Nope. Bland (no, pair-matching is not unique), unpolished, with too little hand-crafted content and an irritating random level generator. Level editor and workshop support are supposed to compensate, but a community needs to be built to use them, and that... didn't happen here.

10 out of 10 game. Worth the money. Has Workshop support, goes up there with those old mirror game things and Portal 2.

Clever puzzle game based on hexagons.

all you do in hexa is rotate hexagons so the shapes coming out of one side of a hex can reach the end located on the side of another hex. colors matter, so if a circle enters a hexagon on the yellow side, it will leave wherever the other yellow side is. there are also converters between shapes, as well as splitters and switches that unlock blocked sides.

at the time of writing there are 33 levels, more than double than at release. they're not particularly difficult, no timer or move limit, the game should take about 2 hours, but a level editor and random levels are available. the workshop is currently empty, but the generator should provide enough entertainment, bigger levels can get really complex and you can customize various things, which is a nice touch.

the presentation is minimalistic. the graphics do their job, though some colors are hard to distinguish on a few levels. as for the audio, there's only a clicking sound, no music, but an audio on/off toggle got patched in.

controls are fine, rotation works both ways with left and right click, should be a given in games like this. 'r' resets the current level and wasd can be used to pan around. while the latter is not necessary in the main game, you can generate huge levels where it's a must.

after the latest patch, mouse-only gameplay is almost achieved, there's a menu where you can reset the level or go back to the menu, but moving around is still only possible with the keyboard. zooming or marking hexes that are surely in the correct position would be nice to have, but these aren't dealbreakers.

there are resolution options and you can play in windowed mode by pressing alt+enter or toggling it in the menu, which produces a resizable window, but it's a bit buggy: going back to full screen doesn't resize elements, so if you make a small window where only 5 levels are visible on the level select screen, for instance, then go back to full screen, you'll still only see 5 levels with a scrollbar in the middle of the screen.

can't say hexa has to be in everybody's library, but if the premise sounds interesting, or you like hex-based games as much as I do, might as well grab it, it's not too expensive and even with an empty workshop the level generator makes up for the brevity and relatively low difficulty of the main game.

It's a neat little puzzle game with a fairly solid concept, but lacks challenging levels.

You can breeze through the 30 pre-built levels in about half an hour. I consider this more of a tutorial, while the random/workshop levels provide long-term entertainment.

The developers have addressed various issues shortly after my review (which is really amazing), so I'm revising some points:

The random levels suffer from a complete lack of control regarding the difficulty; you can end up with a trivial one that has 8 tiles or one that fills the entire screen. In fact they can even exceed the screen, which I initially considered as a bug, but, as I later found, you can actually (sloooowly) move the camera via WASD. This is never communicated to the player, and I only stumbled on it when looking through the launcher settings.

In general I considered few levels to be challenging. A lot of them were (almost) solved by accident, after rotating the hexes out of senseless positions (like facing outward), which is a bit disappointing.
By virtue of how the game works they are often only 1 or 2 positions that could even be considered to be the correct solution; and you get fairly quickly to the point where you notice these, at which point the majority of levels become trivial.

There are a few UI issues, like the level select screen not telling you which levels you have already completed (which just baffled me as I can't think of another game that fails on this front), and there being no buttons to reset the level or return to the menu.

The level editor is a bit unintuitive, but is usable. and suffers a lot from the camera being movable yet there being no way to center/zoom the camera nor there being any kind of level overview.
The controls are not properly implemented, as entering text (when naming the fields) moves the camera and in addition operates the editor controls. This results in unacceptable behaviors like the level editor quitting if you wanted to save a level with a name containing "s" two or more times (moving the controls down towards exit) with a "w" (up) to compensate.

There also doesn't seem to be any form of validation that a given level is solvable, which is just a recipe for disaster.
