It's fun but some of the controls are a little wonky like on the Mexican food option rolling the burrito is hard. Definitely a little work out.
The developer claims cross platform multiplayer, but its ONLY with random queue. Room code multiplayer is not cross platform.
Seems like fun but holy shit the cups do not fucking work. I spent legit 30 seconds trying to pick up a filled cup (made sure if was full because you have to hit the drink button twice to fully fill it) and its just broken. When you grab a filled cup 9/10 times it just sticks there so you have to let your grip go and try again, and if you accidentally don;t take it when it actually grabs it, good luck, you gotta grab it 10 more times. Only played half an hour so far but I don't know how much more I can take. The rest of it seems fine and is fun but shit, this is something I find gamebreaking.
Bought it to play with a friend, she appeared to have more issues with it than I did, but we simply didn't have fun with the game at the end of the day. Believe need to go after a more co-op experience rather than vs.
Fun fast paced cooking game, multiplayer works smooth and is competitive. Only downside is that there are only 4 different themed lots of food to serve up online. Optimistic for updates.
At this point, it's unplayable. the waiter wont take the order to the table. dont get this shit right now. if someone knows a fix, fell free to comment and let me know, since i seem to be the only person this is happening to.
This game is so much fun AND well done! I had not a single bug while playing yet.
The campagne is very good, you'll learn the differences between the four possible kitchens (Burgers, Pizza/Pasta, Sushi and Mexican Food). Even after nearly 10 hours and finishing the campagne its still fun to visit the game time by time.
The multiplayer works fine, sadly there a not a lot of active players right now. You really have to be lucky to find a player to play with. BUT: Even if you don't have a realtime game, you can still start "asynchronous game" which will let you play against a pre-recorded game of an opponent.
So, if you like cooking in VR and getting in some "stress" while serving food to customers, this will definitly be your game.
I hope the devs will add additional food-styles in the future (like german food (sausages/beer) or smth else)
So much fun! I absolutely love this game! I was expecting some bugs since there is so many elements that can go wrong but there was none that I could see so I was very happy. Also I sometimes gt dizzy with VR games and this one did not cause me to feel dizzy at all.
One of the better fast paced food prep games out right now.
I have tried several others and they are lacking in features or have too many bugs, not optimized. I would say I enjoy the variety of food types you can make and the amount jank is low enough not to get in the way of having fun.
I really like these type of restaurant games, and I liked this one, somewhat, but there were too many tracking issues. It was mild in the first restaurant, but still a bit frustrating. Then when I moved on to the Italian restaurant there were bugs and issues with tracking as well, for instance I kept losing the cheese grater, it would get stuck inside the counter and I would have to start over, or when reaching for ingredients, it's never the one I want and I have to keep trying until it's the right one. Then tonight I moved on to the Sushi restaurant and there were so many bugs I could barely finish a level. I gave up and shut it off. It could be a good game after it's fixed and updated, I wouldn't have paid money for it the way it is now. Once improved, yes it would be worth it, I did like it, but too frustrating fighting with the tracking issues.
Mixed feelings about this game. Proceed with caution. Don't buy this if you don't have at least a 6 ft' square of clear space to play the game.
I like the game, but my space though decent to play most of my games aren't enough to play this one, I had to be very careful not to jab the wall or a monitor.
Also, I felt dizzy after a few minutes of playing it. It seems like that the slight lags are causing it. I'm pretty much comfortable playing Half Life: Alyx and TWD: Saint and Sinners so I don't think it's me.
I hope that there will be an option to adjust the spacing needed as well.
it's good once you know what you're doing. for me the ingredients collided a lot, which made me respond slower to the orders as I was being messed about. sometimes it's not very responsive, and sometimes the item you want doesn't cooperate. e.g. I picked up one of the pasta containers and started to remove it, but it went back in. sometimes it presses / picks up the wrong thing, even if you go to do it accurately. get it on sale
Played using an Oculus Quest 2 via Virtual Desktop.
I've played through most of the american restaurant now and some of the Italian one and managed to string together a few thoughts for a review.
Pro's:
- It's very well made, Most things are responsive and you can get your self into a cooking grove. Pizza is espically fun to make.
- It's graphically pleasing to the eye and with the colour pallet I didn't get much glare through the lenses
- The Devs are currently active. They released the Italian and Japanese Kitchen's since release
Con's:
- The tracking can be a bit iffy. I can't tell you how many times I've reached into the bin to get a burger bun bottom and ended with a top. Also trying to remove a piece of food that's attached itself to an order is especially frustrating not to mention making fries. Trying to get the fries to fall in to the fry compartment without rubber-banding back into the fry was like an exercise in futility.
- The Difficulty can spike in later levels. To the people who get perfect scores, Can i borrow a pair of your 6 extra pairs of hands you're using. However, I don't believe there is a failure state for missing orders. If it's completely fudged. Throw the plate at the server and move to the next order.
- The Signposting in the Italian levels are hard to make out for Pizza. I've missed ingredients because I couldn't make out what i needed which forced me to add them and re bake the pizza, breaking my flow and I can't quiet tell that the Pasta is done when it's done.
Neutral:
- Multiplayer I haven't played it yet
- According to the other reviews. People have encountered bugs. I haven't found many bugs in my play through but yours might differ.
If you want to try something different than your common VR shooters give this a try. I played the Italian restaurant ( fulfilling pizza orders ect .. ) in casual mode and it was pretty fun. Took me a couple of attempts to get the orders right but I prevailed. lol
You will have a new found respect for your local pizza man & women after playing this a little while. Great for teaching kids to have a strong work ethic while having fun. :) There are a few restaurant options to choose from so it offers plenty of replay value.
You will need to make sure you have a little bit more than arms length of space so that you don't accidentally knock something over or hit your walls grabbing the menu items as the orders come in. You can lower and raise the counter space but you can't make it more compact. Re-centering options helps a bit but be mindful of having room to move.
Works fine with my Lenovo Explore WMR & motion controllers.
Great game. Little bit wonky when picking up a couple items, but definitely worth the experience. Can't wait for more levels!
So to start off with, I understand that this game won’t appeal to everyone, but I figure if your someone who isn’t into this kind of thing you probably won’t be reading this. Probably.
Anyway, when I first got my Quest I picked up Job Simulator, largely because of how universally loved it seemed to be, but after about 45 minutes I submitted my first ever refund request. The only part I enjoyed was the kitchen, but I just found it clunky and lacking but it really made me want a good cooking game.
Fast forward a year and I pick up Clash of Chefs on a whim and on my first session ended up dropping an hour and a half without realising it. The game starts off pretty easy, but in no time starts to ramp up the difficulty. Before long I was throwing things around, spraying ketchup everywhere and swearing and laughing in equal measure!
Trust me, this isn’t the game that I expected to love, but holy crap have I fallen in love. I don’t know how to explain it, but there is a certain zen that I find in the middle of the chaos, a calming rhythm that I find as I frantically try to push out order after order. It’s a really great use of VR and a really fills a nice space in my library.
What a thoroughly entertaining and satisfying little gem! I haven’t tried multiplayer yet but I can’t wait to give it a go.
Honestly, at half price I really recommend trying it out. You never know, you might find your next dumb game crush too
So a buddy and I bought the game, graphics are good for it's own thing, Multiplayer would be fun, If it worked. So Multiplayer either Desyncs or something, barely works, sometimes orders don't come in for 1 of us. Italian Restuarant doesn't work in Multiplayer and Online Search, you can't find anyone. Is there a fix? If not, it's just going to be refunded since we got it for the Multiplayer. :P
UPDATE: They've fixed Multiplayer, but would be nice for a Co Op Online Mode.
One major bug breaks my fun
Whenever you've completed a task in the game, and put the burger on the tray, the waiter-character far too frequently doesn't recognize items put on that tray until you lift them up and put them back down on the tray up to several times before it recognizes it. This completely ruins gameplay for me, with constant bad scores and having to redo the scenario all over again.
I really wanted this game to work, which is why I played up to 106 minutes before quitting, to see if it was bearable. But it wasn't. It felt extremely tedious to keep restarting the level whenever it bugged out, to attempt to get a perfect score, which is what makes the game fun and rewarding for me.
Once out of early access, I might consider buying it again, but as of right now, I just can't recommend it. That's why I'm requesting a refund.
However, with that being said, if this isn't a major concern to you, then by all means buy the game because in all other areas it's a great game! It certainly puts your skills to the test. I certainly can't wait to try it out when it's out of Early Access.
To the developer:
**Updated 12/27/21**
Devs pulled through and made a pretty fun game! Flipping my thumbs down to a thumbs up! Way to go devs!
**Updated 12/4/19**
Just want to point out that the devs haven't released an update for this game since my review nearly a year ago. You can see there are plenty of paid reviews, but nothing new to see here. What a shame.
---------------------------------------------
I really, really want to love this game. I'm a huge fan of Cooking Fever and was siked to play something similar with a friend in VR. Unfortunately, the videos do not set realistic expectations and performance issues plague this game.
Multiplayer is the core reason I purchased this game, but with a single game mode and fairly simplistic gameplay, there's not much here to keep you coming back more than one or two rounds. We also experienced really terrible frame rate drops the longer we were in the multiplayer experience. This gradual loss in performance gets to a point where the game is sickening. Support in their Discord channel was non-existent for this issue (for a month now). Don't expect to successfully throw (or block, for that matter) objects as shown in the video. Aside from hitting your A.I. server in the face with objects (which is brilliant), you've got a 1 in 100 chance to throw something and hit your buddy.
Single player features 30 missions (IIRC) that slowly increase in difficulty. Unfortunately, with performance issues and some clunky control mechanics, this just becomes frustrating to play after a while. Getting items off of a plate or layering them differently is maddening. Liquid physics for the drinks just seem broken and pouring fries into the fryer is just...unrealistic. There are also very obvious bugs like condiments not applying correctly when the plate is placed on the left side of the table.
Making all of this worse is the slow rate of updates coming from the small development team. Announced in the general chat in the Discord, the devs mentioned they're upgrading to a newer version of Unity, working on two new single player game modes, and rebuilding their menu design. Sadly, the core game mechanics need some desperate attention before I would even consider touching anything else.
All that said, no refund for me...I'm along for the ride and will hope the devs deliver. Just don't expect much if you decide to drop $20 on this unfinished game.
its honestly not a bad game. reminds me of diner duo but i actually like this better. i prefer to cook for humans than robots. At its current state i dont believe its worth $20. It does have several bugs like picking up the plates can be a pain and adding drinks is not all their and cups disappear. I think at its full state and all the kinks worked out its maybe worth 20. I will recommend because it's still a good game.
