The Long Drive

This game is just sheer ridiculous fun. However you play it, you'll always end up laughing. Sometimes at how silly things can get, sometimes with utter frustration at how impossible something might be (no fuel, no food, no water, a car that wants to kill you for whatever reason it decides that you must reach for the sky like buzz lightyear dementor only to find mortality like a chump), whatever the reason, you'll end up laughing and that is why this game is so good.

What is a beta game without constant crashing? I say not fun.

This game is really fun with friends (if you get the multiplayer to work that is) I'm always finding new stuff so you won't get bored. For example i found a way to visit the heavens without dying by using a neat technique to use my engine like the silver surfer does his surfboard. Even if you don't have friends the radio is very weird, strange and funny.

Bought it a while ago to play it with someone, didn't work at all, multiplayer was buggy and a horrible experience overall so I refunded it.
Recently saw that it got some updates and we'll it definitely made it better, way less bugs, some new content here and there but absolutely playable and enjoyable.
I'd suggest new players to change the steam settings to the latest beta tests so you can be up to date with everything because not every little update is announced on steam and some you'll only see in game.
Yes the game doesn't look modern at all, it's poorly optimised and is still a long drive away from being complete but it's lots of fun for sure.
I'd also suggest to joining their discord as the community is really nice and you can easily get some tips for starters there.
10/10 would recommend.

The game is fun yet buggy but I have learned to get used to it. They fixed multiplayer which was a huge relief as its where I mostly play the game. I recommend it to the people that just want a relaxing and fun game.

the game is amazing, however there is one big problem i have, one in which i have infact already rage quitted. bikes are undrivable. the cars are pretty easy to understand and modify, its recommended to watch a engine tutorial as it can be quite confusing for some people considering how every engine runs diffrently (like me cuz i have no idea about engines), i play on peaceful and the ride truly is a peaceful and enjoyable ride (besides the pesky ufo that runs along the road at times, turns my poor radio off ;-;) though, i guess one more complaint i do have, having to figure out which setting it was that caused me to feel motion sick, the head bobbing parts, took me quite a while to figure out which settings i had to turn off.

very great graphics also very great mods by other players or creators

this game is fun if you have a good computer (what i need) and if you can find the mods section it can be even better! Overall really fun

it is one of those games where if you don't know what to do then you can garenty that you can just play this for hours without getting bored.
instead you rage quite when you crash and you have to reassemble your car (again)
10/10 would recommend to people who have to much time.

Had an amazing road trip in a windowless black van, illegally modified it, and fused my skull with the dash going about 180 miles an hour into a tree.

its fun, straight forward and simple while still being rich with content, easter eggs and endless random fun

Very addicting game,I like finding new cars and swapping parts,was driving a bus loaded with barrels of fuel and oil for the longest time,had it loaded with extra motors and parts,would definitely recommend this game

Truly a master class in the realm of video games. It truly demonstrates why video games should be considered art. From the ultra-realistic driving mechanics, to the in-depth character creator, to the extremely immersive survival and building mechanics, this game truly demonstrates what it means to create something timeless. I would absolutely, positively 100% recommend this life changing experience to everyone I know and everyone I will meet.

After 55 hours and countless mods I always find myself returning to this game and playing for hours, multiplayer is better in my opinion.

I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND against buying this game in its current state. It's simply not worth the money.

The devs care more about making another Discord server than releasing updates.

if and when they do come out, the updates improve very little and mostly break things that were working fine in the previous releases.

The game had a lot of potential, but now it's a pisstake. Avoid it.

I would only recommend buying this game if you are completely fine with the current state and are not expecting any further updates. The newest update which took 17 months made the game quite literally worse than its current state with barely any meaningful additions. I am assuming another update will come in a similar timeframe. The game currently offers some enjoyment but it gets very repetitive very fast, as stated before devs aren't really doing anything meaningful to alleviate the issue.

Singleplayer is great and enjoyable, but ever since they tried implementing multiplayer the game has been heavily flawed. in the new beta, they have decided to cut out content and replace it with a new terrain system. this terrain system feels more like a rollercoaster, which is fun but the multiplayer still sucks. at this point, i'd make the items rely on a gui inventory. as it wouldn't glitch mp out, you can add crates to the car anyways so it wouldn't lower functionality. overall, at this pace the game would be finished even later than GTA 6.

Not Recommended

The Long Drive has an interesting concept, and the gameplay can be enjoyable at first, but I can’t recommend it after spending more time with it.

One of the biggest issues is the complete lack of communication from the developers. They rarely interact with the community on Steam, only posting something right before they release an update. The silence between updates is frustrating, leaving players in the dark for months at a time. And when the updates finally arrive (only about once a year), they’re underwhelming at best.

Instead of introducing exciting new content, the updates barely add any new items or features to the game. It feels like the developers are doing the bare minimum. To make matters worse, each update tends to come with a host of new bugs, so any excitement for new content is quickly overshadowed by fresh technical issues. You’re basically left waiting another year, hoping the next patch will fix things.

Additionally, the community management leaves a lot to be desired. There have been reports of players being banned from discussions for seemingly minor reasons or no reason at all, and it often feels like constructive criticism is not well received. It doesn’t create a very welcoming environment for players who want to engage or provide feedback.

For a game that’s updated so infrequently and introduces so little when it does, I can’t justify recommending The Long Drive. Until the devs start communicating, fixing bugs properly, and adding more meaningful content, I’d say skip this one.

Pretty interactive but not chill at all - it could be but right now it's too complicated and there's too much jank. I got killed by a door while trying to carry it to my car then started shitting everywhere and ate my own shit because the camera ended up stuck. You can detach pieces of your car and attach other things and place items in the car for later use. There's room for imagination and getting creative. There's some fun to be had I guess if it wasn't so frustrating. Needs some kind of tutorial and definitely needs a lot of TLC before it can be considered playable - feels very much like an Alpha. Cool concept but 100% not worth full price currently. 😢

So last year April 21 2023 is when the update hit.
Since then it has been a "silence" in the devs own words.

Finally after one and a half years an update has come out in Beta.
It has 1. Removed power polls so you have no idea where you are going at any time.
2. Introduced junctions with up to 5 different roads meeting. No fucking clues given to where or which road you are supposed to take. 3. Buildings are very far inbetween now so good luck finding parts, fuel and funny stuff. 4. The normal "world" you are supposed to drive in is 100000% flat even though they talk about a new terrain generator. 5. Grass, rocks, stones on the road, animals EVERYTHING that made the world feel a little alive is gone. 6. Multiplayer is still broken even though dev says its been improved.

I dont care that Moonmoon and whoever else streams it.
Keep away from this product until they fix the game.
You wont have a fun time with your friends, it wont be a roadtrip YET.
For now its just a hassle.

Buy it 100% WHEN ITS GOOD AND READY.

Yeah this game is buggy, ugly, and doesn't have a ton of depth compared to games like 'My Summer Car' or 'Mon Bazou'. But compared to those games there's something relaxing about the slow burn pace of 'The Long Drive'. There's nothing quite like what this game has to offer and I hope it keeps getting support.

The idea of the game is pretty fun, but the game itself is full of bugs that won't get fixed for years and it gets pretty boring and repeatable after a while. Multiplayer completely unplayable. Also after driving the 5000km (what is the goal here) there is NOTHING, nothing happens, just big disappointment.
Not worth the money IMO, maybe when its like 70% off.
I've looked into the positive reviews and many of them look like they've been added by bots, what's not surpising.

very fun. needs a bit more lore and might need some bug fixes. for example everything gets yeeted out the back of the truck with one small rock hit. none the less stunning game and i drink gasoline :)

The Long Drive is a good game for an incredibly specific kind of person, and a bad game for everyone else. Once you get a feel for the janky controls, the janky game mechanics, and the janky everything else, you'll either find yourself having fun or kicking yourself for dropping 10bux on this janky ass game. Is it a good game? I don't know. Will you have fun playing it? Maybe. For some reason, I've dropped 5 hours into it, and I really wouldn't mind dropping 5 more. Try it out maybe

Game is super fun, but has quite a lot of bugs.

Having enough room for everything is an issue. I like having trailers to keep my stuff in, but if you pause the game or break too hard the trailers FLING EVERYWHERE. You usually have to reload a save or find EVERYTHING that flung off your car.

The camper trailers are pretty useless, they don't keep everything in one spot like a regular 2 wheeled trailer. If you have a bed in there and make one wrong turn, the ENTIRE thing is flying out of that trailer. Same goes for the flatbed.

Car tires also go under the map if you're not careful putting them on the trailer.

Otherwise 10/10 game, super fun for whats basically a road-trip simulator.

I recommend this singleplayer game despite its bugs, because as it stands, it's an experience worth $10.

A lot of fun little things. It's kind of glitchy.
If you find all you need, you basically drive forever.
The road is 5000km, and it doesn't change as you go.
The curves are procedurally generated, so are the random gas stations and whatnot, which is nice.
There's still not enough content. Nothing really happens as you drive on that road.
There's something beautiful about it. It's relaxing unlike any other game.
There's no nudity, but you'll encounter some profane stuff.
You can smoke, drink, eat shit, piss, fart and shit.

The very best part of this game is how everything is hands-on.
You manually interact with everything, and you can do multiple things at the same time.

Multiplayer is always a while away. Developer is vague about it, but says it's difficult.
Fanbase consists of liberal sociopaths who serve as a tornado to sweep dissent away from developers.
Don't wait for multiplayer, it's likely to never come. Fans will say it already exists in beta, but it's been the same ever since. Everything is desynchronised, the physics explodes as soon as you touch anything, connection is weird.
This has never changed one bit. If you buy this, don't buy it for multiplayer.

Oh, and for some reason, the latest Steam version makes everything stutter.
I have thousands of kilometers driven on an older version.
Probably not a problem you will ever encounter.
The performance of this game is fantastic.
The demand on my CPU/GPU is like a fullscreen 1080p YouTube video in Chrome.

I used to play GTA: San Andreas Multiplayer, where I would take a car and wander around with friends. This game is similar, but even better—the roads are endless, and after driving for a long time, you might end up at a house with crazy people. You arrive hungry or out of gas, try to steal something, and they attempt to kill you, and so on.

find the coolest car yet it is too small
find a truck that can carry the car so you have both the car AND space
chuck pallets everywhere on the truck so you have even more space
fall over after 2 minutes because it is top heavy
start meticulously cleaning and putting everything back
drive 2 minutes fall over gain
after 15 hours drive 50 km
get killed by rabbit

10/10 would hoard shit just to lose it again

Honestly this game looks like complete ass, but there's a certain charm to about driving down an empty highway listening to royalty free rock music and a radio host who's having a schizophrenic episode.

I was driving passenger in horrible frame rate when we hit a rock, flew on top of a telephone pole and lost the car, had to walk for an hour to get another car, then got attacked by a ufo. 10/10

Yes, The Long Drive does indeed have VR support. It's unofficial VR, experimental VR support that is found in the Beta tab under Properties (choose vrtest). Keep in mind, motion controllers are not supported and this is indeed very experimental and it's unlikely to ever be updated & improved. I hope I'm wrong about that though.

The biggest issue is performance. On my RTX 3080, I was getting variable frame rates from 40-90 fps. For whatever reason, I wasn't able to get into the settings in VR and adjust the graphics either.

I played with both KBM and gamepad. I would definitely recommend playing the game in non-VR and getting used to the controls & gameplay before trying it out in VR. I would only recommend this if you already own the game and have the VR headset. I would not recommend you buy it for the VR because the VR support is very rudimentary.

Despite simplistic graphics on the surface, it has pretty deep vehicle mechanics and very addictive slow paced gameplay, perfect for listening to a podcast or in-game radio while having a long drive. Love collecting car parts in a randomly generated world and create a monster out of mismatching engine and wheels. Dev, if you are reading this, thank you and please expand on the game, as it for sure is deserving of early access badge at the moment. This solid idea can be so much more with bugs and collisions fixed and more customization and car models added.

This game is like your first car: nasty, rusty, full of trash and bugs, and more than likely needs a complete rebuild. But without all the bugs, trash, and rust, you would lose the soul of it.

Getting to the end isn't a celebratory achievement. It's depressing knowing your journey is over, nowhere to go except into the vast nothingness of the map. All that's left to do is to make your final save, and exit the game until you yearn to play it again the next year.

Here's hoping the game gets an update in the next year or 4. 7/10 would Drive very Long again.

A good entertaining game. If you are a little bored then play this. Only sad part about this is the lack of a working multiplayer mode. I feel like that would really bring this game to the next level.

Shame on this game for having such a toxic discord comunnittyy. I loved this game but there are no updates and i was banned from the discord server for no reason at all. I never spoke a word. I am very sad. It was a bad day and i wanted to play this game with my friends, the first thing i see when i go to talk to my ggs is the ban. My day is ruined and my dissapoiment is inmesurable. Its a really fun game and very immersive and interactive i just wish there was a vr port i could use idk if there is one but yes you should buy this game cuz when it gets boring just install mods problem solved!

Game seems great, too bad it doesn't seem to allow for multiple peripherals to work together in the game. My steering wheel, h-shifter, handbreak and pedals are all from different companies and use one usb input each, so only one can be detected at a time. Really hope this gets fixed.
