A trans-media experience, KOBOLD is accompanied by a short film that can be viewed before entering the VR experience. The short film serves as an introduction into the world and characters and tells the backstory of the missing boy and his family. It is available to watch for free on the KOBOLD website. The player then puts on a VR headset and steps into the story, breaking into the abandoned villa, gathering clues, solving a mystery and entering a dark, mythical underworld inspired by European folklore and pagan mythology.
In order to make the transition from film to VR as immersive as possible, the entire villa (which is a real location in Brandenburg, Germany) and its surroundings were meticulously scanned with photogrammetry. Actors were also 3D scanned and brought to life in VR using motion capture and advanced facial capture technology.
AAA graphics from an indie studio, with character and level design, compelling gameplay and intuitive interactivity designed from the ground up for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Decent short VR experience, especially for the sale price I paid.
Everything ran smoothly, and this is definitely a really good creepy atmospheric experience. The only issue I ran into is that when I picked up a cassette tape, it got stuck to my hand for most of the game. I was eventually able to put it down by transferring it to my other hand and then dropping it, but that only worked after awhile, and while it was stuck to my hand, it was just more of a visual annoyance than anything.
But I enjoyed what little amount of playtime I had. Too bad it looks like there will never be another chapter.
Can't launch in either WMR or Quest - joysticks beams don't reach the start menu buttons.

Very short game which feels more like a demo. Shame, it was just getting under my skin when it abruptly ended. Got this on 65% sale so I can't complain. This could be horrific if it was a 2 hour game.
Still holds up, graphics still beat the shit out of newer titles and its got creeps and jumps both - only about an hour long, but worth every minute.
A very solid one hour VR horror experience. Helps if you know German, really opens up the lore and helps you sink your teeth into it. However, I would still recommend it for non-German speakers. Tense and spooky without relying on over the top jumpscares or so much tension you are ready to jump out of your pants at any second. We need more VR experiences like this.
