The gods are dead and the tree of life, Yggdrasill, summons her last hope to the Neverinth. History’s strongest women heed the call and begin the trial but only those who pass will earn the sacred title of Valkyrie.

Explore the everchanging halls of the Neverinth and uncover the history of the Valkyrie. Do glorious battle against the beasts and monsters of Norse legend and uncover the hidden pasts of each heroic woman. But their trials will not be easy as they face down those that haunt the sacred halls of Valhalla, and face down aftermath of Ragnarok.

          before i played this game i was lazy, suicidal, sad, and didnt do much aside sleeping. Nothing has changed but game is good.

          Pros:
          -Levels that change every time keep the game interesting.
          -Characters and the in-game world are well-designed.
          -Soundtrack is amazing (for me, anyway).
          -Combat is fun, if you like soulslike games.

          Cons
          -The game is unfinished. It will never be finished. Devs won't release source codes, so modders aren't likely finish it, either. Bringing the game out of early access was deceptive - done because the devs knew they weren't going to touch it again, but if you just buy the game without doing your reading first, you think you're getting a finished game when you're not.
          -Pretty short. When you get the hang of it, you can clear all levels/bosses in less than an hour.
          -No story. This was going to be added later, along with more playable characters, but development stopped, so the devs never got around to it.

          Such a shame that it got abandoned (my heart goes out to the producer, of course). It had a great concept and could have been something quite special. I still get a lot of enjoyment out of Neverinth, but the only occasion on which I could recommend buying it is if it's on sale, you're bored as hell, you've watched trailers/gameplay footage and think you'd like it, and there are NO other games that you want to play or buy right now- oh, and you're okay with the fact that it's unfinished. If any of those conditions are not met, I'd strongly suggest you save your money.

          Broken and unfinished. The hype was cool until I finally got the chance to play it, but it barely runs properly. The developers have already abandoned development for this game. Don't buy, if you ever do, I recommend getting a refund.

          Edit: this is a rug pull, do not buy this game. I am in the process of returning it after I found out the devs are washing their hands on an early access product, sold as a full game, but will never be finished. I really hoped for the game to get better and will no longer happen. I am disappointed.

          My review is for the version 0.4.10 and might change in future iterations of the game

          The developer is clear enough to establish in the first screen of the game that some errors might happen and even provides with ways to contact them. That has all my respect and I appreciate the clarification.

          Let's start for the most important part about a game:

          Is it fun?

          Yes, in the short term... But this is a roguelite...

          So here goes the full scene:

          This game is sold as a souls-like and a rogue-like but it fails in both areas

          1) This is NOT a souls-like. Let's establish what I understand as a souls-like first:
          I believe them to be action RPG games with methodical, deliberated and compromised combat. Soulsborn games are not difficult for the wish of difficulty, but as a consequence of our character's limitations (except for DS2, that's an aberration). That said, I'll describe this game's combat:

          Is a hack and slash: that's what this is. Attacks can be cancelled, not only by dodge rolls (which I rarely used) but by any attack. God damn it! Spamming the same attack will cancel into itself! It is crazy... And that is to me what makes the game fun. I could modify the attacks at will and do whatever I wanted, because there are no state controls that prevent attacks from cancelling the animations. So it is not a souls-like until my attacks are a compromise or there's some sort of mechanic that punishes if not prevents spamming.

          So I was having fun until I determined the hard attack to be the king... And...

          2) Let's talk about the roguelite aspect of this game:

          I killed the surprise at the end of the game in my first run. Yes, the game lasted 58 minutes for me, due to my unhealthy exploration habits, but otherwise, it could easily be a 20 minutes game, due to:

          1) I admit I was insanely lucky with my findings during my first run
          2) Hard attack is OP in 2 of the 3 characters
          3) The bosses are too easy: their patterns are way out of the character's scope. With such a movement abilities, the bosses should be faster. But I'll talk about the bosses later.
          4) The RPG systems can be abused with ease

          The sum of this factors, made them to me a lackluster game.
          Let's break this factors a little more, because it seems I hated the game and yet, I am recommending it?
          Errors and bugs apart, the concept of the game is good. The idea of a souls-like that I can play forever, is heaven, to me.
          So instead of being a total asshole, I am going to give my 2 cents to the cause:

          Let's start by the souls part, that I care the most:

          Either take the souls-like tag and embrace the hack and slash aspect or refine the combat and actually make it a souls-like
          The first one is lazy and easy; the second one needs to work hard. This are my suggestions if You take the second route:

          1) You need to create a system that buffers the inputs. This will allow for the animations to complete their cycle. Maybe some animations can be set, so those allow for specific interactions on set inputs
          2) Either get rid of the cancels or keep the trending as with the dodge-roll and penalize the cancels with attacks as well (that would be awful, by the way). Yet, the cancels were fun, so maybe a system that opens the option for cancels to be possible during a set period of time, would give the best of both worlds, giving depth to the combat and keeping the fun aspect of it for some old button smashing
          3) Those bosses man... here goes my feedback. The first boss, I don't remember his lizardly name... The thing is> I go between his legs and violate him by spamming hard attack. That's all there is to it. The puke does not goes between his legs, so, I don't have a reason to be anywhere else in the arena. Is the safest space to spam attacks like there was no tomorrow. The second boss has nothing special to remember. The combat was once again simple and easy.... And You know what, let me do this better: most of the attacks are badly telegraphed, if my character wasn't as fast, it would have being a frustrating experience. I quickly learned that one should only be near that guy when they end their attack pattern. But was easy. The same applies for most of the bosses (the fallen surprise at the end is a different topic, this deserves a totally different talk), giant polygon clusters with no soul, extensive health bars and silly patterns. Crank up those guys, give us some balanced Valkyries to fight and make them less spongy. It feels cheap IMO.

          regarding the surprise at the end (spoilers):

          Double cheap: tremendously fast, a lot of tracking, she knows not stamina, really spongy, distance, in movement and attack are out of proportions. All around a terrible fight. I had shield and my character was already LV 23 at the end of the first run (I'll expand on RPG systems later), that's why I survived her non telegraphed trusting attack. She ate all of my 9 bottles and after I gave the final blow to her, the screen went black and then, the game crashed. Lovely (more on crashes and errors later). At the end of the day is a battle I will remember, not because it had memorable moves or because it pushed me to my limit, instead. it takes me back to the arcade days, where final bosses where simple quarter munchers; they felt cheap and arbitrarily hard: difficulty for the joy of fucking around, like the levels in DS2. So, please, re-tune her and give her good animations; make her have sense and a surprise we are all talking about. You guys have not a big budget for publicity, so your systems need to be clean as fuck, so when I talk to a friend I can recommend this game to them.

          Let's see the RPG systems: in my first run I got a combination of jewelry that allowed me to get absurd amounts of resources, those allowing me to get too much runes and breaking the game immediately. I am not saying that You need to nerf or destroy such pieces, but there needs to be a rarity system that gives real value to those findings. The pieces have a colored frame, but I got blue and golden in every run and multiple times, so maybe, make the actually rare and legendary? Like, it is actually difficult to get? Or tie those items to certain battles that will randomly happen in certain levels? I think that would be a great solution: the player fights for the better weapon with a random well balanced sub-boss, it is a compromise and a decision, providing this way some depth to the game.

          Anyways. I liked the level up and unlocking system, I just think that it should go beyond 30 and the conditions to get those rewards should be a little tougher, so players don't unlock so much in a single run. It is also a roguelite, after all and meta-progression is king and something you should be looking forward as a player.

          Errors:
          Grey screen after the second boss (this was during my test of the katana girl). The screen went grey, I was only able to hear her like in the distance (maybe a camera-scene issue? since unity 3D detects the sound distance between elements). The thing is: I paused, went to the menu, saved and left, only to come back to the same problem. There needs to be a feature that resets the camera and those objects position and functions at load. That way, if this error happens, can be solved (while you find a more stable solution)

          Black screen: after the unity splash screen a black screen that won't go. So it hangs in there and... that's it :)

          Random crashes: exactly as described
