About the Game

The war persisted for 20 more years only to end in flames when the Nazis launched nuclear missiles on most of Europe. In the aftermath, the heart of Europe remains shrouded in the mystery of complete destruction and deadly radiation, inaccessible to the rest of the world.

You play as Szymon, a 12-year-old boy who’s just discovered a massive Nazi bunker while wandering the barren, nuclear wasteland of Poland after his mother’s death. He’s searching for an unknown man from a photograph his mother cherished. Who is he? Will you be able to find him?

Descend into the retro futuristic bunker where advanced, industrial technology is intertwined with mysterious, Slavic pagan imagery and explore the underground city hidden within. Uncover the story of the bunker, from its takeover by Polish rebels to the ultimate fate of its inhabitants. What happened to them?

Despite the desolation of the bunker, a mysterious girl named Ewa contacts Szymon through the bunker’s technology. If he can only find her, she might know the man in the picture. If he can find her, he finally won’t be alone…

I was hoping for a good story for a walking simulator but it didn't really charm me in at the beginning. The speed of the character is way too slow (even shift doesn't add much) and game can get stuck at certain checkpoints (you need to change the resolution or lock the fps on 30). Paradise lost my motivation to play.
Paradise Lost may not be perfect, and its gameplay might not appeal to everyone, but if you’re someone who values atmosphere, storytelling, and immersive world-building, this game is absolutely worth experiencing, while the mechanics of Paradise Lost can feel clunky especially with the painfully slow movement, the game drew me in with its story. I was so curious to uncover what had happened, so I kept playing!
The sound design was pretty good! Every creak, whisper, and distant echo adding to the immersion, making the world feel hauntingly real. The voice acting, was pretty good/okay. The atmosphere is eerie and unsettling, I found myself constantly on edge, expecting sudden jump scares that never came lol.
As I said If you enjoy atmospheric storytelling and don’t mind a slow pace, it’s definitely worth a playthrough.
This title has just about all the same generic issues you can find on literally every other game.
If that doesn't bother you,
This title is also something of a long and slow choices-don't-matter walking simulator.
If that doesn't bother you,
This title is great. It's absolutely pleasant when it goes on sale.
I was expecting something like the City of Rapture. It has all the perks of an enjoyable series without action.
It will definitely peak the interest of point and click players.
I really enjoyed spending hours roaming around this abandoned vault. It starts out slow, and there are a few small learning curve mechanisms. It had an issue that I didn't notice about 6 hours in. When I came back I had to replay a chapter. The game doesn't have loading states. It has a continued chapter function. It includes Y routes and a majority of decisions are left or right. It surprisingly did not have a lot of war related info. It was all specific to the bunker. I suppose that's relatable with most titles.
I enjoyed the aesthetic. I can't say most players will fully appreciate the nuance of moderately advanced war technology. There are some reviews that ask the fitting question "what genre is this from?" which this pertains the question "what genre is this thing fitting?". There is a very transparent collection of memorabilia that identifies fitting ww2 objects with the diesel punk genre. The mechanisms responsible for tuning lever activated platforms by simple voltaic batteries powering substation generators are steampunk. Those systems use uncarved conduits to pass extreme voltages over to brand new digital servers and workstations with extravagant operating systems which are far more cyberpunk. This title attempts to explore a place where I believe cyberpunk is introduced into a diesel punk world. Or this subcategory already sparingly drips among the vastness of our marketplace. This title does add something to our perception about modern history. It manages to throw a lot in one place without it being messy. After the amount of time I have spent on this, I can say that this story is much clearer because of the time it took.
What a game. Worth every penny, I loved the voice acting and subtle environmental strorytelling.
Go buy it, you'll like it.
I really think more gamers should consider playing this game. It is very relaxing and interesting to find out the ending. Really enjoyed my time.
Paradise Lost is a story rich, mostly point-and-click, walking simulator - with some consequences to your interactions. The world created by the story and the graphics is captivating. Initially trying to figure out how to operate some of the mechanics other than walking is a little troublesome, but you can quickly catch on. I may have missed quite a bit as my achievements didn't reflect as high as I had hoped. I know of at least one area I thought I could return to, but found I could not go back. Given the information above, you might find this game worthwhile. I'm glad I played it, and I recommend it.
If you're looking for a walking simulator story experience, this is one of the best out there with some of the greatest worldbuilding and most stunning visuals I have seen in a while. If that doesn't hook you... this game ain't for you, there's nothing else here.
It's such a shame this game never got updated by the developers or got more polish afterwards. Really the only thing to complain about are technical issues that have easy solutions and have been fixed by the community for years. If you're stuck on reloading a savefile got to the community posts, there's a solution for it. Movement feels slow, interactions with objects are clunky and there's random points in the game where you fall through the map or the game crashes. If that would have happened more often to me I wouldn't have bothered to finish it and it's what kept me from finishing my first attempt from years ago. I'm glad I gave it another chance because this is a game worth remembering, but you really need to be prepared for some frustrating jank that never got ironed out.
A nice lazy Sunday afternoon distraction. The story is interesting, somewhat predictable, but engaging enough to keep my interest. The movement is clunky and your character sounds asthmatic. You can't load from a save point, on restore you can't move, so you have to restart the level.
I knew it was a walking simulator going into the game. But you have walking simulators and you have this, it`s like they forgot to put a game into the game. i did finish it to see if the story would go somewhere interesting, but the world building was kind of wasted on the story told and you could see what was happening an hour into the game.
Make Walking FASTER
The game is fine as a pure walking simulator where nothing else matters: no puzzles or enemies, just the story. But it would be so much better with at least 50% faster walking.
And you can get stuck while loading the save file:

Crashed at some point and thanks to the autosave it loads directly into the crash.
I hope the devs update the game
It was a beautiful game. It was emotional and with the horror feelings, and was atmospheric. I bought on heavy sale. And it is worth its money for me.
Sad. Awesome.
A rather good game. Good story with tough decisions in the end, and excellent graphics and design. I only wish there was more to explore, like where the regular people live and such. And I wish there was as scenario where both could leave the place in the end.
Interesting story and good world building. Not much for gameplay but all you really do is walk around and look at stuff.
Unfortunately reloading from a checkpoint breaks the game. Your character will not move if you do this. You can restart the level to fix it but it breaks the immersion because your literally just walking through everything just to get to where you were and that just makes the game way more boring than it already is.
Excslente juego!
Great story, interesting puzzles.
The story was intriguing and the environment too, you just have to read all the notes and the conversation, its a walking sim but i consider it a short visual novel. Didnt encounter any glitches either.
Great story, plot and graphics.
Unique and amazing.
Wonderful story.
there is a bug in the game. Make sure you start a new level before exiting. when you load game again you will be stuck where ever you stopped. use Esc and restart level everything will work. i did enjoy the game even with the bug. good story line, etc. have fun
I could never imagine such a story, it had a really beautiful story, the music was great, but the gameplay was a bit dry
But in general, I can say that it was a really different and interesting experience
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It is certainly not a game everyone would appreciate, but I did. The story is imaginative and an experience very few games will come close to drawing. I especially liked the graphics and atmosphere, it is captivating and engrossing. Many other reviews talked about the slow walking, and yes, it is a bit slow, but I think it was fast enough to allow me to take everything in. Had it been much faster, I am sure I would have missed a lot and may not have felt like I had been a part of it. You can press shift to go about 10% faster, which I did in places because some areas there are more than one path and I wanted to explore every part.
I rarely buy any games at full price, so I'm not sure if I can speak about worth or value. Having finished the game, looking back, I am happy with my purchase and don't regret buying it at all. I had fun and am impressed with what I found.
This is a visually superior experience! There's a lot of attention to detail here and no level ever looks the same. A lot of variety to behold. It's essentially a walking sim where notes and narration tell the story. Personally I didn't find the slow-paced walking a problem, after all it's a walking sim and I'm fine just mooching about looking at the lush graphics. It's kind of like walking through a museum where each room/space evokes mixed feelings. I needed to be in a relaxed mood to play it because it's mostly walking, reading and of course ogling at the superb environments. Even though it's mainly chill, there's some experiment rooms towards the end that were subtly unsettling. Every room has the sense that life once was. The game runs fine and I only encountered one bug where I was stuck between two train carriages upon continuing a saved game and had to restart the level but I didn't find any others. Generally, I liked this and I hope the developers continue to make more visually stunning games!
Really boring.
Works great in VR though with UEVR
A good game that flirts with greatness.
So...this is a walking simulator. You walk, a lot, and very slowly. You can hold shift down and that increases your speed by 10%. Now, 10% might not sound like a lot...and it isn't. I did not like that part.
Despite all that, I found it had a story that kept me engaged and wanting more. The story really is the highlight of the game. You slowly piece everything together and I did appreciate that.
The scenery looked gorgeous and varied.
The voice acting was passable, but not great.
The ending was okay, if a little underwhelming.
Overall I found it to be a solid game that could've been just a little bit better.
It’s a walking sim so if you don’t like the genre walk on, everyone else’s reviews cover the main points, However I can add a dilemma for you to consider before playing:
If you read the hidden achievements you will spoil the plot, unfortunately by not doing so you won’t be able to harvest the 12 achievements without another playthrough.
Personally, as much I as enjoyed the game I did spoil the plot and was unable to collect the other achievements anyway, as there is only one save as you progress. Won’t be coming back myself but for £4 can’t complain.
It's like watching a good film except every now and again you have to press A.
The pacing is good, the story is good, the game doesn't need to be any longer.
You walk PAINFULLY slow throughout the story but I guess that helps with the overall feel of the story.
Defo would recommend to someone who wants an easy 3/4 hours of storytelling but don't go into this expecting Bioshock levels of action. No shooting, no puzzles, no jump scares, you just walk and explore.
3/5, worth grabbing when it is on sale.
I usually don't mind walking simulators, especially when they have good stories, but I didn't really like this one. The setting was pretty unique, but the story just didn't go into it enough. The story that the game chose instead to pursue was confusing and, in my opinion, pretty uninteresting. The character also walks way too slow and the sprint function is basically nonexistent. There is also a very annoying bug that causes the character to be stuck in place if you try to load a checkpoint. This makes it so that you have to finish an episode in one sitting and when you play it again you have to restart from the beginning of the episode. This game sounded interesting, but it became more of a chore to me than anything.
Well done environment and atmosphere, medium interesting story, clunky gameplay. Too slow-paced for me to enjoy, but that’s on me since it’s described as a walking simulator.
dumb interactive novel where all you do is press X to win, literally. They could of added puzzles or made it a hide in seek horror game, or even different paths in the levels, but nope just through level and press X to finish.
