good
i like this game! simple but challenging to get the hang of, doesnt hold your hand in terms of mechanics (i still have no idea what any of the stats actually *do* and ive played the whole thing through at least 5 times) the lore is kind of hard to grasp especially at first but i find that it was enough to keep my attention.
Bad joke
a game
I enjoyed the experience so much i felt i should leave a review, so here it is.
-I Fully recommend this game if it looks like something you'd like, for the classic text art or the actual rpg elements.
-Update: I forgot to mention i have 0 clue how to resize it so you might be stuck with a low resolution (the game runs primarily text so i didn't mind), and i forgot to mention there is a plot but i did not pay any attention to it.
This game is a very simple text based rpg that kind of reminds of the unforgivingness of Dark Souls at certain moments but at other moments it shines because if you can think of a tactic it usually works to an extent. I decided to stream this game to my buddy so that i could show him how it was built with text and oh boy did i get hooked on it. We both slowly learned how the game mechanics worked until we died on Stage 5 and oh man it became a race to beat stage 5 at that point.
We managed to finish the game one and a half hour later.
Help Area-
If you didn't notice characters heath is shown in how long their names are.
The Main Different types of ability's i use are Shield (Chance to negate attack), Luck- (Lowers enemy crit chance slowly), Potential- (Lowers Enemy attack damage slowly), (Burn (Always does one damage a turn), Heal (heals the lowest health person in your party). Also if you can take out the powerful black enemies you get 1 of the 4 holy relics that are extremely helpful.
I have spent a few hours on this game because I enjoy its cryptic presentation and its use of ASCII glitch art, but it has too many flaws for me to recommend it except to an extremely niche audience with a few dollars to spare.
Playing this game feels much like trying to play a game in a language I cannot understand, and that seems to be by design. The plot is nigh non-existent. Nearly everything has been abstracted away, leaving only the numbers and the lengths of the randomly generated names to give an idea of how each battle is going. Fortunately, the mechanics can be inferred after not much trial and error. Unfortunately, it becomes apparent that success and failure are (after a certain point) dependent on RNG - not in the damage numbers, but in your Warriors' available skills. The only way to have access to certain skills is to either start with them or have them randomly bestowed by a rare consumable type of item - so, while it is possible to clear Circle 1 through simple grinding, it is also very possible that one's run is already doomed by the time one reaches Circle 2.
I kept playing because I felt like I could, in theory, find an optimal strategy to beat the game. It seems like a surmountable challenge. But it has been slow and grindy, and even the AutoBattle function doesn't really mitigate the tedium.
On the technical side, this is a game that runs as a command line program and uses PC speaker output for its (limited) brief bits of music. While those are not inherently negative traits, they do limit the UI responsiveness and sound quality. The game has also gotten stuck and frozen up on me several times, which can be frustrating in the middle of a good run. I would only mildly suggest it to people who are looking to try something unusual and unpolished, but let me be clear: it's really not a good game.
This game... I don’t understand it. You basically have to have a higher attack number then them and that’s it. There’s no story, can’t grasp what I’m supposed to do, and not very entertaining. Here’s a link to check it out before you buy. (Consider subscribing! You won’t regret it)

What a weird little broken toy to figure out. I like it. W4RR-i/o-RS: Descent is a small scope turn-based puzzle game. There is nothing 'RPG' about it, so take the store page description with a grain of salt. There isn't so much a story as there is a few small, abstract, and brief bits of text. The whole thing can be 100%'d in about 2 hours.
I'm not going to explain how it works because that is the fun of it; that's what you are paying for here. All I can say is that I found it quite interesting to first figure out how the system works, and then use that knowledge to complete the game. It does get grindy and repetitive towards the end, but hey, you only have to do it once.
Pros:
+The small entry fee was well worth it
+Nice combination of turn-based battles and puzzle elements
+It's fresh; there is nothing quite like this
Cons:
-Rough edges is an understatement
-Resizing the window is a major undertaking
-The 'music'/sound is terrible
-The ASCII artwork is terrible
-This could be a base for a much larger game that would be great
-It gets grindy at the end
-No keyboard shortcuts
-One Achievement is broken (or the description is wrong)
Yeah, I had a fun afternoon with this one. Cheers to indie games!
