A great homage to horror fantasy classics like Leprechaun and Troll 2. Reading the story aloud is a engaging mechanic and I didn't run into any problems with my voice being detected. I also quite enjoy the atmosphere and the story though simply was still fun in a dark sorta way.
Love It.
gg
Decent.
Edit: Don't get it if you want to play with your mic, it doesn't work very well.
It's still a pretty nice short horror game and I didn't mind playing with the narration mode.
The concept is very cool and very original. However, the microphone input is very buggy / it does not work 70% of the time, in the menu at least, but when I try to play the game in narrator mode it does not pick up my mic at all. A shame, but I am glad there are many playthroughs on YouTube. Sorry, but I had to refund this game since it was literally unplayable.
it was easy died two times
horrible game doesnt detect my mic while im screaming at it
gas
Midnight Evil is a fun horror game that can make use of a very interesting concept--using the microphone to control the game. The premise of the game is to read a book and check your surroundings for monsters, as the book is supposed to dispose of these monsters. While it is possible to make it so voices read the book to you, reading the book with your own voice into your microphone is also an option. My friend and I used the microphone to read the book and had a blast playing the game!
Just got finished playing this game as part of a stream, and damn, I have not experienced a horror game like this one in a good while! :D
While the game was a bit short, and the narrator mode was a little uncooperative in some areas. The entire concept of the mode in a storybook-based game just worked perfectly, and helped add a level of immersion into it that I haven't seen used anywhere else to this day. I mean the sole fact that this game managed to make reading a book fun is enough to seal the deal for me, since I'm not much of a reading fan. xD
The game itself looked beautiful, and while the jumpscare aspect of the Urklings did wear off somewhat quickly, their varied designs helped each tribe stand out so much more than just the colours alone, which I really liked.
Overall the only really gripe I have is that I wish there was more of it. The game didn't even take me 2 hours to complete, and while this has taken the place as one of my favourite horror game experiences to date, the game has also left me hungry for more (leaving me stuck on whether this point comes across as positive or negative xD).
To conclude I would highly recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a new flavour of horror game, that still feels familiar to people who have played other titles such as the FNAF series or Boogeyman/Frosty Nights.
I look forward to what comes next from Impulse Game Studios! :D
This game is not worth $9.99. Maybe $4.99 tops.
It is incredibly short but very fun. A little on the glitchy side because your microphone randomly stops working and you have to restart the game. It has two mini games for more achievements but they get old pretty quickly.
That's it. My review is about as short as the game. If you pay full price you will feel ripped off. I expect a LOT more from a game with a $10 price tag.
I look forward to more games from these Devs, hopefully with more content or a lower price point so that the cost makes sense.
Thanks for reading! :)
I would recommend this game, but it's pretty repetitive. the story was meh, but my main problem was sentences not being registered and the fact some sentences went on for way too long. plus, the little jibber-jabbers you have to keep away aren't even scary. first" the green one. pretty good starter enemy and pretty balanced. then, the blue/ white one. it's basically a more difficult version of the green one. but the red/yellow ones? SCREW.THOSE. I hate the fact that four or five of them appear, and I often got screwed over by them when ALL THREE OF THE GODDAMN THINGS were there at once. getting killed is practically unavoidable with those things if you're not the usain bolt of moving your cursor. and, the game's pretty repetitive and can get monotonous. good game if you're a wimp, but not if you've seen everything the "you sit stationary and you try to not get jumpscared" genre has to offer. if you want something good, i'd recommend taking a look around at some fnaf fangames. a lot of them have pretty unique mechanics and can offer a pretty good amount of satisfaction
The game got a very cool idea but ya boy stutters, tho.
I still love it.
The thing that bugs me, three trophies: Completionist, Mole Whacker
Those two trophies are bugged.
(I finished the game about five times, the game doesn't even tell you that you unlocked the mole game.)
I had all Data blocks and all trophies but STILL... No Competionist trophy.
Side note: I had to replay random levels about 7 times until the last two blocks appeared since they're luck based.
The 'Germinator Destruction Gold' trophy works but it was a biiiiitch to get it since the pills are random and germs movement are random, as well, cu.
(I you miss more than three shots, quit the run.)
((You can unlock the germ game by clicking the Otori poster at the beginning of level 5, 6, or 7 (I can't remember) since it zooms in on the dang thing at the end of one of these levels.))
Other than garbage trophies that made me spend wayyyyy too much time on this...
issa solid game. Can't wait for the sequel.
It's not often you see a new indie horror game that comes out and is unique these days! I loved the interactive component, the story-line was great, and the gameplay was terrifying and lots of fun! Great work on the game!
