This game is inspiring and heartwarming. I hope it reaches the libraries of many more players.
I enjoyed solving all the puzzles in this game, and the fact that I got to learn life-lessons and new perspectives here and there was a bonus.
Cheers to all of us and to the paths that wait for us to explore them! 10/10
Very cute, very pretty, fun puzzles, touching story
Absolutely beautiful and wholesome game. Worth every minute!
Cute game! Overall enjoyable experience, and stunning that this was done by an Indy studio. Props to the team for making this happen! Would love to see the kind of game a full team with this studio could do.
Big takeaways:
-The puzzles were quite fun and cleverly designed! Nothing too crazy difficult, but the fun connections and interesting ways that the game mechanics interacted was a lot of fun. Highlights were the Snake Blocks and the Cube Stairs.
-The non-ember characters were delightful, I kinda wish the game had focused on them more but loved their personalities.
-Music was good overall. Excellent at a few points (the guitar riffs for the big pig fit perfectly, ambient cave music set the tone), but less so at other points (the final puzzle needed different music, the Forest King as well). Music integration was choppy at times (esp. with the big pig music - while doing a specific quest it kept fading in for 1-2 seconds and then immediately fading out, which was distracting), but still well done.
Did have a couple of qualms with a few things:
-My biggest issue was the narration - every time the narrator started speaking it took me out of the game and distracted from the experience I was having. I wanted to just enjoy the game and draw my own meaning from the quests, but the oversaturation of text and narrative became overly prescriptive very quickly. In many ways it felt forced, esp. the "this ember isn't ready to be helped" - the first one was great, but including so many felt like being bludgeoned with this message. To be clear, I thought the parallels to depression were though-provoking and a good move by the developers, it was just the method of conveying that was too much - I wanted to the freedom to interpret the story as I felt, rather than have it dictated to me. I ended up muting the narrator, which helped but still didn't solve the issue for me.
-I appreciate that you didn't have to rescue a certain number of embers before moving on to the next portion, but I was partway through the 2nd portion before I realized that each of the 3 "levels" were self-contained (i.e. fixing the net was supposed to happen during the first level, not later on). Ended up backtracking and doing the rest of the puzzles later, but would've been nice to know up front.
-Wish there was some way to have limited control over the camera (without using the lamphorn), some of the camera angles were awkward and limiting esp. when I got stuck on an overworld puzzle.
-Also wish there was some way to fast travel, and to track which parchments/journal entries were missing without physically visiting every location. As a completionist, I found getting the collectibles (and the last Ember puzzles) quite tedious at times.
Overall, a fun game and definitely enjoyable! If you love Indy games, and are ok with occasional hiccups then I definitely recommend.
a heartwarming story about hope, trying and failing.
i enjoyed most of the game with just very few nitpicking.
the puzzle are a bit too easy for my taste.
got stuck now and then, not often tho.
dialouges not skippable can get a bit long-ish especially if you acciently click yourself into them.
big pros are
- story
- cute characters and good looking world.
- outstanding voiceacting.
Loved it. Not too hard, but not too easy. Beat it in a weekend while I was home sick with the flu and it was the perfect game to play while wrapped up in blankets like a human burrito.
Visually it was beautiful. The sound design and soundtrack were great and surprisingly I was a huge fan of the controls and how satisfying they were. Just running around felt good, which isnt something I even usually notice, but this game was just satisfying.
The story was kind of predictable, but still pretty moving for what it is.
I wish the game was longer and if there is a sequel at some point I will be buying it as well. Im going to leave it installed on my Steam deck even though I beat it. Just for those days where Im just not in the mood for anything else.
This is the cutest game I ever played.
On top of that this one has a great story, good mechanics and nice visuals.
Totally worth it!
Puzzles are fun and creative unlike most puzzle games boring and repetitive. Not too hard puzzles. Story line very well. Player's view very clear not bugged. Cute graphics.
For the sale price I paid this was more than worth it.
Lovely little puzzle game with a lovely aesthetic and feel to it.
Much recommended
A genuinely fun and creative game, doesn't overstay it's welcome and is wholesome but with a glimpse of depth in the ideas that it's tackling.
What really glues this game together perfectly well is two things: first, the gameplay, puzzles, NPCs, world and simple lighthearted quests and one could say the whole lighthearted atmosphere of the game. The second is the voice acting of the narrator, they struck gold and found the perfect voice for those characters and the world. It was great.
Lovely game.
Wouldn't buy it full price, but very zen and cute story overall. Took me 7,5h to fully complete, find all hidden notes and clear the extra puzzles. The puzzles are not very difficult but adequately entertaining and the graphics are nice. At a 90% discount it was well worth the price.
Very cute with beautiful artwork and neat story. It feels very 'complete' and finished, the story is straighforward and the puzzles in the game enjoyable and not very difficult. I really enjoyed playing this and can highly recommend it.
The puzzles are good, some are tricky while some are not very difficult but still keeps me entertained. The graphics are so adorable imo and creative in a way. The controls are just easy. Great time and money spent.
Absolutely awesome graphics, makes me feel very smort after finishing a puzzle, the characters and story are extremely well written and the ending is heartwarming, this game's too underrated
Sweet and short, awesome little game in an interesting world. The puzzles were pretty cool, which is most of the game. Challenging enough to keep you entertained and rewarded after you've figured it out, and not difficult enough where you find yourself having to search gameplay vids.
Just Beautiful! Indie devs really know how to cook up a masterpiece puzzle platform game. The story got me sentimental ngl. Easy to follow along and the voice actor is just amazing at her work!
visually its very minimal, simple yet pleasing to the eye. Puzzles themselves are fun, simple even, very few places i found myself struggling to get it right but i wasn't mad about it at all. It felt inviting. The music score is elegantly done, effortlessly blending into the story, and nudging me at times to know if im making progress in a scenario.
Overall 10/10. Can't complain at all, this is what i didn't know i was looking for. My complements to the small dev team of really innovative creators and artists.
A beautiful message lies in the game. With a little bit of around 5 hours of gameplay, it's enough. Well done.
I love it. Beautiful graphics, amazing story and lots of creative puzzles. <3
It's a beautiful and heartwarming game. The gameplay was easy and wasn't buggy and the game's visuals were also great. The ending was touching and throughout the game, it shows how to help yourself by helping others but at the same time, it shows that not everyone can or wants to be helped. Doesn't take long to complete. I bought it at a sale and especially for that price I 10/10 recommend!
About The Last Campfire
The Last Campfire is a short and colorful game where you'll venture out in a vibrant world full of different puzzles to solve in order to reach the end. In this game, you'll be playing as Ember, the blue character you can notice from the game thumbnail. Ember and creatures alike Ember have been sailing to find a way home for a while and along the journey, Ember has become trapped in a place between places, a place where almost everyone alike Ember is lost and has not yet moved on. The place between places is full of different environments and intriguing creatures, but there also lies many forlorn which are those alike Ember who have succumbed to hopelessness and a lack of motivation to push on. The forlorn are made of rock and in order to restore them to their original selves, Ember must reach a hand out to their soul by solving a puzzle. Can Ember save all those who have turned forlorn and continue on with the journey or will Ember too turn forlorn? Play to find out!
My Review of The Last Campfire
I had found this game from a friends screenshot because of its colorful graphics which caught my eyes, and I got it at a price of 1.49 USD which I'd say is a fair price tag because of the short duration of this game. The game did not disappoint! I thought it would be something simpler and much shorter but it really exceeded my expectations - this is pretty much a captivating story game with superb graphics! Progression is narrated and I loved the narration! The puzzles were alright. There's a mixture of easy, medium and hard puzzles. If you're struggling to solve a puzzle, then I'd suggest you to follow this guide, it helped me out when I was stuck a few times: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2860659777
It's an interesting detail how we can't save forlorn who aren't willing or yet ready to be saved. I kind of liked this game design decision, because it accurately depicts that not everyone is ready or so open-minded about moving on so easily. We all experience despair differently and we may not all be on the same track, so I liked that detail.
I should have anticipated the twist towards the end coming, specifically about the Wanderer's identity but I didn't and I had found that so surprising! The ending to this story felt very satisfying for me to witness after all of those puzzles I solved.
Overall, great short puzzle game!
Overall Rating: 10/10
When I bought this game, I was not expecting anything from another world, but I was surprised by it.
The art of the game is very good and amusing, the music is good and the puzzles in the game are creative.
What made me thinking was the concept behind the game, the moral behind the reason they made the game, the story.
My interpretation for the game is tha: Even a lost soul can ignite the flame from the others that already lost the hope. There's always a "bad" figure even though they can have the right intends, the selfish intent to help the others can lead to the same consequences or worse from the ones that you wanted to avoid previously. And for the last, there are souls that can't be helped and stay in the dark until they resolve themselves, the only thing that you could do is respect them and let them deal with it.
I think that overall the puzzles were easy to solve, and the game was quite wholesome, the thing that I was starting to dislike is that it was being repetitive in the end and there were some puzzles clearly much harder that others very straightforward.
Overall: 8.5/10
controls took a second but otherwise it as a beautiful game with some clever puzzles. 10/10. it rained on my face
Great game. Cute graphics. A great puzzle game to play on Steam Deck.
A short (5 hours-ish) puzzle game experience with a story I didn't care for because it was being overly twee. The puzzles were decent, but there weren't many of them, and I was disappointed by the lack of an achievement for getting all the collectibles, because I was proud of myself for collecting all of them myself. Nevertheless, it's an alright game, even if most puzzles are overly easy.
I loved the story of this game, the puzzles can be somewhat challenging but not too hard. Great game if you just want to relax and solve puzzles, there wasn't any time limit one any of them so you can just take your time and figure it out, although I do wish there was either hints or a way to restart the puzzles without having to back out and go back in.
Beautiful visuals, melancholy but sweet atmosphere, puzzles aren't too difficult but still challenging. There is a free demo with a generous amount of play and it let me start from end of the demo when I bought main game, but only once. I had a power outage and it wouldn't reload from demo.
This is a heartfelt journey wrapped in simple yet engaging puzzles, with a thought-provoking narrative about hope, loss, and finding one's way. With its accessible gameplay, calming visuals, and great story, I would recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a short yet meaningful experience.
Very cosy game. Enjoyable puzzles, some easy, some I had to scratch my head a few times with. Extremely cathartic, with a beautiful narrative.
Scenic puzzle game with a good message (made a bit surface level to suit a general audience, but valuable nevertheless). Lots of mechanics might resemble those of older puzzle titles, but a lot of creative twists make this a fresh experience. One problem I have with the game is its annoying audio that accompanies one of the abilities you get. On its own, it isn't that bad; however, you end up using this ability for most of the game, so the noise becomes really persistent as time goes on. The optional lore collectibles aren't all that interesting in terms of what they contain, but it's nice the option to hear them instead of reading them is available to kill some time while moving around.
It would also be nice if there was more than one puzzle room theme in the soundtrack (though otherwise it is pretty good). In any case, the game's pacing works. I appreciate the balance between the usual game-loop and navigation/story-driven sections. The ending isn't crazy game-play wise, but effective in terms of story. Give it a go on your downtime from a more intense game!
The ending made my eyes teary, which doesn't happen all that often. Simple, but also very bittersweet. I think it would benefit from having a bit more depth. But still, it's a good game. Feels like a story that's being read to a child.
i really enjoyed playing this game :) the visuals are so cute and the puzzels are fun, but also quite easy (i didnt mind). The story is very bittersweet and a bit sad. I think its a nice game for a comfi puzzle night
WOW! Just, WOW. I am a 40 year old man, that primarily enjoys competitive gaming and hardcore grindfests. This was something different for sure but man was it an amazing 8 hours and 55 minutes! The audio and visuals are absolutely stunning. The puzzles were engaging and fun. They were simple yet did take some thought. A few of them took me quite a while to solve, and then i got that sweet sweet dopamine hit. The story is immaculate that has you thinking about life and love and sadness. It really is well thought out and was insanely emotionally captivating, that had me reflecting my own life and had me contemplating the reasons I wake up every day and press forward in this often rough life. 10/10. Give this one a couple nights of your time and thank me later! FYI, I am a lifelong gamer and i think this is the first ever steam review I have ever made. Thank you Hello Games for a wonderful masterpiece!
Highly Recommended. 9/10*
Oooof, this game is so good, the visuals are gorgeous, very simple low poly models, but the art style direction is really good, good environment, and good puzzles, the ambient music is good, and the narrator voice is a 10/10, it reminds me when was a child and watched stories on the cultural channel, it feels so relaxing, some how playing this game it makes me feel good. Im not giving it a 10 just to give it the benefit of doubt, cause i haven't finished it yet, so not sure if will ruin it some way.
Just finished the game
absolutely love the journey cause thats what it is.
This an experience with puzzles
also i absolutely love the VA's narration 100/10!!!
This game is very beautiful, Has a great story, beautiful art, is fun and challenging at certain points. I can not recommend this game enough!! The art style is just absolutely beautiful I can not express this enough!! If you have not played this game you absolutely need to!! This game will make you cry. Do not miss out on this game. Enjoy!
A lovely game - visually and in storytelling. Good puzzles, just challenging enough to keep me engaged and smiling.
Not gonna lie I cried at the end 🥲
Really beautiful and relaxing experience.
Puzzles were fun and not too hard but still challenging at times.
Im happy I played this with headphones on to really immerse myself in it.
It took me less than 7 hours to 100% it so its not a long game.
I definitely recommend it!
Best depiction of depression I've ever seen in a game ! I love how it showed that everyone feels things differently, everyone goes at a different paces, and you can't help people who don't want to be helped, or aren't ready. Really good game !
I haven't finish the plot yet, but overall the game is cute and chill
The puzzles not that difficult, suitable for the players that want to play a chill puzzle game with adorable views
A solid game. Great atmosphere and writing, and the embers are cute to boot.
Bought it for the frog, stayed for the voice acting, storytelling, puzzles, atmosphere, and art style.
Short little experience that gives a satisfying adventure filled with some simple puzzles and mild exploration.
Very cute, puzzles are fun and while not easy, not so hard I would get frustrated either.
An amazing little game that has been on my radar for the longest time. I knew I wanted to play it just based on the way it looked and finally sat down and I'm kicking myself for not playing it sooner. Everything from the the design, the voice acting, the puzzles, the story was wonderful! I managed to make it last nearly 7.5 hours after collecting all the journal entries, but the game might be shorter if you don't. But still, for it's price I'd say it's well worth it. What surprised me most was how much I had to think through some of the puzzles. They weren't hard to the point of frustrating; rather there were some that made you really thing about what you were trying to do. If you like little puzzle games I'd recommend this one.
I was looking for a cosy relaxing game to play and The Last Campfire was perfect for what I wanted. Beautiful visuals, relaxing music and great game overall. The puzzles aren't too taxing, they're just the right amount of trickiness to get you thinking. If you're looking for a cosy game that has a lovely story to it then this is for you. Highly recommend!
At first i thought it was just a simple puzzle game. But the further i got the more i realised that there was a way deeper meaning behind this. I could relate to a lot of the stuff that were being said so it was very enjoyable.
Good duration, not too complicated puzzles, nice for a relaxing small adventure
The puzzles in this game are very intuitive and range in difficulty, and I had a lot of fun working through them! The story is interpretive with a wholesome message with beautiful visuals and a great soundtrack - I highly recommend!
This game has made me feel like no other has. It has been 2 years since I played it, yet I still think about it from time to time. It is incredibly depressing, but it does that in such a beautiful way. I feel like it completely broke me. Definitely play this if you like to think deeply.
I can't begin to explain how much I loved this game. It usually goes on a big discount and is 100% worth it. The ambience, the narrative, the music and the art style... Beautiful. Even though it's a relatively short game with puzzles that aren't difficult, I think it's perfect for what they were going for.
I adored the dialogue and story which I didn't expect would be much given the game's length, and as an avid fan of (puzzle) platformers, I knew I'd enjoy it, but it still exceeded my expectations.
