out the others. But I am very glad I waited for the game to be on sale before purchasing it.
Honest opinion, I liked this one a lot more than the original life is strange. It has a lot of heart
Game was alright, much better than lis 2 and a bit better than before the storm. Lis 1 is still better although this game was pretty neat.
I really liked the story. It is quite diffrent than the first one, which i coyld relate most, but it has the elements i loved: the puzzels, the diffrent outcomes, the storytale. It;s a great game for something chill and relaxing.
I've been on a Life is Strange binge the last few weeks. I did the first, before the storm and now true colors. I played Life is Strange 2 a while back and it's still fresh in my memory. For the longest time, I thought of Life is Strange 2 as the best of its genre. But honestly, after playing this one, I have a hard time figuring out which one is the best between the two. It's hard to say much about the game without spoiling it. You're basically a girl that has been in the orphanage system for a few years due to family complications around the age of 11. Your brother tracks you down many years later and you meet him in this perfect little town. Then.. Life is Strange does its thing.
As for the DLC, it is completely opposite to the base game in the sense that it felt like a chore to play. It is fairly expensive at that. You play a side character of the base game which you initially speak to during Life is Strange: Before the Storm (you don't need to have played any of the other games for this DLC to make sense). They could have made it so much better like the bonus episode of Before the Storm where it goes into the childhood of Max and Chloe. But for this DLC, you're locked in a single location doing work for a side character. Nothing really fantastic. If you want to support Deck Nine, feel free to get the dlc. But if you just want to experience all the content, I'd suggest a heavy sale for the DLC as it is very expensive for what it is. Side note, it has no achievements so for achievement hunters, the DLC is unneeded.
Absolutely beautiful depiction of empathy and forgiveness. Made me cry several times. 10/10 recommendations.
The people that create the Life is Strange games are such amazing storytellers. These games never fail to make me feel nostalgic even with views I've never seen and music I've never heard. They really touch my heart and bring me so much gratitude for human connection, this one especially. LiS 2 was my fave but this one might top it once I'm done. Life is Strange is just one of those things that is done PERFECTLY.
Wanted it for a while and well life is strange games never dissapoint, loved every second<3
99% of dialogue comes down to picking a very obviously bad or obviously good choice, apparently i got the "best" ending and it was a complete snoozer nearly the whole time. Believe it or not making it so that you can see people's emotions makes it fairly obvious what to do in any given situation.
The final twist was decent enough I suppose, but there's no gravity to the situation. Your brother (the ONLY character that has any connection to yours) dies in the first episode, and the rest of the time it's a corny investigative romance simulator with people you met the day your brother died.
Having entire sessions of the game just be entirely about DnD is also just brutal, I hated it in BtS and it's probably on a similar level here but more drawn out. Similar to the "wolf brothers" thing in LiS 2, but that game was actually good overall.
It fails to live up to the 1st or 2nd games and is relegated to the "Wish I didn't buy this full price" category. Boring "power", boring dialogue, boring characters, boring game. If you like pretty scenery, indie music and creampuff dialogue you'll probably enjoy it.
This game is about emotions, and it plays that part so well. The way it portrays grief and every feeling that comes with it completely blew me away. I cried. A LOT.
Set in the gorgeous mountains of Colorado, full of flowers, beautiful views, and amazing music, this is a masterpiece. And perhaps my favorite Life Is Strange game yet.
And if youre hoping for the classic LIS kick to the gut in form of a disturbing plot twist, gosh youre in for a treat.
amazing game!! vibes are imaculate, emotions are high and the twists and turns in the story make it exciting as hell! 100 percent recommend!
Could have been amazing, and it did feel emotional at times but overall you end up being the entire town's shrink, for no good reason. The love interest is cute but not fleshed out and the last quarter of the game was basically one huge cutscene.
I'd still recommend it, it's a beautiful, slow, game.
I know how this sounds, but just hear me out.
I didn't read the Steam description before buying this, so I didn't expect the brother to die. His death shocked me more than that Jefferson-style move that character pulled in the second half of the game.
Overall, a solid game for 10 hours of gameplay.
The cosy game of the Life is Strange universe - this game is so cute, actually tho.
As soon as I saw Steph was going to be in it, I was sold
It has some good moments but has a overall inconsequential story, unmemorable cast of characters and is ultimately a very hollow-feeling game.
Loved this game, especially because of the romances. So glad that LiS brought back the main character having powers! I really enjoyed using Alex's powers, and sometimes they even made me laugh. Great characters and story, and absolutely gorgeous small-town setting. Would highly recommend this to fans of choice-based games.
Can't believe I paid to play Emotional Labor: The Game
Great graphics. Nice music. The plot is just...sad. One-dimensional characters. So many instances where every available choice annoyed me. Pushed myself through it because I grew up in the area this game was based on.
This is such a great game; although a weird turn for the Life is Strange series. The LARP was very interesting to play, yet didn't seem Life is Strange like. Yet overall, a great game and would love to play it for my first time again.
So, so much better than Double Exposure.
Visually, the game is stunning. The dialogue isn't as unnatural as other LiS entries and the characters are all unique and the choices you make with them do actually matter.
Features five chapters that are about 2 hours of gameplay each, give or take. Chapter 3 is my absolute favourite out of any LiS game so far!
The original LIS was an odd game for me. I appreciated what it was trying to do, but I didn't think it really pulled it off. I found it a little too tonally uneven and hard to buy into. Fast forward 6 years and I decided to give the series another try.
My initial impression of LIS:TC was very strong. The visuals are beautiful, and in the first few hours it presents a much more grounded and relatable story than the original LIS, with a lot of well acted, likable characters. Once you get through the first act though, cracks in the narrative start to show. Nobody in this game seems to know what a lawyer is or why you might retain one, and a lot of artificial drama is mined from this. Still, with a little extra suspension of disbelief the narrative still holds together with a lot of compelling threads until the final act hits and the wheels completely come off the bus. The game suddenly throws an absolutely ridiculous twist at the player, which is then resolved in an absurd and unsatisfying way, and the whole thing becomes an eye-rolling farce.
Game writers need to be more confident than this. Not every narrative needs a huge game-changing twist. Trust your audience not to get bored if you don't slam them with something shocking every so often. A nonsensical ham-fisted twist ruins a story a lot worse than a lack of a huge dramatic finale.
I don't really understand the hat this game gets, I started crying almost immediately, utterly gorgeous game an even more love-able characters. I <3 my mountain man Ryan sm T-T
Another masterpiece in my opinion, after all each LiS game has claimed a corner of my heart. Gotta say it's not as emotional as the first game was. And if you're new to the franchise, I highly recommend upgrading to deluxe for the Wavelengths DLC which provides an amazing set up for Steph's backstory (or genuinely, just play the previous games, you won't regret it), who is arguably also one of the best characters in the series. The DLC made me realize that I'm clearly still not over the previous LiS games and I don't think I ever will be lmao. But seeing Steph starting fresh in the new town really allows me to appreciate how much the series has come to mean to me and how it continues to make me deeply care about all its characters in time. Really hoping to see Chloe again at some point!
Fun game!
at first, i found it a bit boring, but after a while, i got into the story and kept going for hours (it felt more like a exciting book).
It's a pity the game ends so quickly after the mystery is solved...
All in all, though, a great storyline!
It's pretty good! Not as good as its predecessors but we all knew that to be true. If you're a LiS fan there's no reason to miss out on this story because of the criticism it receives online. However, I don't think it's quite worth full price so try to get it while it's on sale.
In so many ways, True Colors is the only game in the series that holds a light to the first game. While this game is very narrow game play wise, it makes up for it in many ways. Secondary characters are dynamic with very lifelike development. Your choices can shape how characters interact with you and others later. Characters are also relatable. Their problems. Their feelings. Their actions. All of them feel real.
Alex has a power/curse that really makes you run some thought experiments. Choices that should really make you think. And those choices aren't just blank slate "oh doing this is always wrong!" or "Its so obvious doing this is the right call." Alex's powers also grow and control over the game. Something that is really nice to see.
The antagonizing force in the game also hits home. I won't spoil it, but especially in the United States it really helps to drive home the evil at play.
Major Spoilers from here on! Read on at your own risk.
The thing that really does it for me is that this game portrays the grieving process so diversely. Not everyone is just sad. Not everyone is "lock myself in my room till I'm better." Steph is sad about the lost potential of a beloved friend and partner in crime. Ryan and Charlotte are angry at how everything went down. Some people are scared at what it could mean. And even though we see life go on, we see that the grieving never really stops. The way emotions are portrayed is great. I was immersed from beginning to end both times I've played. Some scenes even brought me to tears.
It is a shame though that the game really doesn't change in the end depending on any choices you make. All your choices have small outcomes. There is a powerful scene at the end where these choices can thematically help you, but functionally, every game will end exactly the same. The only thing that changes is the final cinematic and that only matters for romance choices. I would have like to have seen a secret morality mechanic or a "does 3 or more council members support you in the end" lead to different outcomes the way 2 had an affinity system.
All in all this is a game I have played more than once of my own volition. And I will likely play it again. Is it perfect? No. Is it the best game in the series. Not a shot. Do a Recommend it? Well, there is a blue thumbs up isn't there?
Ryan was the only thing getting me through this game.
Good story, great emotional scenes, but the pacing is so bad and jarring, not sure why a 60 dollar game only has 10 hours of gameplay, with ZERO replayability since your choices don't change anything. :c
I'd replay for Ryan though...
This is my favorite Life is Strange game. The characters, story, art direction and gameplay peak here.
An amazing sequel that brings something fresh to the LIS whilst still sticking to the OG universe. Powerful music, incredible atmosphere and such relatable/lovable characters and interactions 10/10.
+ Strong points:
- A very gentle human adventure
- Well-built characters
- A nice corner of exploration
- Very good choices for the soundtrack
- Very enjoyable little side quests
- Weak points:
- A main plot often in the background
- A fairly limited exploration
- Some lengths
Summary: Life is Strange: True Colors is an experience that is appreciated in the gentleness of its journey, enhanced by shimmering colors, more accomplished animations than ever and very beautiful melodies. With this episode, Deck Nine Games has chosen to explore empathy from top to bottom; a preponderant aspect in the powers granted, the narration and the construction of the characters. Overall, it provides a very neat adventure on a human level, but which undeniably lacks a certain liveliness in its actions and the unfolding of the plot. The result is an investigation that lacks a certain panache. In any case, we constantly retain the pleasure of consulting the usual summary that comes to recap our choices and the paths not taken at the end of the chapter. And in case of regret, each one can be replayed.
14/20
First time playing Life is Strange series, love the story and characters in this game. I like how emotions are being presented in this game. I really like the ending, feels complete. After playing this game, I really feel like Life really is strange and there's many possibilities in life.
Just finished the first two chapters and the emotions and scenery reached a part of the heart I didn't know I had. Straight Grinch moment
Good to have a game that wasn't all about Super powers, plenty to do in the town, good story line. Another good example of feeling connected with the character in the game.
The plot twist is excellent.
Would recommend giving this a go, if your into story based games.
This game feels like a big step down from the first two. The story is super generic, lacking the emotional depth and complexity, and I didn’t really care about most of the characters. The choices you make also don’t feel really impactful or meaningful, and the whole experience just feels way worse than what came before.
This game is a truly beautiful game, i must admit. the graphics are absolutely amazing, though, with amazing graphics they lost what a life is strange game is truly about. i've played through every life is strange game before true colors and i will say, true colors doesn't feel like a life is strange game. That doesnt mean it is bad though, i would give it a mixed review if i could.
I played with three other people watching me, we would talk about the game throughout playing it. we agreed that the first three chapters seemed a lot like filler, especially the third one. We sat there for about a hour rambling about the choices the developers went with the game and how much we disliked it, we also mentioned that the characters never felt like people EXCEPT for charlotte and elanor at times, the rest of them felt a lot like nothing burgers pushing the plot along except there isnt really any plot except for the last two chapters, one of the chapters is just filled with a roleplay game (LARP) which was fun but it just felt a little out of place when all we've been doing is running around haven at that point. Where the plot happens is the last two chapters and only the last two chapters. The three main characters, Steph, Ryan, and Alex don't show any sign of struggles, trauma, or improvement, causing them to feel extremely one dimensional, especially next to Chloe.
There is a silver lining though, the game does do a semi good job on the last two chapters, throughout the entire game me and my friends weren't engaged or excited to come back for more until these last two chapters. These last two chapters were where they finally go into the heavier plots of the games like Alex's home life and what happened in haven though the game never hinted or did anything to foreshadow these events so they just fell flat.
The voice actors are fine, they did good. there are some points where the voice acting dips in quality a lot but i can over look that. The writing is a major issue in this game though, with the characters the writers really failed them. If you're looking for a well written game that compares to the last two in this series, this is not the game for you, just replay the first life is strange.
FORGOT TO MENTION THIS BEFORE, but, YOU CANNOT PET THE CAT. Also, i 100% the game my first play through and i'm very slow at playing these games so take in account my playtime when purchasing this game.
I would only recommend this game if it was on sale, this game could have been worth the 80$ CAD price tag but it just fell short. If you like this game, i don't blame you! It is a good game, but it realistically shouldn't be sold for 80$ CAD when it feels just half baked, y'know?
Alexandra Chen appeals to me in ways I can't explain. It may be that she's the closest to me than any of the other Life is Strange characters, or it may be that I think her empathy powers are the coolest and I wish I could be like her and read other people's emotions in real life like open books? Maybe, Although there's also the risk of achieving emotional trauma because of having so many feelings bombarding you constantly and potentially spinning you out of control... right... but, isn't life sometimes like that? Even without empathy powers?
Yeah, it's decided. I would like to be Alex Chen and feel deeply. I may get a little traumatized at the end of the day but I'll be a better person because of it! (also I will make a fortune as a therapist, economy solved! but that's not the point...)
This game has some strange contradictions going on with it... and that is, for a game that is all about feelings it certainly left me feeling a little cold by the end...
Once again, I do love Alexandra, she felt more real in a way (Max Caulfield move away, sorry!) and I did like two moments specially when she really gets going and uses her powers to "understand" something going on with someone, I was like "yeahh that's so cool! she totally gets it! She's like, a detective of feelings!! An emotional PI !!! Wow!!! I wish I could have that insight into people it would make life so much better! alright! this game's story is going to be awesome!!! but then... it's sort of... not.
So, in tipical " Life is Strange fashion" something catastrophical happens right at the beginning of the game and we are soon drowning in tears trying to understand, Why, where, when... what ? And what follows is a string of very low key dialogues and every day life situations which honestly, except for a few moments didn't really do it for me.
I feel really conflicted about this review (at least the game made me feel that) in the sense that, I see the potential for what could've been, in my opinion, the best Life is Strange, the coolest main character (and also lots of love to Steph!!!) but the story itself and the dialogues are so weak that this was, sadly, the LiS game that tooked me the longest to complete.
Maybe the let down is more unexpected since after playing LiS Before the Storm, by Deck Nine also, which incidentally has the best story of any LiS game, I was expecting something at least half as good as Before the Storm, but, that was not the case here. Even with all the upgrades in technology regarding performance capture (fully captured/animated facial expressions which bring much more life into every character) sadly, that can only take you so far if the script is not that good.
Also the music, a strong point of all the LiS games left me a little indifferent this time around. There are great themes from time to time, don't get me wrong, but I felt that the overall collection of music tracks (by different artists) lacked something that could connect them cohesively and, more importantly, with the game.
In Life is Strange when riding that bus with Max, listening to that song in the first game, I felt the moment, I lived in, I was transported right there riding the bus with her.
In life is Strange Before the Storm, when Chloe remembers her dad at one point and starts "breaking" things and the soundtrack plays "Daughter"... it was chilling, it was cathartic, and almost healing (in a strange way) music had that effect on me.
I kind of missed that on True Colors.
If only I could "thank" True Colors for one thing, that would be, that it was the one LiS game that finally got me interested in trying the series, and while it didn't end up being on my favorite list, at least it gave me an excuse to play all the other games in the series, and in doing that, playing Before the Storm, but also having some good moments on all the other ones.
And of course, now that a new game was announced recently (in the middle of playing this series in 2024) I now have one more thing to do. Life is Strange Double Exposure. The return of Max Caufield.
I loved the first game when starting it, Max reminded me of what it used to be being a young art student, studying photography at school, of all the things I wanted to say and do. But I was certainly not a teenager when playing LiS and those aspects of the story felt distant to me… that’s one thing I did like about True Colors, Alex being more grown up (at least a young adult) no longer playing as a teenager and so I always wondered how it would be playing Max as a grown up? ... until then, listen to this…

I really enjoyed the power in this LiS game, it was pretty fun to interact with the npcs and here what they were thinking, my personal favourite was bald guy. In addition, I enjoyed playing the story and I liked the choices that were given in this game as I felt they did impact the story and some of them were quite difficult decisions to make (where I had to pause the game and brainstorm what to do LOL)! Also, the soundtrack of this game was amazing! The main drawbacks for me was that the story was a bit shorter than the other LiS games (I finished it in just under 11 hours, even with reading everything and exploring everything I could within each chapter). Regarding Steph's DLC, I personally found it quite boring but that might just mean it wasn't my cup of tea.
Overall, I would recommend to buy this game when it is on sale as I felt it was a bit too short to justify the 50 quid price tag.
I really liked the direction this game went, it didn't try to imitate what the first game did but also wasn't too divided like the second game. It is its own thing, and it's great.
Although the story isn’t as compelling as the original Life is Strange, I really enjoyed Alex’s character and personality, as well as her interactions with the townsfolk. The environment is beautifully designed, with vibrant colors that perfectly align with the game’s title. While the gameplay is relatively short, I particularly loved Chapter 3. However, I do wish the game had been longer to further explore its world and characters.
gud game hehe
and a message from my friend that played the game through together:
======================
literally one of if not THE best game i’ve ever played. right up there with Life is Strange 2.
i usually just review games based on how i felt when i was playing it and this game made me feel like i was missing out on life by NOT LIVING IN HAVEN SPRINGS BECAUSE FFS ALEX WHY WOULD YOU EVEN WANT TO LIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE AT ALL AFTER STEPPING INTO HEAVEN???
i think true colors is the PERFECT life is strange game that embodies what life is strange series is to most people who play the games:
it’s got the small-town cozy atmosphere that makes you want to live there in a heartbeat.
the characters are all SOOOOOOOO lovable and huggable and you want to know everything about everyone (and you can do that here because you can read people’s minds!!!! it’s AWESOME) and even the random NPCs on the streets got interesting stories that make you want to overhear each of their conversations.
the music???? you either want to sleep and listen to it in your dreams as background noise or have them play it during your funeral just so everyone would feel melancholic yet positively fond of life in general.
the choices you make DO MATTER A LOT in here. some choices are more important than others ofc, but ultimately even the love interest you choose impacts the outcome of the cause you were trying to get to the bottom of. it was so satisfying when i found out that the love interest that i chose turned out to be the best one that supported my cause the most lmao.
honestly??? if you love story rich choices matter game, this is probably one of the best ones you can play out there. you’ll be DEVASTATED when it ends. you’ll wish you could just reach into the screen and live in the game for the rest of your life because everything is better there.
i still wish i could.
Truly in love with this game!!! I love all the characters personality, relationship and I love the story a lot!
Just buy this game three days ago and yet I already start my second play through and will definitely play it for the third, fourth and more!
Very poor character development, the story is not involving and completely uncommon for this series - there was no actual drama. There is some anti-corporation propaganda pushed and it is really hard not to go out with Steph - it felt canonical that the main character is gay like it was in the first game.
It feels that the series is all out of fresh ideas. I found the first one groundbreaking, the second one very emotional, but this one is plainly put boring.
I was excited to play this game because I really enjoyed Life is Strange #1 and #2. Unfortunately, the story falls flat and is way too simple. The first game had so much depth and it felt like your choices matter. I'd describe #3 as more of a visual novel that lacks character development in anyone outside of the main character. Sadly, if you're a LiS fan, I don't recommend TC.
It crashed during Chapter 5 and deleted/corrupted my save. Not good enough a story for me to want to start again.
The production value of this title is high, but it bored me to death. The characters are one-dimensional, and there is not much to do or interact with in the world. Alex's power is contrived and lacks depth. It's very linear with a not-so-great story, and the few choices you can make that have an impact are often hard to read, where you might misunderstand the meaning of the choice which does the exact opposite of what you might expect.
Still, Deck Nine succeeds in capturing this peculiar LiS vibe of the '90s indie-rock teen angst, albeit with less of a Lynchian chord (LiS 1 had a stronger Twin Peaks/Donnie Darko feel attached to it). The game is technically quite nice and, again, well-produced, but lacks dimensions and doesn't go deep beyond a Sunday afternoon teen TV drama. It might be for you if that's your jam or, broadly speaking, for teenage sensibilities.
I'm halfway through and might finish it, so I'll change my review if it "colors me surprised", anyways if you're interested take it on sale, I don't believe it deserves more than 20 bucks.
As someone who has played the full story of this game (excluding wavelengths) I can tell you that its good, but to defo wait for a steam sale. The story of true colors is amazing, i honestly didn't want to stop playing ever and the characters just felt like they had atleast one thing about them I could relate to. I am currently now playing wavelengths which is not required for you to play to be able to fully understand the story. I myself only got the deluxe edition because it was at such a good price! I would defo reccomend this game if you like the life is strange series and the 'choices matter' genre.
Probably my favorite of all the life is strange games. The overarching story isn't as world destroying as the first game. It's more grounded and realistic. It's something that could very easily happen, and probably has many times. Alex's powers, unlike the other games, are not the SOURCE of the problem (which is a nice change). They just help her resolve it.
All that is kinda secondary, though, because the strength of this game is the depth of the characters. Throughout the game I felt Alex's pain, fear, and anger. They did such an incredible job at sucking you into the personal life of not just the protagonist but the side characters as well.
Life is Strange emotionally wrecked me; True Colors was incredibly cathartic.

choices barely feel like they matter, especially when it comes to the ending. love interests feel forced. characters are overall too nice to you in a way that makes them feel flat and unrealistic. fun game on a casual initial playthrough but falls apart on replay. if you want a murder mystery in a mining town where your choices actually feel important play twin mirror instead.
