The time feels like it passes quicker on this version than any other version of this I've played. The farm immediately has all the upgrades with no need to build them, the hot springs comes already unlocked, mine already open. There is hardly any forest to forage and explore. Barely any beach. It takes an hour to cross three screens. Level one axe/hammer felt useless RP wise. Also, and most importantly, it somehow lacked the nostalgia I was so badly hoping for. The aesthetic is just a little too different and the only thing that really feels the same is one option of player one's character and the cows. Not even worth $10 at 75% off, currently returning it.
a great game if you love farming sims. I never played the OG on gameboy but i did play it via emulator a few years back. I personally prefer this version, though there is some character elements which were changed that i would have personally kept e.g karens dope bangs. overall id say a solid 8/10, i will definitely play again in the future.
I love the game of what it is. I have played the GBA and DS versions religiously as a kid. There are quality of life features like not having to carry your chickens or push your livestock individually so they may enjoy the sunny day, walk through crops, and owning more trees. Multiple types of cows and livestock are a plus including the rabbits and pets you can purchase from Van. I don't recommend this game, but it does keep me occupied to kill time when on the plane.
What disappointed me the most is that I have to befriend or watch the culinary TV show in order to learn new recipes. Before you'd just mix up a few ingredients that made sense to learn a recipe. Time is quick as heck and the fatigue animations kill more time. I wish they added that napping on the ground replenished stamina instead of being stagnate. I wish we had the basement upgrade and set a Spring, Summer, or Fall Sun stone to grow crops during winter. When growing the grass seedlings, it will reset to regular land after it being harvested instead of just a shortened stage and re-grow again. In the DS version, a week or three days before the new season, but this does not. I have to buy multiple seeds before the season ends so I don't have to do a major back and forth to the store or miss it due to a festival/holiday or when the day after is a Tuesday/Sunday. I find this very schedule-intensive from the general stores to Van having special pets on specific days, season, and weather.
WHERE IS MY BASKET DANGIT.
Addictive game, specially the soundtrack is memorable
Nice peaceful game. So comfort and nostalgic.
Nostalgic game from ps 1,
When i working so hard in video game than in my life
Love the game play, instrinig so far, look forward to what else is revaled!
Steam could really use a "neutral" recommendation for their review system. I honestly find it difficult to decide one way or another if I recommend Friends of Mineral Town or not. It's more complicated than a simple Yes or No.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is an enhanced remake of the original Harvest Moon: Back to Nature (PSX) and Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (GBA). It plays pretty much the same, for the most part, although there are some minor changes, additions, and quality of life improvements over the originals.
So you'd think this would be the best way to experience one of the better Harvest Moon games nowadays? I thought so as well, but ended up somewhat disappointed.
It's not like the game itself is bad. As I've said, it's mostly the same as the originals. It's a fairly simple farming sim with cartoony aesthetics and positive vibes. The gameplay does show its age, especially when compared to something like Stardew Valley, but there are several QoL improvements over the original games that make FoMT quite pleasant to play.
So, what's the problem then? Well, this may sound weird, but the game simply doesn't "feel right". The overall aesthetics have been changed drastically. Even though the series has always been very anime-like, and used super deformed designs, this new version makes everything look like a very cheap mobile game. The graphics are very simple and the game really shouldn't be difficult to run even on an ancient machine. That alone would be fine if not for the changes of all character designs. Certain characters look decent, or do improve over the originals in some ways, but the majority of others have been changed so much they not only no longer resemble the original designs, but are not pleasant to look at in general. Some of the characters look even more cartoony than they did before, or completely lost their uniqueness (like Gray, Cliff, Won, to name just a few). I thought I would get used to this after a while, but no. In some cases I ended up disliking several characters because of their new designs, which made them even less masculine, boring and uninteresting.
And that's not all. While I have very fond memories of the originals' soundtracks and sound design in general, this new version once again resembles a cheap mobile game with its poor sound direction. The music does feature all the original themes, as well as some new ones, but most of them are not pleasant to listen to. It's like the melody is there, but it's muted by way too many instruments the music tries to imitate for whatever reason.
The sound effects are even worse, because not only they seem very poor in terms of quality, but also do not match the 'action' on the screen. The Axe hitting a tree, or a Hammer hitting a boulder should carry some weight or impact, but here they sound more like a very soft tap. And these are mere examples of all the repetitive and simple sound effects in the game. And I swear in some cases there is some kind of background noise that hasn't been removed from certain sound effects.
In general, the more I play SoS:FoMT the more I miss the originals. I realize that their design and the overall aesthetic was a major part of what made those games special. This new 3D re-imagining with a new artstyle and sound direction doesn't work for me, for the most part. It's still the same game at its core, just with a new look. If you're fine with this change, then you should enjoy the game more. If you're not, then you may end up disappointed, like I did.
And if you've never played the original Back to Nature and/or Friends of Mineral Town, then with no nostalgia factor I am not certain if it's worth getting into this game nowadays. There are better alternatives, with Stardew Valley being one of them. Friends of Mineral Town is pleasant and relaxing in general, but it's all fairly simple and nothing groundbreaking by today's standards.
Nostalgia for sure. Worth it if you played the original but does get repetitive quick. Grow crops and tell the spirits to water them for quick easy money. Don't worry they like working for free
wheres my true love ?
Man i can't wait for Magical Melody to get a remake, or a new non-doromon title.
A fun farm sim dated with tediousness. The game lost me when it introduced that to max your animal affection, you needed to continuously breed and raise to adulthood a lineage per animal type. Combined with that to meet the most extreme increments of"completion", you need to play 5 or 50 years in game, that's too much time commitment for a farm sim. I need to have an "ending" in sight. Otherwise i would play a MMO.
I grew up with the original Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, and honestly that kept me from stardew valley. I don’t know those people! And I missed mineral town far more than I missed the farming sim as a genre.
The redesign of character portraits is simply gorgeous. I’m skeptical of making pixel art into low-fi polygon animations usually, but post 3ds, I think this form of remake has managed to not look terrible.
The text everywhere has been retooled and modernized and even in translation it shows a strong comforting voice and some real charm. I think it shows that you can have compelling characters without introducing the rougher aspects of rural life. We’re not butchering the cows, therefore we’re not dealing with anything more depressing than a drifter needing a steady job before he opens up to the townsfolk.
One downside is that there’s really not too much time before you hit bedrock, it got my 100+ hours in, but sim games are built to a different standard. This started as a GBA game, and while there are many many QOL aspects added, it’s still a similar initial scope.
This game’s great. I like it a lot. Nostalgia’s a big factor, but if you wanted to farm sim and something about Stardew doesn’t really land for you, I’d say this is more than worth a shot.
bring back memories... new rules but more fun
Blast to the past! I played harvest moon more friends of mineral town years ago still entertaining to this day if you just want to do some mineless farming
This game is good for chilling
My FIRST Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game, I understand this franchise served as the "grandparent blueprint" for many farming sims, so I was eager to try it.
Would recommend this to those who enjoys farming sims.
The game is very good, the next update will be in Indonesian
Pros : Really nostalgic Harvest Moon from Playstation 1 Gameplay with added some new features, animals and person in this game
Cons : THIS GAME SUPPORT GAY AND THERE IS GAY MARRIAGE IN THIS GAME, I BE LIKE "EWWWWW DISGUSTING GAY"
But I will still recommend it anyway because of nostalgic
why my games always stuck on some kind of slow motion?
love it as nostalgia, but compare to original some little detail and mechanism is weird and why this remake version, the mechanics seem to be simplified but the map area and time are not balanced, the time to walk from the village field to the house can take more than 1 hour, while the original is only 30 minutes in game time and last brown cows produce chocolate milk and pink cows produce strawberry milk, hell no wtf with game producers are you american? why y put that on the game
Cute remake
its a carbon copy of harvest moon; fomt on the gba with extra graphic and features
Unfortunately to say that, although this game is more beautiful than the old version, but a lot of features in the old version no longer use in this remake version. This make the new one is a little boring, specially in winter, i can't have a greenhouse for crops. And the most stupid thing is the healthy-bar, this was great if we can turn off the animation of healthy-bar, which annoying me all time when i play this game. So, we need a small DLC or patch to update turn off notify function of healthy-bar, give player build a greenhouse and update a list of winter crops, greenhouse crops.
If need to compare, i will refer the harvest moon: The tale of two towns, and i will not recommend this game.
Thank you~
Just Love it <3
I got this because I played the original games when I was little.
It's super cute!
Super nostalgic!! I really love how they kept so much but improved a lot more. Thank you for reviving this game. I can finally heal my inner child.
remind me of the old game that i always play back in my teenage age
this is good
LIKE ❤️❤️❤️
Nostalgic, cute and fun
I like the chibi artstyle, it gives nostalgia.
That said, there is not much to do here.
There is hardly any gameplay. Same goes for the story.
It feels watered down and simplified to the point where it's just an empty shell.
No real tasks, ambitions or adventures to find in this farming sim.
Most things are already unlocked at the beginning.
Also definitely wait for a sale if you ever want to grab it anyway.
Mostly recommending it for the sake of nostalgia. Content of the game is exactly as I remember it, so anyone wanting something new might not be interested in this one. I especially like the visuals--I've never been a huge fan of pixel art, which is why I don't enjoy Stardew Valley much even though I know it's a solid game. I bought FoMT at 75% off, so maybe this counts to my enjoyment. At full price, I wouldn't bother buying 😂

Elli can fix me beyond recognition. Completely love her to death ever since I played the original FoMT and BTN
I hate LGBT content.
I hate it so much.
But this gameplay really great, i'm feel nostalgic
Not like the gameboy one. Controls are so bad and not let you customize it, I just want the backspace to be esc, but esc does not exist, cant use my side buttons on my mouse. The Dev team seems lazy that they cant even put adjustable controls!!! Where is the toss button, i can't throw away a piece of grass inside my freaking inv, i had to use the dumb pre built control to get inside inv and press c and select how many i want to discard, i remember the old game, you can just toss it, yes, we had some bad memories about throwing away cool stuff, but it sucks to no be able to do things that was part of the game. Not coherent which made the exp kinda a let down.
This game feels like a cash grab aimed at nostalgia. They stripped out key mechanics like rival marriages, making things easier but taking away the challenge of racing against the clock that made the original fun. The lack of proper storage for materials is another annoying flaw that just makes managing your farm a hassle. It seems like they took out features to make the game simpler, but it just feels shallow and lazy. I was expecting the original and got a disappointing delivery instead. I was looking forward to enjoying the "Harvest Moon" franchise on PC but I'm better off emulating it.
Very very addicting!
There's always something to do; mine and upgrade your tools - care for your pets - plant seeds, trees, and crops depending on the season - socializing - events - fishing - upgrading your house etc etc... and the most important of all, the nostalgia!!!! <3
best
childhood nostalgia! 10/10 would farm again!
Made to be played on console so on pc it's annoying to play. Many keys are not intuitive and it all feels a bit wrong.
Why the game doesn't fit in my screen huhuh
I wish I could hammer the mayor.
memory reboot
Well, to be perfectly honest in my humble opinion without being sentimental, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in distinct perspective and without condemning anyone's view and by trying to make it objectified and by considering each and everyone's valid opinion I honestly believe that I vividly don't have anything to say. Thank you.
I've play the original in 2003, 21 years later still enjoy the remake!
