What they have, unfortunately, is you...
Step into the Dungeons of Dredmor! Embrace your destiny! Face evil of the likes the world has never known - the terrifying Swarmies, the undulating Thrusties, and the adoreable nest-building Diggles. Worship Inconsequentia, the Goddess of Pointless Sidequests, or try your luck as a devotee of the nameless Lutefisk God. Cast powerful magic learned from the dark business warlocks of the school of Necronomiconomics, or summon the Viking Runes of your ancestors to blast your foes with thunder and lightning! Discover the power that can be had by wielding a bizarre armament of devastating weaponry such as the Interdimensional Axe, the Plastic Ring, and the Invisible Shield (if you can remember where you left it). Wield shoes decorated by the Dwarven Glittersmiths, all of whom have now committed suicide because of their shame, and embrace the joys of destroying giant moustache-wielding brick demons with a mace decorated with tawdry, delicious bacon.
While you’re at it, be prepared to die. A lot. In hideous, screaming pain that makes you throw your keyboard out the window.
The Dungeons of Dredmor await. Are you ready for them?

i like this game because it was the first roguelike that I played and I really enjoy that genre and this game turned me onto it.
Have you ever wanted to through yourself uselessly at a wall of strange, delusional, and often deadly monsters? Have you ever wanted to chuckle softly to yourself as you die for the millionth time to a bird with the bodily proportions of an Olympic athlete? Then you NEED to get your hands on Dungeons of Dredmor, a game, which although a rogue-like for sure, makes sure that you never experience gamer rage because its just to stupid when you do die to something absurd. The real difficulty in this game is that you never will finish it, if all you think of it as is silly, there are plenty of numbers to crunch and make go up so that you do not go down, and if you take your time and think about your next action, you will eventually make it down to the last floor and fight Lord Dredmor himself. If you don't... be planning your next character now.
time to kill some goddamn dirty diggles
A fun goofy roguelike dungeon crawler, would 1000% recommend this game!!!
Probably the first game I bought on steam with my own money. Lots of fond memories of killing diggles and finding otherworldly builds while dungeon crawling. The market on steam is much larger now, so a lot of what this game does is done better by other games, but this game is still a treat that you can easily spend a few hours on, especially for the price.
This is so close to being *that* game, the one you really want, the dungeon crawler with the deep and wide crafting, the unpredictable and varied runs, the impactful character progression choices, the lack of narrative fluff and pomposity, the fun and challenge, the complete absence of gatcha mechanics and clutters. It doesn't have a few things you really want to see: your character avatar changing as you gear and level up, a surface world above the dungeon, more immersive graphics. And for my taste I'd prefer a little less humour and a little more fantasy realism. But the things it does have become rare enough that getting them even without the other stuff feels just so good. Game has got better with age because there's been so little development in this direction over the last 15 years that even imperfect work like this hits the spot more deeply and truly than any number of modern RPGs and roguelites. It's good!
This game rocks. Played it since i was little. Still havent won or really learned all that much.
Went down to floor 6, entire area was a black void. Tried going back up a floor, game crashed. Tried loading autosave, didn't work and just takes me back to the main menu.
Also, got stuck in a room after a candelabra got warped in front of the entrance and I couldn't get around it.
Most time spent micro managing inventory.
Game keeps hitching for a second all the time.
Thinks it's charming and funny when it isn't.
Maybe mods make it good? Who knows, I thought it was awful. Would not recommend.
I can't believe I passed over this game for so long. It is so engaging, fun, and the humor is just, it gets better the smarter that you are, it's good.
The game is worth whatever price you're looking at right now. Expansions too.
Wacky dungeon crawler that is tons of fun and has mods
Very fun, highly replayable, rock solid, engaging yet approachable mechanics and a unique charm to the world in terms of flavour lots to explore. Runs on most anything, spent a good chunk of off time in high school with this, shining recommendation.
I play the game. I enjoy the game. It's cheap too!
But I really don't recommend it.
It's a nice simple dungeon explorer - kinda reminds me of the pixel dungeon games in some ways. That's a good thing. If you want complex, go do T.O.M.E., angband variants, Cogmind, A.D.O.M. etc.
But there's some issues that are just frustrating. Eg. the key bindings section just doesn't in any way show you how to do things. Try reading up on how to sell an item, shoot a crossbow bolt etc and you'll see what I mean. You will spend a lot of time pressing the wrong things, not working out how to do it due to somewhat poor UI, or just not being able to do things. Or... you'll be on google search constantly to find out how to do anything...
Kills me because it SHOULD be awesome. And at this price, I probably should give it a thumbs up.
But just beware you've got a great game, with great graphics and feel, with a lack of polish to a point where you will have to commit quite hard to working out all the things you need to do just to play it. Cast a spell? Sure. if it needs mana to maintain and you want it off, work out how... (there's an 'x' next to the icon that shows the status to do this BTW). But that's not intuitive, the same button that casts the spell won't turn it off, etc etc.
So good. So close. So... frustratingly not user friendly.
I hate A.D.O.M. Why? because unlike T.O.M.E., Angband, Cogmind etc it's large but they give you 85,000 ways to do things. To me it's just too complex and confusing. Dungeons of Dredmor is like the antithesis of A.D.O.M. - instead of 85,000 ways to do something, you have to work out the ONE way to do it...
I will keep playing. it is good. but it's also horribly flawed - and with a lot of good quick traditional roguelikes around, you will likely have better options available to you.
Glimpse to the earlier roguelikes. Fun game with lot's of replayability. Personally I find the runs to be a tad too long. But I understand the weight it gives to each run. Graphics are inspired by munchkin - might be hard to swallow but do try it nevertheless.
Funny dungeoncrawler roguelike with WAY too many references.
Great gameplay, every run is something different. It's one of those difficult games btw, the type you don't win on your first try. Complex crafting, upgrading, and minmaxing for hours if that's your thing. Interesting magic system with tons of spells if that's more your style. If that's not your thing, cool too! Pick up a nuke strapped to a hammer shaft, laying on the ground (while wearing jorts and a sombrero), and go wild. It's the type of game you play for a couple weeks, lose a run late game and give up, see it in your library a year later and think, "Hey that game was fun, I'll play that again". Also, so many achievements if you're a perfectionist looking for your next game to 100%.
Oh and also cool modding community! And really easy to start modding it too. So if you're interested in that kinda stuff, this is the game for you.
10/10 would recommend.
Dungeons of Dredmor is an enjoyable love letter to classic roguelikes that manages to poke fun at the genre while also being a solid addition to it. The pop culture references are like a time capsule of 2011 internet humor, which can be both charming and obnoxious in equal measure. Beneath the goofy exterior there's a surprising amount of mechanical depth that will keep you engaged once the novelty of the writing wears off.
It isn't the best roguelike I've ever played, but it certainly has more personality than your average dungeon crawler. I had fun with it and think it's worth the price of admission if you're a roguelike fan. You probably won't dump a ton of hours into it, but it's good for a few weekends worth of adventuring and diggle slaying.
Been playing this game on and off for like 10+ years now. I still have no idea whats going on.
Why am I on fire now? Why is the enemy on fire now instead? What do these 16 different icons mean? Why did I take no damage there? What the hell did I just die to? Where did this sword come from? Why are you suddenly not attacking me? Why am I stunned now? Why can I sometimes teleport and sometimes not? Why can I pick up this trap but not that trap?
Fun game though, quite chill, low pressure. Save whenever you quit, so easy to just hop in and out of.
Very funny, dungeon crawler, computer game.
Good roguelike with lots of items and skills.
