Tight game play, fantastic music. Not much else to be said. The enemy/boss variety is definitely lacking but at a discounted price you really can't go wrong with this. Especially if you enjoy rhythm or FPS games. Easy pick up if you enjoyed BPM.
The best way I can describe this game is imagine if Doom had Devil May Cry 5's style meter.
Mecânica divertida, desafiador na medida e musicas impressionantes, recomendo!
A Rocking Concept, But Lacking Execution
While Metal: Hellsinger certainly deserves credit for trying something different in the rhythm-shooter genre, it ultimately fails to deliver a satisfying experience. The concept of combining fast-paced first-person shooting with rhythm mechanics is intriguing, and I admire the ambition behind it. Unfortunately, the novelty wears off quickly, leaving behind a repetitive and tedious gameplay loop.
The game's central "play to the beat" mechanic, which seems like a fun twist at first, becomes more of a chore the longer you play. The constant pressure to time your actions perfectly with the music's rhythm quickly turns from a thrilling challenge to a frustrating restriction. Instead of feeling like an immersive, fast-paced battle, it often feels like you're being forced to conform to an arbitrary beat, which is far less engaging than it sounds.
Additionally, while the soundtrack is packed with talented artists and a mix of heavy metal tracks, it doesn't save the game from becoming monotonous. The music blends into the background after a while, and the lack of variation in the gameplay doesn't help in making each stage feel distinct.
Visually, the game is solid, but the overall design and mechanics don't do justice to its artistic potential. There's a lack of depth in the level design, and the enemies, while appropriately chaotic, quickly become predictable. Despite the overwhelming positive reviews from others, I just couldn't find the fun in this game. The concept was great, but the execution left much to be desired.
In the end, Metal: Hellsinger feels more like a one-note gimmick rather than a fully realized experience. It's worth a shot for fans of rhythm games or heavy metal music, but for most players, it simply isn't fun enough to justify its full price tag.
A very cool game, especially if you are a metalhead you need to try
Best rythum game I have ever played because it mixes some badass kill demons gameplay with badass music and rythum. Quite literally the best combo I have ever seen, however without headphones it can be much less exciting. Especially if you dont have a good speaker or something. But hey if you have headphones then you'll have a blast for this extremely affordable price! (story mode is kind of short, but the leviathan game mode makes up for it)
We can call this an underground gem. For me is a:
-Good shooter.
-Good rhythm game.
-Good music.
But i feel the game has more potential. Not only in levels, but mechanics that can turn this game into something unic.

Intro
I tried playing BPM: Bullets Per Minute prior to this, but the Rogue-like elements there, really distracted me from what was supposed to be the main course, the rhythm-based FPS gameplay. Thankfully, Metal: Hellsinger isn't that. It's more about chasing a high-score than wandering around maze-like dungeons. I'm also glad that Doom meets Guitar Hero is now a thing.
Positives
+ Great soundtrack.
+ Good replay value.
+ Great enemy variety.
+ Good weapon variety.
+ Weapons have good impact.
+ Great aesthetics and graphics.
+ Score is entirely numerical. As opposed to being tied to an arbitrary grade like most score-based titles.
+ You don't necessarily have to look at the user-interface to see if your shots are matching up with the background music.
Negatives
- Levels and boss battles should really be separated for better pacing.
- There shouldn't be a difficulty selection for a game very much based on chasing leader-boards in my opinion. Making this change, will be able to put everyone on the same page in terms of enemy encounters, with the exception of their individual skill levels.
The genre can swap a bit from Rhythm FPS to bullet hell on occasion, but overall it FEELS good to play this game. Songs hit, and fit very well with a beat-dependent title. Story is basic as hell but doesn't feel pointless to me, glad it's there rather than not. Arenas can drag on in later levels, and I do wish there were more enemy types to spice em up.
Gunplay is classic Boomer Shooter style, press M1 on shit 'till it dies, swap weapons when you want. Reloads do reward a fast-reload, but all weapons have the same timing and only one input, in contrast to BPM with different reloads for almost every gun that all* require multiple inputs.
Game is good.
not perfection but definitely worth my money and my time. Starting out on the Leviathan mode, can't comment.
As for the DLCs, uh
You don't need em, mate. Buy em if you want, but don't let the latex and thigh highs impose on you too hard.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! i know the reviews are overwhemigly positive but believe me. i was a drummer for a year, the beat and the hits are absolutly not synced no metter what you do. the calibration is terible and gives you a different result every time. also the fps is really low. fastest refund.
compared to this game, hi-fi rush, which is also an action rythem game just like this but without metal, i got perfect timing every time. this is how it is when the game mechanice actually works.
Banger songs and really fun gameplay. Would easily recommend.
Very good stuff. The overall quality of this release is impressive, from of course music over level design and gameplay, everything is top notch. No technical issues of any sort and very easy to complete. If you are like me and this is the first rhythm game ever you play, give it some time. But man once you get the hang of it, this stuff is highly addictive. Recommended even for full price! Can we get more of this?
Great game, although I'm terrible at getting tempos, I enjoy every second I play it.
The only problem I find is that at some point the lack of variety in music makes you feel burned out.
9/10
METAL HELLSINGER: An album of passion and love in video game form
You know that feeling you get when you find camaraderie with someone who is just as passionate as you are for a niche passion? Remember how that mutual excitement caused the back of your neck to get goosebumps, your heart racing from glee, your mouth unable to catch up to the hundreds of words coming out because you have so much to say about the passion thats been kept self guarded? Metal: Hellsinger is that new pal you talk for hours into the night with passion and kinship.
Metal: Hellsinger is sincere for its love for metal and man does it wear its heart on its sleeve beautifully. You have to give this game a play, its a really good time!
Fantastic game, plays (and looks) a lot like Doom, with the added mechanic of shooting in the rythm of banger soundtracks.
short game
amazing soundtrack
fun gameplay
amazing soundtrack
did i mention the amazing soundtrack?
Metal: Hellsinger is basically the answer to the question: "what if you turned DOOM into a rhythm game?"
Its an incredible idea that you know would work well before you even see it. Thankfully, the devs nailed the execution too. The gunplay is very satisfying, the music is amazing, and it all comes together very neatly.
The only real negative I can come up with are that it is a little short. Sometimes you can be fooled into thinking this is a AAA game, and that's a testament to how well made it is. However, it is made by a much smaller team than the game it draws its inspiration from.
i hope this game sold well so that a sequel can really up the production quality. Not that its bad in this game, but that's realistically the only area they need to improve.
If you like DOOM and metal music there really is no reason you shouldn't be playing this.
Genuinely one of the most fun games for me to just relax and zone out to. Perfect after a long day of classes and traveling.
Highly recommend this game for anyone who's even remotely interested in music.
definitely a must play :D
played the demo during next fest
fell in love
bought the full game
0 regrets
im honestly no big fan of metal music but holy shit
very good game
DOOM meets Rhytm Heaven (or Hell in this case).
After completing the Campaign there's Leviathan Mode which is a Roguelike with permanent upgrade unlocks. I have only reached it's final boss but haven't managed to defeat it.
For non metal heads, if you buy DLC you can get the "Pop" version of the game. I bought it and it's cool to have the option to customize playlist with lighter tracks. But if you're looking for that DOOM experience use the Dusk OST by Andrew Hulshult (?).
Anyways 9/10, could use more cheats
The soundtrack? FUCKING HITS. The gameplay? FUCKING SLAPS. The game? 10/10 Will be 100%ing. I cannot explain how much I fucking love this game. Is it the autism? Probably, do I care? No, Will I be replaying this while I wait for a sequel? YOU BET YOUR ASS I WILL!!!
I played it on xbox gamepass maybe a year ago- still a great game. Super fun once you get the hang of it. Great soundtrack! It didn't get exceptionally hard either. Each boss got a bit more challenging and the levels increased the variety of enemies causing some struggle. I did have some trouble with the final levels and staying alive but it was hard in a good way. I felt satisfied and accomplished after beating the big boss. The bonus modes to unlock perks are the most challenging thing in my opinion. The beat alignment was well done and I had no issues with the calibration.
My favorite weapon was the dual pistols! Overall a very cool take on beat games.
The gameplay in Hellsinger revolves around an interesting and unique mechanic. It’s a shooter, but, instead of firing at enemies whenever you feel like it, the game encourages you to shoot to the rhythm of a song. The best way I can describe it is as Doom meets Dance Dance Revolution.
While I applaud the developers for trying something new, this game just didn’t do it for me. The enemies are free to attack you whenever they want but you’re in practice limited to attacking every few seconds. In practice this means you’ll be dodging for half the game while you wait for your opportunity to strike. I found that frustrating. Even more so because I found the audio and visual cues difficult to follow and not aligned to my keyboard and mouse inputs.
Well made game but I don't know how to describe it- keeping beat with metal is kinda subjective in comparison to what the game will register as a beat. If that makes sense. Maybe just not a game for me.
Fun gameplay, cool weapons, kinda short and the boss fights are super repetitive.
Of course the music slaps (If you like metal in the first place otherwise i dunno why would you buy this), to me its heresy that we dont have Powerwolf tracks at the time of this review.
8/10
Ive just beaten both normal Hell and Leviathan mode and also got 100% of the achievements you can get from the game.
I geneuantly think this game is godtier, but it has some small aspects that people REALLY should be aware of before purchasing, as it might taint their experience.
First, the positive stuff:
- The gameplay is very good, mechanics are solid, satisfying and well implimented
- The pretty decent selection of weapons is really nice as none of them feel outclassed by any of the others since they all serve very specific combat styles. The crossbow might be a bit broken imo, but i dont think it needs any nerfs since its the type of broken that is super fun + YOU CAN ROCKET JUMP LIKE IN TF2 :D
- The music is REALLY GOOD. I am not a big metal fan myself and i can tell you that i was jamming to most of the tracks in here!
- This game does have DLCs but they arent by any means necessary to get the full experience. Just a good way to get more songs, weapons and skins (i reccomend the bow DLC, the bow is amazing)
- The game is SO replayable. A point Ill get into in the nitpick/problem section is the amount of content, but I should make it clear that the levels are really fun to revisit from time to time. I geneuantly boot up the game sometimes to just blow off some steam after a long day
However, here are some of my nitpicks/problems the game has at the time of posting:
since theres a lot of text here ill highlight the important stuff to read, but i suggest reading the explinations beneath it too
- You might see this a lot in other reviews but the game is rather short. Because of that, some people dont see the game being worth its current price. I think its okay since you can see how much thought went into every part of the game, and the Leviathan mode they implimented helps to give you more to do.
I might personally suggest waiting for a sale since the price feels a bit more fair that way. Still, if you buy it at full price, Im pretty sure you wont be dissapointed. Maybe just try not to speedrun anything and really try to take it at a pace you feel comfortable with
- The game has some pretty significant glitches and bugs. Not that many to be clear, but they can be annoying when you try to play
The ones I encountered so far are:
the game crashing when you boot it up (fix for that personally was restarting steam, in case this helps
anyone)
tutorial level basically being a coinflip between if the cave area will even load or if youll be standing and
walking into invisible walls/terrain
a friend of mine also got a pretty devistating glitch where he just cannot start the game as it keeps crashing.
So far no online tutorial or forum helped so its pretty devistating. Praying every day it doesnt happen to me,
and I really hope it doesnt happen to you either
Personal note:
I think this game is geneuantly one of the better games ive played, be it FPS, rythm game or otherwise. There def are some stuff that could use polish since the glitches can be pretty devistating at times, but if you manage to overlook that and its relatively small amount of content, I think its a must-buy for anyone who likes to listen to awesome songs while playing games to try and feel cool lol
Also, hope this review was somewhat readable, i am not a native speaker and Im incredibly sleep deprived rn so I hope anything here made sense lmao
Every day I pray to the All that Hellsinger 2 comes out
Such a good game with glorious music, beat fucking rocks
Honest to god, games great. Only issue is there's no way to listen to this music OUTSIDE of the game and that's the biggest drawback. Because you will get hooked on it. There is no escape. It will take your soul to rip and tear through the endless hordes of hell with.
Awesome game! Best soundtrack ever heard in game!
Fantastic rhythm shooter with a killer metal soundtrack composed by Two Feathers and featuring metal vocalist legends. Well worth the time i've put into it, especially now with the rogue-like mode "leviathan". The DLC is well worth the price for the soundtrack alone (minus the licensed songs, probably skip that and buy the other 2)
Overall killer game for metal heads and rhythm game enjoyers alike! (Though be warned, the songs do include "unclean" growls/screams. So if that's not your scene you may not enjoy it as much as I do)
manifesting for more games like this to be created
i cannot die peacefully until there's a different game for every genre out there
this one is number one for metal music tho and nothing will top it ever
Cautious recommendation.
Completely and totally squandered potential.
This game is awesome, don't get me wrong, but they basically stopped development to work on a VR version. It could've been huge, but apparently that's not what they wanted.
I wish there was a neutral review option on steam because this game is not bad, it is arena boomer shooter with dope metal soundtracks and it is very simple when it comes to your objective: slay all enemy's and defeat the boss fight at the end of level and enter the next level, so why not recommend it exactly?
Well there is 2 problems and first is performance issues and last is the unbalanced difficulty.
People wrote enough about optimization so i'm just gonna write about difficulty settings,
At first you have 3 difficulty option to start this game, first is lamb which is easy and 2nd is Goat (normal) and last is Beast which is hard basically and also Archdevil which is locked and you need to finish the game first to unlock this difficulty option.
If you want a real challenge you need to play this game with Beast mode because Goat difficulty will make this game extremely boring, all enemy's you encounter have low health and is like you killing flies.
Also another issue is that Beast mode means if you die once then you need to start the current level again and i think this is bad design choice, like you can't have real experience in Goat mode because of enemy's low health and also you have this punishing death penalty in Beast mode and i must admit i'm not a pro player when it comes to this types of arena shooters but i think this game needs a custom difficulty option so you can play this game in beast mode but without the death penalty IMO
Short, but fun rhythm FPS.
This one nails the mechanics and gunplay, but when you get to the later stages things get... complicated.
Good:
- great music.
- rewarding mechanics.
- fluid movement.
- you can adjust the timing of the beat.
Could be better:
- story is cheesy at best, but it's not the worst.
- final boss just has too many attacks at once.
- enemies can get a little repetetive at times.
- the shotgun and pistols, while fun, aren't nearly as powerful as the other two weapons (despite this I used them throughout the game, so it's not like they're completely outclassed either)
- sound test doesn't work in the background.
The game takes about 3 hours to complete, but it has a high price. Even completing 100% of the achievements is not a problem. The game has poor replayability. The idea is good 7/10 but the cost is awful. Tbh I didn't like it and hopefully I bought it at sell
Felky Fun Meter
||----------| [0/10] Not fun!
It was very hard for me to do good or actually improve and get better since you are never badly punished for being bad at staying on beat; and every gun quickly felt flat and boring to use.
I don't like mentioning other games for a review but after having an amazing time with games like BPM and Necrodancer where you literally cannot act unless you do the action on beat; this game felt very much less like a rhythm-based one.
The 16x concept with the vocals is a nice touch but since I couldn't really ever reach it that didn't help.
The fact that you can shoot and act off-beat completely ruined the entire game for me, and I probably would have not had such a bad time if I played this game first before the two I mentioned above but that's how it went.
This game fucking rules, the hit of dopamine I got the first time I played has yet to be matched by anything since. It's a little short, but that's remedied somewhat by the horde mode.
Very fun and satisfying to play overall, game is really short if you don't wanna do all the bonus stuff and go for high scores but that's alright
This game has some of the best gameplay out there that goes to the beat of some epic music.
Good Shooter
Fast Paced
Everything is based on the beat of Extreme Metal
New & Refreshing
if you want to play a game that is just pure fun with a soundtrack that is one of the best ive ever heard look no further, i adored this game and have platinumed it
Legitimately one of the most engaging, fun games I've ever played. You have ADHD and/or a high threshold for stimulation in games? This is as good as it gets. Absolutely incredible music, the mechanics are smooth as butter, and it keeps you non-stop locked in. So good.

This game feels incredible to play. I'm not sure there's more to say about why it's fun and why I would recommend it - it does many things seen in other games, and not necessarily as well, but stitches them together very well into a great experience.
At 10 hours, I've beat the game and maybe could have done it faster. There is still more completionist content I could explore to unlock skins, to advance in difficulty, and to participate in a rogue-like progression mode, but it's possible I won't engage with the extra content. Even though it's not much time for the price tag and not necessarily that alluring to return to after beating the main story even if the content is there, I am satisfied and I would not have wanted the story to last longer, not without at least revolutionising the level design or adding more to the enemy roster.
Me being a Rhythm game noob I started by struggling at first, but then I hit the flow state and started ripping with the hardcore metal tunes. I believe that this experience will be universal to all players as long as they enjoy the metal aesthetic.
not really. (I'm always the exception)
Pointless, non-sense shooting. Kinda boring.
me: boo, this game is repetetive, art direction is not good and story is.... bluh bluh

I never play rhythm games. But when I saw the trailer for this one it caught my eye. When I checked the artist line up and listened to some of the songs I bought it immediately.
My neck hurts so good from all the head banging from all the bangers this game has.
If you like metal and shooters then give this game a try. I definitely enjoyed it.
I'm a sucker for rhythm games and metal, so I loved this. I felt like shooting with the correct rhythm wasn't as impactful as I hoped it to be, BPM does it better. It's still 100% worth it.
Definitely watch a gameplay before buying though.
A great game with some great music.
I had very few issues with the game with the only 2 coming from comparison to other games like Ultrakill and Doom 2016 . These being;
- Some weapons (like Persephone) have a delay after firing which prohibits you from switching weapons. This feels excessively long for those fast paced rooms in higher difficulties where every beat counts.
[*]There is movement tech in the game called "Soaring" which does increase survivability in some cases and the amount of fun zooming around, but acceleration/speed still feels very limited with your dash/movement.
These could very well be intentional as the whole intention of the game is pacing yourself and getting into a rhythm so take it with a grain of salt. The game still feels very good to play and executes well on the mechanics it introduces throughout the story.
Overall 9.5/10
It can be fairly awkward try to calibrate audio latency so you're not hitting notes early/late, but the game doesn't take itself too seriously and just wants you to have fun.
