Okay, so like, I absolutely love this game. It's a wonderful little sandbox game that looks great, plays great, has great writing.
I love the characters, especially Tanuki.
By my god, can we talk about the marketing of this game for a second?
I'm sorry, but the trailer of this game leans way too heavily into it being much more comedy focused than it actually is. To a degree of presenting itself almost as a meme game. It's a pretty bad trailer in my opinion, to a point that if it were my first exposure to this game, I probably would have never had any interest in trying it.
In reality, LCBC does have comedy but the experience overall is much more chill and laid-back. It's kinda the perfect open-world game by my standards.
It's... Ok.
That's the problem with Steam's review system. When you see "Overwhelmingly Positive", it makes it look like an exceptionally brilliant game!... Even if it's just 6'000 people saying "Not bad, I guess..."
It's not bad, it's just... Not great. It's extremely short, the gameplay is pretty dull (there's nothing exciting to unlock in terms of new abilities or meaningful upgrades) and the writing is equally mediocre. Were it not for the cute factor this would be a mega thumbs down... But for now, I'm just going to say: Overrated.
Most fun being a cat I have ever had. I am glad LKBC was not more challenging, as simply enjoying felinity is the whole reason to play. I think this game was perfectly designed in scope and style. Enjoyable for any cat lover.
I was hoping for a game similar to Stray where you are an adorable kitty but more wholesome, and this is perfect! It's soooo cute and I love dressing up in my funny hats. I also love breaking shit
I am so sorry for this negative review of what is a delightful concept and simple game made by an independent developer, but that does not give anyone the right to not only over charge for a game, but an incomplete, buggy mess at that. I am hot off the trails from replaying Untitled Goose Game and the entire Dredge series, and honestly, both of those games did what this game could not for even less of my money and way more game play hours.
The movement is clunky and finicky, and do not even bother lining up your next jump because...welp, you've just glitched somewhere again or clipped through under the map again or got forever blown away from a vent again (no really, my cat got perpetually "blown" away for so long I had to force shutdown the game). For a game I 100 percented in under 9 hours, I should not have been forced to shut it down 3 times that amount.
Glitches and bugs aside, the game play needs to take a stance on how it feeds information to the player. At the start, it seems like it will tell you all you need to know on how to move around and further more, it reinforces that by continually telling you what buttons to press to pull, drop, or deposit items; however, it does not do that all the time for other movements, making it infuriating to figure things out yourself when the game started off presenting itself as a game that would spoon feed you.
Lastly, I'll be that snowflake and say that I do not think the NPCs in this game should be allowed to swat the cat. I was trying to get a can to recycle and it caused two NPCs to trip and one of them hit the cat. No. Full stop. I know this is a video game and we are annoying to these NPCs and they can finger wave, sneeze, or storm off all they want...but hitting animals in a cute, cuddly kid game is gross.
Also, with that last thought in mind, I will say I was really sad at the laundromat area. One of the washers/dryers is open and the cat can enter it. Nothing happens...but...unfortunately cats accidentally dying due to sleeping in washers/dryers and the owner not noticing is simply not unheard of. I feel this is completely unintentional, but still a complete oversight. I would have loved an educational opportunity where say an NPC kicks you out saying "now now kitty, I know these spaces can be warm, but please never do that again, it could be dangerous."
Would love for this studio to next time either release a beta version of their game to work out bugs, or wait for everything to be fixed. Oh, and regardless, lower the price. 25 dollars is an outrageous amount of money for what we were given.
more like little kitty, block of city..
id say its short and sweet a cute little kitty game where you need to get back home
i got 100% in the few hours i played so its not too hard to find everything (except those darn rubber duckies)
little tip: you can recycle cans!
Definetely an adorable and fun sandbox to explore with your Kitty. I enjoyed my short time with it. I kinda want to give it a negative review just cause 20 Bucks for 3 hours is OUTRAGOUS of a pricing. But unlike Stray that was the same playtime for 30 Bucks this one is sliiiightly more reasonable. Cmon Devs the game is good, but if you make a 3 hour indie game ask a fair price for it.
This game is pretty much what I expected when I pre-ordered and booted up Stray. Not some stupid interactive movie with über-restricted controls that was trying so hard to be im14andthisisdeep. No, I expected a fun action/adventure platformer where you played as a cat. Which this game is from start to finish, thankfully.
I found out about this game from Facebook of all places, so I guess that's one of the few good things that came out from the Zucc.
I enjoyed most of my time playing this game, it was a fun experience. Though there were some ways I think this game could've been improved. For example, I wish I could see which direction the object you're about to swat would go to. The game already shows you where you'd land (after jumping) if you hold down the jump button, so I think that would've been a nice touch. I pretty much had to do guesswork + trial and error when swatting certain items on side-missions where you had to swat certain items to certain places.
Other than that, it's a very good game that I would highly recommend if you like cats; and want to go on an wholesome, fun adventure as a Little Kitty in a Big City full of quirky animals. ^^
very cute, very calming, very demure, very mindful.
last year i had the chance to try this game on game pass i used to have a cat named luna who looked just like the one in the game she would sit on my lap and watch as i played we enjoyed it together now she's no longer here but this game holds a special place in my heart because of those memories it might just be one of the sweetest and coziest games ever.
Best cat simulator game. Short game so worth buying on sale. Not so much worth full price.
Very short but extremely charming and fun to play. Controls are smooth and the collecting is satisfying as is the sound design. Easily worth playing if you're a fan of cute, relaxing games + You DO in fact play as a little Kitty in a big city! :)
Frankly, Overpriced.
It's a good game, but even with a 30% discount it's not really that worth it.
if the game is on a 50% sale. that's about where it's worth getting for the money
The name is a little misleading. it should be little kitty on the block, since there are barely 5 streets and some alleyways. You might be thinking 'but there's always up right? no the game is almost entirely street level. there are 3 buildings worth climbing. Speaking of climbing, there's literal climbing as well. on surfaces with vines, this climbing is slow and uninteresting and should be avoided at almost any cost.
Even though I don't recommend buying it, it does have some upsides. The game is cute and has some humor. the missions you can do are all charming and well thought out. The animations of both the cat and npcs walking around are expressive and fun. And overall the mechanics work as they should.
Overall a good 6-8 hour long game, with 100% completion in maybe 2 more hours. 4/10
The game is nice but not worth the money as the main story is so, so short! I would only buy this game if it was like over 50% off at least...
Pretty cute cat game with some fun quests and progression gated by getting upgrades. Doesn't overstay its welcome but not much replay value unless you want to 100% (probably not that hard).
a fun cool cat game where you explore the city and climb to big heights and funny little hats to show off you start from the bottom but eventually rise up to the top back to where you live
This is so adorable and the gameplay is super fun and not boring at all! I did get a ball stuck in a bush glitch that made me rage during stream but that glitch has long been fixed. I can't forget all those cute hats and the other critters this kitty meets that have such interesting personalities. I love this game and super recommend it to whoever comes by it.
Played this when it launched and it's a fun little cat game. OK, maybe I'm a little biased. Despite the warnings about recommending a controller I managed to play most of the game just fine on keyboard on mouse. It does feel better to play with analog sticks though!
I remember there were ways to easily clip outside of the map and get softlocked but I think all those issues have been fixed alongside straight up adding a "unstuck" button in the menu.
My only real complaint is the price and wishing there was more to do in the "open-world playground" aspect of the game. It's a very short game for what you get and outside of just running around, looking at the scenery and messing with random NPCs/objects there's not a whole lot else going on.
Otherwise, it's a fun game!
Charming game with gorgeous sound design and visuals complimented by a lovely art style. It feels like a cosier version of Untitled Goose game, but with a greater freedom to explore and complete tasks in any order you like.
fun little cat game. great if you're short on time and just want a cozy and fun game.
SO fun! I like to make the people suffer by tripping them continuously. Would recommend to kitty lovers! Characters are adorable.
Little Kitty, Big City is a very cute game that I enjoyed and deserves the praise it has received.
The core of the gameplay is quite good, there is a large focus on exploration, and given the optimally sized map filled with plenty of detail and verticality, it does a great job. Easy puzzles accompany the exploration and I would have liked to experience a greater challenge, but when considering that this game has a low barrier of entry so that it is fitting for all ages, I think it makes sense. The movement itself can be janky at times and it gave me a few moments that were quite frustrating. However what was most frustrating were the handful of glitches that I encountered, the first dog you encounter was not there even though I had just begun the game (not a great start honestly) and I had to reload it, items wouldn’t break despite falling large distances fairly consistently, and I had a few times where my movement was messed up and just did not work right to the point where I was launched into a wall at one point (and had to reload again). Given the playtime I logged it does seem like it was a bit too frequent of an issue for a game that has been out for months, but nothing was game-breaking, just a bit frustrating. I also found that the achievements for recycling and getting your pictures taken were annoying, but that is just something that achievement hunters just have to deal with sometimes. Overall Little Kitty, Big City is a fun experience and was worth the time I spent on it.
The story is minimal but very cute. Your goal is just to get home, so it is pretty bare bones and you can just do it without interacting with a surprising amount of the side content. What sticks out though is all of the other animals’ side content, they have cute bite-sized stories and they are good stories too. I do think the Chameleon’s quest line is too long and it feels like it is just stretching the time artificially, but it is not egregious. Beyond that the dialogue is written well, the humor is acceptable, and the world-building is wonderful.
The sound design for the game is good. The relaxing city jazz music builds a good foundation for the mood, the sound effects are good, and the cat noises stick out as a highlight. I am not a huge fan of the music, but it fits well into the background and it is not repetitive so I didn’t mind. Overall, the sound design is good, but it does not excel in my mind; however, it is hard to complain about it as well because it is just not as good as it could be.
The art style is mostly strong. The cat and other side animals are well-designed and expressive, the colors are bright and create an urban environment that feels welcoming, and the variety in assets for the size of the game is impressive. The biggest drawback to the art is that the humans don’t look good; I think that the animations are too stiff, the models lack variety, they are clearly less detailed, and I really don’t like that they lack faces when the animals are so expressive and filled with detail. It just clashes with the rest of the wonderful style sadly. There are also several areas where items are disconnected from others they should be connected to which is not always visible, but when you notice it, they do stick out. However, if you can overlook those complaints, I think that you will enjoy the art; it runs well and looks good.
A lot of my friends called Little Kitty, Big City “Stray 2” and I see that, and if I had to say which is better I would say Stray. That being said they have different philosophies, Stray is a story game built on its strong world, art, and smooth gameplay; whereas Little Kitty, Big City is a very charming playground of exploration, so I think that the comparisons are not equal. However, I am so glad to see a game like this, it is simple, fun, easy to get into, and charming. It was a great experience for me and I hope that when the 2024 Steam Awards come around it will at least be nominated for an award, I know that I will be nominating it for the Sit Back and Relax award if they have that category again this year. And who knows maybe not only will it be nominated but it will also win it. >^.^<
Little Kitty, Big City is an adorable adventure that will almost certainly turn you into a cat lover, if you're not one already. It oozes charm and the realistic cat animations are simply incredible. Although for as fun as it is to wander about the city, the game leans heavily on fetch quests and gathering up collectibles which can lead to repetition. If you're someone who thrives on that kind of gameplay, then you'll have an absolute blast with this one. Little Kitty, Big City sets off to do something simple and does it well, delivering a fantastically cute and charming little cat game where you can do everything you expect a cute kitty to do. Short, sweet and relaxing, Little Kitty, Big City just might be one of the cutest games I've ever played. It does not reach for the stars but it is a fun little romp for anyone looking for a relaxed adventure. An absolute joy to play especially if you love cats.
Basically Untitled Goose Game but with a bigger more free roam world and easier, the cat is cute and I love the corn hat specifically. please sell the corn hat. i want it. i have an unhealthy attachment to the hat and i need it
You're a little kitty in a big city, and you need to find your way home! Very cute game where you get to run around as a little kitty, doing silly cat things - what's not to love?
My only issue with the game is it was way too short - give me more kitty content! ;-;
ONE OF THE BEST KITTY GAMES OUT THERE
such a cute aesthetic, animations etc. Simple but engaging story. Feels fun to run around the areas freely, interacting with things and unlocking hats!
Disappointing and Overhyped
I went into Little Kitty, Big City with high expectations, but sadly, it fell flat in several areas. While the concept of playing as a mischievous cat in a sprawling urban environment is undeniably charming, the execution left much to be desired.
The biggest issue is the lack of depth. The world, while visually appealing, feels shallow. Exploration gets repetitive quickly, as there isn’t much variety in activities beyond basic fetch quests or knocking over objects. The lack of meaningful progression or challenges makes the experience feel more like a tech demo than a fully fleshed-out game.
Additionally, the controls feel clunky at times, which is frustrating for a game where movement and physics interactions are central. The novelty of being a cat wears off fast when you’re fighting with the camera angles or awkward mechanics.
To make matters worse, the game feels unpolished. I ran into several bugs, like objects clipping through the environment and interactions not triggering correctly. These issues break immersion and make the game feel rushed.
Finally, while the art style is cute, it doesn’t make up for the lack of engaging gameplay. It’s hard to recommend a game that feels like it relies more on its adorable premise than on providing a well-rounded experience.
Unless you’re a hardcore fan of cat-themed games or don’t mind shallow gameplay, I’d say skip this one or wait for a deep sale. Little Kitty, Big City is a missed opportunity.
Rating: 5/10
I very much enjoyed this game! It's really cute and funny, and is great if you want something a little relaxed. Playing as a cat in a game was a new experience for me and the animations for it was so fun to look at (cat parkour was epic). The interactions you have with the characters are all so silly and fun too.
If there's anything I would change, I would add more things to do and explore and maybe giving the player some momentum when you run or being able to increasingly run faster the longer you run. I 100% it in almost 8 hours and I just wish there would be more playtime but I still liked it a lot anyways. I hope that maybe an expansion could happen soon or something that would be so legendary!
Super cute little game. Most activities are optional, so it's just kind of wander around and explore and do what you like - but, as you make your way back home, you get to meet characters you've befriended and helped along the way again.
Purrrfect little escape from reality. beautiful art, and interesting story.. I wish I had this game growing up. excellent job devs!!! keep 'em coming!
Very fun game for being a mischievous cat! I will say that the price is a bit too expensive (for the time the game takes to complete), and i do think that it should at most be $10. Other than the price of the game, I do think that it is a fun game to 100% and just fun overall to cause some much needed chaos
cute, wholesome, adorable fun! main story is a bit short if you kinda speedrun it but there's plenty to do and collectables to find to 100% it. the ending was happily emotional too~
This game is very fun and enjoyable with the cozy environment and story, it has some small elements of comedy and for a puzzle lover like me, its purrfect! some things can be a little more challenging then others but nothing that makes me want to quit the game.
I love this game finished it in one day its so cute and full of activities the Dialogues are silly and cute I love it I didn't skip even once I got every achievement in the game that's how much i loved it
I love the game, its really cozy and cute, i have lots of fun playing it, though i wish you can customize the kitty like colors the eyes and the fur
It's a cute game and you can easily get lost doing all your cute quests, I just wish the game was longer and the map slightly bigger. Took 8h to complete so not as big as I wish it was but still real cute. Wish there was something else to spend your shinnies tho cause i finished the game with 200 to spare xD
10/10 cat game, Exactly what I wanted out of a cat game. The movement isn't locked to context sensitive buttons and let's you jump around freely. Only wish there were more environments.
Just a sweet platformer/puzzle game. It's not too difficult and is super duper cute. If you just need a good time, this is a big recommend.
ADORABLE! while the main quest is kind of short it takes nothing away from the game! its so cozy and cute! felt so fuzzy the whole time playing and 100% plan on playing alot more even just to wander around as a cutie kitty! GREAT GAME!
Loved this game from start to finish. The hats are adorable and I love how there's so many of them to play around with. The only thing I had an issue with is that the graphics/perception of the game did give me nausea which got better when I increased field of view (but please note I am prone to motion sickness, usually I require a scopolamine patch when going on boats)
This game’s a vibe! It’s my chill spot after all those rage-inducing games. Highly recommend it 👍
Absolutely adorable and heartwarming game. It left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside after I beat it and I definitely plan to play it again.
Adorable and fun if you're looking for a wholesome experience. A lot of funny and cute dialog, various animals, and easy but satisfying puzzles/quests.
My ONLY complaint is the parkour and climbing, but that could 100% just be on me. Overall super cute and I would recommend to any cat or animal lover.
the amount of bugs this game has is wild and the movement is a little weird tho ill give it a thumbs up since i like cat
what a delightful exploration and homeward-navigating game! lots of parallels with a short hike and untitled goose game, but a very satisfying and peaceful way to spend a few hours (and then a few more to 100%)
Fans of Untitled Goose Game and maybe Donut County will probably enjoy this game. The camera and controls can be finicky at times but it didn't ruin the game for me. The writing is charming, the cat is cute the puzzles are pretty simple but still satisfying.
Giving this a positive review but if there was a middle option it would be that. The game is cute, insanely well animated, and obviously full of heart, but the "local celebrity" and "litter picker" achievements were just so, so unnecessary. They take this from an 8.5/10 to a 7/10 for me. Literally just completely unnecessary padding on an otherwise cute and engaging little game.
To the devs: Take litter picker down to 25 cans, heck even 10 is enough for such a boring little gimmick. Local Celebrity 10 or even 3 if you're feeling truly spicy. Both achievements are not puzzles, they are just monotonously spamming the same action over and over for 30 minutes or more.
A cozy, relaxing game~ About the most stress I had was trying to steal a fisherman's catch, or when I'd accidentally hit the jump button off a tall building (though I suppose that's the theme of the game.) The art style is pleasing to tired eyes, the dialogue is quite enjoyable and got a few snorts, and the little moments of peace, taking naps in the sunlight, released a lot of tension.
100% can be a bit tough and grindy. Reloading the map helps for the litter/vending machines. Though the grind really wasn't that long (maybe an extra 20 minutes after running around finding everything else.) But otherwise the achievements were enjoyable and showed some cool interactions and/or rewarded creative/funny senarios.
If you want a cozy weekend title similar to A Short Hike, this is a solid pick~
silly game, silly cat. The only issue I have is the fact that the jump sometimes bugs out, and sometimes won't let you jump. Other than that, very very good game!
This game is super great. Really fun, cute hats (who doesn't love adorable hats on cats, I love the animation style, the platforming is fun, the animals you meet are quirky, the task are super fun, and the trophies are silly. Just over all really great game. I'd love to see a second game for this. Maybe from the POV of a dog maybe and in the country side.
