With recently added hud customisation this game got even better.
It's pretty cool, first rhythm game I've actually paid money for.
The music pass and other DLC is, in my opinion, too expensive at full price. $24 for a short battlepass that only grants cosmetic items is kinda pointless which is why I'm fine with ignoring it. Now the music expansions range in price a bit, but over $800 for the full DLC bundle is crazy.
Would not recommend buying anything, including base game, until it goes on discount. It's a good game, but too damn expensive.
童年补票系列,依然非常好玩,强度极高。谱面设计也很良心,保证你用手柄一定能玩。至于玩不玩得过就看你本事了。虽然手残仍大爱的好作品,希望可以长存。
$60 game with most of the content pay-walled behind several DLC I should've just pirated
Qualms over DRM aside, this is a top shelf rhythm game, and it is one I'd heartily recommend to anyone. It's everything you'd want, really. A shocking abundance of songs by default (most of which are absolute bangers), a wide spread of genres and difficulties, and plenty of modes to toy with. There's satisfying progression between cosmetic unlocks and new songs. Each song gets its own background video, and most are keysounded, which I adore to no end. It's hard to go wrong with it if you like vertical scrolling rhythm games or would like to try one for the first time.
The gameplay for this is phenomenal. I absolutely love the feel of the gameplay. It is handled so well with great visuals and sound design. It's addictive and keeps you hungering for more progress on your level, rank, and score of each track. If that wasn't enough they also have battle pass levels with unlocks that flash as you play. Unfortunately, even with the music packs I just feel the overall music selection in this game is... bad. To each their own of course but even with the crossover DLC’s I felt like they chose poorly on songs to implement. I know this is more of a personal gripe but it's just my honest take on it. Other rhythm games like muse dash seem to collaborate and provide some of the best tracks from each colab and I guess it's sort of spoiled me. If you like the songs then I'd recommend you pick this game up while it's on sale and only buy the select dlc's with songs you know you will like and want to play on repeat.
not very fun compared to other free rythm games like osu! and friday night funkin
Here is compact shopping guide of this game so y'all wont have to do math nor search around.
✦ Should you wait for the discount? - Absolutely yes. Put it in your wish list and be patient, there will be more big sale offs like the last one in winter 2024 (almost everything 70-80% off). If you plan to buy this game or its DLCs with regular price then just go ahead, don't even bother reading this guide.
There will be different types of Pack/DLC to watch out:
✦ UNLOCK SONG PACK: Right now there will be about 150+ (if I count it right) base songs as you buy just the base game. Although, 98 of them will be locked and you will need grind to unlock them. If you are extremely impatient (like me, sadly), buy this to skip the grind.
✦ CLEAR PASS: S__ PREMIUM TICKET: This is for season pass in the game. You will get stuff out of it as you play before the season ends. There are free stuff and premium stuff in the pass. You can't access the premium stuff unless you buy this DLC. However, after the purchase you still need to play to unlock them. Make sure to check how much time you have left until the season ends before you buy this.
✦ CLEAR PASS : S__ CLEAR POINT BOOSTER: There will be 30 steps/milestones in every season pass to grind for. This DLC will boost the points so you can clear the pass much faster. It's pretty much it. Just remember you still need the premium ticket DLC for the premium stuff.
✦ All the DLC that ends with "Original Soundtrack": Personally, I avoid these packs because all they give you are mp3 files that you can download to your computer.
✦ All the DLC that ends with "Gear Pack": They are skin DLCs, buy if you like the skin.
✦ Other packs that I did not mention above are extra/DLC songs.
Now, the game editions and bundles:
✦ BASE GAME: You get about 150+ (if I count it right) base songs. Almost half of them are locked waiting for you to grind.
✦ (Recommended) DELUXE EDITION: If you want to get full game as low as possible cost, this option is good to start with. It included the base game and some DLCs.
✦ DELUXE PLUS EDITION: Samething as above, plus you get overcharged for downloadable mp3 files. Don't buy it.
✦ COMPLETE EDITION: This will get you the full game at the moment you buy it. You WILL NOT get future DLCs for free. Plus you get overcharged for every single mp3 files. Don't buy it.
Well, there are HIDDEN bundles *shocking noise*
✦ LEGACY BUNDLE: Go to this game DLC page, find any version of TECHNIKA DLC. Open it to view and scroll down and you will find the bundle offer with additional discount. There will be LEGACY PLUS bundle but don't bother it, its mp3 overcharged pack.
✦ COLLABORATION BUNDLE: Same thing, go to DLC page, find and view any collab DLC (like Tekken, Cytus, Demo, Muse Dash, etc.) Scroll down and you will find the bundle offer with all the current collab DLCs, and additional discount ofcourse.
So, if you buy the DELUXE Edition and the two hidden bundles above, you are basically bought the completed game at the moment. Personally I think this is the most cost effective because you don't get overcharged for those mp3 files. If there is a skin or two that you like, just go ahead and buy them individually since you can't get them in a bundle without original song packs within. Next thing to do is wait for future contents to get on discount and slowly add them up to your library.
I hope this guide helps. I will put this as Recommend because I like the game, although, they are ripping off people with the price. Again, be patient and wait for the discount.
Have fun ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
Its great! Fun comes fast and lots of challenge if you choose to go for it :)
A classic concept, polished to perfection
DJMAX is not as innovative as Osu!, Chunithm or Groove Coaster with its gameplay style. Nor is it as accessible as Taiko and Muse Dash, or as charming as Deemo. It does not attempt to reinvent the wheel, instead employing the tried and true vertically scrolling setup used in games like Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. And while this approach is nothing new, I believe DJMAX does elevate the experience in multiple ways making it a real contender for the title of "Best Rhythm Game".
For one, the production value is through the roof. This allows the game to reach a level of polish both in terms of its core gameplay as well as the quality of its charts which I don't think has been achieved before. Every song has multiple charts for 4B, 5B, 6B and 8B layouts fitting loads of playstyles and skill levels. Every song is also presented with a music video (which can be turned off if you want to focus solely on the music, but it does add a lot to the game's presentation).
Secondly, the song selection is frankly nuts. There is so much music to discover and play through, and it is varid enough that it should please most people. They have done collaborations with lots of other Rhythm games, like the aforementioned Groove Coaster, Chunithm and Deemo, and other IPs such as League of Legends, MapleStory and Tekken. The only surprising omittance is Touhou Project, which have collaborated with various other rhythm games, but is nowhere to be found here.
To be transparent; much of it is locked behind paid DLC, meaning the game will cost you a lot more than you might at first think if you want access to everything. Still, the entry fee is affordable, and you can invest in the DLCs down the line if you want more songs. The Deluxe/Complete Editions tend to go on big sales, so wait for those if you are interested!
Lastly, the amount of content offered is commendable. In addition to the main game-mode there are missions which test your skill with various modifiers like hidden and shuffled notes, and extra game modes such as the horizontally scrolling Technika mode and the DJ-like Remix mode which has you switching to side-lanes to hit additional notes.
My only real gripes with DJMAX are twofold.
The game started using a Battle pass a while back, and it does not seem to be going anywhere. Personally I am not a fan of these as they tend to be grindy, expensive and preys on people's Fear-of-missing-out to make money. That being said, I don't think it's a huge deal here. I've seen worse passes, but it still somewhat lessens the experience for me personally.
The bigger issue is that it uses an Always-Online DRM, even for the single player modes. This means that you cannot play the game without an internet connection which may cause big problems for some players with unstable connections. It also means that the entire game may one day become unplayable if the developers stop supporting it and the servers go down. This is a big issue, and I really hope that we will eventually get an offline patch, but until then please keep this in mind when making your decision on whether or not to purchase the game.
In conclusion, DJMAX is a premier rhythm game! The game's polish elevates it above other games in the genre in terms of sheer quality, and its vast and varid song selection should entice most prospective buyers. While the core concept is nothing new, Neowiz have refined it to such a level that it makes returning to other rhythm games difficult. I easily recommend this game to everyone, with the caveat that the game runs an Always-Online DRM and may one day cease to function.
Kernel level anticheat on a rhythm game???? If OSU doesnt need it neither do you, NEOWIZ. Fastest refund of my life
Basically nicer formatted Osu, feels like rhythm game premium, sure a lot of the maps are paid, i feel like the leveling system is a bit on the easier side until the maximum maps BUT experience and ranked makes up for it
osu!mania but its 50 dollars with microtransactions and a battlepass.
A lot of great tracks are locked behind an abundant amount of DLC, but you really only need the base game so you can play "We're All Gonna Die" by Paul Bazooka.
If you like mania then you have to play this game, this game is probably one of the best if not the best mania game that feels accurate and very premium the only problem is if you want to play other songs you need to pay alot but you can still play them like once in a while for free without paying
Catchy songs. High quality game. Get this on sale because there are tons of DLCs.
Its a really good rhythm game to play and the artstyle is good too. :3 personal favorite is tok tok tok, beautiful day, final hour, and even far east princess.
Very solid rhythm game. As much as the idea of always having to be online to play a rhythm game bothers me, the game itself is amazing. The music videos are awesome, the charts are fun to play, the different gamemodes are nice, and the song choices are unique.
the anger is apart of the experience 10/10 yeahiwouldplayagain its reallyfunyea
I absolutely love this game. I bought DLCs despite being very critical of always online DRM. And this always online requirement is exactly the reason why I can't really recommend it.
If Neowiz could promise to make the game playable after the servers go down via an offline patch, this would be the easiest recommendation in my steam library.
I'd buy every single DLC right now if they did that.
Yeah battle pass in a paid game sucks, and normally it leads to me not purchasing a game, but this is an exception for me. Game too good.
If you like rhythm games and see this on sale (and are OK with giving money to a developer/publisher who's implementing battle passes in a full priced game and sells hundreds of dollars worth in DLCs for a game that you likely won't be able to play in a few years time), you should buy it.
Similar to OSU mania but better. cool/weird dances in the back of every level. A lot of funky/experimental music, pop, J-pop, K-pop. You can get up to 100 Performance Points a day which can be used in the store for customization.
Like any other game I've ever played, if you have no life, then I fully recommend this game.
Really great and fun rhythm game, well polished. The game has a decently fun mechanic and a very clean UI i might say. But the price itself is absurdly bonkers. Would not recommend buying during off sale. Still a pretty good game nonetheless but just don't get it at full price, same with the DLCs. 6/10.
While i can easily give the gameplay a solid 8-9 / 10, I cannot sensibly recommend this game.
1. The game is way too expensive to be played properly. While it is not new that music games sell new songs as expansions, the combine prices for this game is just way too high. You can definitely get the base game and you might be able to enjoy that for a while. But not having most of the locked songs behind expansions will lock you out from playing online since you can only play the song you owned. So tough luck if they other people would like the play the songs you do not owned. And there will be a lot of songs you do not own if you do not have tons of money lying around.
2. Even when you have the money to buy expansion for the game, the confusing listing on the DLCs will likely confuse you to death. I personally do not understand why selling soundtrack is a thing on Steam. But I guess some people like to listen to music here than on Spotify or Youtube. What do I know.
3. Let's say you have the money and you do not mind spending time going through all the DLCs listing and figuring out which one to buy or not. This game need constant online connection. So if you are like me and has been a fan of the series since PSP era, forget about playing this game on a plane or during travelling in general. Your internet connection will likely not good enough and you will be kick out of the game constantly.
4. Almost forgot to mention that this game does not work on Steamdeck. Yes you can get it to run on the deck, but the lack is so severe it is unplayable which kinda defeat the original appeal this series was known for.
Anyway, if you does not care about these points and just like to play a good music game, this game will not disappoint you on that. The gameplay is solid. The chart is good. The visual is fantastic.
super fun game. a bit hard if you're new to rhythm but don't let it push you away. amazing game that hooks you on very quickly. 10/10 recommend to any rhythm enjoyer.
I want to love this game, I really do. I really enjoy rhythm games and this one is pretty similar to other rhythm games with it's own spin on it. Overall the gameplay itself is good and the selection of songs are good. Here is why I can't recommend this game: it is a 50 dollar game that then has so much DLC it is like it is trying to be train simulator. I cannot in good faith recommend this when it is doing everything it can to bleed your wallet dry.
Just like..... Play Osu!...?
It's free, there's community workshop, there are no paywalls, no dlcs, no battle passes, it dosen't take 69gbs of your disk space (Elden Ring takes 66gbs bruh). I don't see a single redeeming quality of this game - It costs shit loads of money, songs are handpicked and hidden behind dlcs by developers.
Why would you play this?
It's actually impressive how boring the charts are to play for how much I see people talk about how great this glorified light show is. If all you wanna see is flashing lights on the screen while music plays instead of playing even just remotely interesting charts then I guess it's top tier.
One of then most boring traditional rhythm games I've ever played.
pretty good game worth buying on sale.
The only issue I have with this game is if you're already good at rhythm games, this is too easy there isn't really anything that challenging.
wish there is an offline mode since you can't actually play when you want to during "maintenance."
Bought this game way back when it first lunched and still playing it till this day.
Probably the best of my go to rythm game. I love the visual. The songs and all.
The downside of this game is that the game file is very big and some songs are not that good and fun to play.
Highly recommend if you love rythm game or would love to try it.
The game itself is fun, but the price for getting just some DLC's is ridiculous, there are just better (cheaper) picks on the market.
Really good game. Played the original games as a kid and still really enjoy the series. Love diein nd elclear🤤🤤🤤
This game is useless if you want to use a controller outside of an xbox gamepad The game refuses to recognize any other generic controllers in windows. Setup Steam for generic inputs and they work fine in other programs, but DJ Max acts like it doesnt exist.
Crappy lazy programming, its like its 1989 over here with zero real support for controllers
If you like rhythm games at all, you already have this one.
It's not perfect, but it's easily the highest-quality and most content-filled rhythm game of its kind on steam.
I love learning how to play my desktop keyboard like an instrument 11/10..but let me carry over song packs between games (online only wouldn't matter then), and make custom song charts >:(
Unless you absolutely love rhythm games, and or have disposable income to spend whenever you want a new song pack, I can't really recommend. It is an amazing game regardless, but way too pricey(esp w/ dlc)if you're not reaaalllly into it.
Okay, time to go put another obscene amount of hours in.
Fantastic, high quality game. But always online means when the servers go down (someday for good), everything goes with it. Limited customization, a level up system that locks you out of songs until you progress, and constant, pricey DLC for new songs really prevents me from recommending the game. Too bad, since it's great.
best rhythm/music games since O2Jam
+a lot of great musics/songs
+great animation
+variety of difficulties with several button modes
If you're a fan of rhythm games like osu!mania, DJMAX Respect V is a must-try. It offers a massive library of diverse tracks, ranging from K-pop and EDM to rock and classical remixes. The visuals are stunning, with dynamic music videos playing alongside gameplay, creating a truly immersive experience. The game also features polished mechanics, a variety of difficulty levels, and online multiplayer modes for competitive play. Whether you're a casual player or a hardcore rhythm gamer, DJMAX Respect V strikes the perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment.
But.... forcing player go fully online is one downside i found here so far. Pretty enjoy the game
What more is there to say about the game?
The GOAT. Fun to play with friends, to challenge your skill or simply pass your time.
If you buy the DLCs on sale, it's not too bad.
For those that criticize the game for paywall... well most of the songs are made through artists or collabs which cost money. I think by giving these artists their share of money, it's money not wasted and you also get to listen to great new songs you never knew existed at times. (I'm talking about you "Karma"! Love it!)
Will definitely recommend to all those who love Rhythm games or want to try it out ^^
My no.1 game of all time. GOAT of the GOAT.
Best music game in the world.
Don't think just buy.
(Don't let my playtime fool you, I mainly play on PS4 that's why.)
This gets a positive review from me but I think that's only because I have the majority of the DLC. The included music is largely various shades of meh but the DLC fleshes it out and makes it worth coming back to for me - grab the game and the DLC on sale if you can.
Also, if you're reading this and can't decide which platform to buy it on - PC is the objective best answer. Console versions lost the ability to adjust audio/video sync for stupid reasons and they're beyond unplayable now.
My fave rhythm game soundtrack and I've played A LOT ok...
Song packs I think are essential: emotional sense, black square, portable 3, and the trilogy pack.
Btw be careful when buying collab packs because while they're sick and get you more customisation too, most of the collab songs don't have sound effects, (which I think is one of the best parts about the game.)
this game is amazing, would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys rhythm games. love the aesthetic and has a lot of replayability
Game is fun, large range of difficulty (1-30), and pretty solid songs.
forced internet connection for a Rhythm game is bonkers,
Also Paying money to get a Free to play experience is scummy, and there a literal battle pass that has exclusive songs, that you cant play if you're not paying extra in a payed game. (the songs are free for everyone in 3 seasons but why is that even a thing)
The gameplay is good for a rhythm game, but you cant enjoy it without paying extra for good songs.
The paywall is killing the enjoyment for me, since any other rhythm game had mod support that allowed to enjoy a unlimited assortment of songs for no extra cost
I am an old player who has played DJMAX from the PSP version. I was looking forward to the new game on Steam, but finally I disappointed. This is no longer my favorite DJMAX. It has completely deteriorated. There are so many pornographic contents added, but the most important things are not done well, The full experience is terrible.
Instead, I should look at EZ2ON, They are really dedicated to making games and have been improving the game experience. Although the price is higher, it is more worth playing than this SH*T DJMAX.
The PSP games forever bore a DJ Max shaped hole in my heart.
The animations and game play are just so joyous. Only real downside is the massive file and copious amounts of DLC (which is all good just pricey). Way more polished then Osu Mania!
My favorite of the more traditional rhythm game series.
Solid rhythm action game with a wide range of difficulty options and regularly getting new content added.
A well balanced, beautiful rhythm game, with both easy and challenging difficulties.
Honestly, I just play this to chill out and have a blast to the huge range of tracks on offer. This is absolutely one of the best rhythm games around in terms of pure scope, support and difficulty options. Put on some headphones and just let the beats flow!
