I bought this by accident.
It's what it says it is, a 30 minute NES game.
I can't think of a reason to buy this unless games like Karate Kid for the NES are games you rate among the pinnacle of video games. It's uh.. It's exactly what it says it is in the Steam page description so I really can't fault it for that, and it plays fine and interestingly enough. ..Oops!
Its a good retro game.
Good primitve game . evryone must play .
simple times . gaming must return to this .
95% modern game developers probably even more need to be put in re-education camps + hard physical work , and their games should be erased

clunky unresponsive controls and slow character movement speed were not fun
"Katana Soul" is a challenging action platformer in a well crafted and dark commodore-retro-fashion.
The movement and means to attack are very limited by choice so that layout- and pattern-memorisation is very important (especially on Hard Mode). Progression feels earned by your patience. Get hit once while wielding the only power up in the game and it is gone.
Recommended for the seasoned nostalgia- and retro-fan!

I loved the style, it is so good, the gameplay reminds me a lot of arcade style! you guys did an amazing job copying the same feeling.
I find it weird I have never seen anyone talking about this game. It has way more value than it's price and it's pretty much Sekiro if it was a NES game.
A short pleasant little samurai game made in the C64 style. It was a bit tricky, but only took about an hour to beat. It's a great game; the sound, visuals and gameplay are all very slick and competent. Beautiful pixel art and a carefully-designed challenge, with several different difficulties and modes. Would recommend if you're into this kind of thing.
I should thumb it down, but the games is honest with its intent from the begining, it aims at making you experience what it was like in the old days of gaming at a fair price.
I didnt enjoy it, but if you care to go along with the gameplay in order to see the full story, im not judging you. Had it been more expensive, or if the artstyle wasnt a direct reference to the gameplay, it would be a thumbs down

When it comes to games trying to emulate the sweaty-palmed precision-fests of yore, games like Ninja Gaiden, everything is about balance. Katana Soul has balance.
The game is hard without being frustrating, and has had me frequently saying "Ok, one more try". That's balance. The learning curve is fine too; the more you get to know each screen of the game, the more attuned your reflexes seem, the further you get.
I've played over 110 minutes and I don't think I've had a single attempt where I didn't get slightly further than the last... the balance between challenge and learning is such that I'm yet to arrive at a point of diminishing return where I just want the experience to be over.
I'm tantalised by the possibility of arriving at the next screen - I'm energised by realising I've never arrived at a certain point with so many lives or so much health until now. I'm focused, I am the samurai.
Its just fun, man. The C64 graphics, sounds and music are gorgeous, perfect even; the difficulty is perfect, and I'm almost certainly going to keep returning to this until I can beat C64-difficult mode.
Would've been happy to pay full price but got it in the sale. Just get it if you're on the fence. I've paid less than a penny per minute of akuma-slaying action so far, and that's set to drop even further.
Katana Soul is a pretty good retro-styled adventure game brought to you by Seep, the people behind Dragon climax, now the story. A long time ago there was a village that had a powerful Tengu mask, it had the power to keep at bay powerful demons, but then the mask was stolen and when it was stolen The Demon King launched his attack. Now the land is in trouble plagued by monsters and horrors, but only one man a pure-hearted samurai name Ken will stand up to the Demonic horde.
Okay the likes, the gameplay is simple and fun as you travel the different levels in the game killing enemies, doing some light platforming and picking up a power up, it's also hard but fair and with time and practice you will be beating the game even on its most challenging difficulty.
The pixel graphics are really good; it definitely captures the feel of an old-school NES game while still having some nice details. The levels in the game are quite good and diverse from a forest, to a snowy Village to even hell itself.
The enemies and bosses are good each one with their own unique design and attack. The music in the game was good and sound effects for the game were okay, both definitely capturing the feel of a retro game. The price for the game is more than fair.
Okay the dislikes, the only thing I can say I disliked about the game was the fire power up because when an enemy hits you, you still take damage, I feel like the fire power up should also have the ability to shield you from being damaged one time before disappearing. Also I feel like it's not as powerful when you play the game on its highest difficulty.
All right then with all that finished Katana Soul is a pretty good retro-styled adventure game brought to you by Seep, the people behind Dragon climax, it has simple and fun gameplay, really good pixel graphics and good designs for enemies and bosses. I recommend this game if you have $3 I say give it a shot.
Katana soul is an action packed adventure game with retro styled graphics and a fantastic chiptune soundtrack. You play as young samurai Kan, whose land was corrupted by evil. Now it's up to him to slay the Demon King and rid the land of corruption. Even though the game is short, it presents more story, bosses and emotions in its run, than a lot of other games in their 20 hours gameplay. There are 2 difficulty settings (normal and C64), and after you finish the game once, you unlock a survival mode, where samurai is challenged by the hordes of enemies to see how long you can last. I'm really glad I've bought this game and supported the developers, because this game is a small masterpiece. I hope in the future they'll make a bigger game and I wish them all the best.

A short and sweet retro platformer with a great soundtrack. Careful observation of enemy patterns is the key to victory, but the game's hard and survival modes will keep you on your toes far beyond completion.
Highly recommended for the price.

This game is made so classic style that sometimes it seems as if it always existed, since your very childhood. Feels like it was pulled right out of the past in all the right ways.
I was gaming a little after the C64 (NES/SNES LOL) but its spot on with what old Good platformers felt like. Could fool me if you said it was a port/emulator. But its original and makes me want to see what else the Dev can do. Keep up the good work!

Game is very challenging, controls are very tight. Graphics and music are really retro, gives the feel of playing an old PC game. I was dead back then when comodore 64 was a thing, but i did played some old games on my futuristic horse cock computer. So yes it has that feel.
This game seem aimed to people who was alive during those c64 times or people who wants to experiment how it felt.
Great game, everything feels like an authentic C64 game but with a really smooth gameplay, highly recommended
This game is going for that 8-bit aesthetic and retro gameplay, and that comes with sluggish movement which is clearly intentional. As with many modern tributes to the 1980s, it insists on playing with with black borders to emulate that small screen experience. The game settings include the scanlines, gamepad support, skins for borders, and v-sync (I used 360 controller, but you have to enable it in the settings). You can also change the jumping controls, unless you really want to press UP to jump for sentimental reasons. The game comes with 2 difficulty choices and survival mode that is unlocked after completing the game. It's nice to see some steam achievements because many devs do not include them to keep the game faithful. It takes about 1 hour to finish the story on the "normal" mode, not as hard as you would expect. However, the C64 difficulty has faster projectiles, less health and more enemies (more fun in my opinion). It's not the best retro game out there, there is nothing special about it, but I don't have any issues with how it works. It's alright for a few hours if you want a "retro" challenge.

Overall Thoughts: 7/10
If you like those clunky platformers from C64 then you might enjoy it, although it's not for everyone. Honestly, the game is not too hard when compared to similar titles.
