great escape game! Love the puzzles and the bits of story. Hope there's a sequel! Only things that bothered me were it's too dark and sometimes the sound when entering a new room is very loud compared to the rest of the level. Luckily, pressing 2 lightens things and wearing earbuds means I can just take them off my ear. I also didn't like going all the way back to the main menu at the end of every level, but these are minor complaints. I really liked that the levels were made by different people. Nice job devs!!
un nice escape the room , ca manque legerement de fluidité dans les mouvements mais c'est efficace, facile a comprendre pas de taponage inutile
If you don't have the exact video card that the Youtube guys have, you will not solve some of these puzzles. Chapter 7 bottles with bright colors and white outlines. The colors on my bottles are dull with no outlines. I've played this same chapter 5 times, it's always different with each new startup. Same results even with the brightness set high.
The best $9 I've spent in a long time for many hours of enjoyment. However, eff that phone/keyboard puzzle in chapter 10. The tones sound nothing alike and after scouring discussions and video guides, I've come to the conclusion that the notes are not the same in everyone's games, so you can't rely on that to help get you through it. My husband is a musician and even he had trouble distinguishing the notes. It ends here, unfinished.
I got totally hooked within the first few minutes of playing it. It has 10 different chapters, each with 3 different difficulty levels, which means you can play up to 30 different times if you're looking for a challenge, a higher score and/or all the achievements!
Some aspects of the game do get repetitive, but this didn't bother me, since most of the puzzles are logical and fun. You will have to do a lot of back and forth, but the walking speed is pretty decent and so are the controls.
The game attempts at an obscure, superficial story, but basically there isn't one. That said, I wanted a puzzle game so the lack of story didn't matter at all. If you're looking for a straightforward first person escape room puzzle game, this is perfect imo.
Don't be discouraged by the 'mixed' reviews, like 90% of the negative ones are whining about color-blindness lol Although, they do have a point when it comes to the color puzzle in Chapter 7, which is extremely difficult for the wrong reason. Also, the puzzles in Chapters 3 and 7 are easily the most obscure ones and they are from the same designer, so it's no luck...
Considering the game length -I have already played a total of 14 hours and still haven't touched Chapter 10-, the price is more than fair. Highly recommended.
The puzzles were easy enough to solve but hard enough to require some thought. Perfect blend for me. The game was very dark but then I figured out how to increase the brightness. For the money, this was more than just good, it was a lot of fun.
Mixed review. You can tell a lot of effort went into Escape Legacy. There's plenty of fun to be had and the replayability is implemented quite well. However, some of the frustrations ultimately ruin the experience.
It's too easy to get stuck, and it's usually unclear whether you're stuck because you're misunderstanding the puzzle, or because you haven't found all the clues yet. The clue locations are randomized each playthrough, so sometimes you might spend 20 minutes scouring every corner unable to find a missing clue, then restart and find it in the first minute.
It also feels kind of bad to play - the character acceleration is awfully slow, the camera jerks around a lot (head bob, animated door-opening sequences), and even with the brightness adjustment option there's far too much darkness for a game about finding hidden objects. I feel like too much work went into making the game feel realistic for VR, at detriment to the gameplay.
That said, I suspect my above complaints don't apply to the VR version. I only played the non-VR version, but having direct control over the camera without the molasses-like movement acceleration sounds like it would make it a lot easier to find hidden objects.
If I went to an escape room with these puzzles I'd be real disappointed. Most are just kinda lazy variations on finding the combination to a lock. The game also includes about a page worth of text, but it's all terribly translated and unintelligible. Most of this wasn't a problem until the combination to a lock was the number of bottles based on the sizes: short, tall, casual (wtf is casual sized bottles? There were also like 15 different sizes of bottles, so I couldn't even rule out tall and short.) 3/10.
I'll put it as a recommend, if you like IRL escape rooms, but i'd put it as a negative if you like puzzle games.
Pros:
- Nice graphics and textures. Enjoyed seeing the vintage posters
- Decent size rooms
- Mimics IRL escape rooms with the padlocks/keypads and even the timer clock above doors.
- Nice that it changes and randomizes for each playthrough.
Cons:
- Graphics are waaaayy to dark. Even with adjusted brightness. This has been an issue for years, and as of Oct 2021, not fixed.
- Puzzles are juvenile at best, doesn't take much thought.
- Some puzzles dont register the correct combination via glitches so you have to reload. As with others said, chapter 7s colored bottle puzzle is almost impossible as they don't color the bottles correctly. (I.e. If the solution required 3 red bottles, you might see 1 red bottle and 2 that look black, regardless of how many times you reset, they will never color correctly), so you kind of have to brute force the code. As of Oct 2021, this hasn't been fixed.
- Clunky controls. Too much camera wobble to simulate walking or crouching. Moving your mouse when crouched, trying to pick something up forces the camera to be frustrating at points. Looking down for anything, you are greeted by unneeded cleavage shot, that usually gets in the way of what you're trying to look at. You are also kind of slow moving.
- You have an inventory system of like 20 spots but will never use more than 4 at a time
[*] Pay no attention to the diary pages with the "story". There is none. It feels like a forced addition that doesn't really explain anything.
You're better off at a real escape room, but it still had it's moments, even if they were slim.
I got to level 7 and could not get through the colored bottles puzzle. I restarted the level 3 times, changed some fx stuff, whatever- even went online for help but found others with this same problem. Frustrating to say the least, disappointed not to be able to continue. Frankly, it was getting tiresome as the game is the same throughout every level- Keys, padlocks, and color boxes. Better games out there.
For the $3.50 or so I paid the game was well worth it....10 levels of gameplay, escaping each level. As others have stated sometimes there are issues with the brightness or color rendition that can effect gameplay but it's not all that hard to work through it.
Reading the reviews for this game a can agree with the pros and cons. To me: I find the levels too repetitive, sometimes too dark, some bugs.... i.e. chapter 3 the note with 3 words is vanished.... Well, not a bad game for the bucks, but I have played better escape room games. UPDATE: Chapter 7.... bottle colors.... unplayable!! There no way to watch the right colors. DEVs don't listen, see discussions about chap7. This game is.... well ...meh. DON'T BUY! Be warned by many.
This is a little challenging at times. Not really a bad play, but if you have any problem with colors, it is quite difficult. There is one room which has bottles with colored liquid in them and it's nearly impossible to figure out the colors and which bottles to use. Other people have complained about it too, and the developer says just to adjust your brightness and viewing angles. I can't get past that room now. I think it's Room 7. Anyway, it's not bad if you can see the colors.
Pros: Nice modeling and texturing of the environment, and plenty of achievements.
Cons: Levels too repetitive, some keys are very small and sometimes in shadows, level 3 had way too many keys too find, some puzzles based on colors and different lighting conditions change gem or goo color, level 5 has one jar of translucent colored liquid in a very dark area (and there is no black color choice for that puzzle), level 7 has ten jars of the colored liquid in a room and many of the colors are difficult to see, and HEY, most men have some degree of color blindness! The liquids should be opaque, not translucent, and lighting should be more consistent near colored object clues. Yellow and orange are close in color and so are orange and red. Maybe use white, not yellow, and dark red or black, not red.
I prefer puzzle games that don't use colors-based puzzles for the reasons above and I because I appreciate creativity. The morse code, phone tones, and missing items puzzles of levels after level 5 were appreciated.
Could not complete the game beyond Chapter 7 as the colors of the jars (needed to solve a lock puzzle) are not accurate (most of very muddy and unrecognizable, some are black). Adjusting the brightness level makes no difference. In a walkthrough the colors were very clear and bright. The colors of the surrounding paintings are correct (blue skies, green vegetation etc.) Definitely a bug (another player has noted this problem).
I am a big fan of Escape the Room type games and this is one of the best I've played. The puzzles are challenging but fair and they are conceptual in nature (clues to match patterns, count objects, look at relationships between items, etc.). You play each level through on 'Easy' first which gives you unlimited time to explore. If you so choose, you can replay the level on 'Normal' and 'Hard' with decreasing time limits and less clues. The game definitely made me think and I became totally absorbed in beating each level and improving my scores.
There is a primary set of tasks (gather clues, open locked areas, and escape) and a secondary set of objectives (find gems and diary pages). Despite my best efforts, I managed to never get 100% of the secondary objectives on any level. Since the location of items and the clues themselves change each time you play, it is never dull to replay a level and look for items missed on previous times through. I will be circling back through all levels to try and improve my scores.
I am in process on Chapter 9 at this point and hope to see more games from this developer. If you enjoy Escape Games with interesting and diverse puzzles, you should definitely give this title a whirl. You are likely to need a pencil and paper to take notes as you go and save time during the 'hard' level.
My only complaint is that, even with turning the brightness up, there are dark areas that are sometimes hard to see. But, that is not a deal breaker and did not impede my progress that much.
For those of you who like real-life escape rooms, this game is about as close as they come to mimicking the actual experience. From the game logic to the puzzles--right down to the combo locks and color coding--I felt right at home maneuvering my way through. There are 10 levels, which you play on Easy first and then work your way up. Thus, the game has replay value, and for under $10 you can't beat it with a stick.
A few warnings:
1. There is no save option until you get to the end of a level, so be ready to commit to 20-30 minutes before you're able to save and continue onward.
2. The brightness/gamma settings are kind of terrible. Apparently it was worse before as there was no way to adjust the levels, but even after the patch it's really difficult to see sometimes. You'll want to mess around with your monitor for a while to find the right balance for yourself.
3. This game relies a LOT on working memory, so if you're like me and you have no working memory to speak of, you'll want to keep a pen and notepad handy for puzzling things out. (Normally I'd be annoyed by this but the problems were so much fun, I didn't care.)
4. The outfit on the main character is ridiculous. She's in a tiny tank top with no bra and her butt is literally hanging out of her pants. LOL I get it--they want to reel in the teenage boys--but I couldn't stop wondering why a capable explorer on some kind of mission would have left her house like that. Whenever I looked down it was just BOOBS as far as the eye could see; the woman made Lara Croft look like a paragon of practicality in the costume department.
ANYWAY. Despite the wardrobe nonsense, I recommend this game and I hope these people will do more...And, hey--maybe they'll give the girl a break next time and put her in a nice, supportive sports bra and some pants with an actual belt!
This was a really fun "escape room" game.
There are 10 chapters that you play. Each chapter you need to find clues and other items to proceed through the room(s) until you find the last room with the Ancient Scroll. This unlocks the next chapter, etc. The puzzles are mostly logical (easy to hard in no particular order) and progresses you through the levels at a nice pace.
At the end of each chapter, you receive a score for the amount of time it took you, number of items you found and level of difficulty you played. It then shows your ranking amongst all the players who have played.
I admit, I played Easy this time through, though I plan to go back and play the other levels to try to complete all the achievements.
An interesting aspect to note: There are no saves mid-chapter (though on Easy, the levels can be played usually between 30 and 45 minutes each). You can pause the game if you have to stop for a while. Otherwise, if you exit out and return to play the same chapter, most of the items and clues will have spawned to a different place.
Highly recommend.
Quite an enjoyable game. Took me around 12 hours to beat all 10 rooms on all difficulties. There is a bit of randomization there for replayability.
Looks quite nice a well.
It is basically an Escape Room game.
Puzzles range from easy to kind of obtuse. Sometimes inside the same room.
It is lacking in variety and hints at least for my liking. A bit more context would be nice.
Some minor nitpicks.
- There are a few translation issues. There is one that makes a puzzle not impossible but just obtuse.
- Some puzzles are colour dependent and just red, green, blue and yellow. This is not that great for visually impaired players.
- Speaking of visually impaired. Often the objects/keys blend together with other objects. Bronze key on wooden background or similar.
- Lastly there is a puzzle which uses music notes. Nice idea but not fun if you have to get a spectrum analyzer on your phone. Some people just can't distinguish between a D and an E.
- Three of the achievements are currently broken. (The purple gem ones) PS: This was fixed by the Devs within about a week of writing this review.
Overall I give this game a recommendation if Escape Room Games are your cup of tea. It plays well and it is a nice time.
All the nitpicks I mentioned do not break the game. Should the developers fix them in this game or in the next one I will give it a glowing recommendation. Some of them are just quality of life stuff and would increase production quality immensely for comparatively low costs. Especially the things for visually impaired players and the translation issues.
So far very impressed. First mission/challenge was fun. Find clues, use them to proceed, to escape/win/find prize. There are secondary objects to score you points and a leaderboard you can see how well you did comparatively. Very fun, looking forward to playing more.
My only complaint sofar is the movement is a bit wonky. As in pushing forwards, takes some ramp up time, until she is moving at a decent pace. Crouching and looking sometimes makes her get up and move to the side. That being said, typically with these types of movements I get motion sick, but I am not in this game. Not a big deal.
