Stability is key.
Decent game.
Very short, very simple, not much replay value. But I also got it for a reasonable value on a sale. So I guess I got my values worth I suppose...
It has some cool original concepts, though never really manages to fully make the most of them.
Apparently there is a DLC, but I can find absolutely no trace of it in my Steam shop or on the game's library section. Not available in my region or something? /shrug
A fun city-builder with some neat mechanics (like keeping the city balanced) and a cool theme. It's a quick one though. Finished the final goals in only six hours, and there isn't much replay value. Certainly worth the price for me, but if you like to spend hundreds of hours on a single city build, then this isn't the one for you.
Decently length and was engaged the whole time I played. I enjoyed it so much I played NG+ Hard to get all the achievements. Highly recommend
Relaxing and cinematic. Its a great game for the spectacle of it.
I wanted to like it. The game feels like a proof of concept for an engine. Making cities is fun, and the game is pretty and has a consistent art style.
If you're looking for stuff to do, there aren't all that many ways to complete the tasks or game objectives - there's essentially one way to do most of the tasks in the game. For example, if your citizens need water, you have to find it nearby, trade for it, or build a water condenser. That's it. Need food? Find it nearby, trade for it, or build a farm. Go to a frozen part of the word? Only one building for keeping your stuff warm.
QOL improvements are needed. I was also genuinely upset that when a workshop style building is made, it can't be toggled off/on. For example, a building that converts quartz to glass requires workers. Suppose you want those workers to do something else. You must destroy the building in order to use those workers. Can't just turn it off. A bit infuriating, and they're always working.
Once you progress in the quest line, cities will start sending you resources. Forever. One starts sending you wood, and they will do that for all of eternity. Can't tell them to stop or cap the resource. This wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but your resources use a pooled storage building, which is quickly clogged up by cities sending you stuff.
Just seems unfinished. I would probably buy an "Airborne Kingdom 2" And there is this suspicious looking Airborne Empire game...
Nice game -- the exploration and resource collection mechanics combine well with the city builder gameplay to keep it fun but still relaxing and light on difficulty.
it's nice to play, and easy to get on hand, those mission and story for a quick game like this is ok.
the ice land is the hardest part, nearly fall down in some sense, but can have enough people to make it work at last.
8/10 for game play, and idea.
The concept is cool. It's a slow, relaxing city builder, but for me the world was too drab to want to explore and tasks too repetitive to want to build. I would consider checking out the sequel however.
I was surprised how fun this game was. It feels like an adventure in a steampunk type world. Be sure to try to build things as symmetrically as possible.
My review is strictly for players looking to play using gamepad or handheld PCs. The game claims partial controller support but that’s false.
The game has zero gamepad detection or in-game UI. If you have a steam deck, you can use steam input to manually map keyboard & mouse to stream deck buttons. But in-game UI & input has zero controller support.
Definitely false advertising
Special in its own way
Among the best
A lot
Very much
Liked
Was cool
Managed to finish it....... had enough fun to give it a like though
I tried....
Great game, not too complex but plenty of room to play
Playable, but fairly miserable on Steam Deck. The “Partial controller support” was apparently broken in an update and has never been fixed. You can just manage using Keyboard and Mouse control template, but it’s not a great time. Text is incredibly tiny, with no scaling options.
If the devs would only fix the controls and add some settings for UI adjustment, this could be really nice on deck, but they seem uninterested in working on this any further.
I wish there weren't a binary choice of like and dislike, for this game sits exactly in between in the 'it's fine' category. It's neat idea with an okay execution with a moderate amount of fun you can get out of it. Even the music is painfully mediocre. I guess it's fine for the asking price, but don't expect to be blown away by it.
vary gud
Honestly I had a lot of fun with this game. Needing to literally balance the kingdom added an interesting element, along with managing everything else such as resources and happiness. Unfortunately I thought I was ready to head to the far north, and boy was I wrong about that.
Sometimes you pick up a game and find that it's not just a way to pass the time, it also feels like a work of art. This is such a beautiful, elegant little game. The music is mesmerizing, the art is so unique, and there is so much to explore that it didn't feel like just another city builder to me. The balance aspect didn't get old right up to the end. Even though it only took me a few hours to reach the final objectives (though I didn't get all the bonus objectives), I really enjoyed it. I was unsurprised when the credits came up and I saw that this studio is just four people, with collaborators. Now I'm going to go back to build that orrery and find those trees...
Fun little indie game. I finished the main story in about 9 hours with no idea what I was doing at first. I was grateful for the tech that allows 100% recovery of materials when moving buildings, so I didn't have to start the game all over just to get things laid out properly. :P The tundra bonus mission added an extra level of challenge and fun. I'm not sure how replayable this game is, since the map isn't completely random (only slightly)... but it's nice to look at and fun to play!
This game is quite simply put Excellent. From start to finish an absolute delight. You have a solid citybuilder that does everything right, in addition the game's primary mechanic of being a mobile city doing quests makes the game limitlessly more interesting and fun then it has right to be. Just a solid 10/10 best game I've played all year.
Very good game, but quite short. Like Frostpunk. Maybe worth $5 but quality.
A city builder with a short and sweet campaign, with a handful of optional objectives, Airborne Kingdom takes the idea of a moving city, and adds on the challenge of keeping the city in balance while maintaining the design and structure that you want.
The campaign has you explore the map and reunite 12 different civilizations, all while building up your own structure and supplies, in order to keep your people alive as you complete short quests for each of the major cities. Exploring lets you access resources as well as complete optional quests, and find the remaining civilizations you need to complete the game. For someone who hasn't played many city builders in the past, this was a great introduction to the genre, and the campaign was the perfect length, ~4 hours without completing any of the side quests and constantly running a 3X speed. It's definitely worth checking out, and I can't wait for Airborne Empire.
a beautiful and mesmerizing game. i absolutely recommend for people who want a unique city builder.
Pros: Unique design and story, intuitive UI, and all around a pretty chill game.
Cons: When running on Linux, it does lock up on me after about 15 minutes. Not sure why, and it could be my system.
Interesting game
Brilliant and awesome. What a wholesome little story! I love this game! Always wanted to play a proper moving city game.
Fun little game! Enjoyed my 8 hours with it. Simple to play, fun to complete.
This game is good but not worth the $10.61 because it's very limited and there's not much to do.
Good game of city building on the sky.
slow and boring, watch 5 minutes of gameplay instead of auto-buying based on % positive ratings.
Cute little citybuilder with a unique mechanic. I enjoyed it. It's not very long unless you choose a hard mode. Looking forward to the sequel.
A cosy little city simulation. Fun for relaxing to and not thinking too hard!
.
This game is nothing but untapped potential. The devs have made a great world and fantastic system but failed to take it all the way to a fantastic game. I really did enjoy the game, but felt disappointed when I realized how shallow it truly is. 9 hours to finish the story, and I dont really see the point in subsequent playthroughs since all it really unlocks is a challenge mode of sorts. If you're looking for a more relaxed city builder go ahead and pick it up, I'm looking forwards to the sequel in the hopes it is a step forwards.
It's a very simple game, offering very little content, no challenge, and no replayability. Sure, it’s “relaxing”, but it’s boring - even at max speed I feel like playing an almost idle game. I finished the story in 7 hours. Then I played New Game + (which offers nothing extra, even the map is identical), on hard difficulty, and got all the Steam achievements, in another 10 hours.
If you want a city builder, get Frostpunk, Timberborn, or Against the Storm. If you want a flying city, get Dream Engines: Nomad Cities. And if you want a flying base where you are alone, get Forever Skies.
In terms of city management, the game is extremely simplified. Buildings require workers at the construction time, and they cannot be paused - your forge is not producing anything because you don't have ore? 3 workers are still pretending to be super busy working the forge. You build clinics to provide medical care, but there is zero information about your capacity, so you can easily overshoot, especially after you research some improvements.
There are also a lot of UI/UX issues:
- Camera rotates and zooms in whenever you click an object in the world, so you spend a big portion of the game moving it back.
- Issuing the city's move order and moving the camera are both done with the right mouse button, and I frequently end up changing where my city is going by accident.
- You can see on the map where your city is going, but you cannot set the destination on the map. You have to close the map, rotate the camera, click somewhere far, check the map where you set the destination - rinse and repeat.
- Hover-over popups often don't disappear.
- There is an exclamation mark over the research tree when nothing is being researched, even after everything has been researched already.
- Most buildings have no information of the consumption/production ratios.
- It's not possible to have the camera moving together with the city, unless centered on the Town Center. If you want to zoom in to the side, to build something while moving - forget about it.
- Dumping redundant resources can be done only one-by-one. You cannot type in a number, or CTRL or SHIFT click the plus icon.
- If you have an object in the world selected, which is too far to interact with, but your city is moving towards it - the selection disappears when the object gets in range.
[*] Moving a map can only be done by dragging with LMB. Dragging with RMB or using WSAD moves the camera around the city (behind the map).
The price tag of £20.99 is a joke. I bought it on 60% sale for £8.39, and I feel like I still overpaid.
Pretty decent city building game.
This game is a fun and mostly "chill" city builder. There's no invasions and no war or armies in it, so all that you're working against is the logistics of building, designing, and maintaining a flying city while recruiting new people to live in said city.
You also have to manage your resources and fuel consumption against the terrain and different building materials available in each region while also making sure your population is happy.
It's possible to cobble together a haphazard city that gets rebuilt repeatedly as it expands, but taking time to plan out efficient layouts and population/resource/fuel management pays off.
I enjoyed it a lot, and finishing one playthrough was enough for me, but there's a lot of room for self imposed challenges, experimental play throughs, and beating the game on the harder difficulty too.
Worth the money. A sort of steampunk world but with a floating city as your 'air ship'
There are many poor design choices, the graphics are terrible, and the game is overall too simple for my taste. still I enjoyed it for 2 days, and I will likely buy the next games if improvement is shown.
the design
cool idea, but it's kinda meh.
It's a super fun and chill game. Just enough to do to be interesting, but not enough that it ever gets overwhelming.
Played the Airborne Empire Demo a while ago, liked it, was notified that Airborne Kingdom was discounted, decided to buy without realizing it's not the same game as. Played it, wondered the whole time what's different than in the demo, but still liked it. 10/10, would accidentally buy again.
gg
Very cool twist on the Citybuilder genre. Build and expand your flying city, gather resources and do quests to unlock more buildings.
It has nice music, atmosphere and it looks great. But above all, very relaxing without getting boring. That's hits the spot for a good sim imo
Relaxing and easy city builder. Fun for a few hours with no bugs and nice graphics and music.
There is a campaign with a bit of story and lore, which I completed in roughly 6 hours, and it could have been completed both faster and slower, depending on the level of exploration.
Solid effort. Looking forward to see what they come up with in the sequel.
So many bugs. Annoying micromanagement of specific buildings. Lack of hotkeys. The list goes on.
FLying base is cool until you run out of coal and explode
A simple moving city-builder
TLDR:
- Good game
- Not complex
- Not challenging
- No threats to handle
- No interesting content in endgame
Early game - surviving with limited resources, expanding the city and ensuring there is enough lift to weight ratio for expanding.
Mid game - With enough quick resource gathering the entire challenge of weight, speed, and resource drain becomes moot and disappears, only expanding city and completing landmarks become the goal in the game.
End game - City becomes self sufficient, large and fast that the only content left to do is complete each landmark quest.
The game is ok; you can complete the main campaign in about 4 hours. There are some more things to discover after that, though, the game gets boring by that point because the options for building are kinda limited. It reminds me of Spiritfarer, but with less story.
