A fitting sequel to a great game :) Has an interesting weapons system now and the story is also really well done
I loved Ori and the Blind Forest, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps is even better! It builds on the first game with so many improvements and exciting new features.
I rarely finish games nowadays - I tend to start one and then jump to the next without completing anything. But with Ori, it was different. I completed the first game and craved more, and Will of the Wisps delivered!
The story feels deeper, with more characters and emotional moments. The addition of a "home base" that you can improve was a fun touch. Beyond the challenging platforming from the first game, this one adds bosses and a build system, allowing you to customize skills to suit specific situations. The time trials were a challenging and rewarding addition, and the combat shrines offered a great way to hone battle skills.
I'm in awe of the art and world design - it’s vibrant and alive! The soundtrack is just as stunning, adding to the emotional experience!
Right off the bat, this game is quite well-made. It feels better than its predecessor, Ori and the Blind Forest. What I love about this version is how skills and abilities are unlocked because, in the Blind Forest, the abilities were kept locked away for far too long compared to Will of the Wisps. This caused a ridiculous amount of backtracking in the Blind Forest. However, in this one, it made sense as you continued the game. The story is nice and simple. A good simple narration and story progression from part 1 and the art and music are still great. Now, listing the pros and cons.
Pros:
-The mechanics work well, most of the time. Once in a while, it doesn’t seem to input the button press, but it didn’t really bother me.
-The story continuation was a good touch. I thought it was going to be a whole new story that was not built off the first game. With the continuation and story progression, the game had a better emotional attachment to it.
-Abilities/skills. These were literally what was missing from the first game. It’s like they knew they had to be added in this one and they did. It made the game sooo much more fun and enjoyable.
-BOSS FIGHTS!!!! LET’S GOOOO!!! This is what was missing in the first game. By adding the boss fights and mixing the platforming into it, the game felt amazing. By not fully detracting from the original and keeping the platforming mixed in, it just worked.
-Backtracking. They made it where backtracking to other locations seemed minimal. In the Blind Forest, backtracking was a pain because a ton of the life orbs, energy orbs, spirit orbs, etc are locked behind unique abilities. The locations felt random. It’s like they decided to just pick and choose where they go. However, in this game, it made a lot more sense where they put them. Practically, the area where you get the ability is where you use it the most.
-Puzzles. The puzzles were much more understanding than the first game. There weren't hidden switches that you had to spend copious amounts of time to find. In the first game, you did not know if you needed to find a switch or break it with an ability. In this one, the hints and markers are actually good indicators in here.
-Autosave. This was a nice feature to the game. You, having to not use your energy to create save points, made it so much better. Also, the placement of the autosave points is phenomenal. I’ve literally never gone back farther than 10, maybe 20, seconds from an autosave point after a death.
Cons:
-As stated earlier, sometimes the button would not input or would input twice for some reason. I don’t know. I tried different controllers and same result. But it didn’t ruin the game for me.
-Brightness. This game is too bright at times where you seem to blend into the background. Some of your abilities are really blinding and once in a while, you can’t tell where you are. If you adjust it down, then it gets too dark in the darker areas and the colors don’t look right. So, I just kept it at its default brightness. *Squinting as needed*
Originally, I was contemplating whether to start this game or not after completing the Blind Forest because the Blind Forest was an ok game. It didn’t make me feel invested in the saga. However, after the intro, and not even 10 minutes into the game, I was sold. COMBAT and BOSS FIGHTS!!!! YES! It. Was. Here. I get to actually fight and not just play a platforming simulator. I love the mix of combat with platforming and they meshed them together really well. Overall, an incredible game.
Would I recommend this game? Yes. Absolutely. Only catch, to me personally, is getting through Ori and the Blind Forest because it feels and plays really different compared to this one, Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an enchanting game full of puzzles, challenges, and stunning visuals! I was immediately sucked into this game after playing through the opening story sequence and couldn't stop coming back for more.
After I've thought that there wont be a better game than Ori And The Blind Forest. Well, I was wrong, REALLY WRONG. This game is PERFECT in EVERYTHING. A MASSIVE upgrade from the first game. This game feels so smooth and fantastic. I liked this game so much that I just beat it in one day after 10 hours non-stop.
Overall: its an amazing game with really heart-touching story, silly creatures and HUGE AMOUNT of gameplay. Definitely a GREAT memory for the rest of my life.
Ori and the will of the wisps is a great sequal to ori and the blind forest, the story is amazing. And the platforming and game play can somtimes be difficult it presents a fun challange which you will alwasy over come.
One of the Greatest Platforming Game to exist. The visual are *Chef* *Kiss*
Everything great about the first Ori game was taken into this one. Will of the Wisps felt more balanced overall with some new mechanics to play with. As usual, beautiful music and a good story.
This game does in fact surpass its predecessor in many aspects such as the combat. I would definietly recomend this if you enjoyed: ori and the blind forest.
Awesome music, cool gameplay, beautiful environment, everything is awesome!!
There are many reviews that can talk about this game and its predecessor better than me, I'll just say I finished it in less than a week and it's become one of my top three games. Buy it.
This game has a unique atmosphere, a decent story, and quite entertaining gameplay with mostly platformer and combat. Overall, I rate this game 8.5/10.
Hollow Knight but better !
I am a great fan of games with satisfying movement systems and this is off the charts. If you like Titanfall or Ori 1, you love this.
The game is a metoridvania set in a huge forest, you play Ori, a little spirit and you try to rind the land of corruption.
In terms of progression, you have it everywhere, the more you explore, the faster you get because the better you are.
The game relies heavily on each power you get : wall climb, the slingshot ability (my favorite, allowing you to use ennemies and various stuff as a way to redirect your velocity), and others
All the weapons are satisfying to use, the game is beautiful (i cannot overstate it) and the fluidity is incredible !
Best played with controller, I WANT ORI 3
Also this is the second installment, better than Ori 1 still but play both games
This is an evolution of the original Ori game. Honestly, I think most of the things that can be said about the first game apply here. One thing I will say about this is that the movement in particular was greatly improved from the first game to this one, so if you want to play both games, play the first one before this. I tried going back and only then do you realize how much it's changed.
The Ori games are really good! If you like 2d adventures, metroidvanias, or cute woodland creatures in a fantasy forest definitely play this!
I'm not a platformer player, and I never will be. Why? Because I don't believe or want there to be one better than this...
Graphic 73/73 Story 67/67 Craftsmanship 143/143 Difficulty = Superbly balanced
-Insert emotions here-
Beautiful storytelling in the form of a 2D-platformer, provides an excellent contrast between the beauty and cruelty of nature. You learn about the purpose of your existence as a white shiny whatchamacallit by traversing through various biomes and meeting other whatchamacallits. Stunning piece of art, definitely give it a try.
Also entomophobia.
ORI, yes this game brought something new to the table for me, haven't played this type of game for many, many years.
The soundtrack, folks, is stellar from end to end. I don't think I've ever played a game with such a fitting soundtrack throughout.
The story is good too.
Even though I finally got through the game, I thought it was a bit to difficult, but the feeling you get when you manage it is good, but still.
It looks, feels and sounds amazing, no bugs and nice graphics
Loved this game!
It was an amazing experience and even though I was totally lost for at least a few hours trying to find my way in the map, I enjoyed every single part of it.
Great storyline, loved the world building and the art is so SO beautiful it had an impact on my own art aswell (huge inspiration).
Artstyle, music, story, gameplay are all great. Glad I got to experience it and thanks for this really good game.
Would totally recommend but play the first one first :)
great visuals, music, and platforming. boss fights range from ok to really bad. ending was just ok.
A Stunning Masterpiece of Platforming and Emotion
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is nothing short of a masterpiece. It’s an emotional rollercoaster wrapped in breathtaking visuals, offering a platforming experience that is as challenging as it is rewarding. If you loved the first game, Ori and the Blind Forest, this sequel elevates everything to a whole new level.
The world of Niwen is a true work of art—lush, vibrant, and full of life. From the dense, glowing forests to the mysterious ruins, every environment is crafted with incredible detail and love. The hand-painted art and fluid animations create a world that feels both magical and alive, making each moment of exploration a joy.
The platforming mechanics are tight and satisfying, with Ori’s agility and abilities providing a perfect balance of challenge and creativity. The puzzles and platforming sequences are wonderfully designed, offering a variety of approaches and solutions that make every moment feel fresh and engaging.
What truly sets Ori and the Will of the Wisps apart is its emotional storytelling. Without relying on words, the game conveys a deeply moving narrative about hope, sacrifice, and the bonds we form. The music, composed by Gareth Coker, is hauntingly beautiful, complementing the atmosphere and emotional beats of the game perfectly.
With its stunning art, tight gameplay mechanics, and powerful story, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a game that will stay with you long after you've finished it. It's a must-play for fans of platformers, emotional storytelling, and anyone looking for a truly magical experience.
Cute and lovely graphics, precise controls, it is giving me hard times, although enjoyable :)
A beautiful game that was engaging, moving, challenging, forgiving, and masterfully produced. A sequel above all.
Thank you to all of you who worked on this game.
Beautiful.
I hadn't realized how much I liked platformers until I got the Ori games, and oh boy is this fantastic. The movement system is incredibly fluid; chaining together all of the different abilities is fast and fun. It's fairly approachable, too: you won't be suffering Hollow Knight's path of pain here. There are some optional extra challenges scattered around the map to race between two points, if you want to engage with those. I'd obviously recommend doing so. Oh and, use a controller: analog movement is important.
There are tons of collectibles scattered around the map, hidden but not absurd. I achieved 95% completion without doing the thing that reveals the location of every collectible, so just being observant is enough (and no, that doesn't mean banging your head against every wall - there's tells). It took about 15 hours to clear everything on hard difficulty for my first time through.
The escape sequences are the highlight of this (and the previous) game. It really lends itself well to the fast-paced platforming, which is a lot of fun to do under pressure. I didn't have many issues with readability, and it resets quickly enough in case you don't see what you needed to do in time. Coupled with the music, it's a fantastic experience. I don't know if I'll ever hit the high I did when I first did the Ginso tree in Blind Forest.
The combat in Will of the Wisps is better than Blind Forest, with the sword stopping your momentum so you can float a bit while you attack (by comparison, in Blind Forest you had to figure out how to spam X and A at the same time... not a great experience, but then Blind Forest doesn't have as much combat). I didn't find combat particularly difficult, especially once I acquired the hammer ability - and that's playing on hard (which is more of a health bar increase than actual difficulty). I also didn't think the boss fights were too interesting: part of that is because of the aforementioned health bars, but also because I don't think it exercises the core platforming as much as the escape sequences do.
The story of this and the previous game is one of the best I've played. You should play Ori and the Blind Forest before this, if that's not obvious for whatever reason. Hard-hitting emotional moments with great, well-fitting music. I don't want to get into the details. Blind is best (...pun intended?).
Go grab both Ori games. They've got a reputation for a reason.
just perfect. it's absolutely stunning and amazing. ending was a bit mid but overall gameplay is very nice
yes
30/10 story
10/10 map
10/10 visuals
8/10 combat
20/10 movement
Beatiful Game, beatiful story. very solid gameplay. great music. it deserves the aclaim it has gotten.
the game also fixes the first games 2 biggest problems, being dull combat and the saving system. the combat has way more depth and the saving has automatic waypoints instead of manual waypoints with a resource meter.
the only thing i didnt really like is that some bosses have multiple phases, and your health saves in between phases. meaning that if you start phase 2 with low health; if you die, you start with the same amount of low health when you retry. and the bosses are very challenging too, they are hard to beat.
maybe a skill issue.
but game is very very good
Started with Blind Forest, and now I'm here. I feel like everyone should know this game series. I love them both. They're challenging, gorgeous, and tugs at my heart with these characters. It's one of the only games I can endure "combat" in.
The game is visually sumptuous, with a story both endearing and emotionally charged. The series deserves to be better known. I honestly can't recommend it strongly enough. Play them both, you'll be glad you did.
A very well-done sequel to Ori that fixes every minor issue I had with the first one. The completionist aspects are much easier to deal with and don't give me burnout thanks to the comprehensive map you can unlock piece-by-piece. Ori's main attack is now a satisfying melee instead of a boring ranged homing orb. While the story did not grip me again like the last one, I was surprised and impressed by the direction they took it. My only complaint is that some of the optional challenges and achievements are absolutely insane. There's an achievement for playing through the entire campaign without dying, which is asking for a lot of wrote memorization and seems like a way of padding gameplay time. The game has multiple "cinematic" moments where you're being chased, or running from a disaster, and some of the hazards are placed that guarantee the player will be insta-killed unless they know about them ahead of time. It's not a second playthrough type thing either, because a few weeks later and I've forgotten about every single one. They're optional though, so it's not a deal breaker.
If you liked the first Ori game then you won't be disappointed by this one.
Easily one of the best metroidvania games out there. Beautiful areas, beautiful soundtracks, great story line. Everything's about this game is chef's kiss. Most platformer sections require skill to pass but they're fine. Really worth it for the price.
really good game like its story but one thing i don't like is that when you die halfway in a boss u don't get a save meaning if u have a hard time you have to do it over and over and over and over and over again from the start
First and foremost: if you haven't played the Ori franchise yet, just go for it without a second thought! Ori is one of those games that I have cherished over the years, and my love for it has never faded. It’s a tremendous honor to have these games in my library, and I finally got around to purchasing them!
I can’t recall ever feeling like a game is more like a beautiful animated movie than when I play Ori. It’s a unique experience that I haven’t encountered anywhere else.
The story told here has partially changed my worldview, and I truly appreciate the impact Ori has had on my personal growth. One distinctive feature of these games is that whenever I feel disillusioned with life, they restore my faith in the world and the people in it. It’s as if I begin to see that spark of innocence again, which seems to fade away with time, but Ori shows me that it’s still very much alive.
Really pretty and the platforming is really clever and fun. The bosses on hard difficulty are not good though, too tiring
天堂般的画风,绝美的音乐,爽快的跑酷,感人的剧情
好像又回到了几年前玩一代一样,单纯的快乐
10/10
-----------还没通关-------------
This such an extraordinary experience and it's sooo beautiful. I recommend buying this game on discounts it's really worth it!
verygood game and story. Fun to play. Good graphics
This game is like a combination of the first Ori game and Hollow Knight.
One of the best Metroidvanias out there.
This game crashes a lot. Its a pretty fun platformer experience. But the controls feel really slow and as I said, I can't play for more than 20 minutes without it just crashing on me.
Beautiful game, great flow. Soundtrack is 8/10 - I feel like i'm being edged.
Amazing graphics, beautiful gameplay. Quite hard to say the least but eh, still pretty fun!
Not only are there fun and intuitive platform mechanics introduced perpetually throughout each game segment, but in addition to a beautiful soundtrack, immersive graphics (even in 2024 standards), and an emotionally investing, yet not over-the-top story, this is truly an exemplary 2D platformer experience. Not a die-hard gamer by any means, but for hidden gems such as Ori and the Wisps, It's worth playing to completion and simply enjoying the digital craftsmanship of so many talented artists and programmers.
Good combat, great platforming, fantastic story, amazing art
Amazing game! Both mechanics and story were totally on point!
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a beautifully crafted platformer with stunning visuals, emotional storytelling, and tight gameplay mechanics.
Its rich world and captivating soundtrack create an unforgettable, immersive experience.
It shines with its fluid platforming and dynamic abilities
The abilities add depth to both the puzzles and the combat, making every moment feel rewarding.
Music and visuals are stunning but combat feels pretty flat. Boss chases were the most annoying but ending fight made up for it.
Play if you like challenging platformers and using your brain. Theres no yellow paint anywhere
This game is absolutely stunning, in terms of everythingg.....
The graphics are so beautiful, every scene feels like a piece of art...
The environments are packed with detail, making the world feel alive..
The soundtrack is impressive, adding layers of emotion to the journey..
That prologue was just so good literally best intro to the game...
It’s a perfect mix of beauty and depth...
It’s clear that the devs didn’t just want to make a game, they wanted to create an experience that stays with us long after playing this game..
Great game, much better than the first one, which was already pretty good. Highly recommended.
this game is as beautiful and fun as the first one (Ori and the blind forest), the music is top of the line, the art is amazing and the story is great, the only thing i didnt like was the bow weapon i never had a reason to use it and when i did it was weak and burn to much mana :)
one of the best metroidvania's I've ever played. movement is top notch, combat is much improved from the first game and the game is just too fun to explore, MOON did a phenomenal job and as unlikely as it is i do wish this series would continue in the future
Definitely one of my most favorite games I've ever played. I keep coming back to this and playing through 100% of the game. The combat and platforming in the game feel great and the story is breathtaking. It really makes you feel everything that the characters feel and the visuals are just amazing. For sure recommended if anyone is looking for a good story line and a good platformer
