About the Game
This is a road trip game in an almost infinite random generated desert. The focus is on freedom, driving, exploration and immersion. It has minimal car maintenance and survival elements.Infinite Desert, Freedom and Driving:
There are no invisible walls or unable to jump over small fences, or blinking red "wrong direction" signs on the hud. The car won't need 10-20 liter fuel over just only a few hundred meters, with a full tank, you could go approximately 500 kilometers. If you see a distant big mountain, you can go there and if you are capable, you can climb it. If you don't like where the mirrors are facing you can adjust them however you want or throw them away while driving at full speed. If you want to lean out of the car, or closer to the radio or near anything, you can.

I bought the long drive a long time ago, and I enjoyed it immensely, it is a funny albeit janky game and can be a good way to relax. Or at least it was.
If you wanting to just play the game as is, then I encourage you to get it and enjoy it. It is a good game and will give you hours of enjoyment.
However if your thinking of modding the game (Like many do because randomly appearing boulders that can destroy everything you've spent hours gathering get annoying after a while) then it's probably best to go somewhere else, as the developers are making what was once an easy process near impossible, locking it behind a phone wall with discord. Which some players can access, whilst many others can not.
I have tried asking for help from the developer, to see if they can do something about it for the many people who now cannot access the modloader or the larger community at large for help. But after ignoring the post in the discussion thread just relied "no" and they locked the thread so no one could post on it.
Lately the developers have taken a different turn after one of their discord severs got destroyed, just ignoring people or flat out blocking them.
So know that this game is strictly single player only without the mod loader and the developers have become less than helpful or even friendly in the way they talk. If single player is good for you then go for it and enjoy the many hours of janky play you will have, sometimes you'll hate it. Othertimes you'll love it, just know what your getting yourself into before you buy it.
My first gameplay, my car veered to the right nothing happened, my car failed, i parked in a gas station, no gas, my car left, I sank to the ground.

I have loved playing it for the last two hours but have found it frustrating using MKB. I spent just as long trying to get a controller to work. I want to play it more, but without controller support, I don't see myself coming back to it.
I would only recommend it to people who are comfortable using MKB, not to people who prefer using a controller.

It's a game about driving. Best when played in a vc alongside all of your other friends who are also playing this game solo. Good bonding material. Don't buy for full price.

No goal other than survive but yet some of the most fun I've had on a game in a while. Solo its just a chill game that you can mess around in for hours, The beta versions allows for multiplayer and it becomes a very fun game to play with friends.
If your intention is to play this game with friends, then I, unfortunately, do not recommend the game. The multiplayer is borderline unplayable with how buggy and laggy everything is. I tried playing the game with my nephew on a local connection, and even that was borderline unplayable.
It's unfortunate, because I really want to enjoy the game. There isn't a lot to do in the game, but it's one of those games where the social experience with friends can make some great moments. But oh well. I'll try revisit it when the multiplayer aspect is more stable and hopefully that will turn my review around. Allowing comments on this review incase somebody brings it back to my attention when things are more put together, in terms of the multiplayer experience.

This game has very little to offer as an experience. extremely easy, generated structures are very repetitive. Even creating my own goals had me boring very quickly.
This is quite a good game, however, i think it needs more stuff to be more fun and entertaining. I'd also say this game needs more optimization, like if the game is lagging it sort of stutters and it is really annoying. Overall, this game is good but does need work.
A game not to miss it looked bland at first but the mechanics at beautiful it is a blast when you hit a rock and go flying the game runs smoothly and glitches are still to be seen as a final comment the variety of cars is amazing from buses to pickups to hot rods,bugs,tow trucks,vans and more this game has plenty of replayability

the long drive is a good game if you time to for a building to spawn but still this game wonderful and think every should play.
After around 250KMs, I decided to write this review.
The game is REALLY fun at first, when you dont have much food/gas/water/oil, but as soon as you find a house or two and you have a good amount of items, it gets pretty boring. I'll still admit its fun no matter what, but once you are well off, the only thing you can do if find another car.
Ive been running with a bus for a while now, and I could go probably around 500km without stopping.
My feedback is that difficulties would be nice. They could effect how many building spawn, and how much loot they contain. Adding some sort of building other than with wooden palates would be nice.
honestly, the only downside is gameplay can get a bit repetetive, but other than that i enjoy the long drive
The Long Drive is a simple game that I definitely enjoyed in 2024, even thought it came out in 2019.
The base premise of the game is you get to drive a car, and drive the entire length of a road, that is 5,000 miles, as per the Early Access FAQ. The best thing is, there is the option to choose a peaceful option to not deal with environmental hazards. That was super duper nice. I have played with world stuff, which are automatically generated, but I can ignore them if I want and continue on. Getting gas is a nice gimmick.
Sometimes I feel the controls are in need of a touch up. Its very easy to turn slightly to follow the curvature of the road, and easily drive into the environment, having to drive back up on the road.
I drove on the road and have gotten so far in the game. At the end of the road, it was I get to screenshot it and show proof on the discord for an exclusive role.
Also, the interface is minimal, but I understand its only one person working on it, so its not entirely unexpected to feature a style interface from the late 1990s or 2000s. Still though, neatly organised. I also appreciate the variety of cars show. The few kinds of cars available is cool, even though the dev didn’t add many despite the numerous suggestions in the feedback thread on the Steam discussions board reaching a whole load.
Some of the combat was fun. Finding stuff to fight. That was great.
Verdict: I give this a 8/10, mostly because its still in early access. And a few things to need to be polished a bit more in order to smooth things out. A few times, you can see the Main Character is extremely flimsy so you can see empty space where a body is, but that’s not exactly the main point. The music is great. I semi wish there was a slight mention of tutorial but not really that important.
Fun? Good enough. I found it kinda fun as a simple peaceful game, but with a car. I like it overall. ii
Also, to mention, the game is in early access, since 2019. It has updated a few times by its creator Gene and is evidence by the numerous beta branches it has. It has been decent so far and I truly like it. The game could be better in some way, but it is good for what it is so far. I applaud the effort and would be proud of it.
Of course, Are there any negatives? No comment on that portion. It would be unfair to list negatives from me since the game is still early access, so I will only speak of stuff that needs to be improved upon, of which I already covered above. If you the reader need to know negatives, I suggest the reader buy the games with his/her own money and personally experience the game to know if it is a good time to play.
Random suggestion, get the game on sale. The price will go up when it leaves Early Access so, the price is already at a “discount”.
And thus, concludes my review of The Long Drive while it is still in early access. I will update the review further some time after the 1.0 full release. I look forward to upcoming changes in the game.
This game has a lot of potential, but the main issue with it, it's the devs.
Don't let my 43hrs record fool you, I've played this game for more than 300hrs.
The issue is, this game does not get updated as much as it should, it's almost the exact same game as when it first came out in 2019, that is 5 years ago. The only updates for this game added barely anything, and they've been working on remaking the road generation for the past 3 years and it's still not out.
I am extremely disappointed in this game and especially it's developers.
They rarely ever add anything, and the community is slowly but surely dying.

its not an action packed game if youre looking for one, but its an amazing game with a unique experience.
takes a bit of getting used to the controls at the beginning. but once you get a hang of it you can do ANYTHING you want.
if you want, you can drive with a spare engine in the backseat in case you will need to replace it in your car or a barrel of gas so you will never run out of it (or both if you manage to fit them inside your car). i've just started but it looks great.
the only small downside ive seen so far is that sometimes you need to drive quite a while before you see something, but then again, it is The Long Drive.
a very interesting concept of a game where you take your car from your garage with some supplies like whatever gas.....a bb gun, and a bunch of other knick knacks and you just go on an apocalyptic deserted roadtrip to an endless road to hell. trust nothing, mutated talking zombies and wererabbits are coming to slice your guts open and feast on you if you're not careful and leave yourself stranded in the middle of nowhere.
This game is really fun
but with friends its even more fun

A silly game with a simple goal and a great community to boot. While it may be still in development, the pick up and play nature of this game ensures you can come back to it and drop it off at any moment. Excited to see what the devs have in store for future updates!

Great game with great potential, but at the moment, the game gets boring after 200 km. You have any car you possibly want with any engine and in what ever condition you desire. Plenty of food, water, 200l of gas in the trunk, you don't need to really stop. The car doesn't deteriorate, once you have it in prestine condition, it will remain and I think that's wrong. Where is the challange after 200km? No real goal except for reaching 5000 km. It would be much better with engine wear with possibility of seizing it, parts deteriotating, tires may be punctured and need to be replaced, battery,.. you name it. I sure hope it will be once this fun!

I cannot begin to explain how fun this game is either your driving then you crash and everything you have dissapears or you get strangled by a zombie on a bunch of sex dolls. This game is the best

Honestly so underrated in terms of value here. I played this game WAY more than I thought I would. Once you get past the jank the details in this game are great! The amount of customization you can do with your car and bike are plentiful and can have you searching for that perfect ride for hours... Multiplayer is also a blast with friends, albiet a little jank too but that's honestly part of the fun! Would definitely recommend giving it a try for yourself, I think you'll find that it has more depth than how it may seem on the surface.
i would recommend this game to anyone. this game has very little bugs, and has a very solid multiplayer, with very few flaws. it was definitly worth the 30 dollars i spent on it. (for me and gifting to friends)
Go into the beta build for Multiplayer and it just becomes a "silly road trip with friends" game and it's honestly perfect at it.
I would recommend this game due to the little things, such as adjustable mirrors and rolling down windows, even the radios work! With ten hours under my belt, I would really suggest this game, and hope if you do buy it, you have as much fun as I did!
funny game were you drive and crash, while your friend screams at you asking you how you didnt see that huge rock in the road but its not my fault i have impared vision its not my fault that physics exist either thats newtons fault not fucking mine so go scream at him and god for my eye sight you cunt. overall 8/10 great game

This game is SO FUCKING FUN. I don't know why, but the stupid character design, and the random smokes you find and smoke while going 200 on a deserted strip of highway or whatever it is is such a stupidly entertaining feeling, multiplayer is buggy as shit but that's fine. 100% would recommend

Fine game, pretty chill and can certainly be fun. I would really like to see the bugs fixed though. So far I've had 3 of my runs ended from the car doors and boot hitting me at the speed of sound when I open them.
