Cannot play the game after 5hrs playing. It says that Activation Error. My social club account is not entitled to Red Dead Redemption.
This was my second playthrough (first time was on the PS4) and I swear the story only improves the more you play it. This game is nothing short of a masterpiece. I wish I could go back in time or erase my memory of it so I could experience it without knowing what's coming all over again.
I picked it up on a whim during a Steam sale (as of writing this, it's on sale again now - please pick it up now if you've ever considered it!) and before I knew it I'd put in 125 hours. I find it hard to put down whenever I pick it up again. It's just that good. As of today, I've only just completed the story; it's so easy to get distracted by the big open world that is packed full of detail and life.
Best part is, you can play this without having played the first game. I'd heavily recommend playing the first game either before or afterwards though - the order in which you play them could actually be done either way around, but, as RDR2 is a prequel to RDR1, playing RDR2 first will actually make the events of RDR1 make a lot more sense.
Arthur Morgan and John Marston are some of the best written video game characters in history. If you love good character development and a meaningful story, please play RDR2!
I have Played over 300 hours on this game over the course of 6 years and two different accounts. it took me till just now to finally let Arthur die.. i can say with complete confidence that this is the best game i have ever played. the story telling.. the character arcs... i have never felt such a deep investment into a character. Playing for over 100 hours refusing to progress the story because i did not want the inevitable outcome to come to fruition. to actually play a game that created such an emotional investment for me there is no rating i could give this game but 10 out of 10.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is widely hailed as one of the greatest video games of all time due to its masterful storytelling, richly detailed open world, and emotional depth. Rockstar Games delivered a cinematic experience with complex characters—especially Arthur Morgan—set in a beautifully rendered, immersive Wild West. Holy Moly this game is a 10/10, not even a hour in & I just loved it. I love western style, gun blazing, suspenseful action, beautiful landscape type of games. (This one is perfect in all attributes) Also people in game are just so perfect. Already love Arthur Morgan. Can’t wait to play more of this game & highly request it to those who haven’t played this game at all because you will automatically just adapt to this amazingly perfectly designed masterpiece of a game. Thank you to all those who have requested this game to me because I love it. Also this quote is absolute cinema iykyk “We’re bad men, but we ain’t them.”

i refunded this game because it auto logs into your rockstar account linked to the steam account, no matter how old it is or if it even exists anymore. the fact this is a common issue makes me care about GTA 6 less and less, how have they not fixed this issue? all they would need to do is give us a product code instead, but apparently doing something that easy must be such a burden on Zelnicks little hat.
avoid this game and avoid take two products, its the same company putting kernel level anti-cheat on games from decades ago, im just tired of their games and the BS that they bring along. if i want to play something by them i'll take my business to the vast open seas.
screw this company and screw this industry
Im sure its a fun game.... Hovever Rockstar Game services, and Rockstar's Launcher have prevented me from ever playing. Sick of 3rd party launchers and "social clubs' , etc that are buggy and redundant just to play a game offline.
Definitely one of the best games I've ever played, stunning graphics, smart npc, beautiful story and goddamn son of a beach micah bell. This is what I call spiritual experience, and now I can finally understand why they keep delaying the release of GTA VI, because this game is just too good too beat
Fantastic game. Story was interesting, side missions were solid. Still so much to do if I wanted to come back.
Red Dead Redemption is probably one of those games that almost everyone has heard of. Many who have played it talk about the emotional impact it had on them. For me, it helped me understand a lot about my personal life. The story this game tells is one of the best I’ve ever experienced and has captivated many people. Even in 2025, it remains a must-play. While the graphics may no longer compete with newer games like The Last of Us or Ghost of Tsushima, they still impress me today. The level of detail in this game remains unmatched. If you’re looking for a game that will not only captivate you with its story and gameplay, but also offer long-lasting playtime, Red Dead Redemption 2 might be a great choice.
Pretty much the pinnacle of modern day gaming in regards to the story, gameplay, side activities and characters. A beautifully crafted and detailed world, rich with locations to explore, collectables, ambient activities, varied wildlife and tense shootout moments you only get from Rockstar.
The multiplayer isn't great, pretty boring and not as vibrant as GTAV, but what that lacks, the single player more than makes up for it. A must buy at any time of the year.
Great 10/10 game, but seriously why does it need the rockstar launcher for single player?
it's GTA with less traffic, and your vehicles only have 1 horsepower.
Well the game and the story itself is quite interesting and indulging and when you further dwell into the story you would love the cinematic views and the various scenery.
Single Player: A video game and at times a cinematic masterpiece. Genuinely one of the top video games of all time in terms of storyline and visuals. I love the Character of Arthur Morgan and the open world that everything takes place of. I would gush about specific parts of the story but there are a ton of videos on YouTube if you're interested in plot specifics.
2025 Online mode: if you get a server that somehow doesn't have a hacker in it, it's good fun! A nice break from the story and fun with friends. But when you INEVITABLY run into a small-brained, joyless, gutless, and narcissistic hacking POS because R* doesn't give a flying fuck about policing this game for cheaters, the fun is instantly tarnished. The cheats people use currently just explode you without any warning or way to counter. It also shows no names of those who are using the mods, so good luck if you try to use R*'s official reporting website. I'm not sure what about this games online environment attracts such blood-sucking asshats but the online world is full of them.
The great shame of all of it is that there is a large portion of the player base that is just trying to extend their love of the world R* created and share it with their friends but cant because R* couldn't give less of a fuck about this player base.
In conclusion: if you're looking for an amazing single player experience that will leave you craving more even after 400 hours AND will serve you up an extra helping of the game with a nice spoonful of poison; I'd recommend RDR2
Wanted to play the game for years. I decided to finally buy when it was on sale during christmas. as I progressed through the game i knew what would come to Arthur and i thought i probably wont cry as i know what happens. But by nearing the end of chapter 6 i tried even bracing myself for his death and it still had me teary eyed. i couldnt imagine how i wouldve been going in totally blind. Probably the best story ive ever seen in any game and i genuinely dont know what can top it. even writing this 6 years late id strongly recommend
One of the best games ever made. The graphics and beautiful views are amazing. This is the only game I've ever paid full price for twice (on 2 different platforms) because I loved it so much. The story is amazing and the online mode is a lot of fun if you can avoid the hackers. Call to Arms on RDO with friends is my favorite mode. I wish they had continued to develop this game.
This game is one of the greatest. I say that with no hesitation. It was a life goal of mine to have a PC that could even run it. And I did play through it entirely. It's great.
But the Rockstar launcher is the worst I have ever seen. And you cannot play the game without it. You are required to be signed in on the Rockstar Social Club, requiring an internet connection, for a single player game. Firstly, I don't like that mindset, but even logging in has been an issue for me for over a year now.
I will open the Rockstar launcher, login, and open the game from the library. But, after opening the game, it notifies me that I cannot play the game because I am not logged in to my Social Club account. The fix? Close the game, login to the Rockstar launcher and reopen the game. And the loop continues. Countless reinstalls and updates of the launcher and my PC, verifying gamefiles, adjusting firewall and so on, have not helped. There was a period of a couple weeks where it did work and I could play the game again. But it has since relapsed, and I am tired of troubleshooting.
When it works, this game is one of the best games I've experienced. But for my case at least, the launcher is broken to the point where I don't even try anymore. Looking forward to the next time it lets me play!
Ukraine is banned from creating rockstar account without which you cannot play game. There was no message during game purchase process or on game page that mentioned that, game is available for purchase atm too. F you russian money lovers.
Online experience : cheaters, cheaters, cheaters and even more cheaters. Which also are griefers. You can report them 5 times or more, next time, sure enough, you'll still cross the path of the exact same griefing cheaters that teleport on you, make you explode or whatever their unpunished ass can think of.
Get your shit together Rockstar.
What can I say? This game belongs up into the top league of games.
It's beautiful, it has awesome characters and stories, tons over tons of places to explore and things to do.
I finished it once on the PS4 after release, but decided to give it another (or more) go on my new PC amd there are absolutely no regrets.
It's just one of those games that will never leave your memory, the story, the characters, the whole world is so real and immersive. Give me any other open world title and I'll say it's empty compared to this masterpiece, which says a lot since there's not a lot of towns here. You can feel the weight of every decision you make, good and bad. Do yourself a favor, if you haven't already, play the damn game.
A Masterpiece Abandoned by Its Creator—and Sabotaged by Its Studio
Let me be clear—Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the greatest games ever made. The world is stunning, the story unforgettable, and the level of detail borders on miraculous. It’s not just a game—it’s an experience. That’s what makes this review so disappointing to write.
Because the tragedy of RDR2 isn't what it is—it's what it could’ve become.
Rockstar built something extraordinary, then seemed to walk away from it. Red Dead Online, in particular, had the potential to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with GTA Online: a living, breathing frontier filled with emergent stories and long-term progression. But instead of support, it was left to rot. Updates trickled in, then stopped altogether. Promises faded. Communication became nonexistent. And the community, once filled with hope, was left holding the reins of a dead horse.
But worse than neglect is sabotage—and Rockstar’s modern infrastructure is just that.
The Rockstar Launcher, a needless barrier between players and the game, simply does not work. It is a disaster of its own making. Crashes, connection issues, failure to launch—even Steam users are forced to go through it. I have a top-tier PC that runs any modern title without a hitch, yet Red Dead Redemption 2 won’t even install properly anymore. I’ve tried reinstalling it multiple times. I’ve contacted Rockstar support. I’ve jumped through every hoop they offered—and still, the game refuses to function. To add insult to injury, I couldn’t even fully uninstall it without manually digging through system files. That’s not user error. That’s on Rockstar.
And let’s be honest: their technical support team was out of their depth. Generic responses, no real fixes, and a lack of accountability that borders on negligence. It's baffling that a company of this size can build something so technically brilliant—and then fail so miserably at the basic task of letting people play it.
This isn’t just disappointment. It’s disillusionment.
Rockstar Games is no longer the gold standard. It’s a trainwreck. A studio that once raised the bar for immersion and storytelling has become synonymous with silence, greed, and incompetence. Red Dead Redemption 2 didn’t fail—the people behind it did. And they keep failing.
I didn’t stop playing because the game was bad.
I stopped because Rockstar made it impossible.
The story had me hooked, the characters feel real, and the world is so detailed it’s kind of ridiculous. I lost track of time just riding around, hunting, helping strangers, or getting into trouble. Arthur is such a great character too — his story actually hit me emotionally, which I didn’t expect from a game like this.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is insane, over 150 hours in and I’m still not bored. Totally worth it.
PC controls for this game are the worst i have ever seen. It 100% kills the game for me, after trying multiple times to get into it.
This was one of my most favorite games of all time that I would play on and off and still enjoy until they added the Takes-Two agreement that literally takes over your whole system and they get a deep dive into your whole computer! I would recommend not playing any Rock Star games or 2K games cause they will be adding this to every single game involved with those companys! It's not worth it and wouldn't recommend playing until the agreement is changed and there is no takes-two!
I'm not a person who is into story games. But I still wanted to give this game a shot because many of my dear friends suggested it to me. And I am so grateful that they did. This experience was something else. An experience I never had before. Almost everything about this game was perfect. I loved the story too deeply... Fighting mechanics are just awesome... Hunting is probably better than any of the hunting games out there. I only had a few experiences with it but even then, I actually felt like I was hunting in real life. Interactions with NPCs are out of this world... They gave back stories to insignificant NPCs that you probably didn't even care about... Which in my opinion gave this game life. There are consequences for your actions. You can cause certain things to happen by making certain decisions. I never played a game that felt this alive...
The story is so well written... gets you connected to the characters, makes you bound with them. The action is awesome, all those fights I did was so much fun. I loved everything about it. And of course... the view. This game has such magnificent views. Even when you are just wandering around with your horse, you feel peace in yourself as you see the gorgeous views around you. I can tell that developers put a lot of love in this game. That's what makes the game so beautiful. I enjoyed every second of this game. And I am so glad I spent my time playing this game. This journey was something else.
If you are gonna play the game, do as much as you can. I highly recommend it. Don't just focus on the main game, go out there and meet people. It will be worth your time. Most of the time, I legit felt like I wasn't playing a game... I was living in it. This was one of the best experiences I had.
And... you're a good man Mr. Morgan. You're a good man.
At the time of writing this review, no game has ever made me feel such a wide range of emotions—happiness, sadness, and laughter. No game has ever left such a deep impression on my heart. Red Dead Redemption 2 deserves to be recognized as the game of the century.
i'm very torn on how to review this game, at times it's amazing, and other times it's a slow boring slog, it's just too much of a simulation most of the time and not enough of a video game, don't think i've played a game that has such high highs and such low lows
First 3 hours of the game is forced story which felt slow.
The 5 hours I played you were free to explore, which felt amazing.
Then the game crashed and the rockstar client refused to ever connect to the servers ever again. Forced online DRM in a single player game with the absolute worst launcher ever is a recipe for failure. The client is a minefield of problems and for some people it never even works from the beginning. I have to refund the game.
+Game is good
------------------------ Launcher is literally the worst pile of dogshit you have ever installed. Worse than malware.
Had to refund it because it wouldn't launch. Got errors. Wouldn't load. I don't know why they make you go through a third party launcher and then ends up not working. Waste of time. I love this game too, that's the sad part. I actually really wanted to play, but they need to get their crap together. I'm not going to spend money on something that doesn't work on brand new purchase. Shame. Now I don't even know if I can trust them, that's the worst part.
Yeah, the game’s got a painfully slow start—no denying that—but it’s all intentional. It’s designed to pull you into the world. I hit that same wall restarting on PS4 Pro, then PS5, and finally just muscled through it on PC. No regrets.
If I had to sum up the game in one word: beautiful. The open world is insane—nothing else really compares. Arthur? He’s a funny asshole, and somehow, you end up loving the guy. The gang’s a wild mix of people you’ll cheer for and want to punch in the face.
It’s the cowboy simulator, plain and simple.
I dont like american XIXth far west setting.
To me, most open world games feels the same and i lose interest rapidly.
Yet i love this game because it has a soul.
So I must admit I had my issues at the start with the game.
Personally I dont care much for many of the open world sandbox stuff like hunting, or robbing stagecoaches etc. Also I must admit that the whole western setting is less appealing to me personally than say your average fantasy open world setting.
But once I got passed this I was rewarded with some of the best written characters not just in gaming, but media in general. And wow, what an ending.
So if you had issues like me getting into the game, I recommend you just skip a lot of the optional side content and just keep doing the main story quest. You wont regret it.
Tried buying this since it's on sale. I launched only to find out I can't play because the rockstar launcher automatically assigned a deleted email to the account. The only way to change this email is to open an email sent to it which is literally impossible.
I won't be buying any future games from rock star and am refunding this one unless they get rid of there nonsensical drm system or at the very least make it reasonable. If I buy the game on steam let me launch in through steam why do I need to verify through your garbage launcher you don't even maintain? Probably just going to pirate this game at this point drm is lame as hell.
I can do things faster IRL than Arthur. Fuck this gameplay
Rockstar world design, atmosphere and attention to detail are unbeatable tho. Unfortunate for the gameplay
Im playing this game in a VR headset with xbox controller. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Extremely Immersive. You would not regret buying this game. Well Unless you have a life and wife and kids. you will be hooked playing this game.
Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t just a game. It’s an entire world frozen in the grit and glory of the American frontier. From its sweeping landscapes to the smallest, dust-covered detail, this is an experience that excels at every level: story, mechanics, immersion, and sheer atmosphere. The voice acting is stellar, and the immersion and emphasis on the day-to-day actions of the NPCs on this game is mindblowing. Hell, you can see NPCs actually hammering nails in, the focus on the small details is that deep.
There's also a plethora of roleplaying communities set in the world of RDR2, text and voice alike, if those are to your liking.
would be a great game if it would actually run. Rockstar seemingly has a vendetta against anyone with nonstardard hardware that wants to enjoy their games. every version ive had of this game (on here and epic) will simply refuse to start one day for no discernible reason even on a fully base freshly installed copy.
The game didn't really sit right with me until I realised that I didn't need to craft every outfit, find every dino bone and obsess over every cig card. This game made me realise that I honestly don't actually enjoy open-world games, and that's fine, because once I put aside the boring hunting and focused only on the story, I had a great adventure.
rockstar launcher sucks wont even let me load this game, tried re-installing, deleting everything relating to launcher and game, adding game and launcher to firewall exception but nothing works. was a big fan but why do these companies have to always create these horrible launcher wasted like £60 for a game i cant play.
i wouldnt be saying words for this best game ever made in the history i guess ? yes it is thanks for making this masterpiece rockstar i owe you !
I already played this game a few years ago on my PS4, so the first section of the review will cover the specifics of PC vs Console, and the 2nd part will be about the game in general.
On PC, the graphics are better, performance is better, and, dare I say, the controls are much better, except maybe for horse riding, but the game does have controller support if one wants that. I haven't had any common PC-port issues, and I know that this may also be because of the age of the game, as they've had time to fix issues, but really, it is fantastic. Mods are also (unofficially) available on PC, which means that there are even more things to do if you (somehow) get bored of the base game, or just want a change. Also, RDR Online is free on PC, which I haven't played yet, and I know that it is not well reviewed itself, but it's free, which it isn't on console, requiring a PS Plus or Xbox Live subscription, like most games.
On the subject of the game itself, it is really excellent. I haven't seen any serious bugs, and most of the bugs and crashes can be connected to mods I have installed. The game's story is fantastic, and is (in my opinion) one of the best out there. The game is long, but totally worth the time sunk into it (I have already sunk 24 hours so far on PC in the first few days). I would recommend this game to anyone who likes story-driven games, open world games, long games, western games, or all of the above (like myself), and honestly, I would actually recommend it even for people not into that stuff, as it really is amazing for everyone that's played it.
One thing I must mention, is that at first, in the prologue/first chapter of the game, it may be boring or feel linear, and that's because it is for many people (including myself the first time), but I can promise you that the rest of the game is much, much better. Don't judge the game or quit it until at least getting into the open world in Chapter 2. Oh, and I forgot to mention in my review, but the ending is absolutely fantastic, probably the best and most emotional ending of any game I've played.
The game may be old, but is totally worth it in 2025, and everyone, go out and buy the damn thing, instead of reading essay-long reviews from random people.
the game is solid and very fun or at least it was until i found out that rockstar has bound my steam account to my dead daughters email that i cant access so now i can never play any of rockstar games again so i guess im out for all rockstar products for life and every time i try to play i g et to dwell on my lost child, im not saying dont play it, cause i love the game but be very careful before you deal with rockstar
The best game I've ever played in my life. Perfect world, gameplay, voice actor, the vibes, the story, the details, all is just soo perfect. If only the mission never ended i will play forever.
Fuck rockstar and their metadata sucking launcher. Would be a great game if I could A) play the SINGLE PLAYER GAME OFFLINE and B) I wasn't forced to download a fucking launcher to play a SINGLE PLAYER GAME I purchased on STEAM.
The game can and will crash at random, whether it be a driver issue or otherwise. I do not recommend buying or playing this game if you have an AMD graphics card. None of the fixes I'd seen online work.
GPU: RX 7800XT
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
The game itself is beautiful otherwise, and is a gem.
Nothing bad to say about it other than this PC port is very poorly optimized, and for that reason, I can't recommend it under that circumstance.
