It is the year 3050AD and man has moved to cities high above the Earth.
The player controls Commander Alexander Menon, a Drop Cop in the year 3050.
Freefall 3050AD is shooter played in first or third person while falling through gang infested cities and locations high above the Earth.
You can move, spin, shoot and use your air-brakes as you fall through increasingly tougher neighbourhoods.
'There isn't anything else out there quite like it!'
Gameplay offers both mission based levels as well as dedicated shooter stages.
The game features 15 levels, and 4 training levels and 2 levels of difficulty.
Each mission starts with the main character launching into a freefall to pursue and shoot down criminals.
The player has laser guns, homing missiles and grenades, as well as specialized tools like air-brakes to slow their descent.
The player must also manage an oxygen supply, as well as their health, which can be topped up by collecting pick-ups in levels.

gonna be honest not my sort of game but dam its my sort dev ! mvg sent us to show support you got it. 2 quid for someone who gave away source code to allow an old port to be finished deserves support
It's not worth anyone's time. Got it cuz MVG made it sound interesting. Yea, it's an interesting port I guess, but very bare. 2 resolution options, both locked in as fullscreen and no windowed option. For the longest time, my anti-mal software flagged it as suspicious exe.
The controls are functional but gameplay just feels weird. Hitting most targets is a pain, and using special abilities requires pressing 2 buttons, but you can't select WHICH ability you use. Most of the targets are too durable and fast. It still has lives and passwords, but it's not an engaging arcade game. The first level is simple and boring, level 2 adds hard timers and 5 times more enemies, great difficulty cliff.

Watched Modern Vintage Gamer's video on Youtube, bought the game on here to say thanks to the Developer, Tony Takoushi, for allowing MVG to finish and release the XBox port. Really cool thing to do fairplay, cheers!
Found out about this game after the Nuon system was talked about by Rerez in 2015 I believe. Then MVG was talking about and the unreleased port along with a port to the PC being brought to Steam, and bringing it back to my attention after all these years. I'm shocked that a plan for a release on the Xbox was a thing!
For the game and what its worth its not bad, but the controls are wonky but can get use to them after 5 to 10 minutes. overall not a bad port of something that was exclusive to a obscure system from 2001. But could use a buff up in the resolution department as it only supports 2 sizes. But the controller works fine (Using a official Xbox One controller) and for what its worth its not half bad.
Especially for the price listed.
Just wanted to say thanks for MVG for finishing the Xbox port and to thank Tony as well for giving him the source code to do it. You will need to get used to the controls but its pretty fun overall. Without MVG this game would've have had the attention it deserves. Well done mate.
I originally found out about this game from Rerez's video about the Nuon, which got me wanting to play the game, but I didn't want to find a super obscure console and also find a probably even more rare game to play it.
I had completely forgotten about it until Modern Vintage Gamer's video about finishing the unreleased Xbox port. In that video he mentioned a Steam version of the game which I had never known existed until now, and given the rest of the reviews mention MVG, I'm guessing I'm not alone.
As much as I really wanna play the Xbox port (I even have a modded Xbox I found at a thrift store), I don't really have the supplies or the know-how to get it working on my Xbox, But I did buy the PC Version to finally play the game at least.
It's pretty fun. The controls are complex, but not hard to get used to. It's a really fun unique arcade shooter, graphics are similar to an early PS2 game, which makes sense since it's from 2000. Soundtrack is really good.
The port itself isn't that great, it does run at 60fps and it also has full controller support, but you are stuck to just two 4:3 resolutions to choose from. I kinda hope someone can figure out how to get it working at higher resolutions.
For $2.99 it's totally worth it, and it's great that this game is now on PC after all the years of it being only on the Nuon which is pretty rare, and it's also great that MVG managed to finish the Xbox port.
Edit: I actually managed to FTP the Xbox port to my Xbox, and it's pretty solid for an unfinished port

Thanks for letting Modern Vintage Gamer finish the OG Xbox version. PC version doesn't work that well for me with Proton & Linux. But that's fine I guess, thanks to the Xbox port I can still play it ;-)
Better than Cyberpunk 2077

Found this game via Modern Vintage Gamer's video about him finishing the Xbox port. Wanted to show my support to the developer.
Played a bit... Man, the controls are a bit wonky and will take some getting used to. Seems pretty fun, though. I was playing with Mouse & Keyboard. Even though it's an TPS/FPS, I wonder if maybe it would control better on a controller. I'll have to try that in the future. I went in thinking it would control sort of like the skydiving segments in other games (such as No One Lives Forever). Not quite. On another note, make sure you have your monitor/GPU settings set NOT to stretch 4:3 games into 16:9. Playing this stretched messes with the way the turning looks and is near vomit-inducing. I'd suggest always playing games in their original aspect ratio anyways, but in this case, I'd say it's 100% necessary. Also, the menus in the game are all keyboard-only. Unsurprising for a game from this time period, but still somewhat annoying.
The intro cutscene is pretty cool. Sets up a fun cyberpunk future setting where a virus has infected the ocean (?) and mankind has moved into the skies. You're apparently some buff dude working for the police with a fancy freefall suit trying to take on some organized crime syndicates. The cutscene looked like it was rendered in-engine originally. It's too bad that it's just a video, though. Might've looked a lot better at higher resolutions.
Overall, seems fun, just gotta get used to the controls. Even if you don't plan to play it, I still think supporting the developer for letting MVG port his game is worthwhile. For $3, it's worth it for that alone.
There is a big event signaling the end of the game, but this takes hours and hours of play to reach. And, even if you finish this, you can play through the game again, maybe on a different side of the screen.
It's hard to believe that this is a real video game. It reminds me of those fake video games you sometimes see on TV, with art and mechanics that make no logical sense. And yet Freefall 3050AD exists, and might just be the most year 2000 video game ever made. It's garish and ridiculous, with bright science fiction visuals, inconsistent fonts, thumping techno, a gigantic UI, and poor tutorials.
And you know what? This game is surprisingly fun. At its core, there are two distinct level styles: a railshooter (albeit one where the primary direction is downwards rather than forwards) and a maze-platformer. In the falling sections, it's a fun balance of shooting enemies, avoiding oncoming objects, collecting powerups, and maintaining your speed. In the maze-platformer section, you need to navigate a series of updrafts of varying strength and direction while avoiding enemies. I don't think these are as enjoyable as the shooter segments, but it's an interesting way to break up the game.
This is a PC port of one of the eight games released on the obscure and ill-fated NUON platform. Unfortunately, it seems like a PC port that was made at the same time as the NUON game was released. You have two resolution options: 640x480 and 1280x1024. You can adjust the sound volume. And that's about it. The only concession to modern PCs is support for XInput controllers.
While I hesitate to recommend this game to everyone, the $3 CAD price is well worth it if you're interested in the very 2000 aeshetics, the NUON platform, or just relatively unique games in general.
