A charming little story full of twists and turns. I wouldn't want to spoil anything, so I'll keep my praise short.
I wasn't expecting to get so thoroughly swept-up in the game's narrative, but the next thing I knew a few hours had passed, just like other times when I'd found a good book that I couldn't put down. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. It sounded like such a simple idea when I read the store page's description, and yet it kept surprising me. Interesting world. Interesting characters. Interesting choices. I recommend it to anyone with an itch for discovery and a free afternoon. This is a great little adventure.
Now, TO THE DEVELOPERS/CREATORS of this game, I would just like to mention a couple areas for a few small improvements that could be made for the English translated version:
First, the overall translation into English is good, and most of the time the writing flows pretty well. There are a few strange parts where the language used sounds strange, like something from Google Translate instead of something written by a native English speaker. This is not a big issue though, because it all still makes enough sense to be able to follow along, and it's not too often. It's more of a "polishing" sort of suggestion, if that makes sense.
Second, the dialogue box tends to cut off some of the words from time to time, which makes me think that the original Chinese characters must have taken up less in-game space than the English words do. This would be a simple fix of just making the English font a little smaller so that it always fits into the window. Again, for any potential players out there, this DOES NOT RUIN the story, as with the help of context clues and the general trajectory of conversations it's easy enough to figure out when it does happen (which isn't too terribly often).
And lastly, I'd like to give some personal feedback. I don't know how many other people are like me, but when I first booted up the game, I had a really rough time figuring out how to Start. I clicked it, I tried my gaming controller, and nothing worked. I honestly almost gave up on playing it at all because there was no instruction and nothing I tried did anything. As a last resort, I started pressing keys on my keyboard and eventually stumbled across the Enter button, thank goodness. HOWEVER, it would be my suggestion to please add a little message to the starting page that says something like "click Enter to begin." That would have really helped me out a lot back there, instead of letting me panic.
But all things considered, I loved this game; and I look forward to playing another game from you in the future! Thank you and keep up the great work!
Beautiful story!
It has been a while since I played an RPG game like this, but I really enjoyed playing this. The storyline was interesting, though it did have a slower beginning. You had to gather the information since the Fairy you play as has amnesia, but once you started gathering the information, things did start getting more intense. Mr. Knight and the Wizard had a lot more contributions to make than the Viking, but every character's contributions eventually got us to the end. The endings were definitely all plausible, though I am glad that there was a good ending. The music was cute, the game was short, and honestly, it was a perfect way to spend a couple of hours.
I will say though, the game initially started up in Chinese, and I unfortunately cannot read that, so anyone that speaks English will need to go into the Local Files for the game in order to find the English subtitle version. Other than that, this game was wonderful to play, and I am so glad I got the chance to play it!
Although not the most exciting story necessarily, it is a good one.
There are many interesting little ideas present in the worldbuilding with the characters being mainly statues and figures.
Also the later endings tell a bit of a tale of not treating other creatures as beneath humans for they are not. One might argue it's quite the opposite actually on physical capabilities alone besides most other animals being far more intelligent than humans tend to give them credit for. Now curiousity is fine, but always mind kindness before it!
The visuals are lovely and evoke a very fairytale like feeling to the story that essentially is a fairytale as well as the tale of a fairy.
Additionally the English translation is really good as well.
All in all I recommend this little story to any fairytale enthusiasts and generally everyone who has about two hours to spare, maybe before bedtime.
And perhaps this little story might inspire some to check on their old creations again they might have forgotten.
A sweet looking game, that can be very dark.
Fairy in a Jar reminds me of the golden era of RPG Maker games. And at least for that I'm deeply thankful.
There's something I should say before we begin. From what I've gathered, Fairy in a Jar was made for a game jam. If that's really the case, it justifies the little flaws I noticed.
You might be wondering if the game is difficult to play — don't worry, it's not. You simply walk from place to place, read dialogue and sometimes make a choice. All the interactive objects are highlighted, you won't miss them. At times it looks clunky, but I appreciated the convenience of never having to check every object just to understand whether I can interact with it.
The story isn't deep, but still interesting because you never really know what to expect. You play as a fairy who — you guessed it — somehow ended up in a jar. Why did it happen? Who is the captor? What will the fairy do now? There are four endings, and I actually really liked the bad ones (C and D). True ending (A) was okay, although didn't feel that exciting. I guess the plot is not the strongest point of this game.
The atmosphere and the aesthetics are very, very good. First of all, the soundtrack sounds nice and it's memorable, I'm still humming the main melody. And second, the art. Oh, this beautiful art. You can look at the store page and already see how stunning it is. I absolutely loved it, especially the backgrounds.
One thing which is objectively bad is English localization. There are some mistakes/typos, and also sometimes the text doesn't fit the speech bubbles. But still, almost always you can understand everything, even if parts of some words are missing.
Overall, for a very low price Fairy in a Jar suggests you an interesting story, beautiful art and easy 100% achievements. Especially recommending it to all the fans of RPG Maker games.
It's just a demo~
A really fun and meaningful lil adventure!! A lot of fun to play thru and read thru, i just recommend using a guide or saving often if you don't like backtracking :) It does have english text for anyone concerned about not being able to read it
A beautiful short game with heart melting story and loveable characters.
Tiny, but immersive fairytale. Very cute.
A very good story game with a very cute sprite!
Short RPG maker game with really lovely art. I liked the story? but it is fairly simplistic. The person who said the environment is always the same is also being somewhat unfair. Things do change and there are multiple areas. But the game is pretty short. I didn't find it boring either. But it is short/basic.
Go in excepting something like a children's storybook.
Nice Litlle indie game!
this is such a cute game! given the price, it's definitely worth playing if you're looking for something with a nice atmosphere and that you can play and finish fast. the plot isn't extraordinay, but it's done decently enough, and the imagery of that little universe really make the game imo.
the only downside is that sometimes the english translation doesn't quite fit into the speech bubbles, but you can pretty much guess which words are getting half-cut, so it's not a big deal.
The writing is boring and not very engageing, which is why i didn't play much and can't talk about how deep the story might be. You basically tap through text that appears after you interact with eras that have "CHECK" written over them, making the "gameplay" boring, I wish i could have figured some things out myself instead of just being told what to do.
At least the art is pretty and even amazed me when I started up the game. The character is cute and has a neat design. But you basically stay in the same place the entire time, making the beatiful enviromental work, you guessed it - boring.
Overall the game feels like a concept that with a little more work and thought put into it could have been a pleasant experience. I also get the feeling that it would have worked better as a comic or something similar.
It's not a bad game, just boring.

Fairy in a Jar 《瓶中精灵》 is a small but excellent indie game which proves that you can do something beautiful with the RPG-Maker.
We play a little elf boy who wakes up in a jar without memory of who he is or how he got here. The jar is nicely decorated and soon we realize that we are being held captive by a giant,as the elves call the humans. To our surprise, he isn't as bad and evil as the legends say and even takes care of us by bringing us wheat and dew drops regularly. But what is the real intention of this giant and what do the dreams that plague us night after night mean? These are the questions we try to answer together with our allies, 3 statues who are standing next to our jar on the table and a snake living under our house.
Fairy in a Jar 《瓶中精灵》 is an interesting short story with a good pace and a great atmosphere. The background music and the sound effects in combination with the detailed pixelart-graphics make the game world look very lively and everything radiates a certain warmth. However, you shouldn't let this lull you too much into safety, because although the game has its feel-good moments, there are even more of the dark ones. 3 of the 4 endings are bad endings and even the good ending leaves a little bitter taste and some open questions.
The only point of criticism that I have is the about the wonky in game controls. You get used to it but especially the safe and loading options aren't really user-friendly. Unfortunately there are no options to adjust the volume of the music. These can only be switched on or off by right clicking on the game window. Skipping is possible with Ctrl but it is constantly interrupted by inserted animations or small speech pauses.
