Prototype™

A really fun game, even though I seriously suck at it :-D. But it's my fault, not the game's. I first started playing on normal, but had to quit at I think around 5 missions before the end, just got too difficult. So I restarted on easy. Still barely managed to fight through it :-D. You really have to be on top of all the available powers in this game - what to use and when and what the combos are for activating different abilities. I always struggle with that kind of gameplay when you have to make decisions very quickly during combat.

Of course, that's when you want to finish the story. You can definitely just play the sidequests, gather money and go nuts freeroaming. Causing all kinds of havoc is very fun in this game.

But yeah, I definitely recommend this game, it's a lot of fun.

Edit: I saw some comments about how this game is weirdly quiet. I noticed that too. Not a very big deal IMHO, but you definitely have to crank up the volume for this game, it's kinda odd.

I played this game years ago and after seeing it in my shelf I felt the need to play the game again. Granted I had to download something to get it to work but overall the game still feels the same as it did years ago. So happy I got to play again.

It's just as good as the day I lost it.

It's a gem from the past where you play as a nigh overpowered creature, from running up buildings, shapeshifting, to turning your body into a weapon of mass destruction.
It's pretty much like those "power fantasies" you'd get as a kid.

The story is not the most exciting one, but the gameplay is just too good, even if what you're doing is freeplay. Parkour mechanics are insane and make navigating through the map a breeze, whether you're gliding from a rooftop or just charging through the streets sending everything flying away.

Combat is brutal and bloody, there's a lot of different weapons and abilities to experiment with, so the game always gives you a chance to approach it differently.

It's a good sandbox game, if you can get it working on modern devices.

The game isfantastic. It's casual, yet immersive. I find myself coming back to it several times throughout the years. I used to play in in the xbox 360, and I'm glad to have found it in steam

i almost forgot how brutal and fun this game is. get it, now that it's working fine on modern systems. you will not regret it.

Awful boss battles, but still fun.

Combat is absolute shit, you are thrown and staggered by literally everything, movement and ‘parkour’ are the worst I've seen in any game to date. Alex jumps over the smallest rocks all the time, making parkour and combat movement a hell of a challenge. Almost every soldier is running around with rocket launchers firing homing missiles. When you're being pursued by the infected, they move at the speed of light, because why not. Want to drive a 60-tonne tank? You'd better not, your vehicle will behave like a bar of soap, and literally the smallest infected that hits you can displace you and even make your tank do a barrel roll.... You can't drive and shoot at the same time, as you can control with the mouse or keyboard at the same time. Combat is chaotic and unfun, all you can do is run around and wait for your opponents to finish their hour-long combos of blows....

When you have a mission where you have to get into a tank/helicopter, if there are enemies nearby and they shoot at you and hit the vehicle by mistake, you can start the mission with the vehicle at 1/4 hp, amazing.
Enemies and bosses shoot at you and target you through walls. Elizabeth Green is literally the worst boss ever created in any game, movie or series I have seen, encountered or heard.... The worst repeatable shit I've ever had to do. Tideous as hell, go to boss, HOPEFULLY do one devastator, but not likely cause boss is spamming attacks 24/7 staggering you, there are infected that are moving with mach speed making it even harder than it already is, run back, heal up from infected, repeat.... This boss also shoots rocks into the sky and this attack seems to have no limit, you hardly see the boss and they keep hitting you, and guess what, he spits them 24/7 so it's almost impossible to jump on him from above, and when you try to run up to him normally you get spammed with other attacks and end up with low hp within seconds....

Enemies respawn endlessly, it puts enemies right in front of your eyes >.> In one mission I spent 20 minutes running on rooftops and killing Blackwatch soldiers who spammed me with rocket launchers 24/7. I couldn't even heal properly because of the amount of rockets that followed me.... Boss-like enemies have a horrible hitboxes, you're constantly getting hit from afar, and the clumsy movement doesn't help with dodging, and given that dodges have no iframe, fighting them is even worse. I literally spent every boss fight throwing objects at them and running around, catching other enemies to heal so I wouldn't die from 3 hits.... The final boss is just rubbish and horribly designed. You fight him alongside an army, but most of the soldiers and helicopters will still only attack you, they don't care that a huge alien is attacking everything, they will focus on you....

I have never shouted so much in anger and hit my desk as I did while playing this game. Very unpleasant experience, and i hope Prototype 2 is alot better >.>

This game was better than Spiderman 2 15 years prior

Fantastic game, won't run on modern computers without messing around with config files.

AVOID. Unable to play unless you limit the Cores to 4. Sound issues in cut scenes. Game audio makes everyone sound like they are on helium. Games should play without needing to change these sorts of settings. Check Reddit, posts all over about this game on Steam. I played this game on the Xbox 360 originally and looked forward to playing it on my PC. What a disappointment!

I tried twice to get into this game and failed both times. I don't know why--on paper (screenshots) it looks right up my alley. Almost like playing Venom--same open world, same alien powers. Maybe it's because I'd already played Saints Row 4, which also has a big open world with cooler graphics, cooler storyline, and cooler powers. In Prototype, it just feels like more of the same, and it feels like a chore to dodge fire from the bad guys (which is invisible--you have to keep an eye on your health bar to tell if you're going to die) and run from place to place. There are better games like this to play that don't involve having to contend with technical issues.

Good game,suffered input lag meh. If you can work around that im sure you'll enjoy playing. Still better than the sequel imo.

The game is full of bugs. I have RTX and it runs on 20 fps.

Possibly one of the edgiest games to exist without trying for it.

Loved this game as a child, loved it as an adult. Heaps of fun, though INSANELY dated and not worth it if it's your first time playing. Unless you like old games with a bunch of terrible design choices yet really interesting and straightforward gameplay.

Download the crash fix on Nexus mods if you have a not horrible computer.

So I bought this game on the rog ally Asus (its basically a steam deck) and I'm having some trouble loading in the game and do not know how to fix it

alr, if you are willing to jump through some hoops to get the game running well on pc, then the game is awesome. literally one of the best open world sandboxes i have ever played. plus you can eat people with your body.

Dumb fun - but a product of its time. The story is fine, but I felt like it went on for too long and didn't have much to say after the halfway mark.

Such a fun game, they really don't make em like this anymore.

Crashes instantly with a Win11 PC with 4070ti, can't be played. Steam refused to refund so make sure you avoid this product like the plague and fuck steam for selling it knowing it doesn't function.

Despite the janky physics, terrible dialogue, half-baked story, cringe characters, horrible compatibility with modern PCs and unexplainable high price for a 2009 game, Prototype manages to be fun as hell. I recommend getting it on sale if you have patience to fix the technical issues.
