Play Your Way:

An AMAZING game! A real hidden gem. The setting is incredible and some of the most interesting world building I've seen in decades, already craving more. The gameplay is a whole new concept and I love it. Real chill, you're not gonna break a sweat, but it's beautiful and very enjoyable and works flawlessly without any bugs, glitches or performance drops that I've seen. It takes a bit of figuring out, I missed a key point from the tutorial or two but I got there (super responsive dev on discord). When you take it all into account and consider it was made by one person it is really remarkable.
This is easily one of the best city builders I have played in a long time. without any resources to micro it allows for a unique experience. where you can focus on BUILDING what you want regardless of efficiency. though there are difficulty settings if that is more your style. I love this game and look forward to further development.
Relaxing yet tense and intriguing, amazing views and simple gameplay
Didn't really enjoy the gameplay loop, extremely basic very little in the way of RTS gameplay.
I can understand why you'd love the setting, design, sound and art but actual gameplay mechanics it's pretty shallow.
Great game! I poured in far more hours than I was expecting. It's not overly complicated but is wonderfully detailed. I love the uniqueness of all the ships
this game is pretty boring and empty. do not buy unless it is for $1 or free
Although the water world is interesting, the game is actually boring. I understand that it's open world, make you're own adventure, but after the initial exploring, I found it directionless and uninspiring. I unlocked a bunch of new captains/leaders (soul tree) ... and I just didn't care. It's a shame because the water world setting is so cool. It needs something at the strategic layer linking the game loop to a larger world engagement/interest.
Stellar indie game, a little bit rough around the edges in some places but the game-play is good fun and everything in the world looks amazing. Though in my opinion the games greatest selling point is its great Dev! He listens to feedback and players experiences, tackles bug reports head-on and pumps out updates at an in-human rate, keep up the good work man! I would highly recommend this game to anyone who wants a laid back beautiful city builder with a little bit of strategy and some good lore thrown in
Really good. I'm shocked at how seemingly under the radar this has gone...
Really loving this game and way Tomas is evolving it. It's like a dark sci-fi Tiny Glade with a dash of Sim City. The build mechanic is very organic and I've lost hours just building an connecting things. I've not delved into the light strategy elements a lot yet but that's not the main point :-)
Can't recommend yet, as there isn't much gameplay. I got bored after a couple hours. It sure looks nice though
Cool game!
Has layers. First layer is sorting out how to build things.. Complicated and visually stunning.
Get that down and you can start modifying relationships between factions, choosing how you want to interact with others...
The game's DEV (Tomas Sala is super helpful / one taking care of the game. Huge plus!
Plays well on my SteamDeck.
Very interesting concept, highly recommended. I like the philosophy of the developer of goalesness game, but still engaging and brilliant.
Not much to say that hasn't been said already. Like many reviewers, I'm not really a city builder enjoyer, but the free-form nature of this game makes it stand out as something people outside of that niche might enjoy. There's a free demo for people to try out the game before buying, although I haven't personally played it, so I don't know what is and isn't included in it. My only critique is that the terrain can often be quite jagged, which can create some very odd-looking walkways/battlements, but that probably isn't super noticeable in a big city.
This is an exceptionally fun game. It only takes a couple of minutes to get used to the stripped-down RTS mechanics, and once you're passed that "where's the UI, how many resources do I need for that thing" mindset, simply clicking and "painting the landscape" is very enjoyable. In the intro the developer makes the statement to "just keep building"; I have found that this simple instruction is perfect. The more you click around, paint the landscape and build, the more the game opens up and provides new elements to use to paint and build with. It's very much like an old-school RTS where each new mission unlocks a new unit or building, but without the break between missions; everything feels very organic with each "upgrade" flowing seamlessly from the last without any break in the gameplay.
Very step learning curve . Great concept and easy once figured out.
Game Crashes an you will loose everything you dont manually save. So dont forget to safe every 10 minutes....
good game
Got on sale for $10 and have 60 hours of enjoyment so far. Got my money's worth. Its a fun, relaxing and unique game.
The dev is interactive and keeps adding and updating.
Only cons so far are difficulty in coordinating your army and some lack of things to do once youve 'conqured' the continent.
I'm enjoying it as a very chill and relaxed builder type game with great athmosphere. It's very satisfying to see the flow of resources and connections, and how your colonies develop over time. I will probably set it up differently for my next play to get a bit more into the "strategy" side of things.
Also runs great on Steam Deck, so perfect for some laid back couch gaming.
Active and responsive dev, an excellent mix of a creative tool and actual colony strategy, and great voice acting that sells you on the world and characters. What's not to love?
Great.
Solid, chill city builder, highly recommended!
Positively beautiful
Waht ever happened to saving, i started a new game got really far and the game crashed while i was not playing deleted my, and i started a new world and restarted onther, the restarted world was back and the pther new world was gone too
I love this game, its an incredibly fun casual game with decent progression, I do wish there was slightly more to do since it is pretty easy to "finish" but overall worth the price
Less a game and more an exercise in creativity with game like elements. Would totally conquer all Ursee again to expand yet further my mega city. 10/10
Innovative city/empire builder and RTS game. It's very chill and relaxed but with the potential for some epic battles if you choose that route. Beautiful environment and atmosphere with cool lore.
This game also has one of the best devs I've ever seen. I recommend joining the discord
Fun game, building is simple and intuitive. Not really weighed down with allot of information, more about creativity. Which is nice in its own way, most games like this are about numbers, and efficiency.
Can be a chill sandbox empire builder or you can turn it into a full out war, great game if you like building massive outposts in a sandbox environment. Developer is also really responsive and anything not covered in game is covered in discord. Looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for us
Im going to need to watch a YouTube tutorial, because the one that comes with the game is entirely too vague and abstract....plus the complete lack of feed back (did I just rebuild a wooden walkway or upgrade it to stone? Who knows)
Interesting concept if I can ever get past this ridiculously poor tutorial.
Update: After a few more hours of trial and error screwing with the harbors to figure out trade and buying new extractors...its a really good functional game! You will suffer through the beginning....but if you hang with it...its a really great experience. You can make it as easy going or as difficult as you like.
Honestly this is one of the most fun games I've ever played in terms of city building. there's not a huge amount of micro-managing and to see your city grow from nothing is beautiful, the different styles between the factions are distinct and it just FEELS great. Tomas is a great Dev and is also really open to talking to the community in the discord. 10/10 Give the Demo a try, if you like it, it's well worth the price, and would highly recommend joining the discord to see what's possibly coming in the future.
I love Falconeer and Bulwark and the world they both reside in. I am amazed a solo dev built this world and created all of this. They are completely different types of games, I recommend playing Falconeer first, as I started with Bulwark and it didn't click with me right away, so played through Falconeer and that made the Bulwark experience all the better. The dev is super interactive with the community and loves discussing the world with us. Falconeer is pretty straight forward action, Bulwark is more of a chill sandbox building experience. I hope to see more of this world!
I never thought meditative city-builder would be a genre that I went in for. This game has just the right amount of abstraction combined with compelling world-building and a gorgeous art style. I tried out the demo in the original NextFest release and enjoyed it and so glad I stayed engaged with following the development up to the Evolution update. So much has changed for the better and this is a delightful little game well worth a look.
Played the game since it rolled out. A great, cozy, visually beautiful, fun experience that is really easy to get hooked on. You dont have to overanalyze, micro-plan every little thing, you can just dive in and enjoy.
Though after a little while it get's a bit repatitve, and you start to wish there was more.
And the the evolution update came out. We got MORE.
Double the content. I was blown away. The open world feels SO MUCH MORE ALIVE. Feels like there is a ton to do, with the help of all the new little systems that got introduced that makes the game feel a lot more fluid.
Sala, you beautiful genius. This is slowly becoming a Masterpiece.
Incredibly unique take on city builders. The art style is fantastic, it's very easy to build beautiful cities. The sandbox nature of the game and the way resources work lets you stay small and succeed if you want to or scale across the whole map.
What an excellent little game. Just watching your settlement build up is a treat in itself, but the solo developer insists on adding incredible, game-altering features each update. I cannot express how much I adore this game, and cannot wait to sink more hours into it as it continues to receive updates. Fairly priced, great DLC and monetization model, and a developer who truly cares about creating a game for people to love. My one and only suggestion - let us get the giant crab!
The good: Some pieces here and there are good. Great theme, I really really wanted to like this game. Impressive for a solo dev.
The bad: Most unintuitive and finnicky game I've played in a very long time. Tutorial is awful (tells you what to do, but not how). Building is way too fidgety. Control scheme is frustrating, UX overall is frustrating. Nothing really makes sense.
It's good!
If you're looking for a city builder that actually feels unique for the sake of something new, this is one worth trying.
It's not what I would call challenging, but it does necessitate a good amount of planning to thrive in the specific ways you're interested in.
Playing the original Falconeer game also works well to enhance the magical feeling of discovering this fantasy world. It looks and sounds lovely.
A wonderful mix of sprawling city management, exploration, and stunning naval and aerial battles that clash across your screen. I do not recommend starting on conquest mode, but you should do it anyway. How did one person make this?
I've been waiting for a game like this for years. The start is simple and easy to understand but something still take some learning and Trial and Error to get right. The art style and direction is comfy and inviting, the different designs between the factions makes things interesting and I can't wait to see what else is to come!
The trade route management is non existent, and is DESPERATELY NEEDED.
Resource management isn't explained well either.
Nor are ranges.
Nor is finding new outposts and "demolishing" them in order to move them (???).
Feels like a beta still.
It's a decent little sandbox style game. There is no resource management or combat at a micro level, just building and exploring. It has a unique style and embraces it. While it is not for everyone, I would suggest to at least give it a try.
I don't think this game is for me, it is incredibly restricting and lacking in the tutorial area.
I played under 2 hours through the tutorial and then was stuck and couldn't progress. I can't build more resource nodes, I cant get more characters to send resources to other places to expand. If the dev is correct that it took 6 months to make that lacking tutorial I question how this game got made. So looking up the game online to find the missing info I found some of what I needed. I still don't know enough to properly play the game through. Starting over with new knowledge I could progress a bit further but the game itself is limiting me too much and its just annoying.
Here are the main issues:
The limited characters required to operate buildings makes little sense in many cases. Why do I need a specific character to make ships transport a single resource + workers with 3 types resources I need 3 characters. Fishing boats appear out of nowhere for just having a dock, they don't do anything but means someone knows how to use a ship. I can have a population of over 2000 yet I have 5 people who can run a ship to move a resource. Docks should not need a special character to operate this is a pointless limitation just preventing progress. I can understand needing a commander but guards don't really need one. Why can't I build my own docks to make combat ships to guard my trade routes? I need to wait for a character to join me with one and take away a slot of only 3 characters per paired dock, so to move all 3 resources I can't have a guard ship.
The area where its possible to build in is tiny patches all over the place, with the above limitation on transporting materials and the lack of ability to build outposts you have to be really selective of the largest of those tiny areas.
The camera should be free and unlocked from towers or the blimp. Navigating around your town by going tower to tower is tedious, it also has an annoying auto camera pan that ends up scrolling too far. The blimp camera is too zoomed in and you cant see enough around, it also annoying auto decided if you will fly high or low.
What the tutorial really needs:
I have no idea how to replenish followers that had died in combat. I had no idea how to interact with the question marks around the place until I found it online somewhere. I still don't know why I should upgrade from wood to stone roads or towers either I missed it or it wasn't stated. Tell the player they have an inventory. Correct the tutorial mistake of telling you to find more characters around the world without telling the player they have a population requirement to even appear on the map in the first place. Explain why an outpost of another faction seems to increase your starting faction population instead.
I love this game, it's as easy or hard as you want it to be. Creative or challenging. The logistics are just complex enough, not at all overbearing. I don't leave a lot of reviews but I really believe in this product. Developer is also very active on Discord. I'm buying the expansion now not because I think the game in any way needs them, I just want to support the developer.
It's a great lightweight empire builder, with brilliant art style and amazing atmosphere. Traveling around the map is probably my favourite part, reminds me very much of Dredge, which I also loved.
Amazing developer = Awesome game
I don't even like civilization building games but I fell in love with Bulwark almost instantly!
It works great on Steam Deck!
