Early vr games are always going to be a let down. art is pretty cool, gameplay is a drag.
Wow, this is eye candy and very unique in its approach. Im onky just finished the first level and the start of the second level and they look beautiful. Great feeling of presences and being able to use your gun like a bat when the bombs come in adds a really cool game mechanic..paid much more for much less and im only just at the beginning. Will update as i go.
Played on Valve Index.
I compare every wave shooter to Space Pirate Trainer which is the best I found so far.
Singularity 5 has nice artistic graphics, but it ends there for me. The graphics can't make up for the missing game play at all.
The enemies are all right in your face.
Explosions and enemy projectiles - like grenades and some rocky formations - keep you from seeing anything.
The difference between the weapons seem irrelevant.
The reloading is a useless mechanic as the amount of enemies needs you to shoot permanently.
Its difficult only because of enemy overload.
Maybe I am wrong and did not invest enough time in the game.
Happy about comments and maybe other wave shooter suggestions.
Now im not one to EVER write reviews about games because im just that lazy, But after playing this game for a short while im absolutely amazed by this game from the waiting area to the actual levels. The thing that stands out to me is that this beautiful game wasnt made by a MASSIVE company and its even better than what a bigger sized company could do I really love the work and talent that went into the design of this game I rate this 10/10 I recommend.
30 minutes in and I already gifted another copy to a friend.
Is it innovative? Not really. Does it have a lot of content? Nah. Is there a lot to do in this game? Nope.
BUT, even then it is a joy to play. Fantastic graphics and art direction make this game a treat to the eyes. The music is great and fitting as well, making the world feel immersive and captivating. The guns feel surprisingly good despite being a bit odd looking. For some reason the throwing mechanics might be the best I've ever used in a VR game. The game is refreshingly hard and a bit chaotic. You might not die easily but you get swarmed in a matter of seconds, making every second a true fight for survival. I love the mechanic of swinging away grenades and crystals blocking your vision, making it difficult to aim and forcing you to make fast decisions.
There are negatives too of course. The enemies are very similar and have odd attack animations. I didn't like how your grenade could collide with the ones thrown by the drones, often making it impossible to throw them at all if there were drone grenades on the screen. I also wish there was a movement based option to reload, perhaps through a quick flick of your wrist of something, as the trackpad/touch menu on Vive is not very intuitive to use. The first level had some lighting issues on Vive (foggy light/godrays).
While not technically as impressive as for example games like Space pirate trainer, Singularity 5 is just as fun. It lacks content as well as replay value, but honestly I feel like these 30 minutes have already been worth the about 5 euros I spent on it. It really reminded me of the days when you got some change from your parents and tried a game at an arcade and it felt like the best game ever made. This is a wave defense done correctly in almost every aspect, and albeit being a bit costly for its content, its still worth it. I don't often jump the gun on reviewing games and prefer to finish them first, but as there is a discount at the moment I'd like to encourage people who are considering to buy this game to give it a shot. Amongst all the disappointing games that get released for VR weekly, Singularity 5 manages to stand out in a positive way.
Well done developers. A solid 7/10 from me.
Singularity 5 stands out from the crowd of wave shooters only with it's visuals. Gameplay is ok, but nothing ground breaking.
Pros:
+ Very distinct and memorable design of environments, highly polished and optimized graphics
+ Frantic "Space Pirate Trainer"-like gameplay
Cons:
- For some reason, when you hit an enemy's weak spot, word 'FATAL' appears above it. It looks really weird, breaks the immersion and doesn't make much sense overall
- It takes about an hour to beat the game on Normal difficulty
Well made wave shooter with unique visuals. The difficulty is ridiculous though, it feels impossible to beat the final encounter even on easy. Doesn't help that there are no laser sights or crosshairs, and the projectiles don't actually go where the gun barrel is pointed.
Worth $5. The game is pretty. The graphics are different and cool. But, the game-play does not live up to the graphics.
It's a static wave-shooter. It is necessary to change weapons depending on the enemy in front of you. Sometimes there are multiple different enemies in front of you. So, there are different kinds of shots coming at you. Some throw grenades. The grenades launch fast, but then slow down and kind of hover. While all of the other shots are coming at me, I tended to ignore the grenades. They were just in the way. So, to play well, you'll have to hit the grenades away with the guns, while trying to dodge shots and shoot back at the enemies with the correct weapon. Oh, did I not mention re-loading?
So, there is too much going on at the same time. There are too many different things to remember to do while under pressure. It is also very slow during the tutorial. There are only 5 levels.
I would have been disappointed had I paid $10. I only recommend it while on sale.

Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
This is a very stylized, artistic wave shooter. You eventually get 3 weapons to choose from, grenades you can toss, & lots of enemies to defeat. You also use your arms to deflect enemy grenades or these magic barriers they put in front of you. You start off riding an elevator to the top, then you stand on a platform, then you ride a futuristic-looking motorcycle, until finally you meet the end boss. There are 5 total levels in all, with easy, medium, & hard difficulties. You
The whole thing took me over an hour to finally defeat, although I did have to cheat a little bit. I was going along fine on normal difficulty until the End Boss ... then after several deaths I just swallowed my pride and did that level on easy mode. The checkpoints are pretty generous and even on the boss fights there are checkpoints as far as their stages. However, if you are having trouble with a stage in a boss fight, you're just gonna have to start from the beginning of that stage and master that stage to proceed further.
I enjoyed the challenge. There is just a lot of different things to be mindful in this game ... whether it's the grenades being tossed at you or the magic barriers to break or enemies hiding behind cover or just the kill priority in general (which enemy to defeat first). You can reload guns manually or they reload automatically at the end of their clip. Because of the reload time, it's usually better to reload manually and find little breaks in the action to do the reloads. You will also have to dodge some enemy attacks. Just keeping track of everything you have to do is where the challenge of this game really comes from.
Although I enjoyed the game a lot, there are some issues. The biggest issue for me is the gun angle. It is just a tad bit off. It's at a downward angle just slightly (to be level with the ground) and there is no option to change it. It made aiming just a little more difficult than it needed to be. The other issue is the content with only 5 levels. Despite those issues, this was a very fun game. I loved the art style, the music was good, and the game is challenging.
Sale Price Rating 8/10. Normal Price Rating 7/10.
This game is worth every penny! Awesome graphics as well as great game play. Plenty of content, and very smooth. Polished look and perfect for VR environment.
Guys...please keep developing more content...you're doing a great job there! Love it!!!
Really nice Artdirection and the levels look fantastic.
However, the enemies quickly get too repetetive for my taste, and it becomes a mixture of shooting the same enemies over and over again, while avoiding incoming grenades.
Can't really say too much bad for 5$ though, so if you just like to play waveshooters and enjoy nicely crafted maps, then this is a game for you.
Otherwise, it's better to move on.
Just played through the first 2 stages. I've played a boatload of VR games, and the music + aesthetics of this one are unlike anything else I've seen in VR.
Worth it!
Wow, I know it's been said but this game is STUNNING. And for a team of 5 to make it? Incredible.
Yes, it's technically a "static" wave shooter, but you do have some segments with a hoverbike, and it has some good variety of weapons and enemies.
I saw another review that suggested it was like a "VR music video" and I have to agree that the music fits really well with the action generally.
Definitely get this game if you enjoy shooting things and amazing visuals, it's worth full price with its 5 levels, range of difficulty, and replayability.
Otherwise, buy it on sale just to see what the future of VR quality environments will be like. It's a shame this game doesn't have a mode that just lets you teleport/locomotion around the various maps as a spectator!
This game is awesome. I bought it after reading other reviews and I was not disappointed. This game is true to the screenshots and videos. The world and ambiance are both beautifully crafted, the music matches the feel of the game so perfectly. The combat is varied, shooting, grenades, grenade launcher, deflecting projectiles, smashing crystals. This game looks remarkably polished, I didn't experience any bugs, visual or audio glitches. Would have payed $20 for this game.
Would love to see a better way to deal with multiple incoming projectiles, perhaps a shield or shotgun type weapon.
Fantastic game overall, highly recommend!
Games pretty awesome. They had a bit of a gap on the instructions before, but they fixed it and now you can understand what to do from the start, which is superbly helpful. Game gets frantic and crazy for sure. If you like a challenge and a crazy fun time. Play this game. NOT easy. Even on normal it gets pretty frantic about the third level, but fun as hell. Good job guys
It’s a super engaging vr shooter. I've played it a ton and loved the aesthetics. I’ll pick it up again after my hand gets unbroken so I can beat it without needing easy difficulty.
screw this cast man I need my wrist to hit the reload button.
EDIT-
My hand is back and so am I. the game is still all that as I remember. One thing I really think compliments the visual design is the Black-White-Gold aesthetic. while vr wave shooters aren't really loved and respected here in 2019, you probably didn't buy this game for the gameplay alone. when you clicked on that store page, you saw a compelling figure, a statue? This was made by monochrome Paris; we all didn't know a clue about who monochrome Paris is. What they are. they are a small group of people who excel all visual design standards by a truckload, with tons of personal or promotional projects under their name. and that’s an understatement. You bought this game because it looked so fresh, so aesthetically pleasing. Huge structures that are eerie and beautiful all at once surround you. Through the game I caught myself wondering of the visual design. Admiring it. And that’s what brings me to my fist point.
Is the gameplay super engaging? No. The gameplay is repetitive, but you have heard that over 100 times in 100 different games so allow me to specify. You are given three categories of weapons to choose from (excluding grenades) the pistol things, the canon things, and the machine gun things. I don’t know what to call them. I barely used the first two once I unlocked the machine guns at the end of the game. Time is allowed for enemies to get stale right before they throw a new one at you, which I personally don’t really mind. When I say, “It’s a super engaging VR shooter.” I mainly speak of the visual design. The music in the game. OHHH the music! I’ve downloaded those melodious tunes so quick when Monochrome emailed me telling me that it was on SoundCloud.
The game is good.
The game is pretty.
The music SLAPS.
The gameplay? I Don’t hate it so ill give it a thumbs up anyway.
Its in the middle of the night(3am) and my controller just died. if that wasnt the case i would have played way more. I just felt a strong sense of awe and wanted to give a positive review before going to bed. The first level was freaking awesome! Maybe im sleep deprived but something in this reminded me of the fifth element, the sheer futuristic elegance. the frenchness. i dont know, but it was awesome. gonna update this when i have actually slept(and hopefully eaten breakfast) tomorrow.
update 1: This game is frantic. If i may compare it with Serious sam the last hope where you always feel like a badass that can take on whatever, in this you feel more like you are against all odds fighting through impossible odds. I died many times in the last hope, in this so far i havent died but i constantly feel like im about to loose. and it feels good. I actually, for the first time in VR, felt really intimidated when faced with a giant enemy. so intimidated i had to quit to take a breath before facing it( i only saw it in the end of a stage and realised i would meet it in the next one). Jet islands giant baddies, skyrim vr's dragons, windlands 2's big robots or the giant end boss of shadow uprising never made me feel intimidated. in this i was so intimidated i had to quit for a while to breathe, that says a lot. i will dive back into this soon to face this giant monstrocity.
Wow! Maybe the best wave shooter I've ever played! Really artistic, unique and fun - super immersive - I knocked some things off my shelves! lol... This is a must have for 10$ great price - perfect for VR parties - very intuitive... A+
Okay, it's Holiday season and most of us are a bit tight in the wallet, so I figured I'd quickly post my initial impressions of this title. Is there a any substance here, or is it another participant in the more and more common bait and switch title releases (you know, baited by some reasonably good looking screen shots and bombastic writing about the awesomeness of the title... only to find a pre-chewed, tasteless, blurry, and nonoptimized nightmare come true) :)
So, the verdict? Definitely not a bait and switch! This is an INITIAL feedback, but out the gate it's obviously well put together and runs smoothly. It's a bit hard to judge or describe in some ways because the art direction is quite different, but in a pleasing way. All of the standard Wave shooter boxes have been checked so far, and has a few interesting game mechanics that set it apart from the rest - in fact I actually plan to continue to play this one based on what I have seen thus far.
Worth $10? To me? Most likely, given that even right now it stands apart from the pack, and at current velocity is headed into the "fair price" zone for quality work.
I will update this if I find anything dramatic either way, but for now, happy gaming, and here's to avoiding the stinkers out there!
I love this game. I play a lot of wave shooters and this one is amazing. All the game is beautifull and original, i have never seen that style before. I recomend
