Loving RoboCo so far! I've played a little bit of the campaign, but I've mostly been focusing on the sandbox mode.
First of all, there's a really good part selection. You'll find everything you'd expect from a mechanical sandbox like this such as motors, pistons, hinges, etc. Then there's the inclusion of cosmetics, an unnecessary but much appreciated addition. There are logic pieces as well, such as a variety of sensors.
In terms of gameplay, RoboCo provides some very satisfying and easy-to-understand campaign levels for you to work your way through. They essentially act as a tutorial for the game, and I suggest completing the first few levels before jumping into the sandbox (if you were planning on just playing the sandbox). Many of the levels are open-ended as well and can be solved in many different ways. And speaking of the sandbox, it's exactly what you'd expect if you've ever played something like Scrap Mechanic's creative mode or Besieged's sandbox. There are no objectives or limitations (besides the bounding box), you just build whatever you want and mess around with it. The map in which the sandbox takes place is also full of NPCs and things to interact with in case you wanted to test your bots.
Another massive feature in this game is the coding. I haven't personally messed around with it yet, but I do love the inclusion. I think that the game having its own Python API is a fantastic feature which really allows players to get super creative with their robots.
I'd also like to mention the workshop. I'm not surprised that it's there but I do appreciate it, having the ability to share your robots with other players is great.
I do have a few cons with the game, but most of them are pretty minor. The first and probably biggest one is that some parts, such as the aforementioned sensors, are locked behind coding (to my knowledge). If you don't want to use code, then you can't really use those parts, which definitely limits what you can create. You also need code to do simple "routines", like you can't have a motor turn 90 degrees, then 45 degrees, and then turn all the way back automatically without code, you can only manually turn them. The scripts also need to be opened in an external editor such as Visual Studio as opposed to having an in-game script editor. A smaller complaint I have is the lack of a controllable hinge (although that may be another thing that's code-only), hinges aren't motorized and will flail around freely. To make a motorized hinge, you need to setup an arm-like system using motors, and if you're trying to build something on the smaller end, the lack of a one-block motorized hinge really hurts the ability to do so.
Despite my few complaints, RoboCo is still a really fantastic mechanical sandbox which already has loads of content. I hope the game continues to receive content updates, I'd really like to see where they take it. Highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy Scrap Mechanic, Besieged, Plasma, etc.
Somewhat short, still has some gamebreaking bugs.
Would recommend waiting for full release or more bugfixes.
do not waste ur money, the game barely worked! After parts getting stuck constantly I got fed up and coukdnt play!
