About the Game
This is a road trip game in an almost infinite random generated desert. The focus is on freedom, driving, exploration and immersion. It has minimal car maintenance and survival elements.Infinite Desert, Freedom and Driving:
There are no invisible walls or unable to jump over small fences, or blinking red "wrong direction" signs on the hud. The car won't need 10-20 liter fuel over just only a few hundred meters, with a full tank, you could go approximately 500 kilometers. If you see a distant big mountain, you can go there and if you are capable, you can climb it. If you don't like where the mirrors are facing you can adjust them however you want or throw them away while driving at full speed. If you want to lean out of the car, or closer to the radio or near anything, you can.

Borderline unplayable. Im sure its better in VR but if its going to only work in VR they need to market it towards only VR
Very janky, can'T fuel up the car no matter what I try... then I end up just stopping in the middle of nowhere BECAUSE I can'T refuel... weird zombie rabit thing comes attacing me.

If you liked "My Summer Car" you will enjoy this 🤣 Building the car is not as detailed, but the mechanics that they have are hilarious, and make for some funny adventures cruising with the homies 🔥Had my anal cavity turned into a rabbit burrow on my first run through after I broke down, and started walking
I looked away once and ended up crashing me and my buddy to oblivion.

The general game is amazing, It runs very very well on my 1660 at max graphics! There are some problems though, multiplayer is completely lagging and just downright sucks, like sometimes you car disappears or falls apart and its just downright terrible. They are still working on multiplayer though! Another problem is the procedural generation can get annoying after a while and sometimes your just cooked (aka you gotta make a new save cause you are basically just dead)

i first heard of this game back in 2019 back then the game played like a power point presentation but since then the game performs very well and is playable i love the game mechanics and the game play loop in future id like more npcs friendly and hostile
FIrst of all , don't be fooled by my playtime , i've play around 160h on my GF account.
SO , the game , i'm not gonna lie , it's a realy cool game , you can put almost every part of a car on a totaly different car, its almost like a survival game (well infact depending of your game setting , its the case since we have a water/food gauge) , alongside a life gauge you always have no matter the game mode).
The thing is , the game didnt had update for a long time (years ?) , then , a day, an another game (from a different company) came out , in Early Acces too (but the demo is available for free) called Drive Beyond Horizon, which is litteraly the same game , with for now a bit less feature (understandable since demo just came out when TLD EA is here for some years) but way better graphics and a tiny amount of better things)
Then an update of TLD came out after some time , its maybe a coincidence but i'm not gonna lie , for me its look more like an update in the urge seeing that better looking game came out, and IMO if a game staff do an update only because they are afraid of something and not because community asked for it, its always a bad sign, so i'm maybe wrong (and if its the case i'm deeply sorry) , but in this configuration , bet on TLD look like a very bad move.
My choice is purely personal and as i've said , i'm maybe wrong, but just try both and make your own opinion.
Very good game, worth way more than it costs. If you're a fan of long rides through the desert, I can't recommend it enough
I was permanently banned for "Disrespectful and toxic behavior" when I said I'm not giving out my phone number just to download mod support. Then the entire thread gets deleted. Now I can't talk to other players or even get tech support.
How did it come to that? I was trying to download a mod loader that's only available on their discord, but they don't let you download it until you give them your phone number. Of course I refused. Obviously they would want to sell this information to scammers, hackers, and other bad actors, assuming that's the worst they want to do with it. Naturally, I don't want that.
When I posted that I'm not giving out my phone number so they can get some kind of kickback for it, they permanently banned me and deleted the entire thread. I didn't even make the thread. I came in on page 3 and they still did a full nuke.
How to get entire threads deleted:
- Go to the Steam discussions for TLD.
- Go into any thread.
- Post: "I'm not going to dox myself just to download workshop support."
[*]Wait patiently for your permanent ban.
You can do a search for "phone number" in their discussions and find all kinds of threads where it's people refusing to give theirs out and the thread gets locked shortly after. Of course those are only the locked threads. It's impossible to search how many threads have been deleted, as they have been deleted.
A dude got banned for saying scammers and discord pedos are bad. Another guy got banned for having a Wolfenstein profile picture. And another user got banned for making a joke about H.P. Lovecraft's cat. I don't know what the joke was but it must have been HILARIOUS.
Just awful. Don't give these people money. I would take mine back, if I could.
A friend and I often use the Multiplaer beta and try to see how far we can go before we inevitably fight one another. it its a very crude game, but that is where it's beauty lies. highly recommend if you want something funny, long-pace, open world, or love to explore.
This game is what I've wanted for a while, a game where you assemble your car, drive said car, jam some beats in your car, car breaks down, fix car, and then do back flip because you hit a massive boulder at 60 kilometers an hour. This game gets 10/10 Italian sausages.
But I do think it needs some things fixed/added. Firstly, I would like more radio stations to be added or more voice lines for the ones we already have. It gets kind of boring listening to the same bit of text over and over again. Secondly, I think the addition of raiders in the wasteland would be a good idea, maybe they have armor on them or guns, maybe the farther Kilometers you go they become more common, what if they have their own building that spawns, like the abandoned buildings we see. Thirdly, maybe there's crashed cars around the wasteland? maybe they have skeletons in the cars/around them. Fourthly, I think the smoothness of bigger crashes needs to be fixed, sometimes when I crash my car the game freezes a bit and then plays the chaos that happened, this might just be something with me though.
This concludes my review. My final opinion on this game is that it's wonderful, I know that my review makes it seems like this game is half baked, it's not. It's a wonderful (and goofy) indie game. Genesz, I hope you can keep improving off this amazing game. And Survivors, remember to always Chat Till You Die!
Hands down a unique game that I really enjoy. Excited more so for the next multiplayer update. So that me and the boys can take a road trip in the apocalypse
Fun game to fuck around in, although, please fix the Multiplayer, It's fun to play it but the lag and stuttering is annoying.
Looked like a stupid fun game to play with my friends. It is not. The game barely works and not in a fun way either. Its frustrating from top to bottom. It's difficult to get into a game together, and when ever we did the game would crash. The controls are incredibly complicated to the point of ridiculousness. Do NOT buy this game at anything more than a dollar. The fact that this is $15 is criminal.

this enables the multiplayer function and is the most fun you can ever have with friends
despite being the buggiest shit ever, its gotta be hands down one of the most fun experiences i've had in gaming in a while
my sister says the character looks like clay.
i actually like this game mainly cause of the weird inhumane things that you can do inside the game like the weird strechy arm things you can do and the fact that your eyes literally pop out out the socket to zoom in.
also driving physics are good for a keyboard but not a steering wheel.

Quite possibly the goofiest and wackiest game you can play! Either by yourself or even with your friends, there's always something random that can happen. So prepare yourself for the trip (or in this case, the drive) of your lives!
Get in your car, try to bring everything you can and.... Lose almost everything 5 minutes into the drive itself. But that's okay, there's always places to visit and items to find! Whether it's gas/diesel, water, food, alcohol, weapons, engines or even new vehicles, you've got a lot to discover!
Whether you're playing this game alone or with your friends, be sure to expect a really fun and entertaining adventure with this game!
I feels like this the dumbest game I've ever played but also the funniest game that I've ever played.

A surprising amount of detail and effort went into this game. You have the option to drive the car in clutch, customize your car by attaching various doodads on it, listen to the radio that has a good selection of songs, play the game with friends, drive different vehicles such as a bus, truck, car, or motorcycle, shoot things, eat and drink things, piss on things, poop on things, clean things. Controls are a bit wonky but it was designed to be like that. No purpose but to just drive and enjoy the journey. You would need to understand different gas ratios for different vehicles for maximum efficiency. Bugs are numerous. Map is decently empty. Combat is there but barren. Enemies are there to shoot but just two variants. Things can also explode as well.
Bad game, bad moderators, have fun getting banned so you can't get help fixing errors in your game. Broken game. Don't waste your time.

Well anyways this game is hot garbage, just got banned for nothing, and I don't even know for what I got banned for. Don't get this game, waste of time. You'll get banned and you won't even know why or when they'll do it.
Also they want you to give them your phone number just so you can use more features for the game. Christ.
Trash moderation. And anyways the community you say I "Disrepected" keeps eating poo in the game and spawn kill you for fun. They also have a bunch of hackers on this game because they are unable to moderate their own game. With this frustration of not being able to do anything they go to the community hub to just ban random people.
Edit: Multiplayer is an unstable mess with constant crashes and phsyics breaks which are game breaking.
Good game. I like making cars work and shoving stuff into the back of the car for later. I don't like the excrement and human waste mechanics though. Would be great if it was optional (Update it looks like it is optional)
If you want a game to play this with your friends and mess about with its multiplayer bugs, this is your game. If you want to play multiplayer seriously, wouldn't recommend.

I don't care for the controls. Having to hold E and click the mouse button is odd. The driving is okay. I know this is still in early access. I am looking forward to what this game evolves into. I have been looking for a driving game where I can just relax and drive. What got my attention is the classic cars in the ad for this game.

I say it is not even started.
The game is clunky. There’s no tutorial, no explanation, not even the smallest hint on how to play or what to do. The animations are terrible, the car handling is awful, and the visual style... well, it’s better left unseen. The controls are frustrating.
After watching a YouTube video and a guide on how to actually get your car working, I went for a ride. For two long real-life hours. And guess what? There’s nothing. Literally nothing. I found just two abandoned buildings with no resources. You just keep driving your car through a random “nowhere” until you run out of gas. Then, for another hour, you’re walking aimlessly toward some “tower,” on a horizon which turns out to be an unfinished building with no doors, stairs, or—of course—resources.
Car handling? That’s a whole different story for another book. I don’t usually have issues with motion sickness in games or real life, but here? I almost threw up. The car can’t go straight—you have to make micro left-right adjustments every second. The bumpy roads make the experience extremely uncomfortable
if you like survival games and working on cars. this game is pretty fun.
Although, it is buggy and you can lose everything pretty quick. sooooo if you like early access games and dont mind buggy laggy games than give this a shot. ive been having a blast.
Controls are kind scuff being that it was meant for VR probably. so be ready to have patience for that.

Found a bucket of blood at a gas station. Used it as coolant, works wonders! Feeling lonley on the road? Tune in on your AM/FM radio! There are alot of channels & it will stay in company while driving.
I found this game to be very relaxing & interresting. Almost philosophical too. It keep telling me to enjoy every monent of it, like it was my last. Always telling me there is something beyond the horizon.

Call me cynical and grumpy (this is probably true) but the brokenness of this game, while funny for a bit, honestly seems like incompetence, and the crudeness a way to mask that. Would love to see a co-op / multiplayer working version of The Long Drive from a more capable studio. The idea has potential, sometimes you just want to goof off with a friend, or by yourself.
Really fun game, PLEASE make sure you have friends though. Its much more fun and better. You can play it by yourself but still. Who doesn't like more fun?
Packed my car up, got like 30 ish miles in before a hillbilly leper scared me and i bailed out of the car trying to reload my bb gun, it was then my car took off at mach fuck you down a hill never to be seen again. damn parking brakes. 10/10
Corky, wanky but super fun especially with friends. The weirdness of the game makes it feel a bit mysterious. Got it on sale for 3$ and have had way more than 3$ of laughs/fun
I don't get it. There's very little in the game. You can find a better gun to kill the same two enemies. The easiest way to kill the enemies is by having them just touch your car until they die, The cars control like shit. The actual shit noises are overdone and annoying after the first time. The game is incredibly buggy. Half the time I can't even eat and have to start my entire game over.
And yet I keep coming back to this and playing it for over an hour at a time. 10/10, highly recommend
I truly hope there is way more added to this, as it is so barebones, but I do love this game and am excited for it's future now that it's getting popular.

My friend and i spawned in drove for an hour.. the car exploded walked for 30 minutes found an engine walked 30 minutes back put engine in car, car would start realized that the engine was a diesel engine... 10/10

Great game 10/10 love being the engine for the car when it breaks down in a multiplayer session
It's a fun little game about driving and being harassed by weird farmer people. It's also better with a friend.
It's okay but I without functional multiplayer it's not that great
You know, it has a solid foundation. Definitely feels like something I should absolutely love and sink hundreds of hours in. But I can't. There's nothing to do.
I first played The Long Drive back in 2022. At the beginning it was fun: quirky radio hosts talk about random nonsense, driving through the empty desert allows you to think in peace, random buildings on the roadside are fun to explore - what's not to love?
However, after an hour or so I've realized that it's all there is to this game - the enemies aren't a threat (more about that later), there's almost no variety of buildings and loot inside them, and radio hosts' yapping gets really annoying and repetitive. After a while, I had a good car, a full tank of gas, and a department store's worth of food in my trunk. That was it. The game was beaten. I've seen everything there was to it.
Here I am, two years later, ready to review all the changes made since then!
- The structures are the same as they were back then.
I have two problems with this. First of all, it's not like this game is well-detailed or heavily stylized, creating new structures is really easy. An average player with a Unity tutorial could probably slap together a dozen new buildings on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and those structures would likely be far more interesting than the concrete boxes with random stuff inside that we have now. Second, the damn Halloween event cathedral-esque building. It's way too big, it's not particularly fun to explore and it looks out of place 95% of the year. I have no idea why it's still in the game.
- A new weapon was added: a shotgun!
At least it's the only new weapon I've managed to find in ~2 hours. Some extra firepower is always nice! Or rather, would be nice, if not for two small nuances.
1) the ammo for it is REALLY scarce
2) shotgun (and basically any other weapon that exists or might be added in the future) is outclassed by a damn katana that you can find in the first 60 seconds of the run (probably less). It requires no ammo, has a decent range and oneshots every enemy type. Speaking of which...
- The part where I talk about all the new enemy types!
Or rather, the part where I'd probably talk about them if there were any. There's whopping 2 enemy types in this game: rabid rabbits and rabid humans. The only difference between them is that rabbits don't promise to eat you while moving in your general direction. Enemy AI is unreasonably basic, I'm talking Vampire Survivors basic - enemies charge in your direction and that's it. They don’t do anything interesting: they don’t steal your car engine while you’re looting, sneak up on you, hell, they don’t even attempt to avoid your shots (assuming that for some reason you've decided to use the god-awful BB gun instead of aforementioned katana).
- Radio
You know what really spices up exploring the wasteland? Wonderful vintage music and charming hosts that talk about current events, available at all times right from your Pip-Boy. Wait, no, that's Fallout, The Long Drive radio is quite a bit different. So what's going to entertain us through the crappy radio of an even crappier soviet car? An assortment of radio stations, of course. We've got the "music" stations and the "non-stop host yapping" stations. Don't bother with music stations, the "songs" they play are the same three cords repeating for several minutes with no variability whatsoever. The "yapping host" kind is a tad more interesting. At first they're fun: you listen to edgy hosts talking about flying sex robots, creepy rabbits and whatnot. However, after ~30 minutes they start to become annoying and after ~60 minutes you realize that you've heard all of this before. Multiple times.
- Cars
No complaints here. Cars feel distinct from one another, and the customization system is excellent.

Tape measures, pumpkins and metal detectors (?) are mildly entertaining for a minute or so. Do they have any practical uses? No. Do they make the experience better? No. I don't think that developers should be wasting all the 5 minutes per month that they spend developing this game for crap like that.
Immediately after writing this review I went and tried the demo of Drive Beyond Horizon. It has weather system, buildings that look like actual buildings, interesting landscape, decent graphics AND good optimization. Just go ahead and play that game instead.
And as for The Long Drive, it's a disgrace. The devs have spent 5 years ALLEGEDLY developing the game, and it got completely outclassed by a random demo. Don't even bother with buying this for the full price, I'm not even sure it's worth it with 75% discount.
it looks super fun! especially with friends, but its barely playable. me and my friend got it to play together and we just cant find each other on the lobby's and the head breaks all the time, idk how i feel about it, but im not having fun trouble shooting it.
I bought the long drive a long time ago, and I enjoyed it immensely, it is a funny albeit janky game and can be a good way to relax. Or at least it was.
If you wanting to just play the game as is, then I encourage you to get it and enjoy it. It is a good game and will give you hours of enjoyment.
However if your thinking of modding the game (Like many do because randomly appearing boulders that can destroy everything you've spent hours gathering get annoying after a while) then it's probably best to go somewhere else, as the developers are making what was once an easy process near impossible, locking it behind a phone wall with discord. Which some players can access, whilst many others can not.
I have tried asking for help from the developer, to see if they can do something about it for the many people who now cannot access the modloader or the larger community at large for help. But after ignoring the post in the discussion thread just relied "no" and they locked the thread so no one could post on it.
Lately the developers have taken a different turn after one of their discord severs got destroyed, just ignoring people or flat out blocking them.
So know that this game is strictly single player only without the mod loader and the developers have become less than helpful or even friendly in the way they talk. If single player is good for you then go for it and enjoy the many hours of janky play you will have, sometimes you'll hate it. Othertimes you'll love it, just know what your getting yourself into before you buy it.
My first gameplay, my car veered to the right nothing happened, my car failed, i parked in a gas station, no gas, my car left, I sank to the ground.

I have loved playing it for the last two hours but have found it frustrating using MKB. I spent just as long trying to get a controller to work. I want to play it more, but without controller support, I don't see myself coming back to it.
I would only recommend it to people who are comfortable using MKB, not to people who prefer using a controller.

It's a game about driving. Best when played in a vc alongside all of your other friends who are also playing this game solo. Good bonding material. Don't buy for full price.
