Haven't played this game since I was little! still just as fun
Childhood game, 10/10. Recommend.
For when you need to take a step outside your door into a nostalgic Halloween knight in small town USA.
It's actually a pretty fun RPG and I really like collecting stuff like Costume (armor) sets with wildly different bonuses in games in general but the game really did feel quite short with an abrupt ending. A gem that can be appreciated by all ages!
Everything about this game was great except for the combat- the combat was boring and repetitive.
Costume Quest has been a game that's been on my back-log since I were a kid. Only recently has it appeared back into my thought process, and such I have gone off and bought it to tick another off my list.
I'll start by saying that it's a game full of charm that has quite a few gags that are particularly adult-oriented (like the secret password being Manifest Destiny), an adorable art style and a certain feel of shenanigans.
I will also say, I feel as if the combat gets a bit too lame? It feels more like you're just constantly stat-checking the enemy, and the variety of Battle Stamps you can unlock in-game don't actually amount to anything other than "it's another passive" outside of the few stamps that stun.
Such a fun game. Cute humor and easy game play while still keeping things interesting and engaging.
I mean from what I remember from playing on PS3 back in the day, it's great. My PC won't run in for some reason but my pc isn't great either so. Anyway i highly recommend it, as long as this is just a problem with my computer and not he game. Weirdly though, the sequel runs perfectly fine.
Timeless game. Great combat mechanics and an amazing story.
Simple and casual game. The costumes mechanic is fun, but the combat is repetitive.
In my opinion it's better than Costume Quest 2.
A delightful game that focuses on the fun of trick or treating with a twist that fits the season. This is very nostalgic for me, it reminds me of my childhood and the 90's without needing to make direct references to anything. It is well crafted but simple. One thing it has more than anything is love for Halloween and charm.
A simple RPG taking place during Halloween with powers themed around costumes
ton of fun, dumb jokes that get a laugh, easy recommend
the idea is cute but the game felt a little clunky and i didn't really enjoy it too much - currently only playing to get some more achievements as i like to have a higher completion percentage.
A fun adventure of kids fighting evil like superheroes, or more like other iconic characters for Halloween
this game is fun as fuck, even though it came out in 2011 it's still so much fun to play
This is a very charming game. The writing is definitely where this game shines. It's one of the only wholesome games you can play during Halloween. The writing of very funny but not adult jokes supports that and it has a very good and nostalgic Halloween vibe to it all. Also, the characters while not extremely memorable are funny and add a lot through (Once Again) the game's great writing.
One of the things I love the most about this game is the fact that it's a game you can play during Halloween where you don't have to scare yourself shitless to do so. It's very fun and very wholesome. The atmosphere of these places to trick or treat is very fun have a nice childhood vibe to them, and have more decorations than any town you'd see IRL. (Which is great)
The gameplay is a part of the game I was overall less of a fan of but it was not that bad as the game is not too long so it never got boring, the repetitiveness of it did get to me a tiny bit, but I think they did a good job building the mechanics around this base idea of kids turning into their costumes. It is very serviceable for the game.
Overall very fun and spooky (in a wholesome way) experience. (8.7/10)
A short but fun RPG that isn't too difficult but has loads of charm and creativity.
peak halloween vibes. play this in october, grab yourself some pumpkin cider, and enjoy being a kid again.
There's not a great deal going on here, but sometimes that's OK. It's a good introduction to the turn-based RPG.
My daughter's a fan. She's 6. So it's not really aimed at me, it's aimed at her, and that's fine.
Older game that's showing it's age, but a very charming halloween rpg. Wish we would see a remaster or some QoL improvements. But still a great game that deserves a lot of praise, especially with the costume/rpg mechanics.
Costume Quest is a lighthearted Halloween RPG featuring turn based combat, multiple classes, combat modifiers and a charming story. The game is fairly simple yet entertaining with a story that reminds me of early 2000s cartoons. Great game for kids!
What a cute game this is! I basically grew up with this game, so I HAD to get it for my PC now. It’s always been a part of my Halloween season to play this game every year. It gets you into the Halloween spirit just by the opening screen. Every single little detail of this game is spooky. Filled with bats, pumpkins, and loads and LOADS of candy.
I usually don’t care for the type of game where it’s battle after battle. This game makes it very enjoyable though with the storyline and quests on the side. It just gets you into this chokehold of trick or treating door to door until you can save your little sister/brother (whichever you choose).
I love the storytelling and humor of this game! It's super cozy, has a unique and creative concept, and full of adorable Halloween vibes that take you back. The writing made it really enjoyable even as an adult - but it's also very appropriate for younger gamers.
The world is fun to explore while completing puzzles and quests, and the battle animations are majestic. The battles themselves are not too hard (and not always very easy either), and there isn't any "failure" - just "try again".

Really cute and fun, and pretty long for a kid's game, but I think it's still good.
A simplified turn-based RPG with a fun holiday theme. There's really not much to it, but it's a very cute and fun game.
Simple, cute, funny, nostalgic (in multiple ways), short, much needed on a bad day around spooky season. Makes me want to break out the arts and crafts and watch family halloween movies with my siblings. This is the halloween vibe I prefer to straight up horror, it's fun and whimsical, spooky not scary. There's not much reason to use any costumes in combat outside the first three you get unless you just want to change things up or forgot to switch costumes, but that's a nitpick.
This is one of those games that I got for cheap in some bundle or something years ago and sat in obscurity until finally I got around to actually playing it. Awesome little turn based RPG. Played it leading up to and on Halloween, had a blast. It's short but sweet. Great for completionists. 👍
Plan on playing the sequel in like manner next season. Expecting good things.
It's halloween as i'm playing it right now and it's amazing! Not playing it for long and it's already so adoring, charming, cozy and funny! Nice little Turn-based Fights and interactions/skills on the overworld. Recommended for sure
I love this game. It's quite short (like some have pointed out) but it's a nice, simple game with a slight challenge to it as well with the combat and secrets. I highly recommend it, especially if you like cute spooky stuff that aren't very scary. it reminded me of Deathspank a bit too, so if you like that game, try this one.
Xbox one controller PROBLEM:
I'm having trouble getting my controller to work (Xbox one controller). I've tried every input through steam and the game is supposed to work with a controller (though perhaps an Xbox 360 controller is recommended), but I can't do anything in the game, not even maneuver the menu. But it works on the computer in general so I know that my controller isn't the problem. I REALLY want to play it with a controller since that's the way I played it as a kid and I think it would be easier to play it with a controller rather than the keyboard. I've tried anything I can think of so it's a shame that it didn't work for me.
Still love the game.
Amazing quick Halloween game that gets you right into the spooky mode!!
funee trick or treet gmae
This is a childhood favourite game and I'd never change a thing about it. While the battle mechanics can get boring or repetitive at times, they were quick enough that it didn't matter. The plot it hilarious and I found dozens of jokes that I never picked up on as a child that made me grin and laugh like a loon because this game is really quite perfect.
This is an amazing cute cozy game I love to play every October!
fun
It's a fun albeit short game. The RPG elements in it are pretty light, but enough fun to experiment with. I completed the Main Quest in about 9-10 hours. Not all that deep, but the characters you can fight as are fun to use.
Charming game. Made me laugh a few times too. Battles might be repetitive but it's a short game. Finally finished the game after how many years in the backlog.
gets you in that Halloween mood!
Costume Quest has always been a special part of my life. I grew up watching my dad play it, and now that I get to experience it myself, I love it even more. Every October, it’s become a tradition for me to dive back in, and it never gets old. This game is worth every penny, and I honestly can’t put into words just how much it means to me.
The keyboard controls leave something to be desired, but the story is fun and the costume-based combat was quite original for its time
Simple and fun. Nothing too much to write home about, but it is a nice short game to enjoy during the spooky season. Give it a try, what's four hours of your time? You're gonna spend that time death scrolling TikTok anyways.
super cute game, the controls kind of hurt my hands... switching the interact and hit keys felt a lot better though! glad i remembered i had this game in time for october!
A proper Halloween classic, brimming with Double Fine's signature charm, that serves as a welcome diversion from the season's typical horror offerings. The combat isn't very deep but that's no issue here as the game is just the right length for a fast playthrough. The DLC is a nice bonus too.
My tradition every October during the Old Hallows Eve season is to play Costume Quest 1 & 2.
Probably one of the best games you could play during Halloween month. Is just simple yet fun and extremely soulful. The credits of the game are pics of the developers as kids wearing their Halloween costumes- that's a kind of fun you don't see in games a whole lot.
Simple but fun game.
BONITA
Holy moly this game is good. It holds up extremely well in 2024. A terrifically cute Halloween themed RPG with all of the stylings of a Double-Fine Production game.
I feel embarrassed for not having played it until now but I'm glad I finally got around to it.
I've had this game in my library since 2011... I figured 13 years later I should probably give it a try.
It was an extremely charming game, with fun writing, and a ton of imagination. Yes, combat can be a little tedious at times, but it wasn't an overly long game to make it much of an issue.
Also, a fairly easy game to 100% if that's your thing.
