Although not awful, this is not a particularly good puzzle platformer in any respect.
The only real gimmick is the control scheme, but both mouse and gamepad controls are wanting. The mouse lets you experience the gimmick fully, but since it doesn't snap back to the center you have to manually jerk it back up between every thrust or else you won't be able to drag it far enough to do a full power jump. A gamepad lets you control it perfectly, but kills the unique aspect of it and also makes it difficult to do jumps at less than full power.
Other than that: The levels are ok but there's not much in the way of puzzles. The story is not interesting. It squanders the humor inherent in its premise because the main character clearly doesn't mind being tossed around like a ragdoll. There's a laundry list of annoying UI problems (you can't speed up text without skipping it, the map is hard to read and inexplicably scrolls down when you aren't holding down a key, you can't switch between control schemes without fully exiting and relaunching the game. probably others I forgot).
Even for genre fans, your time and money is probably better spent elsewhere.
Fun, mellow metroidvania. The game puts much more emphasis on puzzles than on action - a good thing, because the puzzles are generally fun and the rare action setpieces are a step down from that. The unorthodox control scheme can become frustrating during these setpieces, though not to an enraging degree and not for long enough to be discouraging. Again, these moments were not common occurences.
The story won't keep you on the edge of your seat, but it serves its purpose and resolves satisfactorily. Certain text boxes scroll at an agonizing snail's pace, leading to some frustrating moments, though this most frequently occurs during little character moments and not crucial story beats. Speaking of, the character beats are charming, adding a lot to the protagonist's likability.
The visuals are quite lovely, as you can likely tell from the preview images.
This game offers pretty good value for the price, especially on sale. It's worth checking out for the unique mechanics and pleasant tone.
I like the game. I've been playing for about 3 and a half hours and I just received a slow down ability. I am at the feet of a giant statue of the King's daughter, the princess. I'm stuck in this small area. I have bounced in every square inch of the area and tried to press B to slow things down and every other thing I could think of. I'm just stuck there. How do I get out? Update: I finally figured it out. The game doesn't seem to explain these things very well, but I needed to change the ability to a lightning charge to break through rock walls.
Well, I love Indie games and I thought on giving it a chance. I had a good time spent (not that much but a good amount of effort) when I found myself stuck in a spot of the game where the lava rises after you open a path (no spoilers given so I'll keep it low). Well, I died as I couldn't escape from the lava. Next I know is: I'm trapped. Path is again closed, lava keeps rising. Even if chose to start the game from the last checkpoint it leaves me trapped on that spot. No option to start the game from any other checkpoint so basically my only option is to start all over. Am I doing it? Of course I won't. This is the first game I quit. So bad. If anybody has any idea how to fix it, I'll give it another shot
I have never played a game like this, does a comparable exist?! The mechanics are creative and the puzzles are innovative. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys adventure, logic and damn sexy landscapes
Holy Wowzers! This game is out of this world AWESOME. The design took me to another level of happiness that I literally just ran around the game for the first 2 hours I played to see all the awesome imagery. The illustration is a work of art.
Art aside, the game itself is super fun. It was really easy to learn all of the necessary moves to navigate through the adventure, but not too easy that I could just beat every level without effort. I'm still fired up about the lake of fire that took me hours to get past. There are some really creative and challenging aspects to the game that made it extra fun to play. At times, I felt like a masochist because I clearly wasn't making progress, but continued attempting the same part of the game - I think that's the sign of a great game. Highlights for me were the variety of bowling balls, the fact that you throw the bowling ball into your stomach to launch your player. Also, Norman is a real OG. His beard just makes me smile. All around, pure fun.
Great game. Would buy many times over.
This is a beautiful, challenging, and creative game.
Bought it for the unique mechanic and art--- it was well worth it. The slingshot mechanic worked really well with a mouse and also on my touch screen lap top.
Puzzles could be challenging, but were highly satisfying. Loved the ability to explore the world, find hidden secrets, and dodge rocks & lava. Well worth it.
