It's a great 2D platformer with unique art style and some lite RPG mechanics.

          Pros
          - Cute and unique art style.
          - Fast-paced gameplay with simple and tight controls.
          - Great level variety. Each levels have some unique gimmicks.
          - Lots of weapons and each weapons have various moves.
          - Lots of enemy types.
          - Lots of rings and runes to upgrade/modify your abilities and weapons.
          - Challenging boss fights.
          - Good story pacing. Interesting game world.
          - Charming and funny characters.
          - You can play as either a boy or girl.
          - Lots of outfits for the protagonist.
          - The soundtrack is so AWESOME, the main theme is so catchy!
          - it took about 12h to beat on Normal in the first time i played. I think it's more than enough considering the price.

Cons(the former two are not really cons for me tho)
          - Gameplay-wise, it's not that different from its predecessor - Zeran's Folly, this game feels like its an big DLC rather than a sequel.
          - Might be too difficult for people who aren't familiar with 2D platformers.
          - Some minor issues(check the TIPS section below)

The story is self-contained so you don't need to played the predecessor first to understand the story.

Although, it might confuse you that some NPCs call you a Garnish or a radish. Garnish is a race of plant-like people that represent vegetables or fruits. And you're a violet radish garnish. There are various interesting races in this universe.

          TIPS
          - You can move camera by R-stick after you press the Unlock Camera button. However, some controllers use LT/RT instead of R-stick for some reason, so keep that in mind.
          - The default camera mode(Smart) is very difficult to play IMO as there's a delay in following player. Try using Fixed camera mode instead if you have problem with camera.
          - If you getting stuck on walls, try adjusting Physics Precision Reduction in the Gameplay options.
          - You can't go back to the tutorial level and the flying ship level once you beat them. Keep that in mind if you wanna do 100%.
          - For some reason, Borderless windowed mode makes graphics blurry. Play it on Fullscreen if it bothers you.

This game was quite a fun surprise to find and play.
It's a metroidvania with quite a lot of charm and humor, along with some sprinkles of lewd slapsticks here and there.
What probably shines the most is the amount of tech you can pull with the different weapons combined with movement skills, letting you play the game the way you want.
There are some minor clipping problems here and there, specially on curved platformers, but nothing game-breaking.
Buy it if you like freedom of movement in your platformers, or if the visuals/humor hit your fancy.
(Bonus points for adding minigames, specially Not-Puyo-Puyo)

          Great Game
A decent sequel to Zeran's Folly. The story is not as good and includes less mature content, but the gameplay is still ain't broken. More interesting enemies to fight along with more RPG elements.

It could be a nice metroidvania wannabe game but it is slightly weird. The levels have extremely cheap enemy, trap, spike, falls and such placements but it is almost never punishing you for making a mistake because enemies often drop health, your health bar increases by finding secrets chests hidden which aren't hard to discover, you become very tanky, and you have a decent amount of invincibility frames when you are hit, and you get a health potion which fully cures your health twice which is basically like you have 3 lives in total and there is an upgrade that refills your potion in time. I'm very sorry to say this but the level design, for the game not punishing you for anything and giving you very high amounts of life and healing, turns out to be something totally useless: The entire gameplay consists of skipping every obstacle on your way by getting hit and occasionally hitting an enemy or two to get a health bar. There is a gameplay walkthrough speedrun video on youtube by the game developer himself and if you watch it you'll get what I mean. Hitting spikes, enemies, falling to bottom and such have no considerable impact on your success. Why make a very difficult and cheap level design then make it completely easy to beat by simply tanking everything by running and jumping forward until you reach next checkpoint which completely refills your health bar and even which allows you to travel back to town to refill your potions too. I just don't get it.

Zeran's Folly was great game, but I had bit hard time figuring out how to recomend since it's sense of humor wasn't really for everyone. I'm still planning to review that one too eventually, though I think I have to play it again at this point because I don't remember all details anymore. Anyway, I wasn't too bothered by Zeran's Folly's humor even if it wasn't to my tastes(though I did find it type of humor kind of refreshing simply because you don't often see it in games), but to lot of people it might have just been too annoying. Leoward is much easier to recomend in that respect. Don't get me wrong, humor is still raunchy/crude/vulgar/childish/edgy/shocking/offensive/dark, but at least three of the Zeran's Folly's bosses were genital jokes and I remember game being really try hard about throwing it at your face. Leowald's use of humor feels more mature in comparison, its still vulgar, dark and sometimes offensive, but its feels more balanced and I feel it was less distracting than in the first game.

Plot wise game is kinda weird since its exactly as advertised: Zeran's Folly's protagonist's kids first adventure. Game's tone feels much lighter in comparison(helps that people around you are adventurers and not criminals) though it gets really dark at the end. Dark enough that on next playthrough I'm gonna check if there is anything you can do to avoid that since geez that got dark. But yeah, similarly like in first game, you are looking for macguffins, but unlike in first game were artifact hunt turned suddenly serious, this game's plot remains to be about adventure and there isn't really a main villain or a mystery. Its honestly nice to have a lower stakes plot.

Gameplaywise its pretty similar, still fast paced platforming, combat, its difficult and fun. I do kinda miss party members though, this time you just get more weapons rather than party members with different abilities. Content wise its comparable to Zeran's Folly before updates added lot of post game content and other side content, dunno yet if devs plans to make more content to this game but I wouldn't be surprised.

A polished and charming platformer with interesting characters and a story that keeps you saying "just one more quest...". My 30-minute test turned into a nearly 3-hour sesh, and I just installed the game today!

Of the few weapons I've unlocked (there appear to be 8 or 9), they have very different playstyles, and with the weapon levelling mechanic it offers up a variety of ways to play. There is an equipment mechanic that allows for some interesting combinations of perks and buffs, as well as a few that increase the challenge for you masochists out there.

The enemies don't feel overbearing, and when you take a hit you're kicking yourself because you knew that wouldn't work!. Of the boss fights I've tried, my favorite one was the "breakout" golem. Super cool mechanic and I nearly died during that fight. Combat in general can get hectic if you're rushing through a zone, but it doesn't feel like a slog when you take baddies on one-on-one.

For being 3 hours in, levels are varied and don't feel same-y. I was able to dash-jump through one entire zone without getting knicked by anything, and there were other zones where no matter how fast I tried to go, I always had to slow down and focus or my HP would certainly suffer. The platforming feels nice and smooth, allowing for both Super-Meat-Boy-style precision but with Megaman-style forgiveness if your aim isn't the best like mine.

All in all, Leowald is a great addition to any steam library. Take my advice and give this gem a try, you can thank Kilzek's folks me later!

Oh, also, shoutout to the Dev for a certain common baddie. Blue hedgehogs? I see what you did there! lol

I enjoyed every second of playing this game. Leowald is some kind of metroidvania-adventure-platformer with lots of likable and unique characters and interesting dialogue. The art style is cute and neat and the music varies between different interesting styles, while still keeping a common theme.

If you are new to this game, play it on easy mode, as even the normal mode is really challenging and you might get frustrated and you cannot change it later.

          Pros:
          * fully rebindable controls, keyboard & gamepad
          * the characters and the story are interesting I always wanted to know more
          * vivid colors, cute artstyle
          * interesting puzzles, especially the bosses. it's not just hack n slash for them
          * lots of rings and ways to change or upgrade your abilities and weapons
          * great soundtrack
          * moving and combat feels good, animations are fluid
          * YOU CAN PET THE BADGER
          * you can choose your gender

          Cons:
          * have to do some stuff over and over if you die (not enough savepoints)
          * the easy difficulty is the normal one, the normal one is hard and the hard one is impossible and you cannot change the difficulty later.

All in all, I really recommend picking up this game. It's solid, fun, worth the price and a lot of love has been put into it.
