Описание

Gloomwood is a stealth horror FPS that follows your mysterious abduction to a forgotten, twisted Victorian metropolis in the midst of a horrifying transformation. Wield your canesword and take to the shadows as you uncover the accursed mystery hidden within the fog.

The producers of DUSK, AMID EVIL, ULTRAKILL and FAITH bring you a frightening, gothic immersive sim full of haunted streets, dark tunnels and decadent mansions.

  • An intricate, hand-crafted city with freeform exploration - from towering rooftops down to hidden passages, the routes you take and paths you make, are your choice.
  • A detailed stealth and sound system that tracks your light visibility and propagates noise accurately through the world. Tread lightly. Or prepare to get loud.

  • A unique arsenal to meet any situation - a stealthy canesword, six-shot revolver, folding shotgun, hand-placed traps, rope-slinging harpoon rifle and more.
  • In-depth player interactivity, from leaning to eavesdrop, peeking through door cracks, checking the bullets in your firearms and mantling onto ledges.

  • A mob of ghastly denizens and monsters with acute senses, like the sharp-clawed Crowmen and the fearsome, cadaver-seeking Corpse Duster.
  • Gloomwood is full of objects to pick up, throw, climb, smash and use to your advantage.
There is more to this city than you can possibly imagine...

Easily one of THE best indie games I have ever played, the rhythm of the game never gets old and stays feeling fresh and fun throughout the game. The aspects of backtracking and seeking quests never get too laborious or boring and it has just enough horror to be appetizing. One of the greatest reasons I have so much love for this game is its almost nostalgic feel, it reminds me of times when i was younger playing through Castlevania and Bioshock. Its reminisance of these games makes it feel new while also having familiar elements of some of the most acclaimed games of all time. It is one of the greatest games put out by any modern publisher, and I have no doubt is better than any game being put out by Billion dollar publishers today.

As great game to bring back all those nostalgic feelings, if you grew up playing those old school RPG's. i was immediately drawn in by the graphic design of GloomWood and new it was gonna give m exactly what i was looking for. its a great game because if you're like me, its gonna scratch that itch that no game in its genre, has been able to for many years. GloomWood does a really great job at making you think you're playing an old game, with that feeling you've always wish you could have, just one more time again.

great game, it's like a mix between resident evil and thief.

starts off VERY stealth oriented, but the further you get the more tools you unlock allowing you to face problems head on as well.

The only issue I have with it is it isn't finished yet. I really enjoy how I find a new thing every time I run through or find a more efficient route.
Look if you're into immersive sims with item permanence you'll love this.

This game is amazing, i love its atmosphere and mechanics but the woodsmen feel quite blind and dumb at times and the sword maybe needs a slight buff. But when i like this game this much when it's not even finished you know you have a gem although starting a new playthrough every update sounds VERY unappealing is it possible to update my old files, cause honestly i think I'll just wait.

Great game, really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to an analogue of the "Moss Arrow" I personally missed it in certain moments.
I played on the penultimate difficulty and managed to save ammo very effectively. As a result, at the hive level, the game turned into a 100% shooter. I killed every monster I encountered without using stealth at all, and by the time I completed the level, I still had plenty of ammo left. Perhaps it would be worth reducing the amount of resources available at the hive.

Love it

There is only a portion of it available during early access but what it has is so dense with content that it can offer tens of hours of gameplay already

Stealth, action, atmosphere and a total lack of HUD elements helps to immerse yourself into a harsh and unforgiving city of gloomwood

Game is difficult but is not unfair, even on a highest difficulty setting (which requires a limited consumable resource to save your game), all mistakes you make are your own fault and you learn from it

It gives you tools and offers you a wide array of options how to go about most situations, making every playthrough unique to how you want to play

Your player character is very vulnerable, making sneaking a preferable choice, but if you are well prepared, and can use environment to your advantage, you can fight through most, if not all, enemy encounters head on

Maps are created with care and detail, they look visually great and have a lot of sneaky paths with shortcuts that feel organically included

Physics, sounds and light all are convincingly integrated into gameplay mechanics, shadows let you hide from enemy sight, while sound created from physical objects can attract their attention

Remember doctor - darkness is your friend

Buy it. If you like video games - you will love this game, especially the action or survival horror ones. The only precaution I would note, is that it might be a bit scary for some.
P.S. Don't worry about taking a wrong route, or doing something the wrong way, because this game is an immersive sim at it's finest. Have fun.

Fun stealth/horror game. Definitely worth playing if you enjoyed Dishonored or the older Thief games.

Pros:
- Level design is excellent, with many paths, secrets, and strategies. Opening up shortcuts as you progress is also a lot of fun. Really enjoyed exploring the levels and finding the secrets.
- Stealth is fun
- Experience of collecting loot is highly rewarding- both because there is very little loot, and because your tiny inventory space means you have to constantly prioritize what to keep.
- Combat is generally pretty enjoyable. Sword fighting is very evocative of Thief- the (only) effective strategy is lunging forward and back. The guns are over-powered but ammo is kept rare to compensate.

Cons:
- Setting is extremely derivative. The "Victorian city with a plague" setting is so generic and derivative that Dishonored (2012) and Thief (2014) both *accidentally* used the identical setting. And for reasons that cannot be explained this game chooses to use it too. Can someone make one of these games in a city where a plague isn't going on? :)
- Story seems to be mostly non-existent thus far.
- Maybe it's better at the highest difficultly levels but I found the AI to be pretty dumb. Once you're hidden in darkness there's pretty much zero chance they will ever locate you, especially if you climb on anything.
- Graphics could be better. I know they're going for a Thief (1998) era look- but even that game looks better than Gloomwood these days with the graphic overhaul.
- The lightgem ring is silly; you can see with your eyes if you're in shadow, the ring adds nothing.
- While this game brings the floor-noise mechanic over from Thief- it is almost never used outside of the tutorial area. Almost everywhere else you go will have only a single type of floor that you are required to walk on.
- There really needs to be GUI for your health. Having to open up the journal to check if you're injured is lame.
- Not a fan of the woodsmen enemies (the vast majority of the enemies in the game right now). Their eyes both showing alert status and cone of vision really dents the immersiveness.

Though the headline claim I'd repeatedly heard about this game is that its inspired by Thief- it really reminds me much more of Dishonored- killing enemies via combat is a major part of the game- whereas in Thief being non-violent is literally required at high difficultly levels. Also, like Dishonored, loot is entirely optional in this game. Not that that is a bad thing- just something to note.

Overall, if you're a fan of stealth games I'd highly recommend. The only caveat is that it's only about 20% finished- and given the current pace of progress I'd estimate at least another 10 years to completion.

immersive cane sword is unironically some of the most thoughtful, realistic disability rep i've seen in a game. making the primary melee a mobility aid is based af and it's used to make the game, you guessed it, MOOOOORE IMMERSIVE!!! many many other good things to say but that's the most important one to me at this moment. this game really brings back a lot of my fondest memories of some of my favorite games over the years, but moreso for the feeling of magic and wonder than any specific content. it feels fresh and unique. keep it gloomin brothers

In all honesty, this is probably one of my favorite games as of right now and probably will stay that way. The game in its current form and with The Hive being added, it's pretty good. Although it is still in early access, and may not be worth the entire $20 right now. Although, I've been able to get sufficient entertainment from it even before the new update. There definitely is some jank in the game, but it's nothing too game breaking from what I've experienced myself. I'd say get it if you want to support the developers, or wait if you feel like the current amount of content isn't good enough.

(Also, as John Gloomwood said: "I'M GLOOMING!")

Game is inconsistent in the worst way possible, in that in which it makes gameplay insuferable for player. For example cane and lamp are items that don't take any space in your tiny suitcase, flare gun, harpoon gun, and any other gun take space in inventory, what logic is that? Thief let you have all tools available without doing such stupid distinctions, so if not in the suitcase, then where does doctor hide his cane and lamp when not using it? Why can't he put flare gun OR tens of little gems, golden watches and other loot items like this there? If small gems that you can sell for cash really need to take up space in your suitcase then why money not? We can carry thousands of coins (I don't know where) but not 10 of stupid gems (if you want to carry any weapon, or syringe, etc. at the same time. Also another genius idea is making "quest" items like elevator buttons, cranks and valve wheels take space in your tiny, cramped inventory, and those don't take small amount, for wheel or crank you gotta have 2 x 2 free space in inventory, so when carrying weapons like shotgun which reguire 4 horizontal spaces it is borderline impossible without needing to do what every player loves that is backtracking (especially when we walk so slow like in here) If cranks really need to take space in inventory then so should keys or seals. Whole idea of making games absurdly realistic when it comes to carrying limits is best way to ensure torture and suffering for people who will have to constantly decide on every corner what item to leave and what to keep, and then bakctrack miles to get it back, it's video game it doesn't need to be realistic when it comes to aspect that make gameplay a chore, or if you want to be realistic make every item we have to take space including money, keys, etc. but then good luck with playing it. I'm not gonna dwell on obvious aspect of this game costing too much over it's actual worth, early access state. +10 years old thief fan missions which everyone can play for free feel more lively and dense with detail and atmosphere over gloomwood, which feels just empty, even when there's 6 enemies around, or when you are walking through city, it feels liveless, sterile and empty, nothing from areas, places, hidden lore has made too big of impression on me, it all feels shallow and boring, nothing really beneath this interesting style and atmosphere compared to thief. Also lighting is completely broken when it comes to this game premise. In thief we have to use stealth for our advantage, we have to stay in the dark so that our enemies don't see us, thing is, we can see in perfect shadows without much problem, even in darkest places one can distinguish lines and shapes, colours, in gloomwood no, if place is dark you won't see anything without a lamp there, it's complete black. Now how are you supposed to use darkness and shadows for stealth when you can't see shit? Use lamp? Oh but it will instantly reveal you to the enemies. Maybe walk and use lamp for 1 second and hide it again just to have a little peak at what's in front of your nose? But that's absurd way to play a game, more akin to some trick, exploit. If it would be possible to see in the dark (not perfectly but still see enough to be able to tell where are you going) like in thief or like in amnesia where your eyes get used to darkness after moment so you see better it wouldn't be a problem, but right now this game is neither for stealth nor for gun blazing style, because darkness and shadows aren't really your friend and advantage here, because you are completelly blind there, your enemis though, they can find you if they bump into you, so at the time of traversing those "brilliant" sewer mazes with crows it was feeling like a bad joke, if anything they are less blind in the darkness than we are, and that's great in stealth game, isn't it? AI is woodeen and terminator like at the same time, and it is always interesting to see how after 26 years people can't even copy same level of quality thief ai and sound design had in 1998. Also it's nice that leaning mechanic is completely pointless because it exposes you to the light so what's the point? I also experienced in some completely dark areas funny situation where when I was standing still I was in complete darkness but when moving instantly becoming full bright. Also fight is wooden and broken which in pair with broken stealth makes it a no-win situation, everyone is faster than you for some reason and enemies can hit you even if you managed to step back far away enough so that their swings shouldn't affect you all while their attack animation is still playing, so actually seems to matter is not how far you are when enemy finishes his attack animation but how close was he when initiating attack, it's weird and feels broken. Also enemy attacks like axe swings can go through walls, if you are close enough. Game isn't fun enough to endure it considerin there isn't really much substance it offers as a reward of sticking around despite torturing gameplay, maybe it will look completely different in the future when it will be finished, I hope so, but it already took many years already and fact it costs so much is absurd. Can't recommend it as of now, go play thief fan missions instead, they are free and ten times better at everything.

Hits the Thief spot often and dead center... with some welcomed creative licence. Hope that's what you came here for, it's what the world needs more of.

A difference: I enjoy how combat is a viable option for those who would have otherwise had to play on less than master difficulty in the game that this is a tribute to. It is satisfying to rampage every other play through on the hardest mode.

We especially need a New Game Plus (+) now that there is an upgrade worth keeping around. It would be quite handy to NG+ as your saves will break from time to time with some updates.

I enjoy a good save breaking update, as you often get a good amount of content, but also because this is the type of game that I would play through several times for 100%, speed running or just to take in the well thought out design elements like the maps or just flair like the subtle yet flavorful dialogue and voice acting.

I do love the atmosphere. It's still glitchy; I've gotten trapped in the graphical environment twice and once fell over an edge but survived to find no way back. Had to reload. Sometimes the AI is dense as all get out, other times the Plague Ridden are merciless hawks. It's uneven in feel. Definitely need to go carefully at first.

I really want to like this game but you move so painfully slowly, it is absolutely miserable to walk around (which you have to do a ton of as you have to backtrack constantly. the game suggests holstering to move quicker but it is maybe a 25% speed boost, which is still very very slow. just add a sprint button, its 2024, i don't want to spend 10 minutes walking back and forth after every bit of combat, it is just a waste of my time. make the sprint insanely loud or something to discourage doing it anywhere near enemies, but having to spend literal minutes to walk back to the save spot/next combat encounter is shitty

Gloomwood is an... Interesting game. It's been in development for years, and about less than a fifth of the game has been completed. Pretty much, only the first "act" of the game is finished, yet I've been able to put more time in this than some AAA games. It's inspired by multiple games, and you can clearly see its inspiration from other games in other genres such as THIEF, Resident Evil, and Bloodborne, yet actively saying that this game is just these three mashed together would be a disgrace to just how masterfully made it is. It has an amazing art direction, fully making the city itself feel dream-like, balconies leading nowhere, buildings impossible to get to, with amazing ambiance and atmosphere to go with it. The game's story is a little weak right now, and it only has three voice actors so far. The gameplay and exploration aspects are top notch, taking advantage of it's dream-like design by making the map sprawling and difficult to fully open and clear, yet easy to get though if you look carefully. Even after 49 hours on the game's hardest difficulty, I still haven't found as many secrets as I could be. I liked the way the game handled its difficulty settings, it having its own intended difficulty be almost the most difficult one, but making the other difficulties to less be about a challenge and more about having fun with the tools the game gives you. As a few complaints, though. On the game's hardest difficulty, Blood Moon, you can only save with wax cylinders at specific save spaces, akin to Resident Evil. I found this system to be a little too shoehorned in, as the game doesn't work well with limited save slots at all. You won't be saving often in this game unless you're quite literally returning to a safe zone after every area you clear, which is more difficult and time wasting than just pushing forward. Because of the game's lack of backtracking areas for puzzles, and having enemies actually come back, if you clear an area completely you are given no reason to save. In Resident Evil, the entire game is dangerous, and you can't rely on your skill to clear through the mansion completely. You have to choose which areas you want to keep safe in the mansion, as you don't have a lot of supplies. In Gloomwood, however, you don't have to really choose what areas you want to keep safe as your starting weapon is the most powerful one in the game, requiring no supplies to use. You don't have to fire a single bullet at an enemy in this game if you don't want to, the only usage for guns being if you somehow get spotted. It's a stealth focused game, and the only times I found true difficulty in it was when these safety nets were almost completely useless in some areas. I also found the inventory system to be... Limiting. I liked having to choose what items I wanted to keep with me, and what I wanted to leave behind... But that's it. That's all the inventory system really is, just a choice on whether or not you want to leave the fun items behind. In Resident Evil, again, you had to make careful decisions on what you wanted to take with you. You could choose to be greedy, venturing out into dangerous areas with only puzzle items, or you could play it safe, clearing out enemies with the little supplies you had, but you couldn't be safe forever. You don't have unlimited ammo, and your knife is terrible if you're not a knife-only speedrunner. You had no reason to take the unlimited ammo weapon because it was terrible for clearing out areas, but in Gloomwood, it's your most powerful weapon that you have no consequences for using. Instantly killing enemies with your Canesword isn't difficult at all, they just can't be actively chasing you. It's gotten to the point where I am on a Blood Moon playthrough, in one of the hardest areas in the game, overflowing with ammo. Backtracking in this game is also, actively discouraged due to the inventory system. Why get so much ammo, you can't put it in an item box for safekeeping and later retrieval, and you're already got a lot of ammo! Guns aren't even useful, it's a stealth game. The only reason to actually use guns is if you can't play stealthily, which... Why would you play a stealth game? Infact, you are actively encouraged to be as stealthy as possible. Using guns as your first option is an awful idea, it brings enemies to you, and if you're not careful you can have the entire map attempting to kill you. Speaking of the enemies... They're a bit dumb. They can't see more than six feet in front of them if you're not running, yet crouching and slow walking on a metal surface can alert enemies floors below you? Their "searching" mode is slow, and sometimes you want them to break patrol to search for you because of how nearly terribly easy it is to lead them away, yet if they begin chase with you, they quite literally gain wallhacks. They will know exactly where you are, even if you make enough distance to scale half the area. The only way to escape a chasing enemy is by cheesing them, or shooting them. Even if you to manage to shoot them, you'd need to actively prepare for combat before you even get spotted, as most enemies are able to chase you down easily. There's not a lot of reason in using guns at all, the most useful gun being the 'multitool' weapon. I wouldn't recommend buying the game if you're not okay with playing it in a very, very early state. Each major update completely breaks your save, so I wouldn't even recommend playing it until the next major update, I'd say. I would absolutely recommend if you're okay with a little frustration every now and then, and confusion on where the hell you're even supposed to be. It's an amazing game with a lot of potential, and I don't regret buying it since I can put an extra 20 hours into the game with each major update. Again, larger than some AAA games out there. Buy the damn game, it's only 25$ in the US.

A wonderful combination of survival horror with classic stealth gameplay like the old Thief games. Combined with the amazing inventory system and all the game elements built into the game world, it creates a really immersive and awesome experience. Highly recommend.

Gloomwood is such a unique experience. The atmosphere and visuals are beautiful. The world really feels "alive," with all the unique interactions you can have with not just the NPCS but with the environment itself. The gameplay mechanics are also incredibly charming, and it's clear a lot of love has been put into this game. It's really good. I recommend anyone with even the slightest bit of interest to give Gloomwood a go.

Gloomwood (5/12/24, hive update) is a bona fide masterpiece.
A tour de force of storytelling, gameplay, level design, it makes me sad we didn't get that sooner. Because by now there would be more to play. My only complaint is the fact that it isn't finished- with only the prelude area, the Coast and Fishery and about 1.5/5 of the games 'Districts', its going to end development any time soon.

Deeply intertwined and interesting worldbuilding and lore, amazing versatility to your toolkit that allows you to approach the games varied combat scenarios in a plethora of different ways, and gorgeous custom lighting paired with a distinct visual style make Gloomwood one of the greatest games of all time.

But you should still wait. I'm not going to- I'll play the updates as they come out, but if you haven't bought Gloomwood yet, hold off until its at least nearly finished. Experiencing this game for the first time, from start to finish will be an unforgettable experience. So don't squander it.

As someone who loves immersive sim as well as stealth games, this game scratches an itch that other games don't really scratch. Don't let my low hour count fool you, the game is spectacular and challenging in a good way. There is a bunch of love in this game and it shows through the updates by the developers and the attention to detail they put in. Definitely a recommend for me!

This game seems really sweet. I'm super into the vibe, and it touches on pretty much my favorite genres. So I do think Gloomwood is absolutely something I'll end up loving and recommending... but not right now. Coming into it two years after early access, I noticed some immediate problems. Leaning, one of the most crucial mechanics in an immersive sim, just gets you spotted. You can be far away, in pure darkness, and if you lean the guards WILL see you. It's not too bad, you can fight them pretty easily and it doesn't really hinder progress... but just looking in the community discussion, this has been a thing people have talked about since early access launched two whole years ago, with a Dev response that they'd be fixing it nearly as long ago as that.

That's kind of the whole reason I decided to move on. Lot of big promises, not a lot of delivering on those promises. The most recent update was promised around Halloween. Then it was promised before Stalker 2. Then it was promised before thanksgiving. It's still not out, and the Devs have all but admitted to putting down their work to play video games (Stalker 2). Even if the update drops next week, they missed their goal by a whole month with not really any reasons given beyond... well they really wanted to play video games.

It seems like New Blood is a talented studio that struggles to actually hit their goals and their promises, and if you want to give them money off the promise they show, I do understand that. I'm just not big on the early access model personally. I will 100% come back when, or really if, Gloomwood manages to be content complete and patched up. It seems really promising. Until then, I won't be waiting around and I'd advise others who don't have the patience for early access to just do what I do, put the game in your wish-list, forget about it for a few years, and check back around 2027.
