The game is fun but barebones and somewhat difficult to control. But for such a low asking price, I think it's ultimately worth it.

Controls are bad and eventually the game just got boring.

You have to do the same levels over and over again just to learn the control and the maps.
Doesn't sound like a fun time to me.

Also you car ship is so weak. The other racers can take hits from you but as soon as you take one you implode and that's it game over as your now in last place.

          This game could be improved.

JANK BUT CHARMING. If that isn't a one sentence summary, then what is?

Ahem. Future Aero Racing S Ultra is actually a sequel to Future Aero Racing, a previously distributed game that has since left the shelves of NURENDSOFT's internal store. In a direct comparison, the physics of its predecessor are far superior, even with the digital input turning still there. S Ultra tried to implement the tighter turning of FAR to little avail with the hard turn inputs, even as you could clear corners easier. Then there's the aforementioned digital inputs. *shudder* I do not want anyone else to suffer that, however manageable it is.

ALMOST forgot the music: The music is an eclectic selection, giving this game further identity that separates it from the likes of Redout and BallisticNG, with a minimalist tinge that lets you focus on the race. Good stuff for a one man army.

Visuals: This game tries to capture the spirit of F-Zero by using brighter colors and some cel shading when on the track. The character designs are reminiscent of F-Zero GX/AX, albeit cleaner looking. All in all, a valiant attempt. One major gripe I have is at Big Rock Canyon where your vision is seriously disrupted at higher altitudes by badly implemented snow.

Gameplay: Instead of FAR's steadily charging boost, you have boost pads that charge up a secondary boost to use at your discretion. This boost provides a shield for the duration of its effect and is used for both avoiding damage and initiating Takedowns, setting your target back with a delayed respawn. In true F-Zero fashion, you have a neutral shield. When that goes down, your craft is boned and you have to respawn. To refill the shield, you can either take down an opponent or complete a lap, which is pretty mandatory in a race. (Oh, and try not to suffer a direct hit with the wall. That's guaranteed destruction.)

Controls: Hoo boy. There's a lot to like and dislike here. You have accelerating, boosting, brakes, camera changing, a rear view camera, hard leaning and of course your standard movement controls on the stick or DPad, but I haven't tried finding where the keyboard controls are yet. Everything BUT the movement feels good. Why? It's quite jank, and attempting to correct your course slightly can still land your bum on the wall, however reduced the impact might be. It just isn't conducive to the much tighter tracks, and even some of the more standard ones. This is why analog is superior to many and it's why modern racing adheres to analog as a requirement in development.

To give a 1 to 10 rating: I would rate it a 7.5. The game does its best to sate the futuristic speed demons like me, but a number of troubles keep this from going any higher in rating.

I got this on sale since I'm always looking to give an AG racer a chance, even if it has some rough edges. Unfortunately, the game itself does little to make up for its vast shortcomings.
The aesthetic barely captures the nostalgia of the genre from previous generations, especially in comparison to other games that nail it perfectly. The turning feels jarring and unruly, without any satisfying weight to back it up. Tight sections of the track are especially bad, where your ship flip-flops back and forth over and over, making even someone like me feel tired of its general eye damage. Its music is discordant, bare, and repetitive, with no personality. A robotic voice faintly calls out useless information fairly frequently throughout a race, and the sounds for the main menu make it sound like you're constantly getting notifications. All of the audio complaints combined make it so that the entire game is best played muted, leaving you with nothing but its visuals that only a mother could love.
I'd like to believe there's something hidden in here somewhere, but the game also feels like it's frugally holding itself behind menial races I have no patience for. The only ship you start with is a branded ship of the developer themselves, which feels stupid and cheeky. Even the option to toggle retro graphics is locked behind progress as well, so all in all, I have nothing good to say really.

Criminally underappreciated AG racer. The game feels great to play, there's some good mechanics, the track design is really good, it's challenging. It's just REALLY FUN. The only problem I have with it is that there isn't enough of it. There's about 12 tracks, and some of those get reused in the championship, just reversed and maybe with different conditions. There's also only one gameplay mode in the campaign, so you'll be done with it in a couple of hours. There are a LOT of difficulty levels, and your cars get incrementally faster, so there's good replay value, but if you're not into replaying it'll be a real short game for you. Overall one of the best AG racers on steam. Not as good as Redout and BallisticNG, but on about the same level as Super Pilot.

Captures the aesthetic of the early 2000s in a high-speed racer with elements of Wipeout, F-Zero and Episode One: Podracer.

Not good, but not totally horrible.

Firstly, the sexy women icons are the best thing about this game. The physics are half decent. Thats about it.

The menu is one of the most confusing I've ever seen. The AI is really hard even on normal difficulty. The tracks look too much like refried beans. The music is as annoying as crap, it sounds like one of those 2 star songs somebody made on newgrounds, and loops like every 3 seconds. Overall, not a good time was had.

As a desperate and frustrated F-Zero fan, it really does the heart good to see plenty of other games arrive to try their hand at it. However, very often, they don't exactly nail the "F-Zero feel," leading to many feeling too much like it's counterpart, "Wipeout." No disrespect to Wipeout, of course, but the comparisons have been totally errant for too long.

In this case, few get closer to touching what the F-Zero feel is. Future Aero Racing S Ultra seems to be a decent antidote to the 15-year drought. The cars move tight, every turning is simple to perform, and most importantly, it feels very fast to race. There's no power-ups to get in the way, so it's all about skill here. Even better, unlike most indie games of this genre, this game has characters! Any F-Zero fan would know straight up that the series also had characters to go with their cars, and FAR S Ultra does the same here. Of course, while it is somewhat minimal, it is a very nice thing to see racers try to have some characters in them. It can be done. And this is impressive, even though 8 racers exist at a time on a track.

There's plenty of challenge to be found here. The courses, are already a beast to maneuver, most of the time, but there's also four difficulty levels, a way to have your own little "custom" championship, and you can even have the option to race courses in order, randomize, or straight up choose them. Also, what is interesting is that, this game has 2-lap races. This is a unique change from other games, meaning performance is quite important, where as most demand endurance and performance.

For gameplay, the controls, as stated before, are very simple. So, this is really a great game, even if you lack a controller. And for about $5, this is not bad at all.
          ===
HOWEVER, there are some slight criticisms I have here. While I do admire the courses, and the lovingly colorful vibe, not to mention the fact this game has characters and a fun and simple boost system, I feel that refinement is in order as far as turning goes. And in addition, some of the tracks seem way too thin for vehicles to turn decently. Even the CPU has trouble maneuvering some courses.

This game also repeats something many other games in this genre do, and that is recycle tracks as in having Reverse tracks, which are basically a different version of a course you have raced on earlier. But this is somewhat minor as the tracks all feel unique, despite this.

          ====
All in all, it's a decent game. But not without its flaws. If you've been painfully desperate like I have, please give this game a try. It should at least cheer up the fellow F-Zero fan, and get some good playtime. Not to mention this is about $5.

Just like other racing game, be number one and you win the game

          How:

          • Keep accelerating (you can change this to auto to make it easier)
          • Brake when necessary
          • Try passing each turbo track
          • Avoid crashing into wall, and Turbo Mode opponent vehicle

          ⚠ Note ⚠

          • Some places have weather effects, such as sandstorms and blizzard, and it will disturb your vision a lot
          • [*] There is minor bug, where your vehicle will dive into the ground when invincibility mode (after being crashed), and at that time you pass through the turbo track, it's not fatal and won't ruin your game, but funny to look at it.

If you've ever played racing games like Crash Team Racing, Eternal Wings, Burn Out, Rumble Racing and etc.
So I'll say, that this game is better than PS1 but not more than PS2

Great fun little game with the spirit of F-Zero from a one man army developer.

Supports up to four players in shared/split screen couch multiplayer, so that's a plus.

My religion forbids me to step off the gas, so I keep crashing into the concrete walls. An achievement for that would be nice.
