Hades II

The first Hades was a gaming masterpiece and this one offers new creative ways to gain strength and destroy your foes with an exciting combination of magic and weaponry. they bring back some old classic characters and introduce new fun and entertaining ones. I'm absolutely in love with both Hades games! Supergiant Games did it again. I just wish Ares was in this version. His boons were the most brutal!

Melinoe > Zagreus and it isn't even close.

Hades I combat > Hades II combat and it isn't even close.

Some people are trying to compare their maxed Hades 1 character to a fresh character in a completely new game. It's not 1 to 1 mechanics to the first game, which imo is a plus. It is a new protag with a unique personality and fighting style after all.

It was a little light on lore and finished character designs and an area wasn't finished the last time I played, but that was a hot minute ago.

The game still gives me that same vibe from the first one. I'm excited to get a better look when the full release comes out!

Side note: Some boons do feel pointless to pick up rn, but I'm sure a combo will sprout from some nutcase on reddit eventually.

As a big fan of first Hades, I can just say that love this new aspects of the game, it's fresh and fun.

You also have to remember that early access is still early access, but it's definitely worth it!

great follow up to hades. Expands on a lot of the things we loved from the first game.

Basically takes everything that was fun about hades and expands it and gives you more of it while also having its own unique energy, I really like how all the areas have their own things to them but so far dont sacrifice the fast paced action and fun to be different. Personally the temple of styx was my least favourite area in the first game, cause for a little while you dont really feel like you're making progress and the enemies there aren't very fun to fight but none of the areas feel like that in this one! I think people need to remember that a sequel will not always feel the same as playing the first game for the first time, no sequel will ever be able to totally capture that feeling of discovering something wholly new and amazing but Hades 2 honestly comes damn near close.

First of all, this is a perfectly fine game as of now.

I want to say that the gameplay is not Hades in nature, mindless attacking and dashing is punished, I like that about this game. But something more important is that boons don't feel as plentiful, especially on your first few runs because resources is all you need at that point, you don't feel as strong because even coins are rarely seen.

The weakest part of this game unfortunately is the story, the dialogue feels extremely lackluster at times. In the first game I even loved hearing the Narrator talk, but characters are either one-dimensional or don't have much to say, with the exception of people in the Crossroads and Chronos. I wanted to play this game because of the story and I felt very disappointed. It is entirely possible that I had high expectations for this game but who wouldn't.

This should probably go into the gameplay paragraph above but [minor edit, i was complaining about the lack of duo boons but uh, they exist I just haven't run into one by now]. Also, some boons and especially Daudelaus hammers feel either very weak or unreasonably strong, but I will let it slide because it's in early access and I can recall balancing being done already on this game.

Some minor things that bother me are listed below
- The new Chaos, he suffers from the lackluster dialog but here I want to mention his new look, I don't like it, too fancy.
- The enemies in Erebus sometimes feel overwhelming, the Shrieker especially moves too fast.
- It could be made clearer what changes were made to the Dash, especially sprint, it took me until I unlocked the dual sickles to figure out you could sprint.
- Infernal Cerberus has way too much health and also punishes melee builds very very hard.
- Shopping for new weapon aspects is way more difficult and convoluted than it needed to be, why aren't all the Axe aspects together? Why are selecting, buying, and upgrading aspects all in different places? It should've been more like the first game.

Other than that, the game pretty good, I just wish the dialogue was better.

What an absolutely brilliant game, muched improved but still the same compared to the first game. Hades series but one and 2 have definitely become my favorite game ever. Hope in the future they came create a game like this with the Egyptian Mythology. 90/100 score

Incredible game and worthy successor to Hades. Supergiant's spin on Greek mythology and their interpretation of its gods feels fresh and innovative in a way so much modern media protraying them doesn't. And the game play is so good and so addictive.

Loved the first Hades, and I genuinely feel that this is a strict improvement. The sprint mechanic leads to much more interesting gameplay than dash-spamming in the first, and the new combat mechanics for Mel are a nice change from Zag. Obviously there's still more to come, and I'm quite excited. I dropped like 30 hours on this as soon as it released.

Loved the first game, and they did not disappoint on this one. I find it an improvement in almost every way, except I find this one much easier. Great job so far and looking forward to more content.

Takes a while to get used to the new combat system, but then you realise it's better than Hades 1.

Its different from Hades, less focused on melee combat. Instead its more about ranged spell synergies.

The first one was better, dont like the new weapons as much and the story is not as good. Would still recommend, 7/10. That being said, the game is still in eary access.

Once again another game that delivers on every front. If you liked the first Hades you are gonna fall in love with this one. The easiest way to explain it is just the first game with more in every aspect, more enemies, more dynamic combat, more interactions with characters, its everything that the first game wishes it was. I think the best part is that between how the new combat system works, and the new boons you get from the Gods, that the game feels more dynamic when playing it. The new boons enable new playstyles on established weapons which is refreshing if you've been playing Hades for a while now, but also enable you to get more creative. In the last game it felt like you had to pray a hammer showed up for your build to feel distinct, Hades II new magick bar lets you experiment with each weapon in a way that each run truly feel unique. I believe that even just in its developmental stages Hades II clears the first Hades in sheer gameplay alone, and considering the way the story is laid out right now, that it absolutely will clear the first games narrative when its finished.

This is a great game that i have had no problem sinking 90 hours into great art work characters are fun.

Great rouge like so far tons content fun combat and upgrades and great combination of weapons and skills to customize your play style.

the perfect balance of familiar & new mechanics keeps the game fresh and just as fun as the first. melinoe is a great follow up to zagreus as the protagonist. no traitor to the house shall go unpunished!

Insanely fun game! It's still Hades which I love but it feels really fresh thanks to the magicks/omega attacks and new weapons that play totally different thanks to the new mechanics. I played Hades I a lot but still lost my first run fairly early since the new weapons play completely different then what I'm used to but I see the appeal after playing them more(currently mostly playing the first weapon since I like to get wins on a new file and am practicing it) the new gods still need some fine tuning, some feel really weak or too situational imo(like poseidon bubble for example), but maybe I just haven't used them enough yet so still not sure. I personally don't like the 3rd area since it's openness does make it fairly slow on a new file but might get better if I play more and know the layouts. I really like the crossroads since they fit perfectly to the plot. at first I didn't like it but knowing some lore and knowing that it will eventually be customizable makes it really cool. I'm still not sure if I like the resource gathering and arcana system since on one hand they give us something to do but on the other hand it adds more rng(for example if you get silver or not to get weapons) and also takes you out of the action(only very shortly but still) I also disliked the fishing in Hades I but it wasn't necessary for the casual player(I personally did fish until I finished the book and then basically ignored it after that) but it's a really small thing that I will eventually be able to skip once I have everything unlocked. I also really like the art style in this game I still prefer Hades I atm but that's probably because that's what I'm used to and I can see myself eventually liking them both equal once I have played II more. all in all a worthy successor to Hades I that I'll hopefully spend a lot of time in!

also wanted to remember that this review was done after 3 hours playtime in the early access so my opinions aren't final and I will definitely rewrite it at some point(100% sure after the game gets to version 1.0).

I really enjoyed this game. the mechanics took a second to get used to, but once you did, it became so much fun. I am really looking forward to whats coming up next.

A slower version of the first and best Hades in my opinion. I like everything about this game except game play. What do I mean by slower version of the original Hades? Double dash gone, now press button once dash, press button again and hold, run. Slower than the original. Why no separation option in controls menu for dash and run? Really irritating for me. Omega moves. Hold button again. Slows you down in game. I don't like slowing down in games. Not my cup of tea. Enemy types that slow you down. Enemy types that hex you (curse), make you slow. This game's game play really annoys me. And it's a shame. But you might like it. This is only an opinion.

Not as good as hades 1 yet, this game is more tactical. Boon powers definitely need a boost because most of them are useless. Enemies are bullet sponges unless you can manage to find damage buffs which are far and few in between. Playing on rog ally z1 extreme.

Hades I is fantastic, and Hades II is even more so. It takes the fantastic parts about the first game like the theme, music, and gameplay and refines it, making it feel cleaner. The meta-progression is way better in this one, having much more to do if you want to keep playing after beating the final boss. Even unfinished, the plot and story is pretty fleshed out and engaging. Not on par with the first in the slightest, but I hope after the full release and the new area it gets better.

TLDR: Takes Hades I and adds dozens of hours of content while keeping the core, spectacular, mechanics and ideas

great game and unique , they really put effort like their last game and it already has tons of new features , being greek i can say story is really intresting too as i expected i havent seen much of it yet tho

I don't know how they managed to make the same types of loops so unique, but they did. I never feel like I've done the same thing twice. Losses don't feel disheartening and gains feel monumental. If you liked the first game, then this is the same but more and with a little more polish.

I feel as though the other reviews already explain why the game is amazing, in ways i couldn't describe myself.
but i really loved Hades and Hades 2 did not disappoint, glad i got the game and i'm looking forward to future updates :D

Just like Hades 1, this game is SO much fun. I really love it. The game play, the story, the way the little details reveal themselves to you. I love it.

Hades 1 but with new and improved mechanics? Yes please.
The good notwithstanding there are some things I'd like to see, more enemy variety in each zone, better handling of the dagger weapons, and perhaps some more magic regardless of the randomness of the run, but otherwise a pretty solid game so far.

The game is exactly what I was hoping for and then some! Having played Hades 1 was an experience of it's own but this one, this is a big step up from the first one and I really enjoy it. The graphics are amazing. Story is perfect and the call backs to certain weapons are also there. As a mythology buff, some of the facts in both Hades games aren't 100% true, but hey there has to be some false items in order for them to make the game's story to be more interesting. Other than that, this is a solid game.

Early Access Post July 2024 patch review. Played this game for several hours and enjoying it! Definitely different from first Hades. I find the differences personally more enjoyable since if it too much like the 1st game, then I'd be bored out. The Hex ability is an interesting added touch to the attack, special, and cast. I am Hex'ing every run. My complaints/suggestions:
1.) Need more of Dora's dark dialogues/responses. I found her funny and a nice touch, I am always saluting to incite them.
2.) BUG - While using Ygnium (flames of umbral), if attacking while phase shift ends, attack speed is cut in half...and this effects stacks if you again activate phase shift and attack while phase shift ends. Total attack speed slowing effect ends once you exit the region. Rather annoying bug.
3.) Vows of forsakening...would it be possible to take away the 2 boons per region instead of per night (the boons would be re-availed upon exiting the region)? Seem a bit heavy for 2 vows slots...or perhaps increase the vow value.
4.) Can you allow selling of reagents (moss, silver, tears, etc) to the broker? I seem to be acquiring a buttload of them as I'm doing the runs and they just sitting around.

The game is amazing, in my opinion, it's better than hades 1, which is what a sequel should strive to do, and hades 2 succeeded, i can't wait for 1.0 release and the finished story, cause it's shaping to be a really interesting story. My only complain is that some bosses are way too easy, but other than that, it's an amazing game, i'd buy it and support the devs

tl;dr - Everyone is Hot: Part 2

Possibly one of the best games of all time. I normally hate repeating levels in games, but this game is engaging and feels incredible to play through a million times.

While the game is unfinished, you don't see the need for polish until well past 10 hours of gameplay. I've already put more hours into this than Space Marine 2, and for half the price.

This is in early access but it is still fun. The main thing which I assume is because of early access is some weapons are better than others, some upgrades are very overpowered while some are negative, and some of the attacks by bosses and enemies are gimmicky.

Plenty of new and interesting mechanics. It's quite fun as is, but definitely wait to buy it if you're looking for a finished game. Still offers significant hours of gameplay and story, though. I love this series!

Even in its early-access state, the game is really big!
Its super fun, the music is awesome, the gameplay feels fluid and impactful, and each weapon you can get is unique and different from one-another; while some are similar to the first game, yet not the same!

The voice-acting is splendid, and there is so much to uncover, so much lore, so many different talks.

Also you can bathe with people 12/10

Incredible game - the Hades series are in my Top 10 of all time. Such great production quality, seamless fighting execution and playability. Well done!!

In many ways its so much better then the first game so much that it even makes me wish there could someday be a Hades 3 as well (though I know it may not be realistic xd) The only thing I dont like about the game is that I am unable to pet Cerberus so please add it to the main game.

Although still in early access, its a great game. Have had a lot of fun, few bugs.

This is still early access and so we cannot even get a conclusion to the story, but despite being EA they've basically done it again. I have been playing their games since Bastion and they have only knocked it out of the park and learned with each game they make. I had my doubts about Hades 2 because the first one is a game that I would use as an example of a Pure game. The first Hades is perfect, it is challenging, it has great art/style, the story and dialogue is compelling, but most of all the gameplay is on point.

I defeated the "last boss" in Hades 2 and I can safely say they are well on their way to matching the previous game. Highly recommend it.

A perfect sequel to the original with fine tuned additions to the core gameplay of the original game. Additions that make this a fantastic example of what sequels should be. I cannot wait for full release with even more content.

Honestly, I am on the fence on recommending this game to Hades fans. I am a fan of the initial Hades and till today, I am still playing it. This game is actually fun, bigger and looks better. Kudos to the game developers at Super Giant Games. When Hades early access became available, I was super excited and bought it anyway. After about 10 hours into the game, I feel I am missing a lot from the original Hades that I liked and I find myself playing Hades even more. Some of my personal opinions on this game:
1. Gloomy story (Hades II) vs candid Hades story. The story in Hades II is kind of sad and serious, and I feel one of the things that captivated me with the original Hades is missing. I missed some of those funny conversations with the characters in game, and the narration.

2. The gloomy storyline feels a little out of place for a game like this because you really want to find out what happened to the family, which I feel is not supported by the game genre. An RPG to figure out what happened is what I think is more appropriate. So in this case, you find Hades, but what happen to the others, I am not sure how you can fnd out after defeating Chronos. May be this is still early access and I have not gotten far enough to figure out the story.

3. Overall gameplay feels slow - The lack of the dashing mechanism in Hades is strongly felt here in this game. While you can dash once and continue running, it just feels somewhat slower. Making this worst is the fact the character's damage feels somewhat weak as compared to Hades. You can become significantly stronger if you get the right Boons, but it is very unbalanced/ inconsistent. In Hades, one is also very dependent on the Boons, but even with not so ideal Boons, you don't struggle as much as in Hades II.

Overall, I think this is a great game. It may not have the graphical eye-candy like AAA titles, but the game itself is very fun, great replay value and looks great. Graphically it looks great as well. For me, it is just not as fun as the original Hades. So for those who love the original Hades games, I suggest you try before buying.

LOVE what is out so far! game is early access but is very upfront about it's progress and what updates will bring moving forward. Art is beautiful and there's lots of little jokes and so so so many details even in the stage the game is at now. There feels like there's a lot of love in this game, just like the first game and I excitedly wait for more!

only thing i dislike... Icarus is in the game lamest story/character in mythology imo but hey i just wont give them any nectar ever :-)
