The game has over 200 levels that experiment with the game's mechanics in a multitude of ways, requiring the player to understand and manipulate the rules of the game and figure out devious ways to make the objects in the game world interact.
The game was originally created for and won the Nordic Game Jam 2017. Baba Is You also won the Excellence in Design and Best Student Game awards in the Independent Games Festival 2018, and was nominated a finalist in 2 other categories, including the Seumas McNally Grand Prize. The game was made using Multimedia Fusion 2 by Clickteam.

if you like puzzles that make you want to rip your hair out, or ones you have to boot up your computer at 1AM for because you've just realized the solution after thinking about it ALL DAY, or ones where you open an "impossible" level days later and go "oh my god, it can't be that simple" (it is), then this is the game for you. endlessly infuriating, can't stop coming back.

very fun puzzle game
Sadly I suck and my progress is slow
7 hours playtime over a few/ several days and I love it. The puzzles are pretty fun most of the time but you should be prepared to put a lot of time and thought into them. Don't try to complete every puzzle immediately, you WILL get stuck, so if you are really stuck just move on and go to another area or puzzle.
Best puzzle game. For those who love seeking solutions, experiment and get amazed from unexpected results.
Took many hours, and was stuck on one level for 6 months and 13 in game hours with encroaching paranoia that the game was bugged or that the dev was trolling me, but I beat the game with no hints or guides. Turns out me is skill issue. 10/10.

Extremely creative and versatile gameplay. Cute, simple graphics and cool, motivating music.
This game is quite hard tho, especially if you're trying to clear all the levels. Some levels look like copies of previous levels but with crucial elements removed, making you wonder how you're supposed to complete this new version level that no longer has enough of whatever element that you relied on before.
This game is absolutely infuriating to the max. 10/10 with friends though.

The sound tract is great to sleep to. Very nice. Though, I'm not smart enough for most of the puzzles, lol.
Possibly the best puzzle game I've ever played. To sum it up for the unfamiliar:
Baba is You is a puzzle game based on the basic elements of coding logic. Rules for how elements behave on each level can be bent and broken. You'll often catch yourself staring at the screen with confusion, walk away, have an AHA! moment, sit back and feel like the smartest person on the planet. That is, until the next level makes you feel like an idiot, only to repeat this glorious experience again.
Do yourself a favour and try not to spoil the game by looking up hints. Rather walk away, think about it, sleep on it, and come back.

I beat the game, but I still pop in, from time to time. There are some levels that I simply can't wrap my head around, but I refuse to look the answers up.
Amazing Rule-Discovery (at the start), breaking the rules is a very creative idea.

Well-balanced for level of difficulty. Fun and challenging, but not to the point of frustration.
Very inovative puzzles that not only make you think outside the box, but also think with the game's mechanics
fantastic, got all my friends and brothers hooked. It does get hard fast though, but all levels are possible. Just keep trying and dont give up! Pro tip, if you do give up just google the level you're on and watch the solution videos on youtube
One of, if not the most brain-wrecking puzzle game I've ever played. The individual puzzles difficulty vary wildly and there's no clear difficulty curve after the first set of levels, but the game unlocks levels in a breadth-first way, preventing you from ever getting completely stuck.
Let some puzzles simmer in your mind for a day or two, come back or try other ones, and little by little the game opens up to you with ever wackier mechanics. ("EMPTY IS BABA" made me laugh out loud the first time, among others)
It's a very slow simmer, and not for ones with little patience and perseverance. But dang is it charming and quite rewarding.
It takes some time to play, my biggest reccomendation is NOT using tutorials, if you are stuck go away come back some time later and try again and if you are stuck for a long time use BABA is hint (a only hint list made by someone called keyofw) the game is more than big enough for the price but most fun without spoilers.

Creative, challenging and fun to play. All you want from a puzzle game.
Everytime I play this game my brain just hurt trying to understand what is going on. It makes me scream but the art direction is very cute so I say it is a good game.
Baba Is You's coder-ly sauce elevates the Sokoban so naturally that they could design a whole game around this simple idea without adding a single extraneous mechanic. Simple, clean, puzzle design that provides challenge while always making sense; a great example of what puzzle games should strive to achieve.
The game is an amazing piece of art. It has well-thought progress and a bunch of user levels after the main game. Absolutely recommended.
When I first played this, I really liked the gimmick and thought it was an amazing puzzle game, but couldn't quite see why people considered this one of the best puzzle games ever.

absolute brain melter puzzles, made me forget how to grammar
Do you want to stare at a screen, touching nothing, brow furrowed, for hour after hour? This is the game for you. It's like dark souls, except the boss is some stupid little collection of stupid words that are stupid. And mean. And lame. I don't need words anyway!

Nice little puzzle game with unique mechanics, recommend
This game is hands down one of the most polished and fun puzzle games ever made. There are tons of levels, the mechanics are extremely clever and well designed, graphics are super charming and the music is pretty nice too!
The depth of some solutions were absolutely mind blowing and saying that you need to think outside of the box is an understatement.
I will never stop recommending this game to any puzzle enthusiasts out there.

Baba is you is such an incredible puzzle game. The concept of the game is changing the rules of the puzzle to make it solvable and the puzzles are very well designed. I had a hard time finding even a single puzzle where I felt like the solution I came to wasn't the intended solution. The puzzles are challenging and some can take a long time to solve, I'd often think of the solution in the shower or while on a walk.
I thought this was going to be one of those silly puzzle games that you beat in an hour or so, and are more form over function, but I was so wrong. The mechanics are relatively simple, but the puzzles will require you to stretch them to their limits in ways that may seem unintuitive at first. Then when I thought I was done I came across the level object and thought "I wonder if they would really do that?"; tried it, and realized that this game was so much more. 10/10 this game is so trippy.
I have never finished the game once, but I keep comning back to it, even bought it again for Switch when I was on a family trip. This game's puzzles are easy to start with, but when they get hard, they get HARD fast. More often than not the solution is more about changing perspective than trying to force an answer, which I like, but that makes it very hard to play in longer sessions. Would recommend especially for that price.

This is one of the best puzzle games I have ever played. There are so many thoughtfully designed levels to keep you occupied. When you find the solution of a problem, the eureka moment is such a high, it doesn't take long to implement it. All in all really fun game! Totally worth it for people who love puzzle games. Highly recommend.

I've been slowly going through baba is you - now on the last few levels. I can honestly say one of my top puzzle games - some levels i'll sit on for days and that's part of the fun! don't look up the solution to a level - trust the process!
I really wanted to love this game. It got recommended to me as a "programmer" type game, and in some ways it is. But I really didn't enjoy it.
The game mechanics itself are very unique and the first few levels I enjoyed solving. But the difficulty ramps up tremendously and very early on,to the point where you really have no choice but to either look up hints, or just simply stop playing. Because of the (mostly) linear levels and progression, if you get stuck on a particular set of puzzles you can't go away and do something else ala The Witness.
The main issue I found was that even when looking up hints or even full blown solutions, I didn't have an "aha, how did I not think of that?!" moment. It was more "well... I guess so...". Often involving very specific moves that have absolutely no leeway (e.x. Pushing bricks against walls or any "Is Move" puzzle where things automatically move).
"Baba Is You" is marvelous, clever and excellently designed. There are so many things I adore about this game, I don't even know where to begin; from its constant-but-never-overwhelming introduction of new ideas, to its elegantly open-ended puzzle solutions, to its bonus levels that force you to rethink previous levels in entirely new ways, to its cuteness and charm in its characters. It's a truly special puzzle game in that, even when it gets too difficult and you feel like giving up, you always come back, because baba is you and you can't help but think about that *one* idea you have for a level, even when you're not playing.
Seriously, even if you feel like you're not smart enough for these puzzles, it doesn't matter; this game is wonderful and deserves a chance to break your mind. I highly recommend you give it a shot.
Baba is a whole vibe. The coziest puzzle game of all time just so happens to be one of the greatest puzzle games ever made. Just having this game running in another room of your home is clinically proven to cure depression.

ok but for real, this is pretty fun though i do wish it had some kind of hint system. i get stuck a lot but i dont want to get spoiled for the entire level of a game i'm trying to play just because i got a little bit stumped
Baba Is You is one of the toughest puzzle games available. Its puzzles and game design are very unique, consisting of building and editing statements and the planning and timing of moves that feel reminiscent to a game of chess.
The music and sound design are perfect for the game's aesthetic style. The game is very cozy, despite being challenging. The art style is adorable and adds to the comfy and simple visual experience.
I'd highly recommend Baba Is You for those up for a legitimately challenging puzzle game.

This game is well designed, but not for everyone. This is not in the same "puzzle" genre as portal 2 or Cocoon. These puzzles are f-ing difficult. That said, if you enjoy really tough puzzles this game is for you.
