The Long Drive

This game feels so real, i finally come across a realistic car game!

i cant wait for the next update just like everyone else. however, this game has a sort of charm that you cant find anywhere other than from a small indie dev, this is shown in how subtly different this game is from Drive Beyond Horizons yet how much better its mechanics and artwork functionally feel and mesh with the environment. It still needs a lot of work to be perfect but its currently one of my favorite games.

I bought this game to play with my friends. Then they sold back because we couldn t play in multiplayer. Then they didn t even try to solve it so if you have friends like mine don t buy this game. (I think i need to find new friends...) This might be a good game so plss fix the multiplayer

with just barely over 30 hours in this game i can confidently say that this isn't a very polished game, there's maybe 10 or 20 structures and the gameplay loop is repetitive. at this point the only things keeping it alive are the few youtubers who still put up videos on it and the modding community, from where I stand this seems like the devs kinda just released it and stopped updating and supporting it as soon as it was stable.

A good game, but not worth it's full price for now. The game is still being developed but since it's made by a small team updates are very scarce. Gameplay is fun but it gets very repetitive very quickly.

Also do not join the game's discord, as its moderators are quite annoying.

Physics are a bit janky, and the rabbits are terrifying, but honestly that's what makes the game so enjoyable

The team behind this was really onto something with this one - there's nothing else quite like it.

Unfortunately, it's apparently abandonware and absolutely not in anything resembling a finished state.

This game is brilliantly stupid...

This game is more than just a driving game, it offers a fun and relatively unrealistic experience that allows you to carve your own path and leaving you to make your own decisions. It is very easy to understand how to play the game making it perfect for anyone. The play style is completely endless allowing for creative and new way to play the game every time you boot it up. This game really shines when playing with friends, offering a completely new life to it and the additional mods you can download completely transform the game into something that matches your needs and wants. Overall this game is for anyone. Even though this game is based around vehicular activities and driving you don't need to be completely invested to enjoy yourself and I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about buying it.

This game is just awesome, the broken physics to shitty animations and bugs its an amazing game to play with a buddy or two, go in fuck around and leave. As of i know (and correct me if im wrong) there is no end goal to the game except not dying to starvation and hydration. 7/10

The lowest quality and jankiest game I have ever had the displeasure of playing. I hit a rock and my car exploded. The entire experience felt like a bad acid trip. 10/10 with friends.

Dead game. No major update for 2 years, beta branch update was over 6 months ago and it only made the game more broken. Complete silence from the devs.

Been sitting on this game for a few years now, hoping it would be finished or even have multiplayer fixed and running without desync or bugs, yet im giving up.

i have only a few hours on this and they where fun however the game offers no more than a few hours at best without multiplayer or more to do and bugs being fixed.

its mid 2025 now and if you like the idea of a game where you drive and fix a car up with any spare parts and try to survive spend the extra £5 and get Drive Beyond Horizon, its everything this should have been and much more polished.

game is almost completely dead in terms of development. it hasn't had any big updates in ages, feels like it's in late alpha and is only fun for at very maximum 2 hours. Would NOT recommend to buy on full price

It definitely is THE game for someone, but I just can't bring myself to enjoy it.

The game's humor is very much on par with something like Goat SImulator - the game is janky and it embraces it. Where is diverts's is in the "adult" part of humor - read, youe character has to empty their bowels and bladder, it creates pieces crap and that is supposed to be funny. Oh and there is a blow up doll prop, it doesn't do anything, but the dev was probably pissing himself with laughter when modelling it. Lovely.
You cannot play survival mode without the awful toilet mechanics. If you want any hunger and thirst management, prepare to have your ears assaulted by some of the vilest sounds ever recorded.
It's also one of those "forever stuck in early access" affairs. There might be more updates down the line, there might not be, who knows.

Only buy if you subscribe to author's particular fetishes. Or if you plan to stream it on twitch to farm bits.

Game appears to have been abandoned. Was fun for a while but multiplayer still doesn't work well enough to justify playing more. Better options out there that do work better. Maybe I'll change my opinion on this game if it starts getting updates again.

Great game, very relaxing but also creepy at times, controls could be a bit better, physics, and more gameplay. Also multiplayer barely works and needs to be improved on a lot, and more mechanics in a car would be pretty cool, but other than that I completely recommend this for singleplayer and I hope the game keeps getting some great updates in the future.

Fun goofy game. You can go full schizo and make up stories of your adventure, go full roleplay mode.

A fun game. Would recommend. Runs great on Linux (CachyOS). Would love to see a native linux version (It's 2025 and most games are supporting SteamDeck anyway), especially as it is a Unity game and Unity can easily output a linux version at export. But it's a solo dev so I get they don't want to have the linux community to deal with as well.

i agree with Sarovski, go play "Drive Beyond Horizons" because atleast they care to inform players of road maps, updates and future development. where as Gene just doesn't care about TLD. hence why he makes ha=lf baked updates for TLD, and with every update he pushes. the game doesnt improve, it never has since 2019. this game is just as broken as it was in the beginning. with minor updates to content claiming "we cant read our own spaghettified code". DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. BUY DRIVE BEYOND HORIZONS. that gamer is better polished. has more than a single person developing the game, and it actually is stable. ie vehicles dont wack out when you tow them. like in this buggy game. and the game "drive beyond horizons" is actually PLAYABLE

Game is a lot of fun but has no updates. I recommend wait until the official launch and watch for more updates.

100 kilometers later, it's pretty good.
The customization and the basic premise of the game makes it entertaining.

This game doesnt receive any updates, last update was in beta branch back in november 2024.

I trully regret buying it for full price, since there is no frequent updates and mods doesnt help that much to enjoy this game more than 5-10 hours.

Better go buy Drive beyong horizon or whatever it's called, basically the same game but has a lot more potential since developers doing something.

UPD: To be honest I thought I was too harsh on this game, but I loaded up the beta branch to check what dev added and how it plays - I wasnt too harsh. This game belongs in the garbage bin, 6 years of development and it still feels like an early alpha.

i recently go this game to give it a try and i can say I'm pretty disappointed. This game is dead with not much to it. There are some rabbits and weird zombie like humans that'll attack but its very very easy to kill them. outside of the rare enemy find, you'll basically just drive, maybe pick up some stuff, maybe swap a pos car for another pos car, and get totally lost in the vapid, empty world. If this game was $5.00 or less it might, MIGHT be worth it then. until then its just a poorly executed that had a new and cool concept.

When an early access game like this hasn't had an update in over 2 years... I should get my money back. How is it "Early Access" if it is completely abandoned before "release".

It has issues now big time. The view will randomly lock and not unlock even after reset. The bugs are just numerous and the game is broken as hell. Was kind of fun for a bit but now its just a trash heap.

I won't deny that I've enjoyed this game, but that was back when I had hope for the future of this game. That hope is all but gone. You likely won't find updates here, look elsewhere if you're after a cared for game.

There hasn't been significant development on this game in the past few years, and anything over 60hz causes the physics engine to miscalculate

It is really buggy, which can be fun in multiplayer, but a lot of the time it is just annoying.

Alpha build review: It is a good game to play while you have a podcast going or watching a tv show on the side. with co-op it is a perfect comedy game, if you have a group of friends you want to just hang out and be dumb it is a perfect game for that.

I think by the full release it will be more detailed and more functions with cars and the open road, as it stands it is a bit "empty" but the dev is adding more and more.

It was good before the developers broke the game and abandoned it. I can't recommend it anymore. If you want to try the experience or come back as an old player, there is a new game with very similar mechanics called "Drive Beyond Horizons", feels more polished and gets updates at least.

TL:DR, Wasted Potential.

Starting with positives because people stop reading halfway.
-This game's concept is really cool, the gameplay loop is addicting when you get into it and no wonder why it dominated the Roblox platform twice, (a dusty trip/dead rail). I actually first discovered from joeseppi with his long drive part 1 and it portrayed it as an interesting game where you survive and drive.
-The physics may not be the best from what other people has said and some of my experience, but at least I can put stuff in the car without needing to attach it so it doesnt fly off (hint to another game platform).
-And the mechanics on how to survive, like the fuels, car parts, food, enemies, and relying on buildings to get those resources keeps the gameplay interesting.

Negatives (I know the game is still in "Early access" but that doesn't mean it's immune to criticism)
-It's boring as hell. After driving for a very long time, it's just not interesting anymore and the same thing, there's a reason why the boring part of road trips are the driving parts. There is no end goal, which sure can be fun to see how long you can last, but really though in its current state it's boring, everything is repetitive. At least in another survival open world sandbox game, aka minecraft, there are many areas in the game you can really enjoy (redstone/multiplayer minigames).
-No multiplayer? Yes I know there's a beta, but why is multiplayer not a main part of this game? This game feels like it's better built with multiplayer survival, heck that's the whole reason why "a dusty trip" and "dead rail" became so popular (despite me not liking them as much).
-Not taking itself too seriously. There's a lot of joke stuff in the game which can be funny but it ruins a lot of the immersion and it's hard to tell if you want us to treat this game as a cool unique game or a joke. For example being the voice lines for the enemies like this could've been great potential to drop lore or unsettling emotions to the player, but no they decide to go with like "I wanted to die anyways" whatever. I'm not sure how long they spent mucking around with these jokes compared to working on the actual game to make it better and finished, but come on it's been 2 years since an official update. Yes devs can muck around and have fun and I agree with that, but there are some times you gotta be serious.
-It's falling behind. Basically, "A long road", the Roblox version has unironically become better than this game. Challenging but more interesting to explore buildings. Does it's "jokes" whenever it doesn't need to be serious (e.g feastibles bar as food in the abandoned store), and literally has car battery management, windshield wipers, playable buttons inside the car etc. The redeeming part is that this game has better physics than "A Long Road", due to Roblox's bad physics engine, and more car customizations.
-Where are the updates? I'm glad they at least update us on their progress on their steampage... well last one being 5 months ago as of writing this, but come on guys.
-Bad UI. Again, I know it's Early Access and I'm sure the devs will change it to make it better, but man not only it's inconsistent, like the discord button vs the newspaper button, but it's just honestly ugly and looks like a bloatware game.
-Not really beginner friendly. I'm not a car expert but I did have some background knowledge on how this game worked. But a lack of tutorial at the start of the game, like how Dead Rails has one, to teach the basics on how to start the car would really help. Luckily, I had a car friend to help me identify what car parts needs what, what type of liquid it takes and how to do other stuff with the car, but really though, if your game needs an external source (like a wiki or tutorial) on how to do things that isn't said in the game, then that's just bad game design.
-Graphics. The graphics are both hit or miss, like sometimes it looks really cool like the screenshots I sent to my friends, and some time it looks like an asset flip. Like the phone is just flat, while the rest looks normal, the car looks cool, but your player model is.. what the heck? It doesn't help when I found out some of the paintings were AI generated BUT that's my anti-ai bias so I'll let that slide because some people support AI.

Overall, if the Long Drive kept getting worked on and the devs took the game more seriously, then I'm sure this will be an amazing game. Joeseppi advertised the game really well I'm sure the devs earned a good enough of money from that to hire some people to work on some aspects of the game. But until then, the Roblox version "A Long Road" has unironically become better and more fun to play than "The Long Drive". Thankfully I only spent around 20% of its original price.

There is nothing more to say about it.

Devs are deaddroping ass updates once in a century and there is absolutely no hope that it will ever be finished.

I bought this crap in the first place because it scratched my specific autistic itch about cars, please spend your money elsewhere.
